YUM YUM YUUUUMMMMMMMM. Michelle, you are ALWAYS delivering the greatest and most friendly service!! Jay, your Thursday All-You-Can-Eat Fiesta Bar is simply unmatched! The ONLY problem I have with Casa Rios, is that I crave it almost every single day :) If you're in Downtown Anoka and you're thirsty for a drink or hungry for a delicious meal (that's one heck of a deal), then Casa Rios is guaranteed to satisfy. TIP: Order their Queso on EVERYTHING. Their queso sauce goes great on this, that, and everything else. I tried to order it as a drink once. They chuckled at me...I don't think they realized I was serious. ;)

Excellent food! You have to have the Casa Nachos! Excellent service and great food... For a Minnesota Mexican food restaurant. I am from California so I tend to be tough to please in this department. Overall great place!!

I freely admit to being a tex-mex snob, and this is pretty much what I expected from a midwestern tex mex place (maybe an incremental increase from some of the chains I have endured out here). The chips were about acceptable levels, as was the salsa. I had the burrito and was disappointed, it felt heavy and the sauces on the side were meek at best. I will say I did like the little corn thing that came on most of the plates. It was a tossup who liked it more, me or my daughter.

EXCELLENT FOOD....slow and crap service. When a large glass of water goes without being filled and you need to ask for your alcoholic drink to be replaced, stack your plates and push it to the end to get her to take them...NOT COOL!! I live In CA, but I am from here, and this is the worst service I have ever had!! She was very nice, but very inefficient! Sorry. Just sayin

This place is by far the best Mexican food in the area. I used to be a vegetarian and gluten free--and they had real options! The service has always been good and the food even better. Although I live in Minneapolis, I try to make it out here once a month for their spinach mushroom enchiladas! I highly recommend the queso, and you can buy it to take home, too!

The naked taco was good, they were very accommodating with the changes I made to my order. Service was fast and friendly. Not completely authentic, but good eats. And the corn cakes were delicious!

Nice location and decor. Chips and salsa were great. I had the 5$ chicken burrito lunch special which was delish! A large burrito stuffed with chicken~glad the red (ranchero?) seasoning mixed with the chicken was not too strong as I don't care for the red sauce and prefer the green that smothered the chicken burrito. The rice was odd with carrots and peas in it. I loved the beans, better than the average paste like mush. The corncake thing was more like a soft blob of sweet creamed corn with cornmeal. My two gal pals had the pick two lunch and they liked thier choices as well. The two 11 year old girls were glad to find fries on the menu as one of them was not happy with our restuarant choice. Our waiter whose name we never got or, forgot was a great guy who was good with the girls~who sat at a different table. Still very impressed with how good the burrito and beans were! The margarita's were average~weak. Casa Rio is way better than the Don Julio's chain crap near my house.

I'll preface this with saying I'm hard to please when it comes to Mexican food. I've eaten at many great Mexican restaurants and usually the first sign I'm in for trouble is when I open the menu and don't see Chiles Rellenos. Not that I'd give a negative review if it's not on the menu, but more along the lines that if you don't have that staple food it's probably your typical Minnesotan restaurant that is toned down for bland palates. Sadly at this restaurant it more or less holds true. Just about everything I've tried tastes pretty bland to me. Maybe I'm missing something here as so many people love this place. So here's my reasons for earning 2 stars. Service, absolutely love it, not sure if it's the owner we always talk to but they're almost unmatched throughout the twin cities in this regard. Chips and salsa, unbeaten without a doubt. I have several favorite Mexican restaurants that are unbeatable but man, this place destroys them with their Chips and salsa. Also, give their spicy salsa a try, it's completely unique to anything I've ever had before. Finally, if you have to pick something on the menu, try to get something with chorizo, got to give them points for serving it.

Great family run Mexican restaurant. They have a good variety on the main menu but my husband and I especially love the Fiesta buffet every Thursday nite. It's 9.99 for traditional Mexican buffet- always fresh and hot.

We stopped in for some lunch the other day and had a great meal. I had the meat lovers burro, and my girlfriend had the chicken chimi w/ queso sauce. Both very good. Service was a bit slow (tail end of taco Tuesday lunch rush). Waters didn't get refilled... Free chips and salsa with a kick kind of require extra water :) We left happy and full though. The server was professional and friendly. Great place, avoid at noon on Tuesdays though... Seemed like it was too busy for them to keep up.

Amaizing food at a great price. I ordered the Fajita Enchiladas with steak it was $11.89 and I had to take 2/3 of it home because it was so big! It was also very tasty! Reminded me of Estiban's which used to be in this location and used to be a staple of Anoka and always had the best enchiladas in the cities. They also have a great taquila selection including my fav Milagro, Cabo Wabo, Don Julio, ect. $3 house margs. The salsa and chips are also some of the best around. And I can't forget to mention the super friendly service! :) I will be coming back!

We eat at Casa Rio a lot because it is fresh food and fantastic tasting. Last night, our business hosted nearly 50 people from around the Minneapolis metro. When we thought of what food to serve, we thought of Casa Rio. When I contacted Jay and told him what we were considering, he thanked us and sent the catering menu. I will say I was shocked when all I saw were two catering items. The first was a stripped down Taco Bar and the next was another Taco Bar with more stuff. I figured, might as well go with the larger Taco Bar. WOW!! So much great food. What Jay didn't tell me was that with this larger Taco bar, you can make Taco's, Burritos (with the supplied soft shells), nacho's (with the garnishments and queso dip), and Taco Salad (with the Fried Taco Shells). We are SO SO SO happy we chose Casa Rio, and so were our guests. Thank you, great job!

5 Stars best chips and salsa I can't believe I was eating cardboard served by the other Mexican restaurants. We had the pick two everything was fabulous and very inexpensive! Super 4 dollar house Margarita from scratch no sour bottle mixes! Service was fantastic food came right from the kitchen piping hot! Great decor light and music we can't wait to go back and try the Naked Burrito highly recommended!

We went here for Mothers day brunch and it was great. It is easily the most reasonable brunch for Mothers day and the food was great. The chocolate was a nice touch especially for the kids. I have always had a good experience eating here.

Food is very good. The Casa Nachos with chorizo are a meal in themselves. I love the corncake (very sweet and moist). The Mahi Mahi is a little heavy on the seasoning in the breading, but none of it tasted "fishy." the naked burrito is a clever taco salad, with burrito filling underneath. The chimi was lightly fried and not greasy. The only thing I didn't like at all was the sangria. It was almost like a "mix" or something. The staff was awesome. Very personable, and clearly proud of the place. One offered to give me a few jalapeños from a different provider, just to see what I thought. They genuinely care about their customers. I'd definitely go back here

Wednesday night they have a Date Night Special. $21.99 for 2 house margarita's, chips and queso and Fajita's for two. It was all great, highly recommended.

While visiting Anoka we had a coupon from restaurant.com and I found this place to have great steak tacos and my wife had the mahi mahi fish tacos. We mixed and matched... Yummy!

Great spot! Authentic steak tacos were fantastic, as was the steak burrito. We will be back.

Great chips and salsa.. but those sea food enchiladas.. Amazing! Stuffed full of fish and shrimp. And apparently they do $1 taco Tuesdays.. Gonna have to check that out as well..

I think it's overrated but I'm a Mexican freak. When you don't do mole sauce I don't think your Tex-Mex. but there probably is not one better within 10 miles. The waitstaff isn't always warm and fuzzy . See the other reviews. My grand daughters love their nachos. And the margaritas are okay. I'll try their steak tacos next time I'm there and compare them to taco Loco down in Shakopee.

Found it by accident the first time and was surprised as hell. My wife loved it. Wife - Grilled shrimp with cheesy Spanish rice. Me- Chicken and rice Salsa - great Chips - Crunchy and salty. 2-fers on beers during happy hour. 2nd time was just as good, staff was just as friendly and engaging as the first time. Wife - Shrimp and rice; Me - Talapia dinner. Again, the food was great, service was great, staff were great. Had some lovely Tequila that was like drinking candy. Lot's of locals come in and eat or hang out. The owner dropped by and asked us about our food and how things were. A word about the refried beans; they are intensely flavored...very smoky which may or may not appeal to some people. The salsa, while good can be more pico de gallo or more salsa; the flavor is fine, the consistancy changes. Those are my only 2 beefs. We'll be going back, again.

Overall a great experience! The location and decor are nice. The food was well above average. We took the whole family and the kids really enjoyed the chips and salsa. I had a margarita that was very good. This was our first trip to this restaurant but the food and experience were good enough that we will go out of our way to eat there again. This food was also a great value. We all left stuffed and for under $30.

Anoka, Far enough out to not really feel like a suburb and it's the Halloween capital of the world...how can the dining not be good! This is a nice little tex-mex place on main street in Anoka. They have a great area where the front opens up in the summer to give you this great open air feel and the night life seems to grow around you. the service was a little sketchy but the drinks and the food were very good. Tried a couple of different things and have been back a couple of times. Now I wish a place like this would make their own salsa and chips but you can't have everything. They're not bad, I just wish everyone would make their own salsa and make the tomatoes and peppers proud. Try it on a Friday night and enjoy the room and the people watching, it's worth the drive. My wife and I went here for the first time. We had a restaurant.com coupon that was good for $15 off, but not on 2 for 1 drinks. We noticed this and discussed it with the server. He mentioned that since we were spending over the required $22.50 on food we could still get the 2 for 1's, so we did. The food was good and our server was great; however the bar manager came out to grab my payment and returned to inform me that we were going to be charged full price for our drinks. She said that the owner has told her not to allow this to occur (use coupon and still get 2 for 1's) as they will lose money. I told her that I would not pay full price as we had previously discussed this with her server and we would not have gotten the drinks otherwise. I explained that we spent the required amount and that the 2 for 1 exception was probably for people that want to get chips and salsa and drink 2 for 1's until they reach the 22.50 min. From a service standpoint and her being a manager she should have made this an internal issue and allowed us to pay for 2 for 1. Instead she tried to continue to explain it again to me. I then paid her cash on a separate tab, on the understanding that we were getting the 2 for 1 and she gave me my change (change for full price drinks). I then asked if she charged me for 2 for 1's or full and she told the server to give me more change...still incorrect amount. Entirely due to her inability to handle this situation in a professional/customer friendly manner, My wife and I will never be back or recommend Casa Rio our friends. I did not feel as if she was out of line at anytime, just believe that she did not appropriately address the situation like a manager should. As for the food it was very good and the service, prior to her telling us we need to pay full price after our meal when we addressed the issue prior to it, was great. We were talking about going back; unfortunately, not now. I suppose the owner would rather have repeat service and a good word of mouth than worry about his margin not being as high on one trip.

More of a nice bar than a restaurant. "Best of the 80's" played constantly in the background, which combined with 2-for-1 drinks seemed to have the locals in a pretty good mood. One poor waitress who had been there "less than a month" seemed run ragged even though it was only ~6PM and the place wasn't even partially full. The beer was cold, which was good. The tortilla soup was a bit thick but tasty and I would order it again. The carnitas was *not* good. Ate enough to finish the three soft flour tortillas and then left the rest of the plate for the waste bin. To be fair, the waitress did not include the carnitas in her list of popular items. Lesson learned: always trust the wait staff, even the newbies...

Dios Mio, they have great service! Good food, nice atmosphere, and a fun location right by all the bars in Anoka! Viva, Casa Rio!

Went there on accident actually. Was going to the bar next door for food when the waitress gave me a gross drink and I ditched that place and ran over to Casa Rio. The waitress was excellent and my chimichanga was even better. I couldn't finish it, so I took it home and I sort of wanted to order another for the next day. When I got home, I hid my left overs b/c I didn't want to share them with my boyfriend and I never eat leftovers, but this seafood chimmi was awesome plan on bringing my cute little senior citizen neighbor lady there on payday b/c I know she' ll like this place and I know my boyfriend will like all the Tex-Mex stuff too. Check out their menu and see if there isn't something you would like. At least come for the salsa.

Been there several times now. Love the seafood dishes. The white sauce (forget the name) on the food or as a side with chips is AWESOME! Give them a try. P.S. Look online for coupons. Usually a $5 off coupon that can be printed to save a few bucks.

Love this place. Its our go to place for when we want Tex Mex. Cant go wrong with the $4 margarita of the day!

My daughter had the naked burrito, recommended by the waitress that was very good. I choose the carnitas, mediocre at best. Chips and salsa, good.

Great food, friendly, responsive waitstaff, bad wine. Overall I'd have given it four stars, except for the clientele, which is way too heavy on loud drunks and their unsupervised screaming, running, yelling small children. Terrific food, awful ambience.

I had a craving for Tex-Mex and found Casa Rio in my search of somewhere to get it. I've been there once and enjoyed the meal. My wife enjoyed hers as well. It does not compare with The Lone Spur or the Tex-Mex I had in Dallas but I will return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
