Ever since the remodel, service is lacking. They used to bring out popovers right away, this time I had to ask for them twice before they got the message. I've been coming to this location since I was a kid and when it was called "The Boundary Waters" and have always loved the food but as of the last 5-10 years the portions and original recipes like the "Mandarin Chicken Salad" have been altered to be more efficient on costly ingredients and therefore compromising the delicious experience it should be. It's really sad when I have to ask for more of something because it wasn't made like it used to be. I should know, my mom acquired the original recipe back in the 80's and I absolutely guarantee they don't make it like they used to. That being said, the food is quality, no doubt and is still great for any occasion even if the service isn't.

I like the food here, but this review is solely based on the service, if you can call it that. On March 31st, we came in for a late lunch, meaning after 1:00 PM. We were seated in Julie's section and waited. And waited. And waited. Three times she came by and told us she would be right with us. Tip #1 Julie: If people seated in your section had not even placed their drink order, clearing up dirty dishes can wait. Finally after about 10 minutes, she took our drink order. She started going over the specials, as if we didn't have enough time to read everything in the restaurant. Seeing the pissed off look on my face, Julie says, "I suppose you're ready to order." Well, at least you got that right. I placed my order for a steak sandwich with no onions. We waited. And waited. And waited some more. Tip #2 Julie: If people in your section have waited so long for their food, you help them first before talking to a Macy's coworker. The food arrived, and can you guess what happened next? You got it. I received a steak salad with onions. Outraged, I started, throwing the onions aside. I informed Julie I had ordered a sandwich, not a salad. She said she could send it back and have them put the steak on a bun. I told her I didn't have enough time to wait. Tip #3 Julie. That pad of paper they give servers to write down the orders? Use it and don't play that stupid game of trying to remember what people ordered if you can't get it right. Julie wasn't going to get any tip at all, but since she took my salad off the order, she got 10%. This is the second time I've sat in her section and she's royally biffed up an order. So we can't blame that it was busy, because it wasn't, or that she was having an off day, because apparently this is her modus operandi. I have taken note and the next time I go to Lakeshore Grill, I will ask not to sit in Julie's section. I'm not afraid that she'll spit in my food, because she won't get my order right. However, you'd better watch out for your meal.

First My grandma in law took me to this place. Ever since then I go there. If you look around, there are over 60 ppl all around. But I love this place! It's pretty calm. The popover is great, any foods are just great, price is great!

Don't laugh but I like this place - it's a regular lunch joint for us. I would describe this place as a "Ladies Lunch". What to expect: -if you are under 60, you will likely be the only one in the younger age category. Unless you factor in the babies that come to lunch with mom and grandmom. -if you are a male, you are likely over 60 and joining your wife. Food - I'm a sucker for popovers... who else serves popovers?! They are warm, fresh and super big! Salads are good (Mandarin is the best, chopped and caesar are pretty good too) Service - above my expectations of a joint inside a department store Overall - it's a place I would happily bring my mother or have lunch. Service is decent and they have some pretty decent dishes.

The low rating on this review is solely due to the end of service for this particular meal. I have no issues with the food, and this is the first time I've had issues with service. The popovers are wonderful and I am happy that they serve them every time I come. I don't eat a lot of bread products, yet I will not pass up a Macy's popover. I ordered the salmon tostada, which was ok. Don't ever expect to get anything actually spicy, so there will be no disappointment that it's not there. Macy's, bless their little hearts, can't do spicy. It would upset the demographic of their diners (very senior people). So, midwestern fare is truly their specialty, and it's alright. My two friends shared a dish, which I cannot recall what it was. Anyway, the issue came when we accidentally miscalculated the tip for our waitress. She says loudly how much it was that she got and returned that amount to the table telling us we "could split that". We discussed what to do. It was an honest error, as none of us were unhappy with the service or food. We weren't unhappy until then. I have had an experience where this happened before and the wait person asked politely if we meant to leave a small tip because they wanted to know what they could have done better. We looked at it again, did the V8 motion and fixed it. This is the way to ask for a better tip. Since this waitress didn't do it that way, we left what she brought back and walked out. We were kind of tempted to take the money and leave nothing, but even my black New York heart wouldn't allow me to do that.

Went for lunch. Service and decor is fine. The food is lackluster in taste. I had a Salmon Nicose Salad. The lettuce, green beans, tomatoes, were not dressed. The salmon was also bland. A good French Vingarette would have helped it. My wife had a chicken stir-fry with brown rice - but was served white rice. We each had a glass of wine. With the tip it was $50. For a lunch it's not worth the price.

Love the Chicken Wild Rice Soup and the popovers are SO good! I ventured out and got the Swedish Meatball tonight and they were delicious. My boyfriend always gets the spinach salad with the sesame seed dressing...yes, he also bought a bottle of it the last time we ate there. We love going here at night and alway sit at the bar. I know it's a crazy place for lunch, but we love it when its chill. The staff, is kind of funny. You can tell they have been there for a while and the clients are a dedicated older group. Our server was Joy, well trained and stop and tell a story. We're pretty easy customers and very well trained in the service industry. Keep up the good work!

The couple of times I have been here, I have been really disappointed. The first time my husband and I attempted to eat there, we arrived 30 minutes before close. They refused to seat us, stating it was too close to closing. The second time I visited, I actually got to eat. My popover was burned on the outside and doughy on the inside, and my potpie arrived at the table cold and tasteless. It was not at all what I had hoped for! My server was very rude and unhelpful. She seemed annoyed that I had any questions about the food and took her time bringing me a simple glass of water. I never got a refill, even after asking for one multiple times. For the same menu and WAY better food and service, I would recommend checking out the Oak Grille at the Macy's in downtown Minneapolis. Maybe I just visited this place on a couple of off-days, but I don't think I'll be coming back here anytime soon.

While visiting for a conference I joined some family members for dinner and was intrigued when we entered Southdale mall and walked right past Ruby Tuesday's up the escalator and into Macy's..,..and had the most wonderful meal ! My bacon blue cheese burger and fries was delicious! and enough left for a midnight snack back at the hotel...it was quiet, we were not rushed, and this place is a secret too good not to be shared! Wish I had taken a picture of our meals...mmmmm and wish I had one of those burgers now!

Though it was a tad awkward, and not what I remembered from when I was younger, I felt as if we were the only one's inside the whole restaurant. I wasn't really thinking of food when I was in this Macy's, but we had 30 min to kill, both were hungry and hadn't eaten here since we were young. While the food was great, service was fast and price was right, I just can't get past the awkward feeling I had the whole time I was in there. Would I suggest this to others? Sure, but maybe for lunch.

Okay, I always liked this place a lot. I love the popovers, and I can remember coming here in the 80's when I was tiny. I used to love their mac and cheese as a kid. Lately, I still like coming here. The food is always pretty good, and I've been using restaurant.com coupons, which saves money. I, however, was not impressed with my last trip, and I left before even ordering. We literally sat for over ten minutes with our menus clearly on the table waiting for our waitress, Windy, to come over and take our order. She, literally, went around to every other table around us while we waited. The bottom line: I don't put up with being treated like this. As a former waiter, I know people like to get their orders in early; we don't like to wait around forever to order. There's plenty of waiting around after you put the order in, for that matter. It was a tad busy, but not overly so. She could have spent the thirty seconds to come over and get our order. We waited ten minutes for her to take our order, and that was enough. If it wasn't for the coupon, which makes you pay 18% gratuity, I would have stayed and adjusted her tip accordingly. In fact, I think she might have purposely ignored us to work on other tables that didn't have a mandatory tip of 18%. My guess is our waitress thought she could get away with some liberties, as she was guaranteed a good tip. Well, newsflash! I don't tip people like Wendy anything. I have no time for people who waste my time.
