Frank's is in Zeeland Michigan and has been operating since the 20's; no shit! Locals swarm the place, which has the ambiance of what I can only imagine is a 50's or 60's malt shop or dinner. This is not a bad thing unless you hate nostalgia. It's all about the burgers folks. You are not going to get served the cookie cutter patties here, it is a hand pressed piece of meat with irregular edges fried on an ages old griddle. If you don't choose a basket meal the burger will come wrapped in wax paper. Curious, but I suppose it keeps down on the dishes that need to be done and therefore rendering the prices reasonable. I stopped by Frank's last weekend with my two daughters after their gymnastic practice and with little other recourse all opted for various versions of hamburgers. I love olive burgers. The olive burger ($3.40) here is apparently from a time when olives were hard to come by in the backwater that is Zeeland. The olive sauce consisted of tiny chopped chunks of olive with what appeared to be a concoction of mayonnaise and mustard. I prefer actual chunks of olives, but if that is how they roll here, who am I to cast the first stone. I have had the double burger with cheese ($5.35 with chip & a pickel) and most likely will go with that next time. My girls live for the fried food so we also went with a side of fries ($1.95) and onion rings ($3.25). Do not order this if you want to live. However, do order this if you want great tasting original shoestring french fries and onion rings that don't sluff off their coating. Ignore the glossy pool of future arterial goo on the bottom of the basket. Salt, ketchup, and life is good if not a bit shorter. Basic stuff and a bit too rural for me, but if you like it, get here and relive your youth or pretend you are back in time. I burped up fryer grease for an hour or two but finished a half consumed patty my youngest left untouched the next morning without remorse.

Neat, little place. Worth a look in the Zeeland area. Burger was good, tasted homemade. Which a lot of people say is a good thing, but I don't go out to eat something I could make myself. Service was terrible. But they hire only high schoolers, and I wasn't great at my job in high school either. Will be back.

I tried them out this summer and it was a typical greasy spoon kind of restaurant. The food was okay. Service was good. I hear the burgers are really good but I don't carry cash often so probably wouldn't go back (they don't accept credit cards).

Great burgers a little expensive but not to terrible and need cash to pay which sucks. Good Chilli and fries.

Franks, I really really want to love you, you're within walking distance of my place, you have tons of authenticity and history, but what you don't have his service or anything resembling value. A historic and authentic place like this should have people lined up out the door, but Frank's doesn't. The place seems great for regulars, that just walk in and take a seat with the waitstaff knowing what they want before they sit down. But, if you're not a regular, you'll often walk in and take a seat without ever being greeted. Then once you order, it could be a while, often by the time your burger is off the grill it's lightly charred, and your side item has been sitting on the counter waiting long enough to get cold. Then when you get your check, you realize for the same money you could have went a few miles outside of town to Five Guys for the same price and got great service and a much better burger and fries.

Your not going to franks for a steak and martini. Your going to support a longstanding staple of Zeeland and a family that is full of great people. Keep up the great work!!

Amazing burgers and service Priced right and has that nice hometown burger joint feel (because it it's) The only thing that I didn't care for was the bathroom situation that was kinda weird

So I'm a visitor to Zeeland for the day with my Sweetheart and we're hungry and looking for a true local place and found Franks. Tim and I liked our burgers a lot. It's a burger joint, burgers cooked on a flat top. The staff was really nice and remembered us when we came back for the second time. It's cool it's been family owned since 1924. There's nothing fussy or pretentious about Franks. I'll go back and so what if the regulars know what they want when they walk in the door. It's nice and I wish I had a Franks in my town.

Rude Service, Long Waits, Mediocre Food As someone who had recently moved to Zeeland, I'd heard time & again about Frank's and that it was a local mainstay that I had to try. I was downtown for a midday Saturday event with my family and some friends and we decided to give it a try. It was apparent that our waitress was extremely new, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, but it took quite a while to get our drink and food orders in. The food was ok at best, decent burger, but hardly the "World's Best".

I just moved to the area and went to Frank's the other day. The sign read, "Franks - Best Burger Around". I was in the mood for a good burger. Unfortunately. I didn't find it at Frank's. The burger was very small (less than a 1/4 lb). Honestly, size wise it was only slightly bigger than McDonalds, Burger King, or Wendy's value burgers. The difference was this burger cost $4 whereas at any of these fast food joints it would have been only slightly over $1. I also would not have had to of listened to a bunch of old men who were only buying coffee talk very loudly (nearly shouting) at the table next to us. Alright, so maybe the burger is just that good that it justifies the price and small size. Wrong! The burger was overcooked. I think the statement best burgers around must have been put up when this store opened in 1920 and before there were any other burger options. For my money, I can get a much better burger and larger burger for only a dollar or two more at 8th Street Grille or 5 Guys.

Very cute burger joint. Sat at the counter. Had the ranch burger and burger with ham. Couldn't decide between fries or onion rings so they offered half of each. Fries were awesome, skinny, not over cooked, perfect. The burgers were both very good too. Definitely will go back when we are in the area.

Nice place but very small burgers and over priced. Service is slow for the place has a very small grill, it took 15 minutes for a simple burger. The cost of the burger was near $4.00 on a steamed bun and the size of a single patty McDonald's burger.

Frank's is a nice little burger pitstop in the Middle of downtown Zeeland. I happened to stop here while on Vacation because I heard the burgers were pretty good. I don't know, maybe it was the old school diner set-up, the slower than usual service, my ADD kicking in, but everything just felt off. Lot's of regulars from what I can tell that visit the place, I only had a burger and some chicken fingers. It was fairly cheap so I can't complain too much. It just wasn't up to my standards with the overall quality of food, value, and atmosphere of the whole place. To put it frankly....sorry Frank's...not a fan.

If you want to step back into the 50s, you'll love this place. Consistently good burgers and fries. Whatever you do though, don't sit at the regular's lunch table.

Burgers are cheap, tiny, and not really that great. This place strikes me as being a little full of itself, and doesn't seem to work that hard at good service or tasty food.

I went to Franks 'Best Burgers Around' a couple of weeks ago to check it out. I was pretty excited because I enjoy a good burger, but it didn't go well. We parked a couple blocks down and were worried it would be packed because there were a ton of people in Zeeland for a running race, and it was 7:00. We walked in and it was dead, which was immediately concerning. There was only one other table there but we got to sit where we wanted so it was fine with us. The waitress came up to us and asked for our drink order, and I got a hot fudge shake. A few minutes later she brought our drinks and I was a little shocked that the 'hot fudge shake' was really just a vanilla shake with about a spoonful of hot fudge. It wasn't good, but I drank it anyway because I don't like to complain. She came back a few minutes later and told us our food was almost ready.....which was funny because we hadn't ordered yet, and it's not like they had anyone else there. We got fries and onion rings as an appetizer, but we watched them sit on the counter. This next part was unbelievable. The cook, instead of cooking more onion rings to put on the burger I got that had onion rings on it, grabbed a handful of onion rings out of our side order of onion rings to put on it, and then we watched our food sit there for another 6 minutes before we got it. WTF. The burger was good. It tasted nice, but far from 'best burger around', which is plastered all over everything in there. They're really trying to convince you of that in any way but with good food and service. I now know why they were empty at the dinner rush even with so many people in town. It was an entertaining experience, but not in the way their owner would want it to be, it was a laughably terrible meal.

Franks is a little hole in the wall place in Zeeland Michigan ( which is another hole-in-the-wall place, but thats another story). Franks specialty is their burgers and they're darn good! I recommend the Olive Burger and fries, which, if you like the thin skinny type fries, you'll love these. Eat them first so they don't get cold! Franks has been there for a bazillion years, and their food is still great! Also, the wait staff is usually pretty pleasant on the eyes. AND, the last time I was there for lunch, there was our state Senator and our US Congressman, all eating Franks burgers. You know if the powerful and famous eat there, it's gotta be pretty good!
