Used to eat there all the time. Good combo specials, close to campus... it was awesome until you take a closer look. I usually order by phone and then go in to pick up, but for some reason i went in to order. Why not!? First thing i noticed, no hair nets... From the cashiers counter you have full view of the kitchen and I watched as an employee came in from outside (probably smoking a cigarette or something), walked into the kitchen (not washing his hands) and proceeded to cook! No gloves, no utensils. Noooo just his hand, raw chicken and a wok. Yum. There were tons of dirty dishes everywhere. I think we all know I stopped eating there.

the last three times we've gone there the food has been terrible, not warm, not spicy, not tasty. We are done. trying

The food is overly greasy and generally bland, the employees are generally rude and short tempered. Would not recommend.

Online ordering a plus for me, fast delivery, spice level customized as requested, good value. I'd order delivery from them again.

I have eaten at the Lucky Garden three times in my life. This is your typical All-American Chinese restaurant that serves food to local customers. While I have had better, most of the students from EMU enjoy eating at this establishment as an escape from the typical fare that is served on campus. Likewise, you can't beat their prices when it comes to delivery. The chefs and owners at the Lucky Garden, are from southeast of China in Fujian Province. For those us Americans who grew up on Cantonese food, your taste buds will immediately recognize the difference. The taste of the food is more bold and spicy, but not like what you would find at a Schezuan style Chinese restaurant, which serves very hot dishes that can burn your mouth out. Unlike a few friends of mine who have gotten sick from eating the food at the Lucky Garden, I never had a problem here. I will say that the place was very clean the last time I ate here. However, I just don't care for the way the food is prepared.

I was looking for a digestible meal that would appear at my front door with minimal thinking on my part, and that's just what I got. I ordered the orange-flavored chicken combo, which came with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The guy on the phone was an affable surfer dude type (on the shores of the Huron River?) who asked all the right questions and told me up front that it would be 45 minutes. "Is that going to be cool?" Sure, but I appreciate him asking as it could be a dealbreaker. The driver arrived 40 minutes later. The fried rice was totally bland. It looked good, with lots of veggies and sizable pork chunks, but it really didn't taste like anything, not even salt. The egg roll shell was a super crispy fried delight, but the inside was of the same caliber as the rice. The chicken was good. It was a very big portion. The chicken was well fried and drowning in a sweet sauce that could have easily been General Tso's or sesame or whatever if not for the occasional bits of orange rind. The next day, I shared some of my leftovers with my boss who said, "That was good. Doesn't taste like orange, but it's good". My very sentiments. For me, 3 stars usually means I won't bother again. But I haven't found 4 star Chinese in Ypsi (would have once given that rating to Hidden Dragon, but the quality definitely took a nosedive). Considering that Lucky Garden only charged me a buck for delivery, I may order it again when I have a too-tired-to-think-about-food kind of appetite.

Nothing that stellar, your typical "American" "Chinese" restaurant, but when it comes to an inexpensive hot lunch in wins over the EMU Student Center anytime! I usually go for lunch and the portions are huge not to mention it is served fast. If you try this place out don't expect too much, but if you are looking for a change from campus food and want a restaurant within walking distance of campus this might just be good enough.

I haven't had a good experience with Chinese food in quite some time, but I decided to check out Lucky Garden - knowing full-well what I was getting myself into - because I'm tired of the lack of dining options in the building I work in. Anyways, I hit up the lunch menu, which was decently priced at $4.50 per dish, and had the General Tso's chicken - it came with a fairly large side of fried rice and a choice of soup; I had the wonton. I was pleased with the ratio of wontons to broth, but the broth was a little heavier than I would have liked. The pork fried rice left something to desire, and the chicken wasn't nearly spicy enough compared to what I'm used. All things considered, Lucky Garden is a good place to have lunch if you're in the area and craving OK Chinese food, but it's nothing to write home about.

They mistook my order (I ordered a small dish and they made me a large) - when I clarified that I had ordered a small, they told me they had already made a large, then a pause.... Ok, what? You want me to pay for it cuz you made a mistake?! I actually had to argue with her and the cook (um, hello, I wanted a small, I ordered a small, I'm not paying for a large, I don't care if you already made it, give me half, whatever, I'm only paying for a small) - Lord knows why I didn't just walk out of there... oh yeah, and the food was not good. I imagine the only reason they are still in business is cuz they are right across the street from EMU and lots of student housing and the mostly white patrons don't realize what crappy chinese food they're getting anyway. Sorry, it's true.

Carry out is the way to go here, eating in is in sanitary and delivery takes an hour and a half, but it's good food, If you're going to eat here, carry out is the way to go!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
