This is the perfect spot to get a very good breakfast. The western omelet was the best one I've ever had. The veggies and ham were cut to the perfect size and were distributed evenly throughout the omelet. It was accompanied with hashbrowns that were out of this world. The coffee was good and they constantly came around to fill the coffee and water. This place has their stuff together! Highly recommend!

Great service and pretty good food. We didn't have to wait for a table because there were only two of us so we got pulled to the front of the line but for others with their families it was a bit difficult to get in. The food was much better than expected! My only complaint is that my hash browns were very greasy! But hey, some folks like that. It's not as clean as I'd like either but over all I was pleased with my visit.

Well I understand that Uncle Louie's is in the greasy spoon category. But as I watched the cook place raw meat and eggs on the grill then put cleaned cups and dishes away never once changing her rubber gloves I became concerned. I gave Louie's three stars because the breakfast food was good. Don't sit where you can watch the cook.

Got the Uncle Lois Scramble. Tasty hash towns. Cake-like pancake. Great meal for the price.

Great diner/breakfast food. The best french toast that I've ever had and the portions of everything is huge. I tell everyone visiting to stop in here.

I always eat breakfast here when in town! (I cannot believe I have never written a review?!) Here is why you must try it: 1. the food is delicious!!! 2. it has the old school diner feel (very small inside, so expect to wait on weekends) 3. you get a lot of food for a reasonable, cheap price 4, it's a hidden gem and hard to tell from the outside it will rock your world I almost knocked a star off for my horrible experience last month. We were there with a group of 7, so we expected to eat at separate tables. Luckily we were able to find 2 right next to eat other after only waiting for 5 minutes! The waitress was at our table immediately taking drink orders. She was so sweet brought the kids some color sheets. After our food order was taken, someone dropped the ball. It was 30 min later and everyone around us seemed to be getting their food and leaving. (tables turn quick to kindly let the next guy eat). The waitress blamed the cook, but I think she did not put the order in at all. We felt bad we were holding up 2 tables and the kids were hangry!! So, we said that we would have to leave if the food did not come soon. Miraculously, it arrived within minutes. Then I was in heaven, because it was tasty! I took half of it home and will still go back for the food!

Giantest pancake I have ever seen. Good service. The pancakes & French toast didn't blow me away but it hit the spot. Mmm, carbs... We arrived around 11:30 am on a Tuesday after bailing on Amazing Grace Cafe (where I know they have good food but the kitchen was "backed up" and the seated customers were about to burn the place down. Seriously. I think one had a pitchfork.) There were a few booths available at ULC (that stands for "uncle loui's cafe", which took me way too long to figure out... :-/ ). There was no wait at all. Also notable - they know how to make bacon CRISPY, if you ask for it. Mmm, bacon...

Awesome little place, very out of the way. Set back from the normal tourist areas but the food is great. Traditional dinner setup and it's very fast paced. Made it there for a late breakfast and the service was really good. Be careful of timing, the lines can get long which I was surprised at. Good coffee and plenty of it

Not only is this place incredibly inexpensive, it's delicious. 1- Service. Yes, it's not great. But what do you expect with a place that gets super packed and is lower priced than other brunch places? 2- Food. Everything is tasty; the French Toast is a great place to start if you don't know what to get. Side note: if you're on a diet of some sort... do not come here! Their portions are pretty large for the price, and they're very greasy as some other yelper mentioned. I can't help but feel 5 pounds heavier leaving. 3- Ambiance. It's got a small town feel to it, which I personally enjoy more often than not. If you're unsure of where to go for breakfast in Duluth, I'd suggest starting here. I've definitely had my eggs come out wrong, or undercooked, or some other small issue that probably could've been fixed had I spoken up. To others who say their food never came or something was undercooked... maybe you should just say something and they'll be more than happy to remake it! Not ideal, but a solution.

It seriously blows my mind that this place has such a good rating. Every aspect of my meal was awful. For starters, it was packed. The place is so weirdly laid out that you have to play human tetris, flattening yourself up against the wall to let a person pass. Next was the service. I realize it was super busy, but literally every server I came in contact with was ridiculously rude and inattentive. My table's server cut me off multiple times. She tried to leave the table before I even placed the order. The servers flat out refused to help people at tables that weren't theirs. Then there was the food. Pretty much every part of my order was wrong. I ordered bacon which never came. My hash browns were barely cooked. They were all white with just a hint of tan on the outsides. The english muffin was burnt black (and no, that's not exaggeration), but apparently they thought that the sauce would cover it up, so it was okay to put it on the plate. Apparently I must have done something to the server with out realizing it, because I feel like no chef would ever send out a meal so visibly, flagrantly bad otherwise. Finally, there was the to go order. The server demanded we put in our to-go order with the rest of the food so it was ready in time, but they didn't even bother starting the food until we paid. We had to wait about 15 minutes after finishing our food to get our to-go order. Maybe this is atypical for the restaurant and I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but this was hands down the worst restaurant experience I've had in a LOOOOONG time. Very disappointing for a restaurant with a "Best Breakfast in Duluth" award.

This place looks like a dive, but it is a fantastic greasy spoon where, for less than $10, you will receive enough food to feed a starving village. It tastes great and has that small town, local feel.

Thanks to Yelp for helping us find this great little breakfast place near our hotel. Looking for an old fashioned kinda joint with great grilled breakfast food and service that is speedy, courteous and a good value. Highly recommended.

The service is what makes this place. Everyone employee is engaged in helping from bringing more coffee, to serving your food, to clearing your plates! The Pancakes and French Toast are to die for. Word of advice: Saturday mornings by 10, the college kids start to climb out of their beds and the line goes out the door so try to get there earlier! Owner works her butt off and you can tell. The place is amazing!

Uncle Loui's is kind of like a diner -- super casual greasy spoon type place that serves up pretty tasty breakfast for those who are lovers of breakfast foods and those who need to load up on carbs after a big night out. Perfect place if you need grub after a big night. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. I loved the fact that there are actually places to hang your coats on the booths. Breakfast wasn't fancy, but I didn't want it to be. We ordered the corned beef hash and the biscuits and gravy. Personally I liked the biscuits better. The gravy was creamy, sausage-y and thick. The biscuits were buttery and fluffy. The hashbrowns could have used some extra time on the grill. There were parts that were delightfully crunchy and brown but lots of parts that were not brown at all -- not uncooked but not really what you think of when you think of a plate of killer hashbrowns. The corned beef hash was good -- a bit salty. I wondered if it came out of a can or was made in house. But definitely passable. My husband and I do the thing where we order two things and each eat half of each item. I think that a full plate of the corned beef hash would have been too much for me. Too salty. We ordered poached eggs with both dishes and Uncle Loui's went three for four. Three were poached nicely, one was way over and not runny at all. We also got a pancake with one of the meals -- we asked for strawberries and whipped cream because why not? It was very tasty -- thick and fluffy with a good flavor and delicious. We didn't even need syrup because the whipped cream and fruit did the trick. Coffee was kind of blah. But we do like some really strong coffee, so that could be on us. But if we are having a hankering for a good solid breakfast, then Uncle Loui's will definitely do the trick. Bonus points for across the street parking in the lot (pay attention to the sign, there's a specific row you have to park in).

We have been trying to find our "go to" breakfast place in Duluth, and we have. Get here early, before the lines go down the block. Then enjoy huge portions of tasty food, and service that ensures your coffee cup never runs dry, all for a great price.

Amazing! Be prepared to wait but get the French Toast wit walnuts and banana! Best french toast in my las 3 lifetimes!! Excellent service, and huge portions for the price!

  • Scott S.

Very good biscuits and gravy: meaty, sausagy gravy and flaky, moist biscuits that the waitress said came from Hibbing. Crispy hashbrowns and lots of 'em. My order arrived very quickly but some others at the counter seemed to wait quite a while longer; speed may depend upon the complexity of the order--mine was simple. Food prep area was tidy and even the floor in the kitchen was clean. Seating was limited when I arrived at 10:30 so someone visiting during a true rush may get frustrated by a bit of a wait. I'd consider the wait worthwhile, however.

Great service and a great breakfast. Old fashioned atmosphere and a local crowd. The coffee could have been a little hotter, otherwise the experience was wonderful.

Good price for an ok breakfast. I'd much rather spend another dollar or two and eat at the co-op or Sarah's table. But if you're looking for diner food for a decent price, this is your spot.

We stopped in here on our way home from Two Harbors from a hockey tourney on a whim, best thing ever! Great breakfast well worth the couple minutes off of I35. Really good food. Pancakes were great, and just a good experience. Try it!

  • Justin S.

Had the 2x2x2 which was ok. The pancakes were very good, sausage links were ok and the eggs were eggs. My wife had an omelet which looked way better than my dish. I gave it a 4 just for the fact that my wife's food was excellent she said and I loved the small hole in the wall atmosphere.

Great place to eat breakfast in Duluth! Traditional, greasy, filling breakfast favorites at your fingertips! 1. Good Prices 2. Large and Filling Servings 3. Tasty food 4. Can be a line out the door... especially on weekends Uncle Loui's is a great place to go for breakfast if you are really hungry and want some traditional breakfast fare like eggs, hashbrowns, omelets, french toast, or pancakes. The prices are very reasonable for the quantity of food served. Not a fancy place by any means, but who needs fancy when you are starving for a big plate of breakfast? The pancakes are huge, the omelets are really good, and so is the stuffed french toast! They have great hot chocolate as well!

If you are going Sunday late breakfast get expect a wait. We did not want to wait outside in the rain, so I don't know how the food was.

Classic fantastic breakfast place. First time going here and would not hesitate to return. The food was really good and the staff was friendly. Dining room was clean. Menu had a ton of options. I highly recommend checking this place out for breakfast.

  • TandM S.

Cool old time cafe atmosphere, but food was so so. Pancakes are huge, and French toast is dipped in pancake batter. Not many tables so expect a wait if going at a busy time.

This is some killer breakfast! Green eggs and ham omelet was amazing. Everything was awesome!

  • David B.

I looked this place up and read through the reviews. Then I looked at the menu before I went to the restaurant. I already knew what I wanted to eat and I was not disappointed. The food was great!! it came out piping hot..and the service could not get any better. Yeah, when I walked up the it was packed all the way to the door. It is a small place but I am glad I didn't walk away. Also for all the Chivers in Duluth, this is the place to go. The restaurant has a CHIVE ON sticker on the glass next to the entrance. And I want to send a Thanks to my waiter that RAK'd me. You did an awesome job my friend. KCCO!!!

Great breakfast. Gyro, eggs and hash browns were great. The huge pancake was the best in Duluth!

  • Karen T.

It's too bad this place is so small- you could have to wait outside for a little bit but the line moved quickly! The portions are HUGE! Service was fast and they kept the coffee coming. The prices were totally affordable ($7 average). Awesome find for out-of-towners.

This place was the perfect small town hole in the wall. We walked by it the first time and didn't even notice it. The atmosphere is amazing. Greasy and delicious food. Service was great. Next time in Duluth I will be eating here. I loved it. Price was spot on.

Best hangover food ever! This tiny diner is a Duluth landmark in my book. It is that place you take your friends and family when they come to visit. And when I lived only 4 blocks away I was more than happy to make the down hill walk to enjoy breakfast here. The service is quick - have your order ready I am begging you! Huge portions, great prices, and the best hashbrowns I will probably ever have. You order them and they come on their own plate you get so many. It is amazing. My life long wish while living in Duluth was that they would begin to open at 1:30 am so I could leave Twins Bar and walk right over for some delicious eats.

  • Sandra T.

It's 11am on a Wednesday morning and there were no tables or even seats at the bar to sit at... Can't imagine what a nightmare this must be on a weekend... I guess we'll never know how the food is here! Disappointed.

Looking for a delicious, diner-style place? This is it. Someone told me about it last time I was here, and it was worth the walk from my hotel. I ate one of the specials on the cover of the menu. The waitress was really cool and told me about some of the more popular items. She recommended the French toast, which I ate (all of). The French toast was my favorite part by far. The rest of my plate was a mix of hash browns, ham, green pepper and eggs. Lots of food! You will not leave here hungry. It seems to have a nice relationship with the community. The local sports teams all have photos on the walls. I'd come back.

Based on the mixed reviews I couldn't imagine this hole-in-the-wall diner delivering outstanding breakfast, but it does! Really good prices, very large portions, and no frills service and ambiance really make this place what it is. Sure, the restaurant isn't the cleanest, but it's perfect for the mornings when you are starving in your sweats and disheveled hair to get some food to start your day. I tried the gyro and feta cheese omelette with a side of stuffed french toast (you pay for as many ingredients of stuffing as you'd like). This was some of the best omelette and french toast (albeit, likely the most unhealthy) I've had. Tons of flavor packed into the huge omelette and the side of tzatziki went perfect with the spices of the gyro meat. The chef goes crazy on the flat top, so if you can grab a table with a view you're in for a treat. Again, I couldn't believe the hype about the french toast here, but the stuffed french toast was really something else. Batter drenched, filling, and flavorful. The cinnamon and blueberry syrups on the table are delicious. I came early so it wasn't terribly busy, but people started coming in steadily, so I can imagine the weekend services being packed. Fast, cheap, filling, greasy, and a more than casual environment make Uncle Louis the perfect groggy morning breakfast.

    (4)
  • Mike J.

The place was packed and I don't know how the two cooks could get food out so fast on only two small flat tops, the portions were huge and delicious, the service impeccable, not once did our coffee cups in our group get below half full, and the wait staff couldn't be more friendly... We will definitely be back next time we're in Duluth!!!

  • Ninja D.

I just went to Uncle Loui's and I forget that it is one of the great greasy spoons of Duluth. On the weekends you will see a lot of college students and the regulars on week days. It is best if you have 4 or less people and sometimes will need to sit at the counter. It's diner coffee and food. It's fast, good, and cheap. They are attentive to keeping your coffee cup full. Pros: *Price *Good greasy breakfast *Quantity of food Cons: *Tough seating for large parties *Diner coffee *No healthy food

    (4)
  • Jordan G.

For being a large helping, brunch joint it was good. They are always super busy, so don't expect friendly service. The waiters really get to the point of ordering and then leave you alone. Me and my girlfriend split the gyro scrambler which was tasty and perfect size portion with the giant pancake. Not sure I would go out of my way to revisit.

Small neighborhood cafe on 4th street, with a small-town friendly service and great breakfast. It was a cold December weekday morning for us, so no line out the door. Service was very attentive -- my coffee mug was always full. I had a French Toast combo, the 2x2x2 - - it was delicious! Others in my party had omelettes, pancakes, and all were happy. I would certainly come here again on a future visit to Duluth.

The best breakfast place in Duluth! I went to this place every weekend when I was in college. Huge portions, sassy servers, and great food. It is very popular and relatively small, so be prepared to wait if you go on the weekend. Deb's an awesome owner. Her and her staff were like my moms away from home when I was in school. They could always tell when you had a rough night, and weren't afraid to give you some grief about it, and they always made sure you ate your breakfast :) Every time I go to Duluth, I make sure to stop in to eat the great food they have to offer.

Best breakfast in the state of Minnesota!! I love brunch and have been to tons of places in the twin cities, but this place is to die for. Yes, it's not the cleanest and they don't have the best service..... But the food is just so good I don't care! GET A PANCAKE! Also loved the Benedict and hashbrowns. Nommmm!

Not sure what the appeal of this place is, but it is a greasy spoon with average food. I wouldn't bring visitors here. Better off at the Duluth Grill.

My whole family absolutely LOVED this place. We would go back there in a heartbeat. Food was great, service was wonderful. My kids loved their stuffed french toast and my husband and I both enjoyed great omelets. Great breakfast stop!

We were on our way home from Two Harbors for a mini vacation for our 18 year wedding anniversary and planned to stop in Duluth to eat breakfast but we didn't know where and who served breakfast all day, or most of the day. So I went on Yelp, and there was Uncle Loui's!! So I read the reviews and we mapped the directions to get there. Once there, found a booth right away and we were greeted with a smile from a young waitress, sorry we didn't get your name. She was great! We ordered right away, I got the Green Eggs n Ham and my hubby got the Gyro omelet. We both had coffee as well. Omg, the food was Soooo Goood!!!!! I can't express what a wonderful place this is. It's small and yes, a little cafe, and it's a Gem!! She kept our coffee filled and it was good coffee too:) Next time we are in Duluth you can bet we will go here. Thank you for the great service and food, and great prices:) Sandra D

Uncle Louis Cafe does breakfast right! At least where I come from. Big portions, small prices, never ending hot coffee, fast service, no frills. It reminds me of the many Coney Island joints across metro Detroit where I spent my youth. I had their jalapeno omelet. Holy spicey egg dish, Batman! That thing hit the spot. Wonderful amount of heat and flavor. It was so much food that I had a real devil of a time getting through my plate. But I was determined and in the end I walked away victorious. The coffee here exemplifies the ultra-light-roast the Midwest is known for almost to a fault. After drinking what seemed like a gallon of the stuff I was barely able to fight off my food coma on the drive back to the cities. Would I take my mother here for brunch? Sure. Cause my mom is cool like that. My mother-in-law? I'd stick to the Sheraton.

My discovery of this place was purely accidental, but the breakfast turned out to be one of the best I have had at a restaurant. I had a delicious omelet with feta cheese, onions, spinach, and tomatoes. There was a generous helping of crispy hash browns along with a huge pancake. I considered the pancake better than the ones from Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown. The staff was friendly and I found my coffee continuously refilled. If you desire a breakfast to start your day, go to Loui's.

  • Chip D.

One of the most memorable breakfast ever. Taco Omelet was awesome and the pancake on the side was almost a foot in diameter. Great food with a great price. If I get back to Duluth, I'll be sure to visit Uncle Loui's.

  • Matt R.

The reason I give this 5 stars: some of the best pancakes I've ever had in my life. Uncle Louies, pre-fire, was a place that my family and I went to randomly when I was really young living in Duluth. I remember the place being so unbearably smokey before the state-wide smoking ban, but we went for the pancakes. Usually wasn't even that busy, save for a few regulars on the stools at the bar reading the paper cover to cover and puffing on their Old Golds. Nowadays after the remodel/rebuild, the smoke is long gone and the place is usually packed with college kids, families of 4, and occasionally when I go back to Duluth, I check out this place for breakfast and I try to bring along someone who has never experienced it before. It's always the same no-nonsense staff that quickly delivers, and patrons all but hover over you waiting for your open seat.

Visiting Duluth and wanted to find a non touristy place to eat a good breakfast. Glad we found this place. A little hole in the wall but the ambiance and the food were amazing. I had the spinach and feta cheese omelet and my husband had the gyro omelet. The omelet came with hashbrowns. I got french toast with my meal and my husband got a pancake with his. Hearty servings!!! Our entire meal was less than $20.00 (with unlimited coffee). Our waitress was very friendly and patient with us being that it was our first time there. The place is small and the wait can sometimes be long but it is SO worth it. The only negative I had was that the young lady that sat us and refilled our drinks was not very friendly. We said hi to her and thank you and she never responded to either of us. Other than that it was great!!! I will definitely visit here again.

Very glad my girlfriend and I waited the 20 minutes to get a seat! Its a small place and was pretty crowded on the particular Saturday morning we were there but once seated we got fast service, the food was GREAT! I had the country fried steak which was one the best I've had, and the french toast my girlfriend had was cinaminny and delicous. Casual to say the least, a great neighborhood place to eat. I will be back!

You know exactly what you are getting yourself into when you walk into Uncle Louis Cafe. The homemade cinnamon syrup is a pleasant surprise, the gyro omlette was awesome and the coffee was terrible. All exactly what I was expecting and (maybe) looking for...? Dirt cheap, fast and local. Totally worth stopping in.

Great food, great price. Breakfast all day long with an option of burgers at lunch time. I've only had breakfast here, but I've never been disappointed with it. The Greek omelet is great. It's basically a gyro in omelet form, complete with lamb and cucumber sauce. The pancakes are HUGE and there's a choice of homemade cinnamon, homemade blueberry, or maple syrup (not homemade). The customers are a strange mix of old people meeting for their morning coffee, and college students attempting to ward off hangovers, but the food will never disappoint, and the portions are huge. Terrible, weak, old people coffee is the only complaint. Luckily they have flavored creamer to help me get through it.

Fair prices and generous portions. If you want a classic, no frills diner that's generous on the hash browns, this is your place. Service was quick and mostly friendly. Because of some health issues, I have to be *that person* who needs to ask about wheat, or I will be sick for a week, even though I really hate inconveniencing waitstaff about it. Our waitress did not hide the fact that she was pissed about checking something she was sure did not have wheat, but she sheepishly came back and said she never knew gyro meat could be made with breadcrumbs. I shouldn't have been surprised to catch attitude at a greasy spoon diner, since that's what they're known for, but I appreciated her half-apology. I'd still go back, because the prices are great, my husband loves the place, and I could live off of hash browns, if I didn't care about my waistline.

Hangover cure. Do not worry about presenting yourself in this joint. The waitresses partied harder then you did last night. They are great servers with special personalities. I get the Denver omelette and it is hands down the best in town. They also have exceptional pancakes. You must try the homemade cinnamen syrup at the table. It's delicious. I went to school in Duluth for several years and this is the spot for breakfast. You can't beat the prices. But if a breakfast burrito is your bag, then you must try Pizza Luce's. It's out of bounds good.

Writing this during our visit and So far the experience has not been the best. The service has been at a minimum. We have been skipped over and ignored by two servers, and two tables around us that were seated after us and have the same assigned servers have had their orders taken and received their food even before she came to take our order. It took the bus boy to get her attention to remind her she hasn't taken our order yet(all of this seen in plain view). Sitting here an hour later on our 3rd coffee refill and still no food. What food we did receive was covered in butter. They messed up my order and instead of taking the plate back the waitress puts her bare hand on my plate and food and takes the food off that was incorrect and puts the food on that was. Didnt seem sanitary at all. Needless to say we ate as fast as we could and got out there. I wish my experience had been loads better than this.

What's not to like about Uncle Louis? The servers are no-nonsense, the portions are large, the food is tasty, and the prices are cheap. Their omelets are delicious-- both their Everything Omelette and Taco Omelette are fantastic. I'm a big fan of their french toast -- while it's not the very best around, it's fluffy in the middle and crispy on the edges, making it a good deal better than the soggy sadfests that you normally get at restaurants. About the only thing I would change is adding a bit more salt to the hash browns and perhaps either reduce the apple-cinnamon syrup some more, or add a bit of xanthum gum or something, to improve its near water-like consistency.

Great food, great prices, breakfast heaven. Be prepared to wait on weekends! I will call in orders to go after 9 am on weekends, then I can just walk right past the lines and bring my food home.

If you are looking for a fancy breakfast in a quiet place, do not go here! If you are looking for cheap food with big portions, this is a place to go. Being in a college town, this is a place that is overflowing with undergrads trying to fix their hangovers on a budget. Portions are huge, but the food is okay. There are many better tasting breakfast option in Duluth, but this is by far the cheapest and you can defiantly "come as you are" You should also be aware that there isn't a lot of seating room and you may have to wait for a while to get a seat. With that all said, I still go here every couple weekends with my boyfriend.

Before people get wild about me only giving Uncle Louis a two star rating please read. I'm sure this place is a 5 star breakfast joint, its smelt great, the menu looked great, and shortly after we arrived there was a line out the door and down the street. Our actual waitress was nice, and she knew a lot about where they got their food. (I asked because of the egg recall) On top of all that, I was very VERY excited to try their homemade cinnamon syrup! The issue we had was with the young (college age) girl who was taking drink orders and refilling water. Right after we had placed our orders the "water girl" ran into the woman's bathroom covering her mouth, before the door closed we saw her drop to her knees over the toilet. After about 30 seconds of puking sounds the woman opened the door wiped her mouth on her shirt and her hands on her pants then continued filling peoples water glasses.... and of course since we were seated right next to the bathroom we got a front row view of this event. If you didn't notice, I intentionally didn't include the part where she washed her hands... because she didn't. So for our own health, we kindly left.

The place my in-laws always want to go to when they visit, but it makes perfect sense why! Classic diner foods, huge portions, and cheap prices! I love the French toast and spinach omelette. Also if you love chocolate chip pancakes, they are AMAZING here. Did I mention one pancake is the size of your plate?!?! Please remember that this place is a diner, and is packed on the weekends. Many college students eat here after a night of fun and mishaps.

This place gets the job done if you want breakfast. Be forewarned that this place will get busy in the morning, always. Also expect hungover high school/college kids to be rolling into this joint having quite the appetite!

The food is cheap and tasty, service is great and its in my neighborhood. That is why it is one of my favorite meeting locations/restaurants in Duluth. I highly recommend the greek omelette - their pancakes - their gyros. Honestly I haven't had anything bad there. I also like it as a coffee stop, because they have many types of creamer, including Irish. Also, they also have a variety of hot sauces. It is really an all around great place to go. Beware that their portions are massive!

One of the two best breakfast places in Duluth. It gets busy on the weekends with hungover college kids.

I don't know what I would do without yelp. My boyfriend and I stayed in Duluth for the night and researched places to eat in the area. We found Uncle Louis Cafe and read that it was popular with UMD college students. They are right on! The restaurant is no frills and simple....perfect! The food is inexpensive, but taste twice as good. We asked our server about the UMD campus, the bookstore and directions. She went out of her way to call the bookstore, to make sure they were open. She did everything short of driving us to the campus and giving us a tour! We are so thankful for her kindness. We highly recommend Uncle Louis Cafe!!!!

Good food. Line was out the door but we were amazed at the lack of cleanliness.. Dirty condiments, pepper shaker had a layer of grim inside, waitress licked her fingers when taking our orders and again before grabbing other people's plates of food from the kitchen. The staff was really friendly except the waitress. would be a good cafe if it was cleaner and better food safety precautions. Won't be back.

The students at University of Minnesota Duluth told us this was the best place to get breakfast when you are hungover. .. Well I was not hungover and I was intially worried. Things are so great hungover: Pizza, Macaroni, any Jennifer Anniston movie. However, Louis is fantastic. The best french toast in the world, I had it stuffed with chocolate chips. The thick toast is dipped in pancake batter but I guess I wanted to punish my body like I had 12 coronas the night before. Miles from ordinary, this French toast was soo good. The omletes looked great, the hash browns were superb, and it was so well priced. I think I paid under $10 for my entire meal. Duluth, MN. enough said, best breakfast.

Food was excellent and the portion sizes were phenomenally big. Best breakfast in town.

Went based on reviews. The food was not all that great, greasy and tasteless except for all the butter they put on everything. Service was just ok. Disappointed.

Pretty standard diner fare. Decent gyros and fries, nothing-special greasy spoon breakfast. Homemade soups are tasty, hearty, and better than expected.

This was a great surprise! Had the gyro omelette, which was huge and tasty. Daughter said her french toast was fab. Coffee plentiful but probably Folgers. (Couldn't get a good cup of java in Duluth, sadly) Large portions, crispy potatoes and the bacon was thick and extra crispy--yum! Waitresses will remind you of mom-- no dawdling, and no nonsense!

Fast and great breakfast is the hallmark of this joint. It can be very busy in the morning on the weekends but it's worth to fix a hangover.

Caught up with a friend for lunch who swears by this place - and I can see why! I ordered a gyro sandwich & fries, she had a cheeseburger & fries. Super friendly waitstaff, comfy classic cafe feel. The food was great! The biggest challenges for me was finding the place, and - of course in downtown Duluth - parking. But once inside - great experience. It looks like their breakfasts would be awesome. Menu says they have been recognized as the best place to bring a hangover. (I'll have to remember that next time...) Great food and value. Check it out!

This is the place college kids go when they are hung over for an awesome breakfast. The cheap prices and the awesome food make it ideal. The location is also very close to where the students who go to the University of Minnesota Duluth live. The good news is even though there may be a lot of college kids there, they are all hung over - so they are usually pretty quiet. The atmosphere is great and it is an awesome place to eat. Def check it out!

The best place for a lot of breakfast at a low price. On a weekend morning, it's worth the wait you're sure to have. Everything I've ordered (and snatched off friends' plates) has been amazing, especially the french toast and the scramblers. Coffee has free refills, and service is quick.

Took the family here for breakfast and I have to say everyone loved it. Portions were large enough we were able to skip lunch. Would recommend to any family that is looking for good food and a good deal.
