Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

El Azteca continues to delight week after week with fresh ingredients and fast service. We've tried ALL of the Mexican options in NW Minneapolis and this is by far and away the best food and service in the 'burbs.

This is a great little mexican place. The bean dip is so yummy! We came for lunch and both of our meals were more than plentiful and very good. The staff is very courteous and attentive to our needs.

The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food is reasonably priced and always comes out hot. The white sauce that is served with the chips and salsa is the best! I have not found it anywhere else. I have the chimichangas every time I go. I highly recommend.

Seafood enchiladas, fajitas. Not authentic . Better than Acapulco's. But still it's ok, bland food. I can not call this Mexican food. The host would not let us sit where we want, the waiter was nice. I'm not coming back The quest for Mexican food in Minnisota continues.... :(

We've been here before so my expectations were not that high the food is just OK here, nothing special. It seemed very salty this time but what really stood out this visit was just how bad the service was and just how important the presonality and mood of the waiter can be when it comes dining out. Even a reasonable bill cannot make up for poor service. Our waiter clearly didn't want to be there and clearly didn't want us to be there. I don't think us being therewill be a problem for him from now on. I'll opt for the longer drive next time to somewhere that has waiters that enjoy their work.

Wife and I Had the dinner in thier outside patio. I had the Texas Fajita and she had a combo platter. More food than we could possibly eat. About $50 for dinner with 3 marg and LI tea. Drinks and food were very good

Food is above average, staff was solid. Sat outside on a nice night only to have a group sitting behind us light up and smoke right on the patio while we were eating. Asked the staff why this was allowed and was told it was OK back near that table....odd. It is against the law. That reason alone will keep us getting our Mexican food at a different place.

We've been here twice now. The first time, the margarita was strong and delicious, the food was delicious, and the staff was friendly. A few weeks later at tonight's meal, things couldn't have been any different. Let me preface this with neither my aunt, nor I, ever complain or send back food at restaurants. This being my first, and probably only review, should speak volumes. With that being said... The margarita came without alcohol. The service was so bad, we had to ask someone cleaning up to have our order taken. The food was appalling, and it was a taco salad. There was no lettuce, the flavor was disgusting, and it was like soup. After our food was brought out, a server never came back to ask how things were. We finally just went to the front. When we stated how poor the food and service was, they just stared at is. It was the most awkward, awful experience. Definitely will not be returning.

Cute little place. La favorita was worth the money. Big beers for $4.50! Yummy chips with salsa and a white ranch like sauce. Better than average Mexican.

This is our favorite place to eat in the Anoka area. The service is super fast, the food is good, and the margaritas are reasonably priced. We often get a "parada" plate for two, and take home the leftovers.

El Azteca is El Yucko! I actually feel bad to report this because all of the staff are SOOO nice! And the service is very good. One of the main dudes actually played the guitar for my young daughter. Unfortunately, this doesn't make up for the food. I live very close by and I stopped in with my daughter on whim. I've actually been there three or four other times in the past eight years. It's the same as before, not too great. I should have known better. My wife won't even go there anymore. First, the chips and the dip. The salsa style sauce was decent but super watery. I could have gotten more stuff to stick to my chips by dipping them in Campbell's Tomato Soup! The white sauce tasted like pure mayo out of a jar. Second, the appetizer. The jalapeno poppers were okay. They were served on a sickening pile of iceberg lettuce and some crappy, tasteless shredded cheese. Third, the entree. I had the Burrito Ranchero. The rice was overcooked, the re-fried beans were watery, and the shredded beef in the burrito was way too salty, combined with a weird barbecue seasoning. I was particularly irritated about the $2.29 cup of coffee that was burnt AND lukewarm. In short, nothing seemed fresh and it all tasted like it was frozen, deep fried, and/or scooped out of a hot table. In hind sight, I'd rather go to Wendy's, next door. Again, it's too bad I have to lay it out like this because the staff seem like genuinely nice people. For the life of me, I don't understand why there are so many of these around the Twin Cities. Do the majority of Minnesotans really think this is good Mexican style food? All you have to do is drive to Northeast Minneapolis or to West St. Paul (and other locales) to find some really rockin' Mexican fare. I've only been to this El Azteca. Maybe the other locations are better. Again, I'm left feeling like the NW metro is really lacking in good food. I haven't given up my hunt yet though. -Daddy Maxx Retro

Oh this place is fantastic! The texas margaritas are delicious. We got a parillada plate that was supposed to feed two but all four of us were sated. The food was great and our waiter Oscar was hilarious and friendly. We had a great time.

I've eaten here several times because of the convenience of the location to my home. The food is below average at best and out and out nasty on occasion. Stay away from the margaritas as they are equally gross. That mexican staff use to refer to us as "gringo's" when they waited on us which might be offensive (if I worried about that sort of thing), but I haven't been called that in a while. The only thing on the menu worth eating IMO is the fajitas which are better than average. Sorry, I try to support local restaurants but after my latest epic fail dinner #4 combination meal, I had to write this review.

Always our favorite, food is very good can never get enough of the nacho cheese sauce. Shrimp quesadilla is the best.

I was really hoping for an authentic Mexican meal which I am desperately looking for, but I was fairly disappointed in the food, not that the place didn't look nice or that the food was bad it just was so similar to every other Mexican food place. The torts did not look homemade and the meat looked like it almost came out of a crockpot. Overall if you want a good beer and a margarita not too bad but don't look for anything to amaze your taste buds
