DICKEY'S BARBECUE PIT IN BURNSVILLE IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!!! That is what the signs said outside and all over the store. I went in (being a HUGE Dickey's bbq fan... HUGE!!! I HAVE LOVED DICKEYS SINCE I FIRST WENT IN TX... and having gone through 2 of their punchcards the first week that they were open) at 6:30 on Wednesday December 5th. The first thing I noticed was the lack of customers - there were only 2 sitting eating - never a good sign during the dinner rush and something I had never seen at Dickey's before. The place - even though empty - was a mess. Behind the counter was a tall young man and a girl with long hair. The girl with the long hair was playing (yes playing) with the bbq sauce on the food line. She casually told me and my friend "We are out of Barbecue Ribs and we are out of Barbecue Chicken." I have NEVER experienced this before at ANY Dickey's that I have been to - from Texas to Minnesota. I ordered the 2 meat combo of Brisket (their specialty) and smoked polish sausage. The tall gentleman brought out a brisket to slice and began slicing. The girl told him "no, you slice from the other end and at angles". WTF?!?!?! BRISKET is their SPECIALTY and they put someone there who doesn't know how to cut it?!?!? He commenced to cut 2 slices from the tip end of the brisket (and not accross the grain like you are supposed to). He put the meat on the scale and then in my to-go container. 2 small pieces of brisket! Seriously, only 2 and they were tiny! He then cut up the polish sausage and put it into the to go container for me. I ordered mac and cheese and fried okra (which I ALWAYS order there). The mac and cheese was given to me in a small container and that was only half full. I measured it out at home and had 3 tablespoons of mac and cheese. The fried okra portion was the smallest that I have ever received at Dickey's. I had 11 pieces of okra. W T Acutal F??? The girl asked us if we would like sauce on the meat. We said yes and she put literally a teaspoon of sauce on the meat (thank God they have an area at the back to pack some sauce up in containers. The person with me ordered the smoked turkey, a ceasar salad and the waffle fries. I watched as the same girl put the fries in for 45 seconds to fry (yes, I timed it because at this point I was pretty much just logging info for my review and complaint). Needless to say, when she tried them they were soggy, white and cold. We paid our $21.00+ for this culinary abortion and I couldn't help but notice that the staff had the audacity to put a "TIPS" cup out by the register (tacky as hell) with "Tips" written on it with a marker and a one dollar bill taped inside of it. In eating the food, my friend threw the turkey away - but not till I tasted it. It was bland and flavorless - not smokey and juicy like it has been in the past and at EVERY other Dickey's we have been to. The okra was good, what little bit of it there was. The mac and cheese was laughably small as was the caesar salad which came in the same small tub the mac and cheese came in - again, laughably small. The fries sucked due to employee incompetence. The brisket was tough because it was incorrectly sliced and the portion tiny. The sausage was good - as always, but with all the other SUCKY things about this meal, it was not enough to save it. We gathered our to go bag and went over to get some of the free ice cream that Dickey's is known for. There were no cones and no ice cream cups. Under new management... "Shawn" someone as the sign says "invites us to try them again". Sorry Shawn, your new Dickey's sucks.

The first time I went to Dickeys BBQ was the second day it opened. Man you couldn't sit down! I ordered 1/2lb of Brisket, 1/2 rack of ribs plus two sides and I went on my way to work. I found the ribs had no smoke on them and the Brisket was chewy. BUT I remember the manager say call him weather it's good or bad. I called the manager about the quality and he told me to identify myself the next time I visited. So I went back there today 9/22/2010 but he wasn't there. So my wife and I ordered our food. I ordered the same thing I did the last time. WOW big difference. Brisket was soo tender and the Ribs were nicely smoked in hickory and well seasoned. With the brisket, all I could could taste was the well balance between the beef and the hickory smoke. I was so stuffed. I felt like I got alot of food for the money. You get a free pickle which is huge and free ice-cream! I am partial to Texas style BBQ which is all about the beef! The brisket per pound here is 11 dollars. From all the menus I have collected from from BBQ restaurants across the country, it ranges between 15-20 dollars per pound. Two managers came to our table to ask how the food was. The manager that I spoke with on the phone was not here today but I did explain my first experience to the other managers. They definitely made up for the first experience. I am VERY satisfied. I know that getting ready for a grand opening ALOT of work and very stressful trying to handle huge crowds. They have 3 or 4 tomato based sauces ranging from house style, sweet and a spicy style. I am a purest so I like my BBQ sauce on the side which you can order that way. I am really glad that we have more options now for BBQ and Dickeys, I personally welcome you to our community and I have already recommended this restaurant to my friends and family and they have already enjoyed it and felt like they got alot of food as well. I would definitely say this is a family friendly establishment and they have free ice cream! You can keep the kids busy with the free self serve ice-cream while you enjoy the great BBQ! Thanks to a great management team I have some really good left overs to bring to work tomorrow. Gonna be smellin good in the break room and I'm not sharin!

Dickey's is a delicious little treat in a strip mall of Burnsville (but then again what isn't in a strip mall in Burnsville/Apple Valley) Upon entering, you stand in line (which can get long at dinner time) order your food, and follow it as it is prepped down the line. There are a multitude of meat options and sides for anyone... (I assumed vegetarians wouldn't be entering the premises) The prices are around $10-11 for the healthily sized platters, and less for the sandwiches. The food was good overall. I tried the ribs (mmmm), brisket (good), mashed potato casserole (delicious), fried okra (meh, just made us wish we had jalapeño poppers...), potato salad (ok), and jalapeño beans (aight). Overall, it was a good change of pace and I will definitely come back for more.

YUMMERS! Great spot with WONDERFUL BBQ! While the meats are the stars, the varied sides are my favorite! The service is quick and the lines can get long if you hit it at the wrong time. The kids love the free ice cream. I love both sauces, but prefer the sweeter one. EXCELLENT sweet tea, which is a big deal for me when I'm eating southern BBQ.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! I had the pulled pork big sandwich and booyyy was it de-freakin-licious.. They have FREE ice cream as well and when you buy a drink, it comes in a refillable and you can bring it everytime you go (to any location too).

Mmmm, not so much. We were there on the early end of Dickey's Burnsville life -- maybe things have improved. I'll never know. Brisket was dry and absolutely flavorless. And cold. We were overcharged. No, I didn't mention it--by the time I discovered it (my bad) all I wanted to do what get the hell out of there. If you want sauce, get up and get it yourself. The okra was hot -- I had to wait for it while they found it and fried it. I won't go back but, hey, give it a try -- maybe our experience was a glitch to be expected because they'd only been open for a week and were still figuring it out.

This was a fun place to go with friends. Another family and mine went there after church one day, and it was packed. By the time we got through the line and finished up ordering, there was space to sit, but the dining room is kinda small. My wife and I each got a Big barbeque sandwich with sides of coleslaw and waffle fries. You get your own drinks at the soda dispenser in a souvenir cup. The food tasted good- waffle fries especially. The barbeque was VERY smokey, more than I've ever tasted and I grew up in (one of) "the barbeque capital of the world", Lexington NC (I wouldn't say this is 'authentic' southern barbeque, sorry). I'm all for smokey, and when you get some sauce mixed in it works. The problem was that 5 hours later the smokey flavor was still with me, which I don't like. Since my wife and I both got meals, the kids ate for free. Major bonus! And they also have free soft-serve icecream with cones or cups. All in all, great place to bring you family or for a quick lunch.

Dickey's in Burnsville is very standard and average BBQ fare. This particular site though is very small and not good for a group and probably not good for a dinner rush at all. Not much in seating. The food was good, but the side choices were lacking - the fries were hard and tasteless and the okra was also bland - for the most part the sides were all bland. It was just okay and to average and so-so to recommend. You do get free ice cream at the end of your meal if that is a plus for you!

What a dirty restaurant! Employees were very unprofessional, music was too loud and I ordered waffle fries with sandwich and all I got was crumby little pieces, maybe 2 actually waffles fries. What a joke of a business!

All I want are darn pickles!! You advertise free pickles, but unlike Inver Grove Heights, they are behind the counter and have to ask for them. Boo. They would be 4 stars except for this. Truth in advertising! Other than that, I went with two friends on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty when we walked in at 11:30, I ordered the 2 meat plate with pulled pork and brisket and the jalapeno beans and Caesar salad. The beans are excellent, next time I go, I will order double beans and forget the Caesar, too much dressing for my liking. Not bad, but too much dressing. The brisket was nice and juicy, but not too much flavor, I really couldn't tell too much difference between the pork and the brisket, but the hot BBQ I put on top could have the reason because the meat was so darn juicy "That's what she said" I dipped the roll into the beans and it was spectacular, the beans were by far the best part of the meal. I got The Big Yellow Cup too, lots of pop for $2.25. Good stuff. My friend got fried okra and I tried a piece, wonderful and the BBQ sausage piece I had was a perfect 10! He said the mac and cheese wasn't creamy enough though. Too cheesy. He's a Dallas guy though, so he knows his BBQ, Overall, great service, and I even talked to the manager after wards, he said free pickles out on the counter would mean everyone takes too many. Ummm...You say free pickles, give me pickles!

This chain BBQ joint just popped up in the strip mall next to the Traveler's Trail Cub Foods. I've only been once, but I was pleasantly surprised with the dining experience. Things I liked.... 1. Price - super reasonable. This is the perfect family dinner spot. I had a Lil' Hoagie ($3) with my choice of meat (southern pulled pork, chopped brisket, sliced beef brisket, virginia style ham, turkey breast, chicken breast, polish sausage, spicy hot links or pork ribs). Add in two sides for $2 and you can choose from waffle fries, fried okra, jalapeno beans, mac & cheese....the list goes on. 2. FREE soft serve ice cream and pickles (BIG jumbo pickles). Who doesn't love free stuff? 3. Customer service was excellent. The manager personally greeted each table and even cleared the tables - which is rare at an order-at-the-counter, fast food style joint. He also handed out punch cards and discount coupons for future visits. 4. All drink cups are eco-friendly - big, yellow (kinda cute) recycleable, disher washer safe ones. Yay for no styrofoam! More places should do this. In summary, the food isn't rock-your-world amazing, but it's good and definitely on par with Famous Dave's for a much cheaper price. Final note (this is getting long) - they even have lots of family pack options that seem really reasonable. For example, $28 feeds 4-6 and buys you 2 meats (1 lb. each), 3 sides (1 pint each), plus 6 rolls and BBQ sauce. Who wants to picnic?!

Free ice cream cones with purchase!

Once in a while the food is OK here, but two times now in the past 3 months (since they began advertising that the store is under new mgmt) we've ordered a brisket sandwich that turns out to be nasty and full of fat ... the last one was about 1/4 meat and 3/4 fat and burnt crunchy ends. They obviously need to better train their food servers/meat trimmers. Service and food quality is very uneven here and seems to have gotten worse with new managment. The Savage location is much better managed and the food is more consistently good, as is the service. We'll head there from now on when we want some BBQ.

Went to the Dickeys Dec 5th at 5:30 to get some take out. I ordered two 2 meat platters. When I asked for ribs they said the people infront of me -a family of four- bought them all kind of blaming them. Then I asked when there would be more ribs he told me 8:30. So I asked for chicken instead of ribs- the girl said we don't have any chicken left- 5:30 PM! on a wednesday! I said give me pulled pork then pork and brisket on both combo plates then. The guy asked what sides I wanted and as soon asI told him mac cheese he said it won't be ready for at least 15 minutes. I told the girl chopping the brisket to cancel my order because they didn't have anything I wanted. she said "OK". I left. How can any place much less a chain be out of food on a Weds night at 5:30? I like Dickeys but the Burnsville one stinks! So much for the New Management- I give a zero if I could. PS I think I was in line in front of the other Dec 5 guys with the soggy fries and no entree selections.

Got the kids meal and couldn't even finish it. They really feed you here. Hey I think the owner, Dave is the next col. Sanders. As I write this he's out talking to the customers seeing what they need and listening to there stories. Everybody seems to be having a good time.

Nice smokey flavor to meats. Ribs and brisket are favorites. The waffle fries are good, but all the other sides are blah! Free ice cream cone is a nice finish. Price is moderate.

Fast, hot, cheap, fresh and flavorful. I think they got a good thing going. Try the hot BBQ sauce... It's great.
