Using these guys for our wedding cake. They have a wide variety of creative flavors and fillings. The chocolate cake with whipped cream filling and strawberries is awesome as is the honey lavender. The owners are very passionate about their products and are very friendly, which is great for everyne. For the adventurous and the not-so adventurous baked goods lover.

From the surface this may seem like just a place to get elaborate wedding cakes, but How Sweet It Is has a breakfast, lunch, pastry, and coffee menu available for a quick bite. It's a little hidden inside a business building, but once you find this little gem you are tempted with their daily specials of soups, breads, cupcakes, cookies, and more. I highly recommend coming in the morning and trying a breakfast sandwich. The enormous sandwich is piled high with the toppings of your choice; including eggs, meats, vegetables, and condiments. They make your food to order and it comes out delicious as ever. Try your sandwich with roasted garlic and roasted red bell peppers for an outstanding aroma to boot. Afternoon sandwiches are GINORMOUS. When they say half size is more than enough for two meals, they aren't kidding. Endless combinations for toppings, but be sure to try it on some of their specialty bread. So much flavor packed into the mile-high sandwich, and it is served with chips and a pickle spear. Cupcakes are very moist and the plethora of flavor combinations will keep you coming back for more. I imagine from the care that goes into their cupcake decorations that their wedding cake service would be outstanding. This is a quaint cafe with very friendly service that is perfect for a fresh, flavorful, quick, and easy morning breakfast or afternoon meal while on your lunch break.

I got a butterfinger cupcake. The whole cupcake stuck to the wrapper so I feel like even after scraping as much as I could off of the wrapper, Im still hungry. The pinkish purpley whipped frosting that was used on all of the cupcakes (no matter the flavor) slid off. i thought using one frosting on all of the cupcakes was unusual. Most cupcake locations have a frosting that fits the flovor of the cupcake. The flavor overall was hmmm-ok, the top of the cupcake was crunchy and the core of the cupcake was a sticky mess.

From the outside and reviews we were expecting a cute little mom and pops shop. We were the only ones in the shop and the staff treated us like an inconvenience. When we opened our bag after we left we saw they didn't even put the correct items in it. To top it off the cake was so dry and flavorless that it found its way to the bottom of a nearby garbage can. Will not be returning

Not mch to look at from the inside, but their little treats are delish while walking around downtown Duluth. Their cakes look delectable and I can understand why they earned their reputation for fabulous taste. Can't wait to go back!

How Sweet it is Cakes (& other deliciousness) is a fantastic bakery/deli. The selection for cakes and fillings is huge and the cakes are always fresh and delicious. Through the years, I have ordered 25+ cakes (19 for my wedding) from HSII and keep going back for more. Red velvet, marble, and honey lavender are my favorites and I highly recommend them. A lesser known (but equally delicious) part of the business is the deli. They serve breakfast and lunch from 8-5, M-F. All of the breads are made fresh and have unique flavors (3 cheese garlic is my fave while my husband raves about the hot and spicy Hellfire bread). For under $10, you can get a half sandwich, chips and a drink. Don't let the word "half" fool you--it is easily big enough for at least 2 meals. I have always been very satisfied with How Sweet is is Cakes. Eileen is a pleasure to work with and has always made sure she understands exactly what I'm looking for. It's difficult to find a beautiful cake that tastes as good as it looks and still has a decent price, but Eileen and the rest of the staff have done just that. Overall great place and highly recommend this to brides, grooms, moms, dads, and everyone!

So I'm a little indifferent about this place. One one hand, I love coming in for their sandwiches for lunch. Wow are they big! Very delicious. You customize your own by pick and choose of what type of bread to the meat, veggies and sauce. To top it all off you get chips, a pickle and a perfect bite size cookie with the full sandwich. And I must say it makes a great meal.. or should I say a couple meals! I forgot how heavy the box was I almost dropped it when they handed it over, its like a brick of goodness! Ok so on the other hand my wife was going to throw me a surprise party and get me a cake from them. She has a diary allergy and she asked specifically if they could do it with non lactose milk/butter (which is common now in the local grocery stores) and she was told it would not be a problem. As the event grew closer and closer my wife called and called to set things up and make sure it was ready to go.. and left messages.. Never got a call back until 2 days before the event, she finally got ahold of the lady and she responded with 'I'm sorry but we can't make you a cake" That just really seemed unprofessional to wait that long to tell her no, and disappointing in the end. So with that said, she really enjoys going to Cake Occasions instead. But every so often I just have to stop in How Sweet it Is for a yummy big ol sandwich.. just don't tell my wife that I do or she'd kill me. Ha.
