Performed a Google search for the best Italian beef sandwich in the GR area and the Windy City Grill popped up. So, my son and I decided to head over and see if that was indeed the case. I'm happy to say that WCG did not disappoint. Both my son and I went with the Italian beef, wet, with the hot giardiniere. I don't know how to describe it other than it was FANTASTIC! The bread was plump and super soft, the beef cooked to perfection, and just the right amount of cheese and toppings. Although my son said he wasn't very hungry, he plowed through half of the sandwich within minutes, then took the rest of it home and finished an hour later - a testament to a great sandwich. After going back and having another Italian beef sandwich (this time I went for the "dry" version), I've updated this rating from 4 to 5 stars. I initially thought the price was a little steep, but after having another great meal, I think it's earned it. Looking forward to going back and trying the steak and cheese next time!

Other than some cheesy photos on the wall of Chicago landmarks and sports, and the expensive food, this place has nothing in common with the greatest city in the Midwest. Plus, a Green Bay Packers oversized helmet was in an adjoining room. Never, ever in Chicago would you find this aberration. The woman taking orders was clueless and nowhere near a hospitable restaurant greeter you would meet in Chitown. The menu was limited and didn't represent Chicago diverse food choices. The gyro was mediocre. Save the $25 I dropped for 2/people and go to a real Chicago restaurant.

This place is an absolute must-go. I have been eating at Windy City since it opened and it is one of my all time favorite restaurants. The restaurant is a great environment and the owner and staff are always friendly and welcoming. As for the food, I've never been been disappointed with anything I've gotten- from gyros to subs you can never go wrong. Enjoy!!!

If you like Chicago style food, this is the place to go. The Italian beef sandwich was a great blend of flavors. Very nice staff and clean.

Thought I'd try again and hopefully have a better experience.....and I did not. Sandwich said "thinly sliced meat" and it was thick and uncut- fries were tasteless concession stand quality. Never again.

Great little place in a strip mall near m-6 and new hospitals. We sometimes get this food at the office for meetings, working lunches, etc. So I knew that several gyro-style sandwiches were very good, even out of a box at work. As for this facet, it works well because everyone can order what they want off the fairly simple menu of mostly sandwiches under $10. Love the gyros with feta cheese - nice touch. Had the French dip last time (at office) enjoyed very much. This time had very nice chicken stir fry wrap (in a pita, not a tortilla). Tasty - Don't know what else to say. If chicken stir fry in a pita sounds good for lunch - you'll like it. I did. Order placed at register (taken by hands-on owner) food brought out by same guy. Condiments, extra feta (for guy that said "no" to it at counter, but found it to be a great addition to the normal meat and no cheese variety), and a pickle spear that was missing from one basket were brought right out. This is a pet peeve of mine. Can't stand waiting for essentials while the food is chillin'. Sandwiches may be a little pricy to some, but you cheapies will rejoice when you find that's it's ok to slip out of the joint without leaving a tip. Our group did leave one, however as thanks for taking good care of us.

Stir fry pita is great. Fries aren't worth it. Cheap and relatively quick.

Love going here for lunch. Gyro with feta is a guilty pleasure. The staff here is the difference though. Always the best friendly service.

This is the best Italian beef sandwich anywhere. That's right, Chicago, I said anywhere. Get it wet!

Italian beef sandwiches dipped are awesome! Greek salads are good and taste fresh. Great for families with kids. Owner is very nice and approachable. Wish they had a bar and liquor license. Parking sometimes can be an issue.

This was easily the worst meal I've paid for in a long time. Everything is prepackaged and frozen (from Gordon foods). This Italian beef is nothing like a quality beef from Chicago. The bread is stale and flavorless. It was very expensive, a beef with low quality lays potato chips was 8.99. We fed our family of 4 for almost 40 dollars. I could spend that at a real sit down restaurant. I would not be back, I like to eat quality fresh made meals for that price, I can make frozen food myself for a lot cheaper.

Excellent food, clean building, and very nice employees! Prices are a little high but still worth it. I recommend the Chicken Feta Pita or the Chicken Club, but everything else I have had has been good. I do recommend if you get fries to pay extra for the curly fries they are much better then the regular. They are also a GFS customer which is a good feeling supporting two local family owned businesses.

Excellent food and great service. Portions are large and everything is fresh and hot. Could use more dining space.

Very good gyros. The pitas are very good but not quite big enough to hold everything, so it can be a bit messy. Toppings are pretty simplistic but portions generous. Fries are decent.

I have a confession to make: Up until this review, I have never had a Chicago style hot dog. It's part of the reason I decide to review Windy City Grille, because they claim to have authentic Chicago dogs and I want--nay, need--to fill this gap in my foodie logbook. The restaurant is tucked into a strip mall with many others. It's kind of a wonder that they would be able to make it with so much competition around! Inside, it's clean and simple with sturdy furniture clearly catering to the quick deli lunch crowd. Photos and maps of Chicago line the walls. Top 40 plays on the loudspeaker. There are only two other tables occupied. We head to the counter, where a nice gentleman points out what is popular, what is good. But I only have eyes for the Chicago Style Vienna Beef Hot Dog. He gives us cups for self-serve fountain drinks and says he'll bring out the food in a couple minutes. We choose a table in the center of the dining room to wait. A few minutes later, a woman comes out of the back and starts to sweep the floor. She notices we have no paper napkins, and brings us a stack. She seems nice and I begin to wonder if we should tip. It's a little awkward, ordering at the counter and getting our own sodas, but then having them bring us the food and napkins. In the end, we do not leave a tip. A short time later, here come the two hot dogs I ordered! They look delicious, topped with all the authentic ingredients. Clustered at one end of the basket are crispy french fries. Time to dig in. My first bite of a hot dog is glorious. I get mustard, onions and the neon-green relish with just a nibble of beef. My second bite I get everything, including the spicy peppers, tomato, and dill pickle. I don't even notice the celery salt or the poppy seed bun. Everything is fresh and crisp...but, the hot dog is slightly disappointing because it is so small. Nestled at the bottom of the bun, it is difficult to get a bite of beef along with everything else all at once. I really have to work at it. The fries are pretty good. Crispy, not too greasy, but rather plain. I smother them in ketchup and polish off about half. Portions are generous, though taste is nothing too out of the ordinary. That sums of the experience as a whole: friendly, laid-back deli atmosphere with solid lunch fare that encourages you to eat quickly. Given Juliet's experience with her gyro, I would like to head back to try some other Greek dishes. Don't take my word for it, though. Check out what my better half has to say (with video) on our site, linked in my profile.

Windy City is legit. Their Gyro's are top notch. They have become a fairly regular stop for myself. Only complaint is they close at 8 and are closed on Sunday. Highly recommended.

This was pretty good. I had a small Gyros and my husband had the Italian beef -- both were delicious. Gyros in the US is nothing like what I had in Crete or in European countries like Germany or the Netherlands, it was still tasty. The veggies on the Italian beef were nice and tangy - but not too sour. The dip came separately and as someone else said, prevents nasty "soak-through". It came on a toasty piece of baguette which stayed crunchy and only picked up the right amount of moisture through the dip. It was big, two pieces - 5 inches each - with plenty of beef and Giardiniera

Friendly and family owned. Great gyros. You get a lot of food and they are not stingy with their french fries.

My wife suggested we try out the place - and we were both very pleased. At first I was a little surprised at the prices for such a bare-bones, no frills kind of eatery, but the portions were ample and well worth the price. We each took half our food home for lunch the next day. I got the french dip - and I have to say it was one of the best french dips I've had. The bread was fresh and soft, but toasted just enough to give some structure to the sandwich. I hate it when french dip is too hard to enjoy or to soft to hold on to. That didn't happen here. The fries were good, too. The decor is simple, with lots of interesting pictures from old Chicago. We will definitely go back. The big test will be if we take some friends there who are originally from Chicago. I'd be interested in getting their assessment on the authenticity - although I know they'll love the food regardless.

I ate at the Windy City Grille today for lunch. I had the Italian beef sandwich. It was well constructed with ample amounts of meat cheese and Jardiniere on each half. The bead was excellent, crunchy exterior and nice and soft at the core. The dip was flavorful and served warm on the side. The girl says you can also have the sandwich dipped. When I stopped in the place was empty which surprised me a little. There was a friendly and attentive service person sweeping the floor. She greeted me with a big smile and hello. The place was spotless. I am so glad to see that some people still maintain high standards. It doesn't coast a penny to work clean. My three star rating is due to the fact the prices are a tad high at $9.00 for 8in of sandwich an a handful of chips.

Was hoping for a quick Chicago hot dog or two for lunch the other day. $5.49 special was 1 dog, fries and a soft drink, not too bad, lady asked me if I wanted a second dog. I said yes, but wish I would have known it was $3 for the 2nd dog. So my quick hot dog lunch turned into a $9 meal pretty quickly. The dog was good, I'm wondering if I can get a grilled hot dog anymore other than in my backyard? Fries were a heaping pile which is rare these days so kudos for that. They were fresh too. They classify themselves more of a Greek place but have the Chicago staples other than pizza. It was quick, if I didn't think with my belly would have been a normal affordable lunch & the service was very helpful and friendly. Give it a shot for a quick sandwich.

The Windy City is ok. I think it is important for them to rethink their pita bread. What they are using now is all to familiar and a product borders on the boring and can be bought at your local Walmart or Gordon foods service. They should look for a more unique alternative or make their own. Else, it all really is a bit pointless in my opinion. Owners should go visit places who make their own or at least sell something a bit better than this. I felt like I visited a local bread thrift shop. I visit these places, or don't, for experiences in food. Not experiences that are common to my local grocery store.

One of the best places to eat in Wyoming. Great Chicago Style food. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Owner is great at what he does and the food is amazing. They have these new Lomonaco Sicilian Cookies that are to die for also. Highly Recommend eating here

The restaurant is tucked on the back-lot of the Bayberry Market strip mall , behind the Jimmy Johns, on Byron Center in Wyoming. Its a little difficult to see from the road considering the developer decided to build more buildings directly in front of the main mall. The restaurant is pretty small and a little plain in side. It could use a little decorating but it was extremely clean which is a plus. The menu is a little strange. It includes the typical Chicago dogs and sandwiches but it also include gyros, pitas, hummus, and felafels. A little weird but its defiantly different which can be (and was) a good thing. I had the gyro meal which included fries and a drink. The food came out about 5 min. after ordering. The gyro was HUGE. It was flavored very well and was really good. The fries were just ok, nothing special. If you are looking for something a little different food wise, check them out. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
