Great coffee and Tasty snacks. Go there to just chill and work or kibitz and look at some local art. Staff is wicked friendly and always funny.

nice cozy environment, friendly staff, super awesome flavors... the girls bathroom has a painting of some guy next to a huge mirror that scared me 5/5

This little coffee shop is great, they use the same beans that zimmermans in Ann Arbor does for the wonderful coffee they serve. Everymonday night is open night mic where folks can come in and express there artistic talents. Tuesday nights is bike night bring your bike and cruise around downtown Wyandotte. Then 3rd fridays of the month they have an art show and there always something going on in Wyandotte 3rd fridays to enjoy. The Coffee drinks come in a large mug to enjoy and it alwats taste just rite. I get a capucino most times and tea on others. They have a piano that sits far back in the corner that many will just stop in and play from time to time.the building is very old and gives you this 1920's feel .

Tongues is the best coffee shop in the Downriver area and I'd argue one of the best in the Detroit area. The coffee is high quality and you get alot for your money. The atmosphere is great too. It's a fun place to chill.

Fantastic coffee. Chilled-out atmosphere without pretension. I love the fact that I can look at the menu board and not get confused by coffee drinks named so esoterically that unless I am on the bleeding edge of 22 I feel clueless. You can get your favorite coffee or tea (and a few cold sodas) here and have a sitdown in the soft gloom and just. Relax. For a while. There is no pressure here, and there is plenty to look at if you are more of a looker and less of a chatter. The building is very old, lovingly maintained and filled with small artworks and a sturdy set of bookshelves that house roughly a thousand interesting books. Sit at a table at the front near the natural light of the windows. Sit at the back and listen to the conversations in the sofa pit next to yours. And there are always a few interesting types hanging about, if you are into people watching. They do a brisk business, but they don't seem to deal in the same type of caffeine junkie that frequents the chain stores like Starbucks. People that go to Tongues go for the excellent coffee because they want to take the time to appreciate everything else that goes into it, not just the cream and sugar. One of the few places in the world where I actually enjoy myself.

Home sweet home! This place starts me off right everyday with the most perfect cup of coffee. They also offer fresh made-to-order sandwiches which are delicious. It feels good supporting a local coffeeshop in downtown Wyandotte instead of running off to a corporate chain. And where else can you find local art on display?

Cozy little place on Biddle Avenue, that is Jefferson to non-Wyandotters. I met up with a group of people there and ordered a Chai. I usually wait for it to cool before I take a sip, but when I fianally did it was almost too cold. Not sure why. No big deal. I was surprised to see a variety of hot dogs on the menu. Coneys, Chicago and New York style. That was unusual. Almost got one but held off so I cannot report on how they tasted. Family friendly atmosphere with acoustic music. Good place to spend an evening with friends.

Was here yesterday with a friend. Loved it. The setup is nice with the chairs and living room type area. I really like how involved the owner is. He was chatting with us and seemed to really enjoy being there. They buy local coffee so that is a plus. I love the protein powder idea. They have an system where you can get your own coffee and just put money in the jar, don't have to wait in line. Great location too near some nice shops and restaurants. Will definitely return

Tongue's serves as an excellent reminder of why independent coffee shops are important. For what you'd pay for one drink at one of the large corporate coffee establishments you can get two here and, as if that wasn't reason enough to go, the coffee is GREAT. Not okay, not good but great and there are so many different options and flavors that being able to purchase two for what would normally be the price of one starts to become increasingly more appealing. So the next time you're in the mood for coffee think twice about where you're going and what you're paying for because chances are it won't be nearly as good as what you can get here.

First of all let me say HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY!! When choosing a coffee shop, I have to remind myself that is not the coffee I'm paying for but the atmosphere. For my first visit, I had a pleasant and warm welcomed experience. The berista was very friendly, and knowledgeable about what to suggest for what I was looking for. Had the 'redeye' on his suggestion, and glad I did; woke me right up! The atmosphere was warm with a rustic feel, mostly tabkes, 2 couches, and local art for sale hanging on the walls. The patrons at the counter were all chatting away, local regulars I assume. The nose level was minimal making getting some studying done possible. The menu is small, but I like that; fresh products! Local coffee and fresh beans for sale. I will defenseless be visiting again.

Eh, I'm tired of updating my review with this place but my last experience here is definitely worth an updated review. I first went here upon moving to Wyandotte in 2012 and had a bad experience. The owner very graciously apologized to me and corrected the situation. However, I never went back until a few weeks ago. At that time, I ordered a hot chocolate and my friend got a coffee. Everything seemed great, and the barista was on point with everything. So I hoped finally I found my spot downtown to hang out or to drop in for a coffee or other other drink which is what I did about a week later. I ordered a mocha with only 1 shot of espresso (I'm monitoring my caffeine intake due to pregnancy) and the barista informed me that their espresso machine only makes 2 shots and they aren't allowed to waste the other shot. I never heard of this reasoning in my life....you make the drink how the customer orders it. I was a bit caught off guard and just said ok, no thanks and left...but then I thought well I should have got 1 shot in the drink and 1 shot on the side and dumped it out...lol..then I thought what the heck?! If I want one shot then please, make me one shot! Sorry tongues, but you've got a lot to learn about making espresso drinks! I'm seriously becoming depressed with the lack of good restaurants and coffee places downriver. Thinking of just moving back to Seattle. :-)

The batista was very nice, attentive and made me a great iced latte. I will be coming back for more coffee and to check out their live music!
(5)Steffen L.
Update: A couple negatives today are making me drop a star. There's definitely one very unprofessional barista. He likes to talk to his buddies about how much the customers aggravate him. He does this while in earshot of his customers. Not cool. Overall he's just an angry sort if guy. You can tell he'd be happier if nobody interacted with him (Wrong profession...) Also, the bathrooms didn't look like they'd been cleaned in a while.

I just love this place to pieces, the feeling you get inside and the people. Very laid back and makes you feel like you're on some sort of anti anxiety drugs lol The staff is very courteous, the place is very clean and there were smiles everywhere around.

I really wanted to like Tongues. And in a way, I still kind of do - after all, it's Downtown Wyandotte's only independent coffee shop (RIP the Grind). It plays good music, the staff is super friendly, and it has a cool atmosphere. But I go to coffee shops for the drinks, and the drinks are just not good. I've been to Tongues twice. The first time was when it opened, and I can't remember anything about my drink there, good or bad (which says something), so I tried it out again last week. I got two drinks during my stay: an Americano and a chai tea latte. The Americano tasted a bit watery, like it came from a sachet, and this was evidenced by the look of it, too: it looked a bit like black tea, without any of the usual bit of foam at the top that a normal Americano would have. But it wasn't undrinkable, and for the price (about $2.50) I didn't feel ripped off, just bummed. I think my experience (and my rating) would have been better if I had left it at that, but I really wanted to be impressed, so I went and ordered a chai tea latte. Now. People like their chai different in different places. I understand that. But this literally tasted like milk with cinnamon and maybe some sort of syrup in it. I didn't taste any tea. I didn't taste anything, really. It was very disappointing. And it was actually served in a clear beer mug, so it would have been easy to see and measure out ingredients. Please don't misunderstand me, because I am not trying to slay people here. The atmosphere was great and the staff seemed great. I got the impression that, if they had known I hadn't enjoyed either drink, they would have comped it or made me another one. But the drinks that I got were very simple coffee house classics, so I wasn't too eager to keep testing the waters. I did notice that Tongues offers coffee by French press, so I might come back again and check out their house brews. All in all, though, RIP the Grind.

What a yummy little spot :) I stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a warm cup of coffee. I was warmly greeted by staff and the decor was inviting. I went with the medium roast coffee, which was delicious, and ordered the bagel with cream cheese and smoked steelhead. The fish had a great even smoke to it, cream cheese was the right amount, and the bagel was perfectly toasted. All in all, a great little spot that I'll definitely return to! Thanks for the hospitality :)
(5)Donna L.
came here when I was visiting a friend. I really wanted to like it as it seemed to have really good reviews but my latte didn't give me any "wow" factor. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't just hit up dunkin donuts. I was also hungry so I got a peanut butter cookie.... which was even worse. Food isn't all that great but I guess some stars to the fact that its a nice atmosphere...
(2)Victoria C.
Pretty good coffee shop. Clean, good seating. Prices seem OK. Mocha tastes more like hot chocolate than a mocha though.
(4)Doug Z.
Zingermanns coffee, friendly staff, and a great pair of owners...great to have as a downtown business. I wish they we're open in the morning again though...
(5)M Christina M.
Excellent coffee, very welcoming friendly staff and a welcome change from other coffee shops in or around the area. Think Java Joe's but 21st century coolness. My friends and I frequent often. The owner's Tim and Greg have really done it right. The other staff there, Sam and Kelsey (yes! They share names AND remember yours..), in particular, are fantastic as well. Very modern, clean and a nice down home atmosphere, it's like having coffee with dear friends. The expresso...oh, dear, heaven in your mouth. They will add a shot of protein (35g!) to any latte or drink. Love, love, love it! Check it out! They promise not to disappoint.
(5)Tony C.
Very enjoyable. Good coffee. The only place in Wyandotte that has an acoustic piano.
(5)Renee L.
Tongue's is the best! The capps are my favorite, although all the beverages are awesome. Service is spectacular, too!
(5)Natalie M.
I'm a frequent patron of this business and there is a reason for that: I love their delicious drinks, the awesome staff, and the chill atmosphere. Their drinks are fantastic. They use Zingerman's Coffee (from Ann Arbor, also an awesome restaurant). If you would like protein in your drink, all you have to do is ask. The staff is very friendly and fun. The atmosphere of this place is so chill and relaxing. I've spent many of my trips playing Scrabble and hanging out with friends. I love Tongues!!!
(5)Matthew P.
This place has some killer coffee and a great atmosphere. I know this might sound weird but you can add protein powder to your lattes and it's great. You definitely must go. The owners are nice too. Good combo!
(5)Jared B.
Went out last night to see Dave Martin ( shineyheadmusic.com )perform. Had a great mocha and wife had an amazing latte. Crowd was friendly and warm.
