Visiting Bemidji to see the famed Paul Bunyan statue, I heard about the Minnesota Nice Cafe. I was unsure how to find it but lucky for me, Bemidji isn't that huge so I found this ordinary looking restaurant. Inside, the decor is nicer. Local artwork, such as paintings of wildlife and landscapes, are on display. But how does the food stack up? It stacks up excellently! The selection is varied, even boasting gluten-free offering and iced coffee! I went with the country fried steak which was topped with country gravy and came with eggs, potatoes (I chose hash browns) and toast (wheat). The food was on a small plate, but was more than sufficient for me. Don't pass this place up. Anyone visiting Bemidji needs to eat here!

Oh, breakfast doesn't get much better than the MN Nice Cafe! Come with an empty stomach and be prepared to leave with it full, because you're gonna want to eat everything on your plate. We had a stop over in Bemidji on our way home from a road trip weekend and began tootling around the downtown district when we happened upon the cafe that night. I noticed that it had gotten great reviews from other Yelpers and we decided to head their the next morning. What a homecookin' treat that was! Between the two of us, we had pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy! We tried but couldn't quite eat all of it, but we did give a valiant effort. The eggs were flavorful (which you don't always get at a restaurant unless they're organic or cage-free), pancakes were fluffy, sausage had just the right amount of spices, hash browns were cooked to the perfect blend of crunchy and softness, and the biscuits and graver were out of this world! Moist biscuits and a great gravy that was spicier and had more flavor than you usually get with the dish (almost tasted like they added red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to it...whatever they did, it works)! The service was great too. It was just nearing the end of the busy morning rush, but still there were many tables of customers and we were never left waiting for an extended amount of time for anything! Impressive! You have to stop here for a satisfying meal. They do have lunch options, but let's be serious...with these breakfast options, why try anything else!

Walleye Chunks Basket - This is delicious! The fries are cooked just right with good seasoning. The only drawback was that I found a few bones in the fish chunks, you just need to be extra careful when eating this tasty, regional treat. The bones wouldn't deter me from ordering again, it was that good.

I love a good breakfast out, and the sheer number of menu choices here made me giddy. But, even though the waitress had never tried them, I went with the wild rice pancakes and I'd never change that. They were so good. The texture was totally changed. I've eaten a lot of pancakes in my life, but these were different and very worth it. The restaurant was crowded at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. Already can't wait to go back for this same dish.

My family stopped here for a late breakfast. The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere friendly, everything you'd expect from a place that calls itself "nice". As much as we each enjoyed the meal we ordered, we couldn't resist eating off each other's plates. Everything was so good! We look forward to our next visit.

Not great for what you pay for and each time I've been there (3 times) I've had terrible service. The atmosphere was okay but not worth the 15 min wait for water.

Good spot for good eats! I had the "Paul's Stupendous" and was not disappointed. It was a good burger for the price. If I where to go back I'd try something from the breakfast menue which seems to be more in their chopping block!

Swedish meatballs. Enough said! They make the yummy sour cream and cucumber salad my grandmother used to make. The reubens are excellent as well-the homemade marble rye is delicious.
