This Steak n Shake will always be dear to my heart, as it was the first one I ever went to. I went with a friend at 3 am after we had gone to Necto for the first time, and we met our waitress Bailey. Bailey proceeded to spill water on my friend, which was ironically the beginning of a long friendship between all of us. Whenever we would go to Necto from then on, we'd visit Bailey, who would take good care of us. In addition to Bailey, all the waiters/waitresses I've been served by at this location have been very good. Their food is rather impressive for the price - $4 for a pretty big, decent burger and yummy fries. The shakes are amazing - my favorite is the Butterfinger. After tip and all it generally ends up costing a little more than the average fast food restaurant, but then the quality and service are also better.

Me love Steak 'n Shake. The food is always good. The shakes are always good. Timely service is a hit-or-miss, but I've always somehow known to expect that from this kind of establishment.

I've had waaay better burgers!! The meat is super thin and only somewhat tasty. Although they distinguish themselves from other restaurants by making their burgers out of steak, I didn't really notice the difference. Also they messed up my order the 1st time by putting ketchup...ewww! They kindly replaced it but I still didn't like it... Their Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad is very good though! It has romaine lettuce, corn, black beans, salsa and chipoltle sauce on top of the grilled chicken and a wedge of lime. Oh and it has crunchy red tortilla strips. I would definetely go back just for that salad. Their burgers? Not so much...

Employees always yelling at eachother, getting orders wrong or mixed up. No lines but super long waits. Happy hour is a decent deal if you're passing by. Have witnessed employees get into arguments with eachother, not sure why? Waited in the drive through for 20+ minutes for food for 2 people. 1 star for food. I only come here for the food, but be prepared to wait. Make sure you check if they got everything right before leaving.

This place used to be a guilty pleasure. So much so that I'd overlook some things that really should have made me revise my 2011 review. What can I say, I love Yelp, but I love milkshakes more. But after my last visit, I'm breaking up with you, milkshakes. At least, milkshakes from gross, incompetent Ypsi S'n'S. At 11:45 on a Sunday, there are maybe 6 tables. There are at least 8 employees. Yet, no one gets seated quickly, almost none of the tables have their food in the first half hour that we're there. The floor is so filthy I'm afraid to go in the restroom. When we finally get our meals, I pick up my steakburger and... there is a hair in my fries. Oh, the sadness! I tell the waitress, she says, "Ew, gross, I'll tell the cook" and disappears. No apology, nothing off our bill. At this point, it's been nearly an hour, so we pay and leave. Based on this and the other times that the restaurant has been dirty or screwed things up, I decide that it's time to go to corporate. I describe the incident to S'n'S customer service and get basically the same response as the teenage waitress. "Oh, thanks for telling us, we'll talk to management. If you have more issues in the future, tell us." Call me old-fashioned, but I like a real apology, and/or some gesture that says they want to keep my business. And a milkshake. I still kinda want a milkshake. But I guess I'll have to go to Livonia for that...

The food was decent, my wife and I got double steak burgers, I got a vanilla milkshake and she got a strawberry milkshake. I got some chili before our burgers came and it was actually pretty good. Both the kids got grilled cheese sandwiches with milkshakes and fries. They both liked it and they looked good. The service was really good as soon as we were seated someone was right there to take our drink orders and then our food orders. The milkshakes and food all came out quick.

Constantly underwhelming. Had a kid (name tag said Tim) stand in front of us at the register pounding buttons for 4-5 minutes when we were trying to pay our bill to leave. He never acknowledged us, just kept pounding away at whatever he was doing on the screen, until someone else came to check us out. I don't think the owners are putting any money back into the restaurant as every booth had deflated seats. Shakes take longer to come out than food (husband was finished with his burger before I got my shake). Food wise it's on part with other Steak n Shake restaurants.

I used to love this place because of the food and the hours, but I don't think I'll be going back. We went late one night and after being sat for 20 minutes our waiter, the only waiter in the restaurant, came to take our order. He left and never brought our drinks. 30 minutes later he comes to our table and tells us that he is just now putting our order in because there was an error with the computer. He never comes to check up on us, which I would have understood if they were busy but they weren't and he wasn't helping the other tables either. We finally got our food and they forgot one of our orders but we didn't care at that point. We started eating and our friend bites into his burger and claims it taste like cleaner. My boyfriend and I both tried it and it did in fact taste like cleaner. We went to check out and they tried to charge us for the drinks and burger we never received. I know late night service isn't normally great but this was the worst I've ever had.

It's a quick little burger joint with great prices. I was here yesterday and loved their $4 menu. I ordered the taco salad and my husband ordered a double cheeseburger. Our order was fast, Alex was wonderful, and I'm back again today after walking a quarter mile in the rain while they get some metal out of my tire at discount tire. (Note, red robin, Mcdonalds, and Applebee's are right across the street, but I went a little further for good food at a better price than that fast food joint. Happy hour is weekdays from 2-4 (pm and am) for half off of drinks and shakes. With the type of food and service I've received the past couple times I've been here, I will be back. Thanks Alex and Johan.

I've had good service at MANY locations just not this one. Last visit was infuriating, followed by a call to the number on the receipt that said I'd get a call back in 24-48 hours. NOPE. Called the 800 number again - promised a call. NOPE. There are some good kids working here but I believe they have apathetic management. It flows down hill and ends here at this Steak N Shake.

The service was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Well, I guess that's a tad judgemental on my part, because, in their defense, THEY DID NOT GIVE ME ANY! The server was going to sit us at a table, but I asked if we can have a booth instead. A booth that is not by the window, as the sun was shinning so bright. There was an empty booth 3 steps away from the table she wanted to sit us on. She took the glasses plates of the booth and NEVER CAME BACK. After 15 minutes of waiting, I saw her greet another group of customers, sat them down and IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO WAIT ON THEM!! What the *bleep*, Stake n shake, What the *bleep*?

Geeat prices! Horrible service however. Waitress didn't even know certain items on the menu. Brought the wrong food multiple times and took 20 minutes to bring refills and certain items others at the table asked for. Food tastes good for the price. Go there all the time I just tend to ignore the bad service.

Open late. Friends and I ate here before watching the 3am showing of a movie. For my meal, I had the frisco melt. Was not very impressed with this sandwich. It's two hamburger patties with some sort of sour sauce in between them, served on sourdough bread. Had the mint cookies and cream shake. It was pretty tasty, but super filling. Could pretty much have just had this for dinner.

This place is good if you just don't feel like going home and need something to snack on while catching up with a friend. I've gotten a brownie sundae once, that was covered in caramel (which would be a good thing if the brownie wasn't drowning in it) and the brownie was nothing too exciting. It was actually kind of tasteless...again, I'm not sure if that was because it was swimming in caramel. The coffee was absolutely horrid. I probably should try and will be trying the shakes next time I check in...

I'll be honest, I have been to a few Steak N' Shakes and have never had GOOD service. I never go there expecting better service, or else it'd just ruin the trip again and again. I know it will be slow, and they might get a few things wrong, it may take a while to cash out, but I'll leave full and happy from the food that I love so much! However, last week my boyfriend and I went to this location that we have been to many times before. I had a birthday coupon I wanted to use before it expired. We had a show to get to and were in a bit of a hurry. Knowing how slow S&S always is, we planned ahead. We decided to sit at the bar where someone is usually on the register. We knew what we were going to order before we got there... we were ready to make the most of their bad service. We sat at the bar. Waited 5 minutes and nobody acknowledged up. Not a hi even from the girl on the grill. Another couple walked in, got sat, got drinks, so we decided to opt for a table. Obviously they don't serve the bar folk. As the 3 servers cleared tables, one finally acknowledged up standing to be sat. I let her know that we didn't need menus, we were ready to order. She sat us, said someone would be right with us, didn't even ask our drinks. Ok...whatever. Sat for another 5 minutes. Finally I had had enough. I was ready to walk out but I was not about to go to McDonalds and we didn't have time for somewhere else. Plus, this is unacceptable. I got up and put my head around the drink station wall where one server was standing talking to another who was playing on her phone. The girl who sat us was cashing customers out. I asked if we could please have a server. The guy talking yelled for the girl at the register to get us. When she finally came over she explained they're busy and she had to cash people out. Ok, well in my serving experience you greet a table before you clean one off, especially if they had been sitting around as long as we had. Ordered, got food quick, my burger came out wrong. I ate my fries and waited for us to be checked on to ask for what I was missing. She never came. I had no more fries to eat. I ate my burger as it was, mad my "free birthday burger" was not what I was looking forward to. Cashed out with our server at the register. I told her I was missing toppings. "Oh, I'm sorry" in as monotone "I don't care" as it gets. Manager had to override the coupon, she nor the server ever asked how things were, told us to have a good night, a happy birthday.... NOTHING!!!!!! I wonder how those kids survive on such crap pay and they can't be getting tipped well. Maybe they all live at home and don't need the money. Whatever the case, I will maybe return for take-out, but it will be a LONG time before I waste my time going in to eat.

When i go to steak and shake, i have two go to sandwiches: Triple steak burger with cheese and the spicy chicken sandwich, Both are excellent. Fries here are good, and shakes are good as well (just too thick for my consistent liking). The fact that they are open 24hrs is always a plus.

I visit this location with my family at least once per month and I've had many good experiences and a few bad ones as well. For this review I will critique each factor separately based on the dozens of visits which I have made to this location: Food- 4 stars- I've never had a problem with the food. Not once have I ever had to send food back. While the food is good, it's nothing you can't get some place else. Service- 1 star- We've been waited on by good servers before but they are few and far between. It takes a ridiculous amount of time to receive orders even when the restaurant is slow. We've been forgotten on many occasions. Prices-5 stars- I can always get a delicious meal here for less than most other fast food places. On weekdays, shakes are half-off during the early afternoon. In addition, I often receive coupons in the mail which reduces the price further. Cleanliness- 2 stars- On many occasions I've almost slipped on the greasy feeling floors. The meager bathroom is often gross. Atmosphere-3 stars- It is what it is. Steak N Shake isn't exactly known for its decor. Convenience- 4 stars- Being open 24-hours makes this place easily accessible. The drive-through is okay too.

I do have issue with their service though... the service can be lacking... and majority of my visits, I had experienced long delays in getting refills, our food orders taking long time to come out. However, this all depends on who you get... I had bad service on days when it wasn't even busy... I would have given three stars, but their service (lack of) took one star away... can the service improve please???

So this place can eat my ass... we had to order our milkshakes twice. TWICE!!!! Didn't even get the damn things until we were on our way out the door. Also the chili isn't chili. I'm not exactly sure what it was but chili it was not. Honestly I'm afraid to fart right now in fear that I'll shit myself. Most likely due to the fact that said chili consisted of three visible ingredients! The first being strange clumps of pink meat, way too many beans, and also the pool of grease that sat under my fries. I was naive upon entering the facility but a great lesson I've since learned. Smh at this place, I wanted a chicken sandwich but somehow ended up with a meat patty instead of chicken. I ate it regretfully... why not complain you may ask? Because I hate being that guy but I'm here to warn you all! If you ever find yourself knee deep in a bowl and wanting hungry howies and your girlfriends bitching about eating healthy again and somehow you end up on the conversation of wanting milkshakes, just stay home and get that pizza instead.

The ones in St Louis are so much better it is really no contest. I am a regular whenever I am down there to visit my sister and her family. This location will do in a pinch, especially good late at night when we go. I like an original (double cheese steakburger) and the thin crunchy fries with a chili deluxe as the other side. Deluxe is with onions and cheese, I also add oyster crackers of course! I also sometimes add a little drizzle of mustard shhh. Always tasty. The shakes are nice and I like that you can mix and match half and halfs. My nieces and nephew love it here in St Lou and seem very partial to the lime and orange freezes. My mother usually gets the chili five ways, which is kind of like a Cincinnati chili. Spaghetti, chili with special sauce, chili meat, onions and cheese. Not my thing. Not bad at all for fast food, actually pretty tasty, definitely fun and cravable. Join the e club and get a free double steakburger with cheese and a side of fries gratis for your birthday. Yay!

I used to adore Steak and Shake, but the last few times I've been there the service has been terrible. We stood in the doorway while employees walked by us without acknowledging our presence, our waiter never refilled our drinks, never came back to check on us after the food was delivered, and we had to go to the counter to retrieve our check. I ordered cottage cheese as an extra side, but when it arrived there were chunks of onion throughout and a straw wrapper in it. The manager never came over and they still attempted to charge us for the cottage cheese. I probably won't be back.

Me love Steak 'n Shake. The food is always good. The shakes are always good. Timely service is a hit-or-miss, but I've always somehow known to expect that from this kind of establishment.

Seems to be poor service most of the times we have been here. Burgers and fries are decent and the shakes are good. Please improve the service.....

Poor poor service at NIGHT

Like this place but sometimes it takes so long to get your drinks and food.

(2)Greta B.
LOVE!!!! Always hot, fresh and made to order. Extensive menu and often just what I want is there! The shakes and fries are the best! Mint chocolate cookie cream-YUM!!!
(4)Lisa J.

(4)B J.

(4)Allen L.
(1)Khanh C.
Worst service ever at this location. They don't even deserve a detailed complaint, that would help them be better, and why would you want to help a management team that sucks. Take your business right next door to Wendy's or Bread Basket.
(1)Grace S.
(1)Shelby W.
Geeat prices! Horrible service however. Waitress didn't even know certain items on the menu. Brought the wrong food multiple times and took 20 minutes to bring refills and certain items others at the table asked for. Food tastes good for the price. Go there all the time I just tend to ignore the bad service.
(3)Patrick T.
(2)Shirley H.

(1)Javier G.
Great prices. Slightly below average portions, but that's why it's so cheap. Tastes okay.
(3)Daron D.
When i go to steak and shake, i have two go to sandwiches: Triple steak burger with cheese and the spicy chicken sandwich, Both are excellent. Fries here are good, and shakes are good as well (just too thick for my consistent liking). The fact that they are open 24hrs is always a plus.
(3)Jeremy S.

Yay!

Worst service ever at this location. They don't even deserve a detailed complaint, that would help them be better, and why would you want to help a management team that sucks. Take your business right next door to Wendy's or Bread Basket.

Like this place but sometimes it takes so long to get your drinks and food.
