we entered the restaurant I took a quick whiff of the air inside and it smelled better so I said ok this restaurant is improving we ordered our food the service is really good we got our food it was amazing everything was really good until I look to the corner of my booth at the empty space and I see ANTS atleast 5 there!!!! And for a sec I thought this restaurant still needs more cleaning. would not recommend to eat here if you hate a uncleansed restaurant.

I love going here, nice pho, spring rolls, and vietnamese iced coffee (cafe sua da). You definitely get your money's worth. I don't know what the other people are complaining about but I got great customer service. Maybe they hired new people.

We visited today Sat, 7/11 around 3:30 pm and we were the only people there. The lunch crowd had left. Two girls served us, very polite and helpful. I have been reading that service here is slow which we wouldn't know because we were the only people there at the time and we got our food within minutes. Wife had ordered crab rangoon, two skewers of satay and Jjamppong (Korean seafood soup). I had ordered a Pho which had everything in it. All our food was super delicious. The soup bowls were huge. My wife has been to south east Asia and she has had the same food there, so she knows how it should taste. And I have had Pho in different Asian restaurants in the Bay Area so I also know what to expect in my Pho. After we were done, the owner also came and asked how the food was. She was nice and sweet. The check came to $30 which was reasonable considering that potions were quite good. We would definitely go back there. The place was also clean and well done up.

My favorite pho. The staff are sweet as can be and always get my pho to-go order correct. Check them out!

While the restaurant reeks of something questionable, the flavor of the food is decent. It's a nice large space with both booths and regular tables and chairs. And the service is of decent speed. Everything is just ok. And I would have given it 3 stars but they got one of our orders wrong and forgot one of our drinks. According to the locals I went with, this is the place for pho in the area, and while I didn't taste the soup, I do appreciate the fact that they gave more than one sprig of basil per person, and that they used real thai chili peppers (the little ones) instead of sliced jalapenos. Gives a real kick to the broth, slightly different to jalapenos. I had a spicy chicken lemongrass basil something dish with noodles that was listed under rice but you could have it with mi or com, meaning noodles or rice. I think it was number 157. It was pretty tasty although drenched with sauce. It had mushrooms which was yummy and bell peppers which I could have done without. I also had crab rangoons which were worth its pretty penny. 6 crab rangoons, not in little envelope thingies but pinched in the middle and made into a pretty shape. As in the pic :) sauce anything and it tastes good. I probably won't be back unless I'm on this end of 28th st. and craving crab rangoons, which I rarely do.

My eternal quest for quality Pho Ga led me to Golden 28 one evening for dinner. I was thrilled when I saw all of the 4 and 5 star reviews on Yelp. Alas, my experience and their Pho Ga leave much to be desired. As far as I could tell, their Pho Ga is served with a beef broth - not a chicken broth. And as far as broth goes - it just was not that flavorful. The chicken was tender and the noodles were not clumped, and the veggies/aromatics were fresh. I did have to request sliced Jalapeños as they did not provide any on the dish. So they did bring some out - although they were some of the mildest I've had in a long time - not much heat. I ended up applying a lot Sriracha sauce to individual bites and to the broth to give it some real flavor. They have a wide range of other menu items. Service was very good.

Now, I'm a Sou. Cal local stuck in what is mostly a mono-cultured Grand Rapids. (I mean the best "restaurants" happens to be mostly bars in this town) And, yes being a Sou Cal local I've probably tried more Pho Ga than I can count, and Golden 28 comes to par with all these other places. Is it the best Pho I've ever had, no. Is it one of the only few Pho places in the West Michigan area that does it decently? Yes. It's probably why I'll be going back. As well, it helps me when the restaurant has that air of authenticity to it, they give chop sticks to their customers (instead of forks and knifes first), and on Sundays there are entire Vietnamese families lined up outside the restaurant waiting to get in.

The service and kitchen are very slow. It took 55mins to get my food after walking in the door. There was no wait and only 2 other tables. I ordered to go once and it took even longer. But the food is very reasonably priced and pretty good. Very good pho.

Lets start off by saying I never like to leave a bad review. I genuinely appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that go into opening and running your own business, and the thought of breaking down anyones spirit saddens me. That be said, there would be no sense in having a Yelp account if I would not state my honest opinion. I have actually had two different Vietnamese families live on my block, and any time I get the chance, I try out a different restaurant in hopes of finding another favorite. My point is, I know Vietnamese food pretty well and I know what to expect. This restaurant appears clean, with several tables and booths and a brown colorscheme on the walls it slightly reminds me of a *nice* diner/family-coney restaurant. Which is not bad, but it certainly doesnt scream Vietnamese. We ordered the fresh springrolls, which I thought were pretty decent..however, my husband had to stop eating after a few bites as he stated it smelled funky. I believe the term he used was `rotten crotch`. Onto the entrees, I ordered rice with a porkchop, egg and shredded pork. DH went for a dish described as chicken with lemongrass and a spicy sauce with peanuts over noodles. Unfortuntely the chicken was very dry, there was absolutely no lemongrass to be detected and the sauce was..lacking. Combine these factors and he was left with bland, rubbery chicken over dry noodles. He kept asking me where the peanuts were so i pulled out my utensils to dig a few up from the bottom of his bowl. These couple of peanuts were the highlight of his dinner. For real. My dinner was just that, rice with shredded pork, a fried egg and a pork chop. The rice was..well, rice, and the shredded pork was dry and bland. The reason I "awarded" the restaurant two stars, is because the pork chop was actually enjoyable.

Anyone who likes this place is clearly smoking meth.... They put too much Nuoc Mam (fish sauce) in all of their food. That makes it salty and fishy and makes me upset. Going here makes me angry.

We were in Grand Rapids for the day and we wanted something that we didn't have in Ann Arbor, which is good Vietnamese food. Golden 28 popped up first on Yelp and the reviews were helpful in making a sound decision to come here for lunch. My boyfriend had a vermicelli dish with pork chop, shrimp, and an egg roll. I had a rice plate with pork chop, an egg, and shredded pork (#140). I was thrilled when the server asked me if I wanted plain white rice or broken rice. Broken rice? For real? That's an option IN Michigan? In addition, we also ordered a bowl of pho to share (#9) and it was also very good. I can't express how happy the food made me. I grew up in Cali and am used to having places like Golden 28 lining up busy streets and for a moment I was temporarily transported back again. No major complaints about this place at all except that it's on the west side of the state. I wish there was one in Ann Arbor...

Golden 28 is my go to place when I'm looking for take-out while I'm at home and dont' want to drive far. They have a very large menu and I have not been dissapointed when I have ordered. My wife and son like it and he is kinda picky. They have great pho.

I was recently told that Golden 28 has better Pho than Far East Restaurant. I would have to agree. The Pho has a more fresh taste, possibly due to the broth or ingredients. Also excellent on the menu are the spring rolls and vietnamese egg rolls. The service a good and food comes out pretty quick. If you are looking for great Vietnamese food, try the Golden 28 restaurant.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! Ordered takeout, got it home and it was horrible. We ordered General Tso's Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Orange Chicken, Vietnamese Spring rolls, Pot stickers and Beef Brisket Pho. The main entrees all tasted burned and the meat used was very suspicious looking. The spring rolls looked like they were fried in used motor oil and didn't taste much better. The vegetables, meat and noodles for the Pho were not fresh, the vegetables and meat were slimy and very fragrant, in a bad way. Returned 14 minutes after to ask for a refund with all the food and was told I could have $20 of my $43 bill back. I was then approached by a upset gentleman from the kitchen and was told that since I was american I should go buy american food since I didn't know what I was talking about. He then told me he called the owner and that's all the owner would allow him to refund. He then proceeded to call the police to tell them that there was an american in his restaurant that didn't like his food. The police came of course and told me I was out of luck so I had no choice but to take the $20. Without a doubt worst customer service, food and experience in 32 years of dining out in Grand Rapids. I have a 4 year Culinary Arts Degree and I do know that I will never eat there again, and I will do my best to make sure nobody else I know does either. Take your money to someone who deserves it.

Golden 28 is very good. It is reasonably priced, the portions are generous, and the food is delicious. It is probably my second favorite chinese place that I have been to in Grand Rapids. I visited Golden 28 for lunch hoping to find a restaurant a little closer to work that could satisfy my craving for pho. I believe the soup was a good representation of the dish the broth had good color and was quite flavorful. The meat of your choice in the dish seemed a little light compared to other places I have eaten. I had to ask for a couple accoutrements such a the long leafy green I believe to be called Kulontro and the red chili paste that is generally served with this dish. I had a Vietnamese iced coffee which in my opinion was as good as anywhere I have had it. The staff was friendly enough but botched a question for one of my fellow patrons. He asked what the seafood that looked like a thinly sliced scallop with hot pink edges was she replied Lobster. I recognized the product but couldn't recall what it was just knew it wasn't lobster. I happened to be in one of the Asian markets along division and found it to be a type of commercially produced fish cake. For that reason and the fact that there was a dirty table in the dining room upon our arrival and no one in the restaurant earns you two stars. In my opinion if someone has eaten, paid and left you should clean the table.

Excellent Pho! Got the number 3 and finished every drop of the huge portion. They have about 40 types of Pho and a huge menu with all your favorite Chinese dishes. The staff was very nice, the service was fast, and the food was excellent. I'd highly recommend it.

The menu is nearly overwhelming. Golden 28 specializes in Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese food. There are many pages but everything is clearly explained. My mouth is watering. It takes more than a few minutes before we see our waitress again; she is busily working other lunchtime tables. Finally, she delivers water and takes our order. Unwisely, we opt to start with the Appetizer Tray for Two, hoping it will be a panacea to our grumbling stomachs. A platter arrives with fried wonton, fried crab rangoon, fried egg rolls, and fried Vietnamese egg rolls. Do you get the picture? It is our own fault for not examining the individual appetizers more closely. I wanted those light spring rolls wrapped in rice paper, not a deep fried smorgasbord! Still, each of the items is quite tasty, and when dipped into the bowl of sweet-n-sour plum sauce, even more so. I even enjoy the crab rangoon, from which I typically shy away. For our main dishes, we each choose a different variety of Pho (there are over 20 different varieties on the menu). Ever since seeing Anthony Bourdain wax poetic about this dish on No Reservations, I've been dying to try it. Juliet goes with the Dac Biet and Bo Vien, which is steak, brisket, tendon, trip and beef ball. The beef ball isn't what you think; it's a kind of meat sausage formed by hand into little balls. I decide to try the Beef and Chicken (which I think is Dac Biet and Dac Ga, if I remember correctly). Each comes in a very large bowl, thin slices of meat swimming in a fatty, savory broth, steeped in hand-cut rice noodles. Another plate sits between us with fresh Thai basil (still on the stems), lime wedges, bean sprouts, and tiny whole green chilies. I quickly dress up my Pho, mixing everything and preparing to take a bite when... Oh no! The waitress mixed our two dishes! No worries; we quickly swap. I bravely wield the chopsticks (not my strong suit), snagging bits of chicken and beef, along with long strands of dripping, spattering noodles. My first couple tastes are underwhelming. It just tastes like soup, really, with some thin, dry cuts of meat. This is what Tony loves so much? I feel disappointment encroaching. Good things come to those who wait. I think I read that somewhere. As I forge ahead, it becomes clear the Pho is only just started to come alive. The broth becomes more tantalizing; the fresh chili and Sriracha elevate the heat; the meat is rendered tender, and the thin, bumpy slices of tripe (cut thin to mimic the noodles) lose their disconcerting crunch. Though I had gone haltingly into that bowl of Pho, now my chopsticks clicked like chef's blades sharpening. I bring the ladle-spoon utensil to bear now, scooping up great steaming puddles of the broth, drinking it down. Wow. Just wow. I finish my iced Vietnamese coffee and gaze forlornly at the remainder of the unfinished Pho. My belly is full. I am content. So while the appetizer tray was definitely a mistake, the Pho is worth waiting for. Fresh ingredients and authentic preparation more than make up for slightly slow service and typical Asian restaurant decor. I will be enjoying Pho for lunch more often. Don't take my word for it, though; check out video and what my better half has to say about our culinary adventure on our website (linked in my profile)!

The best Pho in town (especially the Pho Ga). I go there for Vietnamese food often - love the owners - my wife and I usually get Chinese Broccoli, Spring Rolls, and large Pho Ga with all the trimmings. Go, Enjoy. Haiku: Basil, culantro, lime, sprouts, Sriracha , chopsticks and a big spoon, - okay, bring it on

Absolutely PHENOMENAL! Ever since I tried their pho.. I can't stay away from this place! If you've never had pho.. and you find yourself in this restaurant.. ORDER IT! I promise you, it will not disappoint even the pickiest of eaters. (It is an absolute MUST to add a little of the sriracha sauce to your pho). They have many different variations, but I always get the #7 (the rare stake pho). Portions are huge, and at a mere $5.95... you can't beat a lunch or dinner at that price! The broth is intoxicating and the ingredients are extremely fresh and delicious. If you are a chinese food lover, they have an extensive menu - I've only taken a bite of a few different things, and all were very good and fresh tasting. Highly reccomend!

Rude! I am in California. We know good Pho here. Had a friend from MI come to visit and introduced her to Com Thit Nuong. She fell in love. Was trying to find her a place to enjoy her new found food and called Golden 28 for her. If the rudeness on the phone is any indication of what she should expect I will find her another place.

This place has the best pho period. The service can get very slow depending on how busy the place is but it is well worth it. I always get the number 7 with extra onions and I have been there enough that they know my order before I place it.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
