Alright, so let's get this straight: this place is a Coney Island. Known for being a Detroit area staple, a no fuss diner that serves cheap and greasy eats, Leo's lives up to the standard. Is the service superb? No, mostly it is hit or miss. Do I always get food that hits the spot, is well-priced, and stacked so high there is no way I could ever eat it all? YES! Leo's is conveniently located for those of us who live in the area (as well as being easily accesbile from I-94) and it is always pretty packed, which proves that it is an awesome restaurant to have in the area. The only thing that is questionable is the service; I've been here and had wonderful service but I have also been here and felt kind of neglected. But, let's be honest: as long as I get my food I'm not complaining, it is a Coney Island after all and I know not to expect the high-level of service I would expect at a fine-dining restaurant. Overall the staff is really friendly and if you go often they become even more cordial; my dad comes here so often for carrot cake (his guilty pleasure) that the owner has often given him carrot cake for free when we dine-in. I will definitely continue my frequent visits to Leo's and if you are ever nearby, I encourage you to stop by as well!

This place is a solid Leo's Coney Island, very decent and yet nothing spectacular. As others have mentioned, service is hit or miss. I'm either getting smiled at with refills on my drinks or I'm being completely ignored. The saving grace about this place is the value of your A-ok meal. Cheap, therefore very good for the cost-minded student patron. I like their $1 coneys on Tuesdays and french toast is always good. However, some of their sandwich items taste like a low-rent version of something you'd get at a Wendy's. Their chicken sandwich could use a little revamping here, for instance. And their omelets are interesting. (For the best Coney omelets, head over to L. George on Michigan Ave. in Canton; wow those omelets are fantastic.) One gem I found on the menu that isn't french toast or eggs or a hot dog is their Cobb salad. Wow, that's a great salad. I paid more at the Au Bon Pain on campus for something not as wonderful as the Cobb here. Big bacon bits, yummy clumps of blue cheese and real grilled chicken in a spring mix. I always get dressing on the side. It was surprisingly nice.

Had the corned beef omelette...it was a joke, their wasn't any corned beef in it...just cheese and it was the most expensive omelette on the menu...the one star is for the lemon rice, i put photos up of the sorry omelette they gave me...won't ever be back

Great local spot! Our go to place for a quick nosh. Consistent, great, and fresh food! Don't let me start on the awesome servers! Leo's takes great pride in hiring naturally friendly people. I'll keep coming back!

You know what you are going to get when you come here. The waitstaff looks a little scary, but the food is pretty consistent. I wish that they made the flaming cheese at the table like other coney islands. I had hair in my food once, first time in 10 years...they made me a new salad but I was too grossed out to eat it. I'll be back, it's reasonably priced and close to home.

I'm usually okay with new waitstaff but it seems Leo's doesn't bother training their staff at all. They messed up my gyro dinner order (confirmed when I called Belleville and asked what comprises the dinner versus the sandwich combo), lied about it, and didn't want to remove the unwanted parts of the dinner. Had been there before, figured this would be a good regular place. Perhaps if I'd been there with Karry C' above I might have experienced the same as her where " If you don't like your food, they'll gladly replace it. . " All I got was denials and 'we can't do anything about it'. Will not be back.

Good customer service after being sat ourselves... As far as cleanliness goes it could use some work, decently mildly filthy restrooms... Soap dispensers broken off the wall, not that appealing. Thanks for the mediocre food after hash bash!

They have everything you can imagine here. I had a coney dog with spicy ground beef. Good but not very memorable.

Patty melt was tastey, but my mozzarella sticks were under cooked. Fries could have been cooked longer too.

I always order take out from Leo's. You can get some pretty good grilled chicken dishes here like the sandwich or gyro. Cobb salad if great!

My husband and I get breakfast to-go from here almost every weekend. It's too delicious and reasonably priced to stay away!

Always great deals on food. Breakfast and lunch is always great food and service. I would recommend the breakfast specials before 11am. For lunch I love the chicken kabob and chicken lemon rice soup.

I was supposed to go on a 2 mile run at 7 am but the weather was rainy and windy and my cousin (my unofficial running coach) didn't want me to go out since it was the day before the race, so he took me here instead. He wanted me to experience a Michigan institution even though it was like Denny's. I got a the #1 breakfast special: Scrambled eggs, 4 sausage links with hash browns and half a stack of pancakes, which were huge. I managed to eat them all including coffee and orange juice. Yes, I was hungry. Not the best food, but it was just okay if you want a cheap breakfast.

The food here meets the standard Leos quality. Well prepared, fast. If you go on a weekend, the service is great. However, we often go on weeknights when both of us worked and there's nothing in the fridge. On those nights, the staff is sometimes abysmal. If you go, try the lemon-rice soup. Very good!

Leo's is one of my favorite diners in the area. The wait staff is almost always attentive, kind, and fast. Occasionally, when super slammed, service slips a bit, but that can be expected of any restaurant. The thing that keeps me coming back though is the Eggplant Parmesan. It's only less than $7, and the absolute best in the area. I have gone to countless Italian restaurants in the area, and neither the price nor the taste is nearly as good. Why would I pay $14 dollars for a small, mediocre serving of Eggplant Parm when I can get a huge, delicious serving right down the road from my house?! The eggplant is always crispy, without being greasy, served with spaghetti and garlic bread, and topped with their meat sauce, which is TERRIFIC, (although plain marinara is also available). Next time you're there, check out their specials menu. The pictures are a little scary, but everything I've ever had from them was delicious.

This place is right down the road from us and we go here whenever we don't want to cook & I absolutely love it! There have been 3 Coney Islands on Whittaker Rd and I'm glad to say 2 have closed because this place takes number one as it's probably the best in the area. I usually get their fish, coney dogs, fries, & salad and they're all delicious. The salads are my absolute favorite because of how much stuff is in there such as the chick peas, feta cheese, beats, olives, peppers and the dressing is super good too. The service is always wonderful as well. I've always talked to the manager on why they are still the only Coney Island in business on that road and apparently their food is very fresh. Most other Coney Islands keep their hot dogs around for a few days, but this place uses FRESH hot dogs daily and doesn't keep them around for more than a day.

I've been to many of the Leo's restaurants in the area, and I think this one might just be my favorite. The restaurant itself is very clean & bright - nice decor, several nice TV's, etc. Love the Coney's: dogs are good, buns were fresh, only complaint (if you can call it that) is that they put too much sauce on. Hard to pick up and eat without wearing it, ended up eating with a knife and fork. Service was superb. Also had the Lemon-Rice soup - amazing. Cannot wait to go back and try more items on the menu - the greek selections look (and smelled) amazing, but I am a coney guy, so had to go there first.

Busy all day Saturday. Feels like a whole team is taking care of you. Friendly. Seat yourself. Pay @ the cash register.

This place is great when you don't know what to make for lunch or dinner and you're starving. It's a quick drive, the food is ready pretty fast and the prices are reasonable. Sometimes the service isn't all that great but that's pretty common these days. A few times when I got carry out I got the wrong soup or my salad dressing was missing, so I recommend checking your food before taking it home if you get carry out.

Ah, Michiganders, how you love your Coney Island restaurants. A Coney Island should be a unique greasy spoon diner, but Leo's has the gall to take it corporate and make it a chain. It's just not right. Despite that not-rightness, I did enjoy my recent visit to the Leo's in Ypsilanti. You wouldn't necessarily know the diner is there, because it's set back off Whittaker Road in a strip mall on a small side street. I had been exploring all the new businesses that have recently cropped up in this general area and decided to check Leo's out. One major positive that probably has something to do with it being part of a small local chain: Leo's is clean and bright. Some diners are on the dark and scroungy side, and that can have its charms. But sometimes you just want to bring your parents or the kids you're babysitting somewhere clean and not too expensive, and Leo's would fit the bill. Another positive was that the food was good and the price was right. My husband ordered the spinach pie, and I think it must have been the thickest, tallest spinach pie I've ever seen, easily four inches tall and stuffed with spinach and feta cheese. It was so huge that even after I helped out by taking a few bites, he ended up taking part of it home in a doggie bag. I had the vegetarian pita, which was like being served a Greek salad in a soft, warm pita. It had the feta cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickled beets that are typical of Greek salads in Michigan. The tzadziki sauce that came on it was really good. If I want a big, filling breakfast without driving too far, or if I'm longing for some saganaki or a good Greek salad sometime, I'm likely to head back to Leo's.

Leos may be a chain, but each location can be made unique by it's owner and staff. That's the case here. This Leos is very kid friendly with candy and kitchy toys available for them to pick from after their meal. The food is typical coney island, but they do it well. The coney dogs are tasty. The chili fries could have been a little crisper under the chili, but were still good. The Greek salad is made from fresh ingredients and a flavorful dressing. Finally the breakfasts are wonderful and don't leave you hungry. The chicken lemon rice soup is a huge hit with one of my sons. He gets it every time. If you're looking for good food at a good price you should check out Leos.

There should be a law against using the name Coney Island in your business if you suck. I can only guess that people who favorably review this place (and all the Leo's I've been to frankly) haven't had a decent breakfast in so long they've forgotten what one tastes like. My biggest issue with this, and most breakfast joints, is their inability to cook an egg properly. No matter how a person orders, even sunny side up, the white should never be raw at all. Period. Furthermore, the white should not be brown and crusty. Your grills are too hot for properly cooked eggs. Another issue I have is pricing. $5 for a kids meal, really?? $7 for pancakes and bacon?? What? Not for raw eggs, flat pancakes, untoasted toast soaked soggy by butter sauce and a drink in a dirty cup. Leo's needs to raise their standards and so do consumers. If you want a perfectly cooked breakfast for a great price go to Mark's on State, or visit Beezy's where the same amount of money gets you a tasty, quality breakfast complete with good service.
