Go here for drinks and nachos, but nothing else. The location is nice, the service is usually okay, but every time I order something, I find the food bland at best, dry and processed/chemical-tasting at worst. I can deal with paying 99 cents for chips, but I always find giant chunks of jalapeños in my salsa...bigger than the tomatoes and onions. I don't mind spice, but that just makes it bitter. If they worked on offering fresher selections, I could go here more often.

Just nasty. Food is very processed, margarita was weak and not very tasty, booth tables are too close to your chest. It makes it very hard to eat. If you must; just get nachos and a beer. It's probably hard to mess that up. Oh, BTW, if you want chips and salsa before your meal you'll need to pony up 99 cents. Come on, really!?

Well, based on previous questionable experiences I had chosen to not take my family here on our recent adventures in Duluth. However, after some drinks the other night we really wanted some tequila and salsa... So, we came and sat in the bar. After a few minutes a waiter came and took our order and brought us some chips and salsa. Salsa was okay. We only ordered one tequila ... My girlfriend didn't know much about the spirit and was still deciding. After bringing our drink the waiter never checked back, ever.

This place was terrible! We had tacos and enchaladias that tasted like they were warmed in a microwave! The rice and bean were dry and cold. Don't waste your money on this place.

Excellent location, tasty but standard Tex-Mex fare, prompt service, not too pricey, good family spot.

Stopped by for a late lunch with two adults and a child. Everything was poor except the tortilla soup. Even the chips were old. 2nd bad experience in a row at Little Angie's

Great location to eat and people watch. I sat outside and waited about 30 minutes for a table. The food was very filling and flavorful. I ordered the Mahi Mahi Enchiladas with black beans. You can also order a side of chips and salsa for 99 cents. The salsa is chunky with bits of tomato, onion, and cilantro. Don't expect it to be puréed like most restaurants. The service was great.

We love coming here every time we find ourselves in Duluth. The atmosphere is so much fun (especially at night) being in the heart of canal park. So many fun different margarita options! The food is especially fun because they bring a local twist to many Mexican dishes!

Me and the wife stopped in for some margaritas after a long walk around the area, and were thoroughly pleased. The drinks were superb, well portioned and didn't cost an arm and a leg. We didn't try any food, so I wouldn't feel right giving it five stars, but if you're looking for margarita's or daiquiri's, this is the place in Duluth.

This place was disgusting. Went here with 6 people and everyone was dissatisfied with their food. The chips were stale, not to mention you had to pay for them. Paying for chips and salsa at a sit down mexican restaurant, thats insane. The enchiladas were gross, hardly full and plain inedible. Waste of money and your stomach will be sad and a little bit angry.

Second time I tried this place. Poor service. Food was okay but definately not authentic. They don't offer free chips and salsa. How can a mexican joint charge for chips? Stay away. Don't fall for the tourist trap.

The margaritas are good on a nice warm Duluth day, sitting on the deck. The nachos are fine, too. Other than that, not really impressed. The food is Mexican Grandma's--overpriced for generic Sysco food.

The margarita was marginal. The chips were stale. Food was not good at all. Silverware was dirty. Would never go back. And this is the first time I've done a restaurant review but just had to.

Ate outside on warm summer night. Enjoyed steak and chicken fajitas. Attentive waitstaff. It a nice place to eat a people watch.

Came for dinner with business colleagues from out of town. Our server, Anna, was great. Very pleasant, attentive and helpful. (Hear that, Little Angies? Anna is one of your gems.) I got the Cobb salad, which was surprisingly tasty. After all, it's just a salad, right? I also got my beer at happy hour, so the price was nice. This is a step up experience from previous ones. My previous impression was that the service as so-so/slow, and that the restaurant exists more on it's location and reputation than on the quality of it's food and service. That still may be the case, but this was a good experience. It must have been Anna!

Going in I knew this was going to be a bad trip. The chips and salsa will cost you, as others have said 99 cents. Chips? Waitress said they are homemade but ended up stale in all but one simi-stale basket. Salsa? More like pico de gallo. Chips and salsa were a disappointment. Main entire that I had was the beef fajitas. Meat was extremely sweet. On the plater came 2 lemons and 2 limes. Instantly knew what the main issue was. As well as the sweetness issue, on the plater came a caked on substance. Still don't know what that was, and to be honest I probably don't want to. On a better note, service was good. Nothing to complain about. Food came out fast. And those are pretty much the only 2 highlights of the experience. Personally, I can't say that I would go back any time soon. To those planing on going I say have fun!

Good mexican food! The staff is always nice and the outdoor patio is a fun place to eat and drink.

My 1st visit was a while back and while the Chili Rellenos were pretty good, their seafood enchiladas were crap-tastic! they tasted like the oldest most terrible mixture of shrimp bits and fake crab, doused in a white sauce. Ick! Margaritas were good and the chips were average. Our 2nd visit coincided with Grandma's Marathon and we partied here Saturday night. The drinks are so so but for having 300-400 people in the restaurant and on the deck you would think they would come up with a better way to check ID's. We spent 4+ hours there dropping serious cash on drinks and had to visit the bar with an ID each time. Get with the program and stamp my hand already.

Ick. I was not impressed. I ordered chicken and steak fajitas to split with a friend. The portion was pretty small for a dinner portion (usually fajitas are huge) but even the portion size would have been fine if the food was good....it wasn't. Fajitas should be sizzlin' when they get to your table and these were just warm. Tortillas were also barely warm and the side of black beans we ordered were basically room temperature. Everything had decent (not great) flavor, but it was cold. Also when asked for hot sauce we were presented with some sort of West Indian hot sauce which was odd since this is supposed to be a Tex Mex place. When asked the server managed to dig up a bottle of Cholula. I will say he was very nice and even cut $5 off each bill due to the cold beans. However, I can't say I'll return for the good service alone. It would be a worthwhile stop in the summer for a couple beers on the patio.

LOVE Little Angies. People love to point out how "not authentic" it is. WOW - we are in northern f'ing Minnesota! What kind of authentic Mexican cuisine were you expecting?! VERY friendly staff. Huge patio right in the heart of Canal Park with a great view of the Aerial Lift Bridge and the canal. Love the fresh salsa...

I will have to agree with most of the reviews here. Not impressed whatsoever with the food. Seems like their forte is their drinks and outside seating. Definitely not worthwhile if you are thinking about a great meal. I do have to say that the service is very good and attentive.

We tried desperately to get away from the monopoly that is Grandma's in Duluth (within walking distance from our Canal Park hotel) and ended up here. I wasn't terribly impressed with its decor, although the bathroom was awesome (and seriously, a bathroom tells a lot about how an owner thinks of their guests). We were ordering from the appetizer menu, and loved the $0.99 all-you-can-eat chips and salsa with killer fresh salsa (you can buy it by the quart) heavy on the fresh cilantro and pale pink January-in-MN tomatoes and so-so tortilla chips. Also ordered was the "spicy" chicken tortilla soup, which I could tell had been simmering for hours, in a good way. I cleaned my bowl and thought about it for hours afterwards (again, in a good way). 4 stars for the salsa alone, the soup, and the nice bathroom. One star away because its part of the Grandma Monopoly and that sort-of showed through (the arrogance of having "Angie's Cantina" shirts for sale in the entry annoyed me).

I have had drinks here on the patio in the summer, and it was great! However, I finally tried their food. God help us all, I try and I try to forget this experience. First of all, they brought me the wrong "tacos". After trying them, and realizing how horrible they were, I decided to point out that this wasn't what I had ordered, hoping that maybe I'd get an improvement when the correct dish arrived. Nope. Just as bad, if not worse. It was like I was having some evil nightmare of the return of school lunches! I even envisioned crabby old ladies with hairnets in the back slopping this crap onto plates! I didn't feel right for at least 2 days! I have to say, I have NO idea how this place stays in business. I hoped I'd soon forget the taste, but it still haunts me in my dreams!

In fairness to Angie's, we've only eaten there once. Once. And we haven't been motivated to give them a second chance. If you want decent Minnesota Mexican go to Baja Billy's in the Fitger's complex. At least you can eat their food.

i went to angies with my boyfriend this last weekend. not really anything good to say about it. food was cold with a film on the beans from it all obviously sitting in the window too long. our chips were all tiny pieces broken up and the pricing for the margaritas were confusing. according to my ticket i paid $9 for a virgin margarita and paid extra for a shot of tequila to be added is how it seemed. our server was nice and attentive but was basically the only good thing. i would never recommend this place to anyone I know.

Little Angie's in Duluth's Canal Park is a pretty good restaurant. Prices are reasonable and the food is very good. Try the wings smothered in adobo sauce! Margaritas are good too. The outdoor deck is a great place to take in the sights and sounds of Canal Park. Not amazing food, but always good.

Worst meal and service ever. The waitress was more interested in eating and talking with others than taking care of a table of 8 people. Not one person in the group enjoyed thier meal the food was cold, but the servers acted as the plates were very hot ----not! I would never try this place again. Grandma's was excellent.

Living in LA, I'm a little spoiled on the Mexican food front, so honestly I found my shrimp fajitas to be just MEH. Based on the food I'd probably go with a 2.5. Not bad, but not good either. However, since Minnesota is probably not the place to be going for Mexican food anyways, I'm going to give them a little bump for the friendly service and a fun vibe. Inside it kitchtastic and covered from top to bottom with TexMex paraphernalia. My favorite was the wall you encounter soon after walking in with endless shelves of hot sauces for sale, with all of their fantastically crazy labels and names. Outside, there's a great deck area where you can sit and enjoy your food and a cocktail, people watch, and soak in the sun on sunny day - which is exactly what we did and life was good. Plus, they sell margaritas in three sizes - 17, 24, and 42 ounces - and really, you just can't argue with that!

This spot wont blow you away but I like it. I mean you are eating Mexican in MN. I've always sat at the bar and had good service and margaritas. I always leave satisfied.

Not sure why the overall review is so low for this place. I got the taco salad and thought it was fantastic. Good creamy guacamole and they even gave me shredded beef although it wasn't on the menu. My fiancée got the cheese enchiladas and thought it was decent for Mexican food since we are from California.

Stopped in for an early dinner with my wife and was incredibly disappointed. The bartender seated us, took our drink order and disappeared behind the bar for 10 minutes. Finally got our beers (nothing splashy, but the price was) and, after another five minutes or so, another wait staff member came over and took our order. She had the Longhorn burrito and I had the chicken chimichanga. I can't say I have ever seen a burrito served with barbeque sauce slobbered on it--neither had my wife. She was disappointed. My chimi had clearly spent too much time in the fryer. Both entrees spent a lot of time under the warmer; my pinto beans had a dark brown, crusty layer on them and the rice was dry. The innards of the chimi were fine, but the outer shell wasn't. You might ask why I didn't send it back? That's because we didn't see a server again until the bill came. For a place that is still not in season and was far from busy, it was not their finest hour. Overrated and underwhelmed. That is all.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
