This place is a regular go to for my fiancé and I, mainly because you know what you're gonna get, greasy but tasty food. I think they are best known for their Hippy Hash, which is hash browns with veggies, meat of choice, cheese, and eggs. It's never too busy (even post-bar hours) usually fairly quiet and the staff is pretty nice. I wouldn't go here 2-5 times a month if it wasn't worth it. P.S. Very well priced as well.

This place has atmosphere, I know there are some reviews that poo-poo this or that about Abe's but I've been here a few time and had a memorable experience. Got the Gyros this morning while driving by, pulled in and grabbed 2 for lunch. Was not disappointed with both the food and the price ~6 bucks. I'm going to give this a try for breakfast, however enjoyed it for lunch runs. It is a bit grimy and has that 'hole in the wall' atmosphere that every city needs. Try it.

I like Abe's and as the Terminator would say, "I'll Be Baaaack." This place serves it purpose. It fills you up when you need some food in your belly. Love the prices, adore the Gyro and chili fries. Breakfast is always solid. The hash browns are solid. Some places screw that up, this place gets it right. I love the old school fraternity/sorority paddles hanging up. It makes me feel comfy. The scary people outside freak me out, cause it's a semi-bad neighborhood, but the bright lighting and decor brings me to a happy place when I eat. I am not surprised Bill Clinton ate here. The place could be grimey at times. But I'm a fan of Billy C, and food wise, he picked a good place. Nothing great, but definitely not bad. It's a place that hits the spot and I like it!

Abe's is the SHIT, man. Literally my favorite Coney Island restaurant ever. No bull fuckin shit this is the spot and it's open to customers on a twenty-four hour round-the-clock basis. We used to put back a few 40s and a couple of ROACHES before heading into Abe's for some chocolate chip FUCK cakes. Those days are long over, though... I mean, uh... I used to know some OTHER people who did that...

Abe's is a classic. If you've lived in Ypsi, or even just on the east side of Ann Arbor, you've been to Abe's, probably at 2:30am or so. The food, as previously stated, is just typical coney fare. I don't think I'd want to see most of it sober. The interior is also pretty rough looking, but so am I by the time I've left the bar, so we get along okay. The thing that struck me as odd was that it doesn't have a strong neighborhood feel to it like a lot of seedy little places. Instead, everyone seems to mind their own business and not make a lot of eye contact. But it works out and I leave full, so that's not really a complaint.

I've always loved this place. We used to live close by and came up here like four times a week. Now we moved away and still make a point to come out a few times a year. The service is generally great. The wait staff is fun. And the late night cook is fantastic. I wish we were closer so we could still frequent here.

As far as the coneys go, they are your regular run of the mill coney, nothing special. I come here primarily for the 24 hour breakfast. The early-bird special is just an absolutely ridiculous amount of food that would probably give you a heart attack if you had it more than once a week. This is a definite compliment, just how breakfast should be. A mix of eggs, hash browns, choice of two meats (double bacon!), biscuits and gravy that should take you two sittings to eat. Not the greatest part of Ypsi (especially at 3AM), but if you want to grab some breakfast between classes at the COB, this place is great.

This is decent diner food from a decent diner. One of the best diner breakfasts around. Hippie Hash=happiness. The coffee leaves a lot to be desired, but the food makes up for it.

In addition to Ypsi/ Ann Arbor having some of the worst drivers (35 in a 45? comon! and pulling into the left hand turn lane when the ambulance is coming up the rear view mirror) the region also take the prize for some of the worst coney islands. Sorry gang. Abes is filthy dirty all of the time and is in dire need of remodelling. The waitress service sucks all of the time and every time I have been in there. The owner just sits there smoking cigarettes and chatting with depressed people like he is buying time. The place is a hole.

I've been coming to Abe's since before I can remember; I have very fond memories of coming here as a child, with my dad, to have breakfast on the weekends. I remember when President Clinton came to visit Ypsilanti he stopped by Abe's and it was the talk of the town! Since those days, though, I think Abe's has lost a little bit of its charm. It is a bit run down (which I think they are working on), it has attracted a bit of a different crowd, and, sadly, I just don't think the food is quite what it used to be. I came in here recently with a group of friends and we all ordered the chili cheese fries...and they were GROSS! I was so disappointed. I am hoping, based on other reviews, that their staples, breakfast food and gyros, are still everything they used to be. I definitely think Abe's is an Ypsilanti staple and, if you're in the area, it is still worth a stop by for some greasy spoon goodness! It is your average neighborhood diner that will stand the test of time. It is what it is, take it with a grain of salt. Those of us from the Ypsi area know, and appreciate, Abe's for being just what it is, and nothing more.

I think being drunk may help here. I unfortunately was not drunk when I swung by, nor was it particularly late. I was shocked how grimy this place was, now I am not hugely sensitive to this but my husband is. The atmosphere here is really quite depressing as well. He gave me the eye and I prayed the food would make up for it. It didn't. The gyros are not top notch. When you mess up a gyro its bad in my book. Just dried out and not tasty all the way around. The fries were meh. The husband ate some breakfast and seemed rather unimpressed overall. Plenty of food for him just nothing special. Certainly nothing to make up for the odd feeling experience of dining in during the day. I'd skip it unless you are inebriated.

ZERO STARS. Ordered a burger on rye bread instead of bun, my friends ordered all breakfast food. It was edible and no one got sick, which really surprised me based off the grime,dirt, ripped up seating and flooded bathroom. The waitress SUCKED. She had no idea what she was doing... even forgot one of 5 person group's food.. not happy or friendly... disheveled in every way. AVOID THIS PLACE.

I went to Abes today for a quick bite with a friend who's a huge fan. I had heard alot of mixed reviews about Abes and was excited to try it out. I got the 2.99 Gyro with grilled onions, YUM! A tad greasy but was really good. It is important to keep in mind this is a Coney, in the middle of ypsi. Considering that, this is a must stop again. Thanks for taking me Toby!

Abe's is a cornerstone of Ypsilanti. A true Coney Island and greasy spoon. Before you look for some fancy pants breakfast place in the Y, you don't even have to eat inside but enjoy some Abe's take out. The only downfall is the shootings, but just never mind I said that.

Abe's is perfect for what it is. You don't go to Abe's for the fine dining, you don't go for the impeccable wine list, you go there because you want greasy coney food in a greasy (but not grody) coney joint. Abe's is open 24 hours, and is at its most crowded just after 2am when the nearby bars empty. The mix of college kids and locals can be either amusing or irritating at this hour. Consider yourself warned. The waitresses at Abe's aren't sugar sweet, but they'll get you your food fast. Abe's also gets bonus points in my book for recently adding "hippie hash" to their menu. This diner delicacy, originated at the Fleetwood in Ann Arbor,involves hash browns, feta cheese, broccoli, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. For a coney island, they have a pretty extensive menu, even vegetarians have multiple options. Cheap, quick, greasy, tasty. It's a coney, what more do you want?

Abe's is special; I don't know why you would eat here when beezy's is just up the street, but beezy's isn't open at 2am. The most interesting people will magically appear when the bars close - and! Did you know Gyros are $2.99 all month long? Forever!

Abe's is still a hop, skip, and a jump away from where I live. Three years later, still huddling in small packs of friends (more often sober than not) as we trek to the 24-7 Coney Island on the crossroads of Michigan Ave and Washtenaw. Lets clear up one thing first before you continue to entertain the idea of dining here. This is a Coney Island in the middle of Ypsilanti - both of which have seen better days. The building itself is not quaint or cute like some of the other shops closer to A2. It's old; graffiti-d, a little grimy, and the booth seats have duct tape to hold some parts together. They don't hire the top chefs in the county, in fact, the chefs rotate based on the day and time you arrive. Your experience here may never be the same twice. You have your career waitresses, and you can nail down their schedules pretty well - but you will get your occasional college student in there too. The career women are superb. The passing through working students can be less than stellar. They don't have the experience or drive that some of the careers do. You can tell the difference. Can you pick and choose which you get? Nope. But there is a difference in service between your veterans and noobies. This is a place you go for cheap eats with a decent sized portion of food. You're not going here because your palate needs something fantastic to jolt your sleep-deprived taste buds awake after a 7-hour overnight cram session. The eggs they whip up for you in the kitchen is about as fantastic as the ones you could force yourself to make in your too-small kitchen on your too-small 70's stove you're most likely renting. The salads are usually a little too watery. Same with their ranch dressing, definitely thinned to make it last. A glass of pop is over $2 like every other place downtown, so stick with the ice water unless you're going to get a few refills. The coffee is probably Maxwell house and is usually too watery, but is made bearable with lots of sugar and cream. If that is acceptable, take it, otherwise trek over a couple blocks to B-24's (formerly Bombadils) or mosey towards Déjà vu for Beezy's (between 7-4PM M-Sat) if you want quality brewed coffee or espresso. Otherwise, everything Abe's Coney Island is exactly what you would expect from the moment you lay eyes on its garish turquoise overhang to the second you seat yourself at the patched up booths. You're going to get your regulars here of downtowners, truckers, trailer parkers, students, hookers, professors, hobos, professionals, construction workers and on and on of all walks of life filtering in and out of here. There is no one set group - it fluctuates and changes. Decent, cheap food in downtown Ypsilanti? This isn't a bad choice to throw on the table.

Besides being the official Ypsilanti eatery, Abe's has a good hamburger and better breakfast, which of course you can order any time of the day. I like that it's open 24 hours, and that you find all types of people there at all times of the day. Neo-hippies, bikers, yuppies, great-grandparents, whatever. The decor is a little worn, so not a good place for a date. The last time I was there, I noticed that a lot of the seats are worn to the point that the somebody-sat-here depression is now permanent.

Best Coney Island in the area! Being from Detroit, it's not the best coney, but it's the best you can get in this area. I drive from Ann Arbor for this, so it's a good place and great late night snack!
