Fake Japanese Restaurant! Food I lived in NYC for years and enjoyed the city's diversity. Among all the cuisines, I found I love Japanese the most! So when I checked out this restaurant's menu online, I was thrilled! They are claiming to some famous dishes same as the most popular celebrity Japanese restaurant in the states -- nobu! Tried their tuna sashimi salad with so claimed famous nobu Matsuhisa dressing, not even close! The sushi quality is average. Just copying couple Nobu restaurant's nice pictures and dish names does NOT make you a Japanese restaurant! Just a fake J Japanese restaurant try to fool the rich people in Edina! Service It's a fake Japanese restaurant. The sushi chef does NOT speak Japanese, does NOT even speak English. The service was ok since I am the only two guests in the empty restaurant. I enjoyed the Japanese culture when you dine in a real Japanese restaurant, for example, I loved the gesture of showing generosity when the staff in ORIGAMI over pours the sake and makes it overflow. I really doubt my waitress understands any English other than the name of the dishes! Atmosphere Not the place for a nice sushi dinning! This place is pretty tiny, the sushi bar takes up almost half of their spaces. Price This place is overpriced for fake Japanese food. The average price is high! This is NOT the place for "high price, high quality Japanese food", neither the place for "low price and all you can eat sushi"! It's pretty awkward for some crappy Japanese food with high price tag!

Best sushi and hibachi grill in the Twin Cities! The food was phenomenal. I would certainly recommend no 9 roll and the nakamori roll and hibachi steak and chicken were great too! It was so good our 2 and 3 year olds loved it! We also really liked the tempura banana and tempura green tea ice cream. Service was fantastic! Ambience was great! Parking was easy and close unlike many other good sushi hibachi restaurants in the area.

Great food and service. It may not be "authentic" Japanese, but this is Minnesota. 90% of any ethnic food here is nowhere near authentic. That being said, presentation was awesome and the rolls.... Delicious! Definitely will be back.

It's a nice place with great interior design. Hibachi dishes are good but the sushi rolls are not very impressive. However, I do appreciate the polite and friendly service. One thing I really do not like about the restaurant is, there were at least 3 small flying insects and 1 fly hovering over our food. That was very concerning and annoying when we were trying to eat. I don't think that is a good indication for solid sanitary, please look into the source of these bugs.

Decided to finally try the new neighborhood spot after hearing positive reviews. Against everything I would have expected (in a strip mall next to Brueggers!?) it was absolutely delicious! We ordered for delivery (very awesome online system - no need to pay fees a la bitesquad etc) and had a great dinner. High quality fish and a great selection. Will definitely order again and look forward to stopping in.

My wife and i visited a few weeks ago for dinner, curious to see stripmall sushi in Edina. As I write this, know that our plan is to go back tonight! I was shocked by the quality and presentation of the sushi. Decor is modern and simple and service is strong. We've been to most sushi joints in town and while Nakamori is not at Downtown Origami's level, they don't need to be and aren't trying to be. The fish we had was extremely fresh and the presentation was a sight to see. Prices are higher but not Origami or Seven level and with sushi, you get what you pay for. If you want affordable, try the chains or the grocery store. Very strong sushi joint in Edina. Hopefully their product and service remain high-if so, I expect them to be around for awhile. Improvements: Happy hour runs until 5pm. I suggest they expand to 6pm so us working suckers can partake!

Happy hour on Saturday from open to 5pm with fantastic food prices ($1 onion soup!). Makes a great start to the weekend. Plenty of cooked food options for me and my hubby says the sushi is one of the best in the cities.

Owner has no clue about the ingredients. I ordered Ankimo (monkfish liver) and it came out of a tube, I protest. Foie gras of the sea does not look like a orange pushup popsicle from my childhood. And I was berated for saying it was terrible. Squished on top of a soggy cucumber entire staff walked away knowing that I was correct but the boss will close this place......they're gone by September! Just walk away. They stink and so does the fish

This is a GREAT Restaurant! We've eaten here weekly and the food is consistently fresh, the presentation is amazing and the service is great. We have taken family and friends here and they too are impressed. The pricing is also great especially for Sushi.

We go here once a week for lunch and everyone I've brought from my company is in love with the food and the service. Don't miss the Pink Lady roll and the tempura. Now that they have Happy Hour specials, you will see us there even more often!

I've been anticipating the opening of this place for months! I went there on day 3 or so of their opening...so was prepared for the usual bumps. I brought my two kids 6 and 1.5. The place was empty except for the three of us for a Saturday lunch. The staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating! Patient and kind with my kids and fun too! As for the food...my 6 yo said it was the best ever (ok, not the first time I've heard this). Got kids hibachi for both one steak one chicken. They both stuffed themselves! I had some sushi, soup and thought it was top notch...but honestly I was wrangling kids at the same time so was unable to be too discerning. Nice value as well. I shall return!!! Hopefully with wife and sans kids.

I LOVE Japanese food, but not sushi. Sometimes these days it's hard to find a Japanese restaurant where all of the food, not just the sushi, is worth writing about. It was my birthday and I wanted Japanese. I googled "best Japanese food in Minnesota" and this place came up. i enjoyed the salmon and steak hibachi. The salmon was sushi quality and was AMAZING. Will order that by itself next time. The service was very attentive and appreciative. My 13 year old wants to be a chef and was mesmerized by the sushi chefs. One of them was so patient and made the night even that more special. Will definitely return!

Usually I brag about the food which I will, but I have to start with the staff. Incredibly friendly. First time here, but they made us feel like regulars. I had the winter roll which had the perfect balance of spice and crunch. And the place didn't smell like so many places do that serve sushi. With our entree we got soup, salad and hibachi. Normally we get it with rice. Do yourself a favor and get it with noodles. Great food all around. I had scallops and my wife had chicken. Unassuming place in a strip mall. Don't let me this stop you from going to this gem.

Lovely atmosphere and customer service! Sushi was on point. I had the pink lady, spicy tuna, and fancy ninja rolls which were all delicious and unique. For dessert I had a hard time deciding between the red bean and green tea ice cream. I ended up getting green tea but the server was very sweet and put a sample of the red bean on the side so that I could try it! I would defiantly go back and recommend!

Beautiful cut stone walls. The friendliest and most attentive service I've experienced in ages. Furniture and decor sure to attract a hip yuppie crowd. Flat screen TVs for the ESPN and CNN sets. I sure wish the food matched the rest of the experience. Like many other sushi joints in the area, this place will probably satisfy 90% of the likely patrons. But if you actually care about Japanese food, you will be disappointed. The salad dressing tasted suspiciously like the dressing you get in a Big Mac, with some grated ginger and radish mixed in. The miso soup was not bad, but also not authentic. I strongly suspect they simply added miso to the clear onion soup they serve with the bistro entrees. My husband's sushi roll, wrapped in a bright pink soy or rice paper, was a tasty tempura lobster/crab creation, but the crunch and spice overwhelmed what real sushi should be about: the rice. I couldn't taste whether or not it was real sushi rice. My salmon teriyaki entree was not bad. The first bite was very tender, but the salmon got drier towards the center. Generous helping of two salmon slabs over a stir fry of onion and asparagus. The rice was a little dry. We stopped by because it was close to the movie theater and we had a coupon. Hubby will probably get lunch here because it's close to his work, but I won't be going back. For the same money, I can get more authentic and better tasting Japanese food closer to my house. Come on, guys! A little more effort in the right places will go a long way. You don't need 30+ different kinds of sushi rolls to impress. Start with eight rolls that you do really well, and work to perfect the basics. You can probably lift better dressing and miso soup recipes from Epicurious. From the reviews so far, though, I imagine you'll do pretty well regardless of what you do.

I'm not as an experienced sushi person as Mr NYC, but the tempura and rolls are excellent far better than any place in the Edina area. The service. ....thumbs up, Julia was our server and she went above and beyond our expectations to find the right sake. She brought out samples, few if any offer such excellent customer service. Love the trendy decor. As for flies, I suppose we could resort back to carcinogenic repellents. Outdoor seating has its downside, I would totally cut this place slack on the fly complaint. Flies are nasty but they're everywhere.

While we were traveling, we found this place as we were looking for Japanese restaurant in the area. We were very excited to find one that seemed to have decent reviews. The food itself was okay and the sashimi we had in fact was not bad. When it comes to service however, I'd say it was disappointing. When we ordered noodle, there was some misunderstanding and the way the server handled the situation was not professional, as we felt she was making excuses, instead of trying to figure out what went wrong and how to resolve the issue. We basically felt it was all our fault and therefore deserve the blame. After paying almost $100, I honestly felt bitter. Definitely not the best feeling for sure. I don't think we would ever go there again.

Was excited to receive the restaurant opening postcard in the mail and decided to make a Friday night date-night out of it and check out the newly opened space. Upon entering we were asked to wait for a table when there were clearly 4-5 available. Then, once seated, we were ignored for 20 minutes. Several wait staff looked our way, but not one asked if we had been helped, and we didn't so much as get a glass of water. After the 5th or 6th glance from a waitress without someone coming to our table we decided to leave. Wish we could have tried the food, but will probably wait a few months to see what others have to say online before making that decision.

We really enjoyed Nakamori. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive, and made us feel quite welcome. We had the gyoza, some sushi, a spicy tuna roll and a specialty roll. We loved the presentation of all the dishes! The chefs paid attention to detail and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. I thought the quality of fish was great, and I'm enough of a sushi snob to feel comfortable saying that. Everything tasted very fresh. Lots of other reviews seemed to think this wasn't 100% authentic Japanese, and I'd have to say that's probably because we're not in Japan, we're in Edina, Minnesota. Looking forward to coming back for Happy Hour sometime to try out a bunch of stuff. A great addition to our local neighborhood!

My dad was at the European wax center which is close by and my mom and I were bored and hungry so we decided to get takeout at nakamori and I have to say it was amazing! We got a California roll and it was so much fresher and tastier than our usual sushi place in Mankato. The staff was so friendly and easy going so I felt relaxed while I waited for my food. Such a great place I definitely recommend coming here if you like fresh seafood and sushi!

It was my first time here this weekend and I'd have to say. From all the reviews, everyone is pretty much on point with the experience here. The atmosphere was wonderful and great. It's smaller than most Japanese restaurant but that's what made the experience phenomenal. The service there was great, the waitress made sure everything went well and definitely recommended us some of her favorite dishes. Explained fully on the quantity of food we would be getting, as in an example, if it was shareable or just perfect for one. Definitely helped us make our decisions better. We chose to start off with Miso soup & Gyoza (*pork*). The miso is like any another miso soup if you like miso as much as I do, you will not be disappointed. The gyozas were well made, crispy and perfect texture with the sauce they provided for dipping. For our entree, we went with the Spicy Girl roll and Seafood Udon. The spicy girl roll, had the best spice to it if you're into spicy. The texture of the rice was perfect for me, it was really soft and held the sushi together very well. You will not be disappointed! Again, it was delicious! For the seafood udon, it was definitely a dish that was worth sharing for sure. I'd have to say it would have to be at least 4 people to finish it. Two wasn't enough, but maybe our stomachs were too full from everything else. The price was very decent and definitely not expensive especially dining in for two people. I will definitely come back here again since my experience was phenomenal and wpuld definitely recommend this place to anyone whose looking for another wonderful Japanese restaurant in Minnesota.

I needed to feed my yearning for sushi one night, so I hopped on Yelp to search for a decent restaurant near by. I stumbled across Nakamori Japanese Bistro only about 5 minutes away. It had stellar reviews and the food pictures reeled me in. I was sold and headed on over to grab some takeout. The restaurant was small, but modern and welcoming. Everyone was so cheerful and nice. I was even greeted about 3 times before my brief walk to the register. With the help of the waitress, I opted for the hamachi toro (fatty yellowtail) nigri, saki (salmon) nigiri, and a house special maki (spicy crab meat topped with super white tuna and dusted off with roe). The hamachi toro wasn't as buttery and on par as you would expect toro would be, but it was still good. The saki nigiri and the house special maki was also decent, but wasn't as fresh as I like my sashimi style fish. Nakamori's sushi definitely hit the spot for my sushi craving, but it's nothing to rave about. If you are looking for decent sushi in the area, you'll definitely find it here. Just don't expect anything spectacular.

I was staying at a hotel nearby and this was a close choice. I was dining alone and I knew that there would be a bar to sit at. This place is tucked away in a strip mall and I was able to walk right in. The staff was super friendly and quick. I sat down and had a drink within a few minutes. I ordered a glass of the house wine, $5 and it was totally fine for the price. Since I was alone I ordered the spicy tuna roll, a tempura sweet potato roll & a house salad. The salad dressing was creamy and honestly there was just too much of it. There was a lettuce that was swimming in dressing. The sushi was decent, I really liked the sweet potato roll! The spicy tuna was tuna salad (not slice of tuna) and had some crunchy pieces in it. It was not overly spicy, which was disappointing. I'm not from the area, but I would rate this a 3.5. It's fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

While staying at a hotel in Edina we went to Nakamori for Dinner. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered squid salad, uni, hamachi, toro, ikura with quail eggs, and sweet shrimp. The squid salad was tasty and there was no fishy odor. The uni sushi tasted fresh. For one order of uni sushi you get two small pieces of uni on rice for $12; we had two orders. The Hamachi and toro sashimi were below average; especially the two thin slices of toro ($13) did not have much flavor. Ikura with quail eggs were very good. Sweet shrimp sushi came with fried shrimp heads. Shrimp sushi was good but the fried heads were not edible; the thick shells were too hard to eat. Head sushi chef was very attentive but the regular service was a little slow. It was okay to try once but there was nothing special for us to return.

Out of all the Japanese Restaurants I've been to, Nakamori hands down has the best Kani Salad. Their Beef Kushiyaki are amazing. I'll try out the Kobe Beef one day and see if it's as good as the one I had in Japan.

Was in the area and friends wanted sushi. Where to go in Edina for sushi. A quick yelp nation check and the only one near by was Raku, and a couple other places. Hated Raku. Let's try the one randomly in a strip mall.. My heart tells brain as brain says GTHO. Went in and ordered the loveboat because who doesn't like sushi on a friggin wooden boat? Ordered the chicken katsu as well. All in all pretty solid. Nothing mind blowing but the device was stellar and I was still in a little bit of shock that this was just a place in a strip mall. Try the boat. You won't regret it. It's a lot of food for $60. I found my western burb sushi spot unless I go strip mall hunting again ha!

Decent Japanese food in Minneapolis. Service is 5 stars. Really nice people Sake selection is 1 star. Not so good Wine selection 1 star Menu for food is like a Japanese diner. They offer sushi and sashimi and teppanyaki and a million other things We came for sushi and sashimi. The quality is not bad but every piece is way too cold and hard to enjoy

Finally found a good sushi place in Minnesota!! To be fair ... only tried a couple but until Nakamori, we were filled with disappointment. I've been here twice this week (shhhh ... don't judge). Wife had the salmon hibachi and she said it was great. I went simple with a spicy tuna and a philly roll but they were really good!! The spicy tuna roll was actually a little different than any I've had ... almost like a little crispy rice mixed in with the tuna. Great flavor!! My new favorite sushi place not names Kiku (coincidently my top 2 are named Kiku but totally unrelated ... one is Naperville, IL and the other in Los Angeles).

This is the kind of place that makes me wish I had two stomachs. The fresh salmon nigiri was like butter. Yum! I sat at the bar and watched the chefs make and plate exquisite creations, one after the other. Go with friends so you can try several different things. Courteous and friendly staff; at one point they noticed I was cold and offered to bring me hot water. I would go back.

My daughter found this restaurant. We love trying new restaurants and enjoy the foods. The inside of the restaurant is very calming. Their staff has excellent customer service. Their food is great! They always keep good quality of their food, unlike other restaurants, after grand opening, the quality of their food starts to fall. But not with this restaurant. Therefore I continue to go back. Great food and great service!

Fresh Sushi, Great presentation.!! We sat at the Sushi counter and had a really good time talking to the chef. Every staff member is cordial and friendly. After having their awesome Sushi, I went back a couple of times to try out their Hibachi Grill(Salmon) and Bento Box(Chicken Teriyaki). Lesson learnt... stick with Sushi at this place. And so -1 star. Great place to go if you hate venturing out to the city.

Amazing Tuna roll is as the name says and the presentation is beautiful. Tempted by the Lobster Roll and Pink Lady. Everything is very fresh and clean. Will definitely be back. Also, enjoyed the Sho Chiku Bai Sake. Warm, pineapple and juniper spice. Incredible.

Good food, great service, and good for kids. We ate dinner here with our 10 and 12 year old kids and they were very friendly and accommodating for us. Our son is vegetarian and the tempura tofu was just perfect for him. They also gave us extra miso soup when our son gulped his too fast and ours became cold when we talked to long with another couple that we knew. Overall a great experience, it was only short 1 star for us because the sashimi was too thick and overall the food was good and above average but we've had better local sushi. We'll definitely come back. Thanks to our waitress Jeanine for making us feel at home!

Me and my wife had stopped in for date night for dinner. The staff was energetic out going and professional. Overall the service was fantastic. The sushi that had arrived to the table was presented wonderfully and executed to a high caliber. Me and my wife will be returning soon because this place is not a place of disappointment. Thank you for a wonderful meal and a out going atmosphere. One small thing that would be nice is a little bigger variety of saki on the menu.

Have been here several times now, and I've got to say this has quickly become my favorite sushi spot! Nice portions, fresh fish and an awesome happy hour. What's not to like?! After trying quite a few rolls, the winter roll is probably my favorite. And I can never pass up a bowl of onion soup! Yum!

It was very good, reasonably priced, good selection and great service. Great selection of rolls and sushi. It may not be the greatest in the world but it's quality at a good price and super convenient. It's a bargain and I give it thumbs up!

I really like this place! First time eater. Came here with my boyfriend. We were greeted by the sushi chef and server as we walked in and was seated right away. It was a really nice welcoming. We order sashimi/nigiri lunch. And a few things from lunch. Everything was delicious. We started off with a miso and onion soup. It was super light and delicious and it came out a perfect hot temperature! Most sushi place I go to the soup are pretty much just warm. Had the squid salad to share and that was nice and flavorful. Definitely would order again. Also order the shrimp and vegetable tempura off happy hour. It was really good. I usually just get just vegetable tempura at most places. A lot of time the shrimp would come out too soft so it's not my go to app but I decided to try theirs. Their shrimp tempura were so flaky and had such a nice crunch to them. And their tempura sauce was also flavorful but light if that makes sense. We had some nigiri and sashimi. They were nice as well! I like how it was nicely cut. And not so thin or too thick. It was just right. For the nigiri it was perfect amount of rice. Our server was very attentive. Always gave us refill on our water once he saw it was empty. And cleaned empty plates promptly. Also even tho we were seated at table. The sushi chef would come over and check if everything tastes fine. Which was nice. The man preparing our meals checking in. Will come again! For sure!

3.5 stars overall but a 3 would be a bit unfair. Compared to other options in the immediate area though, I think it's a great choice for fresh quality sushi. Can't speak to the rolls as I'm not a roll guy, but based on everything else we got, they'll be a solid choice. Overall I wasn't blown away, but would classify here as a good quality, dependable option. For an entree I ordered the sashimi dinner, which came with 15 nicely cut pieces. It consisted of the basics - tuna, salmon, snapper What impressed me here was the quality of the fish. It was definitely fresh and not recently-defrosted. The tai was actually tai, complete with skin, which you don't actually see very often (often tai is tilapia or some inferior fish). They also have plenty of hot/cooked Japanese cuisine as well as a full bar. The grilled squid and gyoza where okay but again, not memorable. One thing to note...it seems pretty spendy for the area. Non-HH special for 2 pieces of sush was $6 for spicy tuna, $8 for ikura, $9 for uni, for example. If you didn't go for a "dinner" you could drop some serious coin here. If that's your style, go for it, because you won't be disappointed. But if you're looking for $7 or $8 futomaki rolls, you're not going to find them here. Notes: Quality of fish - 8/10 Quality of non-fish sushi - n/a Quality of non-fish dishes - 7/10 Happy Hour: 8-close (don't recall the earlier one, but they have it)

This place was a surprise solution to our dilemma of impromptu Saturday dinner date night. Where to eat? Shall we venture into Minneapolis or stay local? Shall we do Mexican, Chinese, American, or Fancy? Of course, we consulted the wonderfullness of Yelp and found that a new sushi place in our Edina neighborhood opened up. Even better, Happy Hour was 8pm til close and I am always down for happy hour sushi. Nakamori is located on in a strip mall off of France Ave. When we went, there were only a couple of tables of people, but there appeared to be ample seating for any high times. It had really cute decor, modern, and was generally a nice place to eat. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Their happy hour menu had plenty of variety $3 tap drinks, $1 apps, $4 salads, and sushi rolls ranging from $4-$10. These included specialty rolls. The seaweed salad: This made me feel less guilty about eating sushi and skipping my fiber portions. I've never had seaweed salad, so had nothing to compare it to, but it had a nice crunchy texture and was lathered in a sesame seed oil and vinegar dressing that was slightly sweet. For $4, I can have this salad to accompany my many sushi rolls and not feel terrible about eating out. The sushi: I ordered the Spicy Girl and the Winter Roll. Winter Roll was awesome hands down. Spicy Girl was good, I just didn't expect the fish to be ground up and rolled in the rice. I judge the sushi by the freshness of the fish and the creativity around the flavors and textures that are brought together by the ingredients. The Winter Roll embodied this meeting of flavors and textures really well. I look forward to trying other rolls with a bit more crunch to complement the winter roll. Tempura ice cream: there are many flavors such as mango, green tea, red bean, vanilla. We went with vanilla this time and it was okay. I have had the tempura much crunchier at other sushi/hibachi places, and unfortunately this was the disappointment of the meal. I am hoping that this was a fluke, because I would really like to try the red bean next time I am there! As far as non sushi food goes, my husband enjoyed his hibachi chicken that was accompanied with soup, salad, noodles, vegetables, and shrimp. He opted to add extra fried rice for $3. Chicken was flavorful and moist, vegetables were perfectly stirfried and most of all the fried rice was not wet and nasty, but a delicious blend of egg, oil, and rice. Yes, we have eaten at places that screw up fried rice, and we were glad this place was not one of them. We'll be back for sure to try the many other items they have on their menu.

Really great value! What can I say, their fish/rice ratio is awesome; picture a perfect spicy tuna roll with just a thin layer of rice and about 85% fish. I'll be back

Wow! I was completely blown away by the quality and service in this small sushi bar. Incredible menu, the most fresh and delicious rolls I've had yet, and the most friendly staff of any restaurant I've found in the Twin Cities area. The Spicy Girl roll is AWESOME, as well as their signature Nakomori roll (if you like sashimi). I couldn't be happier with my choice to dine here.

Great food and service, despite the bizarre location. Fabulous happy hour specials on rolls, too!! We will definitely be back :)

Food is great. Really good sushi and the presentation is awesome. Miso cod is pretty good, not amazing.

Do not let the strip mall fool you! Very fresh sushi and the staff is great! Highly recommend the Dancing Tuna Roll special if available - spicy, sweet, and incredibly good. Came in on a Wednesday night and will be back on Thursday.

Still loving this place! plus they have happy hour so Even better!! Come give it a try! Nakamori is a place where the chefs and waitress really gets to know you, and they remember you too! Plus we live in Edina and the closest sushi place is Osaka....and that's a chain sushi place. If your gonna try sushi for the first time, I would give nakamori a try. The 2 yelpers that bashed nakamori must work for another restaurant because I see nakamori staying for a long time. ;)

I went there last night with a couple friends. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered the Nakamori roll, Crazy roll and Crunchy roll. All in all it was good sushi with OUTSTANDING service. The sushi chefs are very accommodating and helpful- I will be going back very soon!!!
