Great breakfasts, good service and food came super fast despite being full to capacity on a Sunday morning. Would definitely eat here again.

Good solid spot for breakfast when in the area. Wife loves salad bar.

Great little diner in downtown Alexandria. Met a bunch of friends at a big table in the front window that overlooks the main drag. Food (breakfast) was very good. Service was friendly and fast. I'd definitely go back!

Solid freshly made classic breakfast items. We got an omelet and country fried steak and both were good. Okay staff and atmosphere. The decor does have some character. It would be a good pick for a quick stop on a road trip.

STEP BACK INTO THE 80s On a day trip to Alexandria, I asked the gentleman at the antique store which restaurant to have a late lunch/early dinner at. He said most of the locals go here. OK, I'll bite. It is clean with folksy décor. Young, really young servers on duty. Everyone of the customers was a bluehair, OK, I'm here, I'm hungry, so I'll eat. Oh look, Walleye with salad bar is the Saturday Special.. What ? the price is exactly the same as on the menu? So how is it special? I ask if the fish is heavily breaded. I am assured that it is NOT. OK, count me in. So I hit the salad bar, which was pretty decent, and precisely when I finished my salad. the walleye arrives. Perfect. But wait, what's this, a heavily breaded filet? Yup. Ick. Not only was there a ton of breading, it tasted like cardboard. Seriously. So I scrape most of the breading off, and now the fish is FISHY. Oh joy, I'm so thrilled. At least it didn't cost that much. What a waste ! I am going to venture a guess that this is the place to go for breakfast in this town. Why did that man tell me to come here at this later time of day? I should have gone to the sports bar across the street and had a cheeseburger. ONLY C O M E H E R E F O R B R E A K F A S T I mean it.......

Plain and simple, this is "down home" food made for and by people who live in the area. Yes, the food isn't fancy-dancy and the restaurant doesn't have a Michelin(c) rated chef. But you will be treated well and your meal will be at a fair price.

Great food! We had the breakfast wrap and the biscuits and gravy. Yumm! The caramel rolls were so good we got seconds! Super fast and friendly service!

My great aunt used to come here FOREVER, so I might be a little biased, but I still LOVE this place! Our server was exceedingly friendly and prompt--I liked the salad bar and the all you can eat fish fry. Mostly, I love the ambiance. The low-bar tables and stools, the oodles of booths and genteel carpeting and tile...the food feels like home to me.

We usually come to Travelers every time we come to Alex. My daughter says they have the best cheeseburgers she has ever had. Breakfast is usually really good. This time, I was a little underwhelmed. Let me start by saying yes, this restaurant could use a major facelift. I'd love to se the same charm stay, but update the tired and dirty walls, furniture and carpets. It is a bit of a turn off when you look around so I usually try to remind myself of why we are there....the good food. This last visit was not up tp par, however. The first problem was we had floaters in our drinks. Not just one, many. That completely grosses a person out. We asked for new drinks and the new ones had floaters too. The food was good enough and my daughter still enjoyed her cheeseburger. The prices are good and the service was good as well. Overall, we will be back but I'd love to see some changes.

The food was amazing, however our waitress was a tish on the "in such a hurry" she was a bit short. The prices were a bit higher then I expected but the food...awesome.

After moving to the Alex area I was told by multiple people I needed to try this place. Needless to say this place did not live up to the hype. Everything I ordered was either originally frozen and then heated up or came in a massive plastic container. Nothing was made fresh. What a major disappointment.

Most delicious malts I've ever had! Very good price for the amount of food you get. Cozy "hometown diner" style feel. With low seat bar style seating to boot!

Do we have cooties? Apparently so. The 5 of us were seated at the back table, which was fine, but no one and I mean no one would help us. We asked twice for service and the second time the server actually said, "I can take your drink order, but that's it." Well, we can leave and that's it. Waiting 15 mins for a drink order to be taken is outrageous. I get it - it's 11:30 on a Sunday and you're busy, but then staff for it or better yet, have one of the 3 people standing at the register take some orders.

Irish Benedict and House Omelet. My husband ordered the Irish Benedict and says it was amazing! Corned Beef hash on an open face English muffin topped with two fried eggs and hollandaise sauce with a side of hash browns. The house omelet was three a three egg omelet stuff with turkey, bacon, tomatoes and a little cheese topped with hollandaise sauce and two slices of whole wheat toast. We left stuffed and happy! With that order and two coffees it was under $25. Not too shabby.

Everything I've ever had here is pretty good. Not amazing, but standard fare that you can't complain about. Service is very sweet and attentive. I've had an ongoing search for a palatable walleye sandwich somewhere, anywhere in MN, and this one wasn't too bad or too plain.

Disgusting! I ordered the blue plate special, which for that day was pan fried chicken. I was looking forward to eating the pan fried chicken but what they brought me was warmed up, microwaved, chicken that might or might not have been pan fried at one point. It was obviously not pan fried at any point recently. Bad enough... but after I sent it back and complained, the waitress still brought me the check. Really? I'm going to pay for a meal in which I took one bite and sent back.

I can't speak for anything but the breakfast items, but I love this place. Just the thought of their chocolate chip pancakes make my mouth water. So good! it's a fun little place and I like that it's so small town-y. Makes me feel at home.

Travelers Inn beats Perkins in Alexandria, hands down. The biggest question I'd ask previous reviewers, particularly the negative ones, is what was your expectation? This is a local diner. They serve hometown, Midwest food that caters to the folks who have been around for a long time. It's not meant to be haute cuisine, and the prices (reasonable) and food reflect that. The cinnamon swirl french toast comes with icing on top, and is delicious. Food is served quickly - often within 10 to 15 minutes if the place is packed to the gills - and the wait staff is friendly. Sometimes the breakfast sausages are cold, but that is the worst thing I could say about the place. Breakfast here is a solid B to B+. We haven't eaten here for lunch or dinner.

What a great place! Its an authentic diner that dates back 50 years!!! Not one of those wanna be diners, this is the real deal, complete with a front counter full of newspaper reading locals. Breakfast was great. Can't remember having better hash browns than that. And the Biscuits and Gravy were great! Highly recommended!!!

Travelers is a great place to have breakfast when in the Alex area.

Nice relaxed, casual place in the middle of downtown Alexandria. Service was quick and attentive. I had the prime rib dip and chicken florentine soup for lunch; the wife had a baked potato with an amazing cheese sauce. I don't know if I will ever make it back to this town in the near future...but if I do, the Travelers Inn definitely has my business!
(4)Sheila H.
The food arrived in record time. That's because they microwave old food and charge hi prices for their 'diner' style food. The service was not good either. The waitress dumped the disgusting food off and never came back to check on us once - she was probably afraid to ask how the food was.

From its exterior, Traveler's Inn looks like any other small-town diner joint. However, spend a little time in Alexandria and you learn it's where all the "old money" lurks. Many local well-knowns, politicians and the like, often meet here to discuss business. Food is good, but no surprises here. Ham and cheese omelette is a great hangover cure.

Great place to stop in for breakfast. The food is pretty standard and things usually seem to make it out to the table fast. B&G is usually a favorite of mine for breakfast but travelers is usually only so-so. The pancakes are good as are the melts.
