If you didn't know about this place, you may never go there due to the run down abandoned pizza hut next door, and the fact it's right off 131 before Division. I say that because I've driven by it for the past 4 weeks and never noticed it myself. Growing up in/around Detroit I feel that I have a right to have an authoritative opinion on what constitutes a quality gyro/donar. This was one of the better sandwiches I've had, ever. Was it life changing you may ask? No. But there is great divide between good gyros and crappy ones. More often than not I'm disappointed. Highlights The Bread - Holy crap, in house baked pita bread, I shit you not. Never have I ever had a restaurant provide homemade pita brad with a gyro. The Meat - Not at all overly salty, tender, straight off the gyro rotisserie good. It was evenly spiced, and delicious. Tzatziki Sauce - It was a lot thinner than what I was used to, however I rather enjoyed it. Veg - Typical raw onion and tomato, freshly cut. Will I go again? -Yes, decidedly so. The restaurant itself was extremely clean, and offered a small market for random eastern European sodas, chips, etc. I'm a bit upset it took me a month to find out about this place. The fries were a-typical but who really cares? $10 lunch with tip.

It was late, we were tired and staying at a nearby hotel---looking for some carryout that was "non" fast food. Came across this place located next to a Pizza Hut advertising $7.99 gyro and fries dinner. Decided to step in and glad that we did. The place is smallish with a small bar and grocery section in the back with lots of little foreign candies and other products. We ordered our meal...one gyro with fries and one cheese steak and fries. About 10 minutes later we had our food to go. Can't comment on a dine-in experience but I'm sure it would have been fine. The staff was friendly, the place was clean and the food was GREAT! The gyro came sort of like a stuffed sandwich full of meat, onion, tomato and sauce. Neater to eat than a standard gyro and very filling. Fries were average but decent. Would eat here again if I were in the area.

They have since changed their fries, and they are tasty now. The only thing I would recommend with the gyro is to have them add feta cheese! I have tried this since my original review and I didn't believe they could be more amazing and mouth watering. This place deserves 5 stars now. Very nice staff.

Every time I go to Bosna Express, I feel like I've been teleported out of Grand Rapids. Amazing ethnic food, cheap prices, rad little market tucked away in back. You might not get food on your table as quickly as you'd like, but hey - take your time. Soak it in. You'll love this place.

Amazing Gyro. Nice people. Cozy atmosphere.

So good. The gyros are amazing. Best in town easy! And you can't beat the price!!!

The gyros are AMAZING

We wanted to try Bosnian food and Grand Rapids has a pretty large Bosnian community. We found this place with a quick Google search. This place is awesome. Seriously, best cheesesteak I have ever had. Philadelphia may have invented it, but Bosna Express perfected it. This restaurant is worth the drive. Highly recommended!

In my opinion the best place for food, drink and soccer in all of Michigan. Exquisite Mediterranean food accompanied with traditional European service. Cannot get enough of this place! A must for anyone who resides or is just visiting Grand Rapids.

Gyros are the best. The family that owns the place is very friendly. Great atmosphere and there's something for everyone

Yessssssss. We only had one thing so my review will be short. That being said, I will be having this 'one thing' frequently from here on out.. We loved the gyro! The meat was juicy and had a nice seasoned flavor, the fresh veggies were crisp and cold and the cucumber cream sauce was very good. The bread on which the sandwich comes is fluffy and different than usual - it was so, so good. Great sandwich!

Every time I eat here I'm impressed. I usually get the gyro, but this time decided to try the philly cheese steak. Glad I did. Two kinds of cheese, grilled onions and peppers, mushrooms, a generous helping of steak, and a sauce that adds a hint of spice. DELICIOUS! This will now be my go to whenever I eat here.

Very good gyro. Stopped in on my way to Grand Rapids and was delighted by how nicely it was put together and how it tasted. The pita alone was great and there was a perfect amount of ingredients that prevented the sandwich from falling apart. Will eat here again if i ever stop in the area. Staff was really nice to.

Decent food. I just want to help people in Grand Rapids. Bosnia is not in the Middle East in any shape or form, or even close to it. It's in the Balkans which is a region of Europe. Europe is not the Middle East. You may be getting confused because Bosnia is a Muslim majority region which had conflict in the early 1990s between Croatian Catholics, Serbian Orthodox and Bosniac Muslims there. There are slight Turkish influences, and slavic influences in Bosnian food, but it is not Middle Eastern at all. I've been to the Levant (Lebanon, Cyprus, Israel, Jordan) and to Bosnia, and enjoyed the food in all of them!

This place is absolutely incredible. Such a friendly staff, very nice atmosphere, and incredible food. They've recently remodeled the interior a bit, and it looks great. The first time I went, I dined in, and the last several times, I've called ahead and just picked up my lunch since I work a few blocks away. The gyros are heavenly - the perfect amount of seasonings, the most amazing sauce, and the pitas -- don't even get me started on the pitas. Last time I was there, I tried the Philly cheese steak, and I was absolutely amazed. I had a religious experience over this sandwich, and it was perhaps the best I've ever had. I will keep coming back to Bosna Express, that's for sure.

Great food!! Been going here for about 10 years and it just gets better and better. I highly recommend the gyro with fries. Such a great dish and would recommend it to anyone. Also they renovated the inside of their location and it's beautiful. Definitely will keep coming back.

Came into the restaurant once a couple years ago and seemed like a simple place with excellent food! My Boyfriend and I were craving gyros and I told him about this place! Believe me it was amazing, just same as last time! But this time the whole place looked different! I asked the emotes there what happened to the place and he told me how they will be having beer and wine there now and that they have been renovating the whole restaurant! Will be coming here more and more often now! Place is awesome!

Detroit has the largest Mediterranean and Middle Eastern population in the U.S. So if you want the best Gyro in the country you'd probably find it there right? Well, I lived there for 6 years and I can tell you this was better than the best I had there (and finding Gyro joints around town was my thing). Friendly Family owned too. I've been going in here since it had a pool table and nowhere to sit.

Not the best Gyro in the world, but it was still satisfying. The meat tasted great, the bread was a little chewy but in an enjoyable way I guess. The sandwich lacked in the tomato department with only one slice, but the tzatziki sauce was very good. The French fries are definitely good, medium thickness but nice and crunchy, and they only cost a dollar more with the meal. They did not have lemons today, not sure if its something they would normally carry. If there had been feta in the sandwich, and tzatzki on the side, instead of right on the sandwich it would make more sense to me. My left over bread was soggy a half hour later do to this. (I like to save half of my food almost every time I go out.) But then again they would have to waste more plastic by putting the sauce on the side, to go. The prices where slightly pricey, not TOO bad honestly, all the meals being around 10.oo, I hoped to spend more around 7-8.00. Feta on the sandwich, slightly cheaper prices, and lemons on the side I would probably have given them a 4 star, not entirely for the food but they sell some middle eastern food packets and side supplies which is a nice thing if you like to cook this style of food.

Best Gyro in Grand Rapids by far. The homemade pita is made fresh as are all the ingredients that go in to this fantastic sandwich!
(5)Teddy N.
5 stars! This place raises the bar on gyros. Baking their own bread to size of a football and stuffing it with the beef/lamb changes the game. No more pita wrap gyros for me once going here. Authentic ethnic food is always the way to go.

HANDS DOWN BEST GYRO I HAVE EVER HAD! Don't judge the outside by the inside. I almost drove by then had a split second change of heart and Im glad I did! Owner/Staff is extremely nice and it is very clean and neat inside. I defiantly eat here again next time Im in town.....and I ate there 4 days in a row this last time I was in town.

Great gyro and beef Stromboli but even better steak sandwich... He uses the meat from the gyro to make them and unique hot sauce that has me coming back on a regular basis. If you decide to order out call ahead, takes about 15 mins.
(5)Kyle A.
Best Gyro I've had in Grand Rapids so far. The fresh baked "pita bun" really brings the sandwich together. The ingredients are fresh and plentiful, and the price is reasonable. You will not leave hungry, and the shop is cool to check out while you're waiting for your food

This place was very good. I would probably eat here pretty regularly if I lived in the area. The meat was seasoned well, portions were good and atmosphere was much much nicer than I expected. Also the service was very friendly. I travel for work and spend probably 60% of my time on the road. While doing so I love trying new places. With that, I have had some great experiences and some bad experiences, but gems like this place make the risk of not knowing what I'm getting in to worth it. Keep up the good work and tasty food.

My wife and I were meeting for lunch and she tasked me with finding a restaurant with "something warm". I found Bosna Express on Yelp. I'm happy to say I hit a home run with this pick. The decor isn't fancy but I actually enjoyed seeing the small shop with imported goods for sale in the back of the restaurant as it added to the authentic feel of the place. Our waiter explained his family owned the restaurant and the items on the menu were dishes he grew up eating. Upon his recommendation, my wife ordered the Cevapi (little grilled sausages on homemade bread). I stuck with my original plan of a gyro although I was tempted to try the moussaka or one of the dishes from the Authentic Bosnian section of the menu. The portions were very generous and fairly priced. The food was phenomenal. The sauce on my gyro really tied everything together and was the perfect blend of creaminess and fresh flavor to balance the grease from the gyro meat. My wife's meal was also delicious - the meat had such a great smoky flavor. Having said that, I think the real star of the show was the homemade bread. It was different than your typical pita but in a good way - fluffy and doughy at the same time with a good buttery finish. It was also great to see the place frequented by regulars who spoke to the owners in their native tongue. We'll be back for sure.

Excellent food. Best gyro in town. Kind and friendly service. Fresh made bread and meats are what bring us back every time.

Excellent food. Drove past this place for 15 years before trying it, and they have delicious food! The service was very friendly too. Highly recommended.

The best 'Greek' food I have had in the west MI area. We had a gyro and the chicken cabobs. Both way too much food and just perfect! Also shared the cabbage rolls which were juicy and steamed to perfection. The price wasn't horrible and both the server and store owner were perfectly friendly and spoke the language of Bosna which was super interesting and made the whole experience that much more authentic. They also sell a lot of great Mediterranean items for cooking, as well as candy, fresh feta, and different authentic sodas.

Really really good. Went in in the evening and there didn't seem to be anyone in there but the employees. I always hate when employees are sitting at the dining tables, unless they're legitimately eating, which they usually aren't. Place is dark and a bit icky. Food was ready in less than 5 minutes, but you wouldn't have guessed it could have been made that quick because it was so good! People on Yelp have stated that but WOW. The meat was just salty enough, warm, tender, not chewy, with a delicious tzatziki sauce ON the meat, which was perfect. The sandwhich was huge, had to smash it together to eat it and I could only eat half (with half the fries). Like other reviewers said, fries were good, but kind of typical. They did almost have a little McDonald's flavor (which is a good thing for me). The pita was a little weird. It was fine, it had a chewyness like pita, but it was more a giant bun cut in half. NOT cheap, $9 for a gyro and fries. No, not cheap. Dissapointed it cost so much. Easy that it's on 28th st., and they have a parking lot. I like that they sell some sweets and snacks from around the Bosnia-area.

Stopped here out of the blue. Fantastic food. Homemade pita's are the best!! Very reasonable pricing for what you get
