The only reason this place got less than a 5 star is because they work at a nearby bar and grill.

As a frequent visitor to Alexandria from CA, I'm always on the lookout for great food, and hopefully to not have to visit any fast food place. For several years now Doolittle's has been our go-to, reliable restaurant for lunch or dinner. Friendly service, very clean, good-sized menu for just about any appetite. Dinner menu offers lunch or dinner-sized portions (thank goodness, because they are VERY generous in size). Have tried everything from soup to beef dishes, but my favorites are the entree salads and pastas. I enjoy eating at the tables in the bar area the most, offering four screens with game of the night. The restaurant area has the capability to serve fairly large groups. Suitable for families to singles.

Always a great experience. This is a great place to go out for dinner or even lunch with coworkers. Very friendly staff and is worth every penny

Nice atmosphere, always good service to go with good food. I recommend the pear salad and hanger steak and/or rotisserie smoked sirloin. Joe our server was wonderful.

We had an enjoyable dinner at Doolittles. The salads were fresh and well-prepared, and the meat and potatoes, and fish and rice, were nicely done. Mudslide pie was quite enjoyable. Server was friendly and skillful. The noise level was conversation-friendly, which we appreciated. Good place for dinner!

Easily the best meal we had on the road from Seattle to St Paul. I think we were headed for Bennigan's and chose Doolittles Woodfire Grill rather randomly for dinner. It was a good choice. We started with the Parmesan Artichoke Dip ($9.75) as an appetizer. My boyfriend said it was probably the best artichoke dip he's ever had! It was very greasy, but in an oily instead of creamy way -- if that makes sense, ha -- so I actually enjoyed it (I don't really do dairy creamy). I had the Flying Tiger Chicken & Peapods stir fry (lunch portion $12.25) as my entree. I was kind of expecting noodles to be involved (not sure why since the menu only lists carrots, bell peppers, jalapeños, scallions, napa cabbage, Thai peanut sauce, wonton strips, and peanuts) but it was surprisingly filling without any noodles. And unlike the other Yelper that says hers was mostly wontons, my dish was a good mix of all the above stated ingredients. It also made for tasty leftovers the next day. I wish my chicken had been grilled instead of those weird pieces that always seem to come in Asian food, but that's about my only complaint. My boyfriend had the Jamaican Jerk Pork Tenderloin ($16.95 -- grilled pork tenderloin, with sweet potato hash, black beans, red bell pepper, corn, spinach, and grilled pineapple). He also really enjoyed his entree. *My* only complaint about his dish was that the pineapple was either minuscule or absent, which bummed me out. Our server was a little aggressive about food and drink specials, but I am sure she is supposed to suggestive sell, so she was just doing her job. Maybe "assertive" is a better word since she backed down when we made it clear we weren't interested in whatever she was suggesting. Overall we were pleasantly surprised and impressed by our dinner at a random restaurant in a city I've never really even thought about. I doubt I'll ever be back to Alexandria, but if you find yourself there I do recommend Doolittles Woodfire Grill. It's probably not the cheapest meal in town but the other options we saw were the likes of KFC and Perkins. You get what you pay for.

Service is prompt and friendly. Large selection of wines and 5 craft brews on tap. Menu has a nice selection. Pork chop was very good. Clean, quiet in a nice setting.

Food's great. The artichoke dip was better than most, with nice sized pieces of artichoke, rather than minced bits. I loved the tuna. Yep... good quality tuna served ruby red, and cool, even in a land-locked state! The waitress even "warned" me before hand that this is how tuna is typically served. :) My daughter got the alfredo with shrimp. I'm a pasta snob, and wasn't about to try it. Glad I changed my mind. The sauce was unique, as it was rich, creamy, & cheesy, but they added a basil kick to it. Very good touch! My only complaint is that the price of the food seemed to be a little high; not crazy high, but more expensive than most places in the area.

I really think this is one of the better places to eat when in Alexandria. Food & service is always above average. Wings were some of the best I've ever had. Loved my Thai Chicken salad. Perfect amount of heat and fresh veggies. Good craft beer choices and our server Stephanie was a a sweetheart.

Love this place. The food is always good and the service is amazing. I love how they open the door for you and have a wood fire going year-round on the patio.

Alexandria is not exactly the other side of the moon, but it is a bit far removed from fine dining. That said, it is possible to get a wholly acceptable meal here. Proof of concept: Dootlittles Woodfire Grill. This Doolittles clearly started its life as another one of the "Air Cafes" based upon the decor. It seems as if the chain's owners are testing out a new, more upscape "Woodfire Grill Concept (tm)." Good on them, however, the woodfire cooking extends to only a few menu items. It is easy to pick on places like this, but in all honesty this restaraunt is pretty solid. Service was very friendly without being overly so. My server clearly cared about me having a good meal but wasn't all in my face about it. The Caesar salad was quite good, crispy romaine topped with anchovies and and a kicky garlic dressing. My ribeye was flavorful and cooked to a perfect medium--I did not need the proffered steak sauce. The beef came with baby reds (tender and well seasoned) and "seasonal vegetables" (carrots, with a lot of butter). Atmosphere is totally generic. The art on the walls remains from the "Air Cafe" days. Music played overhead is some kind of classic rock meets 80s playlist. I'm docking a star for these offenses. If you have cheezy decor and canned music you are not scoring any 4 or 5 star from me. (My secret is out.) The real steal deal here is on Monday nights, when the entire wine list is half price. There are some decent selections between the regular and "reserve" lists, particularly at a 50% discount. They also advertise some killer happy hour deals. I can see this as being a good bar to hang at for happy hour. Another plus: full menu until 11 PM. I see this place as a totally solid choice for dinner. A-OK all the way: Nothing too wild, nothing too exciting, but very dependable.

I used to really like this place but when we went last time we had lots of problems with our food. Hair in the mashed potatoes, dirty glass, chicken bone in the salad. :( The manager did comp part of our meal though which was nice, but we left hungry.

I really enjoyed my meal here. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was attentive, friendly, but not overbearing. The salmon burger was delicious, and the side salad that I swapped out for my fries (at a nominal fee) was awesome with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

In a world...that has only steakhouses.. In a world that has no Starbucks or Chipotle... In a world that cannot, by any means, call itself a metropolis... Doolittle's Woodfire Grill has the answers... One of the newer, un-kitschy places in town, Doolittles is a little more upscale steak houses in Alex. Their menu is varied, and I highly recommend the house salad with the raspberry dressing. Yes, you read that right, I recommend the *house* salad! It has these incredible wonton crisps that just up the fabulous factor of it. (And full disclosure: I've eaten Doolittle's about fifteen times now- and gotten that salad 13 of those 15 times.) I also highly recommend their portobello ravioli and tomato flatbreads- both done very well and perfect for dinner by themselves. A full bar and great service definitely up the rating of this place, and if you're looking for somewhere nice to go, in a world where Subway has four branches, and KFC has a buffet, then go, goooo to Doolittle's!
