This establishment is an abomination, the food here is crap. I find it amazing that this place is is still open, what's more impressive is some of the high yelp ratings it has received. The chicken is served from a mystical silver box, and based on the texture I believe it to be some type of military death oven used to vaporize biological substances. The mashed potatoes have a distinct instant potato taste. These are your typical boxed spuds, and judging by the stale flavor they are most likely surplus from the Pakistani space program. The coleslaw has to be a hand me downs from a low quality food supplier. The biscuits are from a can, the weird textured ones that peel off in layers. All the food here falls somewhere between not fresh and not good. What else is there, oh the soft drinks are tasty.

This place is absolutely amazing!!! I ordered two buckets of seasoned boneless wings. The even better part was the man who delivered this fine feast to me, he was of Asian background, but looked like Brad Pitt. All in all the best chicken wings I've ever eaten.

First off, they have the best fried gizzards and livers in the state. The gizzards are so fluffy with soooo much breadings and the livers are cooke to perfection with just the right amount of spice and crunchiness. Their chickens are pretty good. Nothing exotic, just good old fashioned chicken. It's available in regular and crispy. They say the crispy is spicy but it's more of a weak cajun. Have yet to try their hoagies but maybe next time....

Great hoagie -- juicy, cheesy, well-seasoned meat. Space looks halfway between a small diner and a family living room. Little quirky cross-stitch hangings and yellow-tile floors. Not much at first glance, but look closely and it is unique and comfortable. Solid place for a quick lunch stop or break on a long day.

In an area full of quality chicken places, family's is the best in the city of ypsilanti. Now in the grand scheme of chicken places, its in the middle (i know of ten better in the city of Detroit alone) but whatever. Now there okra to me is the second best okra i have ever had (church's is one) and their spicy chicken taste similar to that of popeyes (which is good to me) and their fried rice is the best in the area. Now i guess of the cons would be that they don't offer a lot of sides and they tend to run out of spicy chicken (the original is not bad, but the spicy is the best). So if your in ypsilanti and your looking for some good chicken, family is the best in the area.

I trusted the reviews on Yelp and gave this place a try. BAD IDEA. I would seriously take FKC over this place! Although the woman was really really nice, it didn't compensate for how gross the food was When you bite into the chicken, a lot of grease squirts out, as if I was biting into a chicken kiev. It wasn't that crunchy I liked how they had a spicy chicken option, but it wasn't even all that spicy. I still had to pour hot sauce on it. The mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits and even coleslaw was definitely store bought (very similar to cafeteria food) Never coming back again

Sometimes I get a serious Jones for Family's Fried Chicken. It's hard to drive by when the smell of fried chicken is in the air. It's a really small restaurant and doesn't have seating for more than about four people, so it's best to just order something for take out. I usually get a couple of pieces of chicken and an order of fries, but the food is so heavenly it's hard to do it justice in print. I'd recommend ordering the two-piece or three-piece meal, which comes with mashed potatoes, cole slaw and biscuits. The biscuits are great. If you ever happen to be in the area, make sure you give Family's Fried Chicken a try. It's at the corner of Congress and Michigan Ave., a block west of Abe's Coney Island, and roughly across the street from the courthouse and police station.

Fair. The Restaurant is tiny, basically a counter to order from and a few chairs to sit in while you wait for it. Family's is like Kentucky Fried Chicken before it became KFC; the food is very standard American fried chicken. It probably wouldn't have stayed open if it weren't directly across from the police station and courthouse, but at least you feel safe parking your car here while you run in. And it's pretty cheap. Like Clarence C. said, get something to go.

Great tasting chicken. Reasonable prices. Can't ask for much else. I do wish the gizzards and the livers were a but crispier on the outside.
