Our food and server were great. I wish I could say the same for the manager Jim. After the way he interacted with customers and more importantly his staff ( in front of customers) tonight I would send him packing. Not restaurant material.

Best Restaurant in Central Minnesota! I'm from the Alexandria area but have lived in Los Angeles for the last 15 years. I consider myself a foodie. Whenever I'm home I try to hit someplace in the area that's not your typical "Fried Fish Fridays", "Wings Wednesday" or frozen pizza cooked on the bar. This place is special. I've been here twice - once for dinner and recently for lunch. The atmosphere for each experience was different but still great. You feel like your in for a cosmopolitan experience without the arrogance or cost. For lunch I went with the Chef's recommended Cuban Sandwich - amazing! I've never tasted anything like that in L.A. The dinner was a special occasion so I requested a special table. They put us at the Chef's table that's in a vault! (the restaurant was originally a bank!!) Unbelievable service with personal explanations from Chef Matthew Jensen himself. This is a gem of the area and deserves recognition. Call for evening reservations.

One word: WOW!!! Traveling through the area and came upon this place and I was NOT disappointed!! My major issue when trying to find a place to eat is that I have a gluten allergy. This place has gluten free bread!!!! I had the Cuban and OMG it was amazing. So flavorful and the sauce was to die for. Will definitely return if in area again.

My husband and I were on our annual visit to Glenwood to see family and found this restaurant through Open Table. We were really impressed with the menu so thought we'd try it out. There was some construction so it was a little difficult finding it and parking but once we did, we were very pleased. All the dishes were well thought out and executed excellently. Highly recommend this restaurant to foodies and people used to good city restaurants.

My favorite place in Alexandria to eat- delicious food from local sources. Try the chicken salad sandwich on cranberry wild rice bread or Cuban!!!

The food was absolutely fabulous!!! The only issue was the slow service in the beginning. We did not receive any service for 20 minutes and finally ordered at the 30 minute mark. Once ordered food was delivered fairly quickly and was well worth the wait!

Excellent food - try it. Nice job Chef! Brussel sprouts were roasted with the addition of bacon and balsamic sauce - excellent. The soup du jour was tomato bisque - delicious. Of the foursome in our party, we ordered the gnocchi (good), steak (didn't taste, but he said it was very good), poached cod special (fantastic) and braised lamb (fantastic). The apple tart tatin for dessert was shared among all and was very good. The only negative was there was only one waitress and it was a bit much for one person to handle. One person in our party ordered a dinner salad that we never got (and were never charged for). But other than that, the food and the restaurant itself made for a great evening.

Great place for lunch. I had Chipotle Turkey sandwich, which was awesome. Other members of group praised the tomato basil soup. Could not stop talking about it. Made for a wonderful stop between Minneapolis and Fargo.

I'm a local and have eaten the bistro many times. I love it! I've never had a bad meal here, love the lunches and dinners. It's a great date spot, or if you just want to grab dinner with friends. Great atmosphere, great service, excellent food! Such a wonderful addition to Alex.

Big city foodies will NOT be disappointed. The pastrami was fantastic, and my wife loved the Cuban.

This food will make you believe in a higher power. Lunch, dinner or both (I have done that on the same day, it is that good).

We came for dinner. To sum it up...slow service and overpriced for Alexandria MN. I receive better portions at better prices in Manhattan... with better service. Cheese plate contained 3 small cheese portions for $9. Dinner was served 1 hour after we came in and was cold. To be fair, 2 out of 3 dinners had great flavor...but again slow and cold on the 3rd. They did remove some cost of meal and the people were very nice. Just disappointed in what we thought was going to be a great experience.

Another fabulous meal at Broadway Bistro. Everyone was extremely happy with their meal, then add the creative touches and great wait staff, it all makes for a great evening. Thanks to the chef for the wonderful duck confit.

Fantastic! Organic, grass-fed, locally sourced sirloin! In other words, quality ingredients all around that you can feel good about eating and spending your money on. This is my first visit to Alexandria but I will venture to guess, that this is the BEST RESTAURANT in TOWN. Cold beer, warm food, and great service! Will be back!!!!

We were in the area for the Grape Stomp at Carlos Creek over the weekend and found this place via Yelp. It wasn't disappointing and I have to say that all the courses served during our evening was unbelievable! Matthew Jensen, Chef owner, was extremely knowledgeable on both food and craft beer pairings. I enjoyed a Finch's Wet Hop out of Chicago. Great experience and highly recommended to anyone from the Minneapolis area looking for a destination restaurant location.

A jewel in the middle of Minnesota. Best food that we had in Minnesota within the past 25 years. Love the atmosphere, friendly people, delicious and creative foods, and price. If you did not visit them so far you are missing wonderful food. They are ready to serve you the best food in a best way possible. Also, do not miss their special events. It will definitely be worth to drive for 3 hours just for the food.

A real find in western Minnesota! The well-curated dinner menu offers something delightful for carnivores and herbivores alike. The food is expertly prepared from fresh ingredients and surpasses that of at least 90% of the restaurants in the Twin Cities. We can't wait to go back!

I will be back. Every time I visit Alec I plan to stop in. The food was simply amazing. A perfect combination of Midwest heartiness with a dash of urban refinement. My steak was perfection. My partners seafood, an absolute delight. We ate and ate well. The place was quaint in a charming way. Our waitress was wonderfully charming, relaxed, and helpful. La Ferme is good, very good. Do yourself a favor, eat here. Alexandria is full of chain restaurants and mediocre casual dining places. Skip all that nonsense and come here. Don't let the French name fool you into thinking it pretentious or haughty, La Ferme is likely the very best Alec has to offer.
Very limited menu. More focussed on specialty meals that are excellent from start to finish. Good wine selection. Service was excellent.

Excellent meal, our food bursted with flavor and was energizing! Husband had Paella topped with Bluenose fish. He said it was the best Paella he's ever had, even in Barcelona. Hmm...I will have to go back to concur on that one. I had scallops with roasted brussel sprouts and garbanzo beans. My scallops were delicious and melted in my mouth. I'm in love with Broadway Bistro.

I went here while briefly traveling to Alexandria. What a gem! It's a fun small place. The chef came out at one point to greet us. Service was good, food was delicious. They had quite an impressive wine list. Highly recommended.

Seriously. We came here because of all the great reviews and it did not live up to them. I ordered the California Roll. Some of the rice was crunchy, some was mushy, and the roll was warm with mystery meat. When I said I didn't care for the sushi roll, our server said "well, it isn't really sushi." What?!? If it is called a California Roll and has avocado, "crab", vegetable, rice and is wrapped in seaweed, then how is it not sushi? For my meal, I ordered the chicken dish and while the risotto was good, much of the chicken was rubbery. Then there is their emphasis on "farm to fork" and supporting local farmers. Our server made a big deal of that. So is there a farm in northern Minnesota that supplies the sea scallops on the menu ? How about the mystery "crab" meat? Did that come out if Lake Miltona? Too be fair, my husband's New York Strip was a perfect medium rare and had good flavor. And our server was pleasant and appreciative of our honesty but this place did not live up to the hype. I would think twice before eating here.
Excellent place for lunch. It was my first visit the salad bar was great, the tortilla soup was awesome and the chili was good. They have excellent wi-fi.

Big city quality in the middle of rural Minnesota! HAD AN AMAZING MADE FROM SCRATCH DINNER! The mushroom soup was delicious and the flank steak with wilted spinach and green peppercorn sauce was amazing. The chef got my request for medium rare perfect! The attention to detail and the high quality of the ingredients is refreshing. Everything about the meal was great. The banana cardamom ice cream was creamy smooth except for the little bits of bananas. The wine selection was good and the zin we picked tasty. Recommend that you have a reservation. We got in no problem on a Tuesday tho... superb big city dining experience. Highly recommend.

We had walked past La Ferme earlier in the day Friday 9/18 while browsing Broadway's shops and decided on it for dinner. I was initially skeptical because we were in a rural MN town and it seemed slightly out of place. We were pleased we were able to get a table without a reservation on a Friday night. The service was friendly, courteous and professional. The menu was creative and well thought out. We appreciated the portion sizes and the freshness of the dishes. The only unfortunate part was that we weren't incredibly hungry so we shared some dishes. We started with a cheese plate (it had gruyere, what seemed like a French triple cream such as delice & probably Comté). We also ordered the scallops with squash broth & pork hock - delicious! The kitchen automatically split the dish into 2 plates without us asking (which we appreciated). The wine & beer list was adequate and we liked that they had many local brews. I would definitely visit again!

Unbelievable! Everything we had was incredible! The beef special was a top sirloin with fava beans, smoked mashed potatoes, and a red wine reduction. It was excellent and an interesting combination pf flavors. The chicken was even better - chicken breast with risotto cakes and a mushroom purée. Incredible contrasts in flavor and texture; creamy, crispy, earthy, bright, salty, and sweet. The desserts were divine.
