Delicious! I am very picking when it comes to Asian food b/c I had the luxury of having a Cambodian/ Laotian grandma that cooks everything including Thai.I was having a craving for spicy Thai curry without the coconut milk ...aka Gang pa.It was amazing! Will definately return.

We came for a late lunch here yesterday with my cousins and I have to admit, this place is very pretty. The decor is beautiful, and the location is primo son! Parking is not a PITA as well. But restaurants are not all about the looks and the location. It's definitely more about the food that's served in the establishment. A week ago, we were gonna come here because my cousin was celebrating her birthday and she was VERY ADAMANT about having the Tom yum soup here. But the time we went, they were closed. So, no foul, went to eat somewhere else. Yesterday, we were blessed with the chance of finally putting this establishment to the test. So we ordered an array of entrees and a bowl of their famous tomyum soup. Yes the soup was exquisitely robust! Perfect for a super amazing cold season like this. Their medium hot is not as spicy as I would like it to be, but I don't really care about that. The flavor is the most important component of the dish. Their entrees are tasty as well, specially my fish and my boyfriends spicy squid. Their pad thai is to be reckoned with as well. We had their 1/2 duck in curry and their pork with eggplant. Both were super delish. Service was awesome and they were very attentive. At the end they even placed the bill on the table. AMAZING! The glass is always half full. Weeeeeeee!! Follow me on instagram @rodtorres3

Always a treat. Haven't found an item on the menu I don't like. The spicy salted squid is my favorite. The soup served with lunch , no matter the variety is always good, and they will large size it for a dollar. That brings us to the service which is excellent, quick friendly and helpful. What more could you ask for?

This was my first visit to Coastal Thai. Having moved back to Michigan from the west coast, I was skeptical. My server recommended the curry with eggplant, mushrooms, peppers, onions and chicken. The flavors were delicious! Their lunch special pricing is very good. Looking forward to many more visits!

Best Thai downriver....hands down!
(5)Tito J.
I have visited this place twice now once for lunch and another time for dinner. Both times were very good. The lunch comes with free soup so I would suggest lunch but really the food looks and tastes fresh I plan on going back soon.

I love the drunken noodles. I get mine medium for the spice. If you're not a spicy person get the light. My daughter loves their Thai ice tea. A little sweet for me but great flavor
(5)Mike C.
Great food and service. I go there over and over again. I have eaten here 2 times and take out 3 times and every time the food was excellent and plenty. I like it spicy and order mine hot and it's prefect for me.
(5)ScottyVegas ..
Coastal Thai in Wyandotte is the best Thai restaurant around. I've eaten at most in the area and have had Thai in many cities around the country. I can honestly say this restaurant ranks in the top for me. The quality is top notch, the price is fair, and the portion size leaves me a little left over for a light lunch the next day. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
(5)Maureen B.
Over the entire USA that I have eaten Thai food. This place hands down wins for me. The curry dishes are the best! yes everyone of them rocks!!!!!
(5)Rebecca C.
Love love love:) the food is fantastic & the service is always so fast & the servers are amazing/)
(5)Gina Ä.
Waitstaff was really friendly and helpful and the food was out quick and VERY delicious. I love going here!
(5)Colette N.
I checked Yelp for a restaurant in the Wyandotte area for lunch. Coastal Thai came up with great reviews so we decided to stop. Portions are on the larger side. Little atmosphere, but nice and spacious. Quick, reasonable, clean, delicious - 'bout sums it up. Great lunch. Thx Coastal Thai, thx Yelp.

They give a big portion of food which is always a plus going out to eat so expect left overs. The spices are decent but it's not as hot as I like it to be. I always order it hot but it only comes out "medium". So if you're a spicy food lover like me don't have your hopes up but the food is pretty tasty. the wait staff is nice as well. They seemed short on staff last night so it had a "rush" feel to it when placing my order but it was a good dining experience. We will definitely go back when in the mood for Thai food.

I had the drunken noodles at Coastal Thai. It was my first time visiting there, and my measure of a Thai place is how well they do on drunken noodles (pad kee mao) and pad thai. The dish was very ample in portion, and flavoring was good. The heat (spice) level was just right. There were a bit too many onions for my taste, and they were hard to tell apart from the noodles. My daughter and I also split a tofu todd which was cooked a little uniquely from what I'm used to, but was very tasty as well. I would stop back in if I'm in the area again.

It's great to have a good Thai restaurant so close to home! There are a lot of reasons why I like Coastal Thai so much: 1. The decor is understated and pleasant. So many places are either over-decorated and gilded, or just plain and kind of grubby. They added a nice screening of bamboo, which helps cut some of the wind that comes in when the door is opened. 2. The servers are always pleasant and professional. 3. The food is yummy good! 4. Portions *are* big, but we share, so we end up getting 4 meals for the price of one entree and an appetizer. Our "usual" menu choices are the dumpling appetizer, and the BBQ catfish, served with fried rice. Lots of vegetables in with the rice.
(5)Nothing H.
For the area, not a bad Thai restaurant. Food is average, and sometime hit or miss. I eat here often (because it is close) and the consistency of the dishes varies. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting. Staff are nice. I love Thai food and there really is no great Thai in the area so you have to settle for this or a couple other places to get your fix around here.
(3)Laura S.
Great food, speedy service, and a pleasant, clean environment....can't ask for much more. I love the Bangkok Fried Rice and the portion size is HUGE. Easily enough for two meals. The pork Thai dumplings are delish also.
(5)Jaime B.
Their Tom yum is amazing, but every other dish I have had there has been sub par. One time my beef was kind of sour and was disintegrating in my mouth- I think maybe over marinated? Not sure. It was gross. They also have weird hours- I'd say maybe 3 times my friends and I have driven out there, and they have been closed (during their business hours) which was irritating.
(3)Dan F.
For Thai food this is the place to go. The staff is very friendly. The bathrooms are very clean. My wife and I have been there several times. The only thing I would stay away from is the Duck. Favorites are the Pad Prik and Hawaiian Fried Rice.
(5)Jenee M.
Not feeling this place. The orders are never correct and the food is grossly spilling out of the packaging. Always a mess when you are taking the food out. I have ordered several menu items; no consistency! My gang gai is always ordered mild. Sometimes, no flavor! None! Other times, it is so hot it's not edible. I always order my picks with no mushrooms. EVERY time my food was loaded with mushrooms. They only get 2 stars because they are friendly when ordering and picking up food. That's it! I will not be back.

Nicely situated in downtown Wyandotte, Coastal Thai does not disappoint. I had the tofu tom kha soup, shrimp pad Thai, and a Thai tea. Everything was above average and the shrimp was actually fresh. I ordered my food spicy and I was pretty satisfied with how it came out. It's hard to predict what a place deems "spicy" and it's usually way too little or just overboard, but Coastal Thai was on point. Definitely better than I expected to find Downriver. Ample parking, nice waitstaff & decor, and a nice walk afterwards to Stroh's or Sanders for some ice cream. Prices are about average, maybe a tad more than you'd expect, but not unreasonable given the quality and location. They also have lunch specials. I'll be back next time I'm around.
(4)Alesia S.
I have to be a fan of this place. It is the only thai food close by. I have tried the drunken noodles, pad thai and pad see eww. All are decent but will probably stick with the pad thai from now on.
(4)Lisa W.
I have been to this restaurant 5 or 6 times , it is very fresh and the food is very consistent. I enjoy the masa mun, the gang gey, the red curry dish, the pad Thai and the spring rolls are very yummy. I am very picky about Thai food and this place is perfection. The soups are fantastic as well. This is the best thai in Wayne county and I have been to them all.
(5)Larry N.
Good Thai food, a little on the pricy side but I keep going back because it is good. The portions are large, a dinner is easily two meals. So split it or take it for lunch!
(5)Robert A.
I was excited to try this place out after all the great reviews here, however my first experience here was not so great. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and welcoming. The place was decorated so beautifully. I ordered Pad See Ew, Egg Drop Soup and Shrimp Chips, to go. I loved the Egg Drop Soup...it was very tasty, one of the best I've ever had. The Pad See Ew on the other hand would've been good, but there were cracked egg shells all in my dish. I picked a few out, and then accidentally chewed a few. I gagged a little. Had it not been for that, I probably would've enjoyed my dinner. I will give it another chance later down the road, and try the Gang Gai...but I think for now I will stay away from the egg dishes.
(2)Ryan L.
A good Thai spot if you're in the Wyandotte area. While the food is just good, the service and atmosphere are very welcoming. On the small side, this restaurant makes for a nice place to bring a date or small family, but not a large party of people. The carry-out here comes in ample portions and is always ready by the time quoted. A patio surrounded by a couple restaurants/bars make it a nice, lively environment to eat outdoors. I'm a fan of the spring rolls and anything with their brown sauce. The Pad Thai here isn't on my favorites list. A selling-point may be that it's in walking distance to Stroh's Ice Cream, and who doesn't love a Thai/Ice Cream night?!
(3)Chris G.
The food was ok, similar to other Thai places around and in Others states I've been too. However, the chicken is very chewy and tastes like they do not remove the fat so when you eat it you have a lot of rubbery bites. The price is good and the location is great but the chicken needs to be prepared better for the dishes.
(3)Vince N.
Enjoyed dinner at Coastal Thai tonight. We started off with the Crispy Rolls, filled with pork, cabbage and carrot. They were very good. The wife had a sweet and sour chicken dish that she really enjoyed. I had the Thai Steak, medium spicy over fried rice that was excellent. Next time I might try it Hot, because the medium was pretty weak, compared to the medium spicy at my other thai place that I frequent. Service was good, and the bathrooms are very clean.
(4)Balsam E.
Really like the coconut curry pad thai. Really big portion for about 10$, service was super attentive even though they were slammed! :)
(4)Jon S.
Unless there's some secret I don't know, they brought us the wrong entree and insisted it was the right one when I balked at it. Green curry should not look or taste like red curry. If they were out of green curry paste or something, fine. But just tell us that. It's a shame, actually, because the soups and spring rolls were good, and it would have been a 4 star review or better if we had ordered red curry. I do agree with another commenter that the spice level is a little high. Medium seemed pretty spicy, although it's possible that our dish wasn't meant to be medium. Our best guess was actually that somebody else ordered hot red curry and didn't come pick it up.
(3)Hannah S.
I live in the Royal Oak area, but I'm from Wyandotte, and this is the best thai food around! I've tried about 4 different places and nothing compares. Fast, inexpensive, friendly and clean service. Try the N4 (noodles with sweet brown sauce) or the eggplant with basil is delicious. Get take out and go sit by the Detroit River. Yum!
(5)Alfie W.
This is my favorite restaurant. I love spicy food and curry. Service is great and the restaurant and bathrooms are always very clean. They don't have a lot of seating so if you come at peak times you will be waiting for a table.
(5)Tiffany R.
Absolute best PAD THAI, ever. I moved and whenever I come to the area my husband and I order two orders Togo and have enough pad Thai to last for days. Portions are enormous (in a good way) all time favorite Thai food. I highly recommend the pad Thai medium with fried tofu
(5)Jason W.
This is by far the best Thai restaurant in the area. They do have a challenge with Thai Vylai opening in Allen Park but they are still my favorite. The Tom Yum Soup is the absolute best around. The broth is so good and flavorful!
(5)David W.
Truly good Thai food in the heart of downtown Wyandotte. The soups are quite delicious, as is the Chicken Satay. The Thai Mussel dish was very good with perfectly cooked mussels in a spicy sauce. Very beautiful inside as well. Always had good service from the staff as well. Quick on refills and efficient.

Having moved to the USA from Australia 2 years ago, I was missing Thai food big time! I had tried a few different places on the recommendations of friends, but alas all disappointing! Then a month ago a customer walked into my store and who had also recently just moved America ,and we started talking. While discussing what we missed about our 'former homelands' the topic of food came up and he told me about Coastal Thai-and thank God he did! The food is just incredible, speedy service and the Thai Iced Tea is something special!!
(4)Shawn M.
If you want amazing food, huge portions and great service, then you have to try Coastal Thai.....we drive a ways for this awesome place!
(5)George H.
I was absolutely shocked to find Costal Thai. I have had Thai food all over Michigan and this is by far the best. Food is authentic and delectable, wait staff is attentive and friendly. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
(5)Gavin M.
Glad to have good Thai food close to home. Have eaten here a couple times now and I really enjoyed the food. Hope they keep up the good work!
(4)Winston C.
We recently tried out this restaurant and had a great experience. We went during lunch and there was a 5-10 minute wait. I took this as a good sign as I'm always a little leery of trying new downriver restaurants. The service was friendly and quick. At least with the lunch entrees, you're served a cup of hot and sour soup. Our meals were tasty and we ordered ours with medium spice. We probably could've went with "hot" as I didn't think the medium was necessarily as spicy as I'd personally like it. Still, it was quite delicious . In short: great service, nice atmosphere, good food. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the downriver area and are not in the mood to drive to Bangkok 96.

I've been here twice for dinner, so far so good. The food is really amazing. The flavor is excellent and they give a lot of extras that I haven't found at other Thai restaurants. For example they give the option of having tofu fried or steamed and they also give the option of brown rice for an extra charge of $1.95. The service is excellent and the restaurant is clean and has an appropriate decor. The Tom Ka soup is a must have, it's like a party in your mouth ;-) I only wish they had their liquor license. It would be nice to have a glass of wine with dinner.
(5)Matthew S.
I have been to most of the Thai places around Detroit and this is the freshest and tastiest of all. It's super clean. The plates and silverware are nicer than you'd get at any of the other places. The service is polite and efficient. Yay for Wyandotte!
(5)Jeff K.
Nice place to eat. Friendly wait staff, Excellent food. Very clean and warm atmosphere.
(4)Becky G.
We love this spot! Please try the hot and sour soup! Sometimes my husband and I just go there for soup and apps!
(5)Rikki W.
This place is just ok. My favorites are their soups and satay. I find their other dishes to be quite greasy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice but the service is hit or miss.
(3)JT M.
Amazing! My wife and I have been here several times and have thoroughly enjoyed it. She and I both get the noodle bowl. She gets it without spice, and I get it with medium spice. Excellent. I have ventured off the "noodle bowl" path and enjoyed those dishes as well, but always seem to come back to the noodle bowl. I highly recommend this place.
(5)Katie Y.
I was excited that we finally got a thai restaurant in Wyandotte, but when I went there I realized my expectations were a little too high. The restaurnt had a great decor and the food was alright but it seemed as though they brought the thai food down to americanized standards. Pad Thai was soupy and had a taste like your typical chinese food.
(2)Mike C.
I've eaten at Thai restaurants all over metro Detroit and Coastal Thai is right up there with the best of them. The service is good and the food is fantastic. Most impressive is the obvious freshness of the ingredients. The downriver area has been lacking a good Thai restaurant for the 10+ years I've lived here. I couldn't be happier to welcome Coastal Thai to the neighborhood.
(5)Vaughn M.
I love to try all Thai restaurants and got to try Coastal Thai yesterday. We ate inside and all six of us in the party enjoyed everything we got. I ordered the medium Gang Ped and it was pretty spicy for my Thai experiences, glad I didn't get the hot! The crab Rangoon and spring rolls were just ok. No fountain pops available either, you have to order cans. Service was a little slow, seemed too much for the few girls waiting on tables and cleaning them too. Overall a good addition to Downriver restaurants and I would go again.

I'm so glad there is finally a great Thai restaurant here. The food is very fresh-tasting, not overly salty, which is my common complaint in a lot of Thai restaurants I've been to in MI. Dumplings - They are like Trader Joe's pork dumplings, deep fried. I actually like Trader Joe's pork dumplings so of course I liked these. Tilapia in red curry sauce - I can't say I was extremely crazy about this dish, however, I think it was because of the type of veggies that came with it. The eggplant was undercooked and it had bamboo shoots in it (which wasn't an ingredient for the dish on the menu). If not ultra fresh, bamboo shoots smell and taste like periodontal disease to me (or that decaying smell of what I've smelled in the mouths of old people)...yes, I have a very sensitive sense of smell. But almost all Asian restaurants use canned bamboo shoots and most Asian places have undercooked their eggplants, so I can't judge them harshly for this as I will just exclude these ingredients in my order next time. Pad Vonsen - This is my husband's favorite and I must say that this place has one of the best I've tasted this dish at... Chicken and broccoli with brown sauce - Really enjoyed this. The chicken is sliced and deep fried with a savory brown sauce. The broccoli is not overcooked and still has a nice crunch to it. Grilled Tilapia with brown sauce - I actually loved this dish maybe cos it was exactly what I was hungry for. I got it with fresh sauteed veggies and everything was very fresh-tasting and flavors well-balanced. Pad Thai - Wasn't too crazy about their regular Pad Thai. I guess the sauce was a bit on the sweeter side, too many noodles for me as I prefer more veggies (bean sprouts especially). Best Pad Thai I've ever had was in San Francisco...I lived across a greasy spoon Thai diner and their Pad Thai had a bolder savory fish sauce flavor with tons of extremely crunchy bean sprouts, julienned carrots, and green onions...I guess it's my preference. Service is a hit and miss...though they are pleasant, it just seems like the servers are a bit overwhelmed when things get busy and appear a bit lost of what to do. When people arrive, there is no one to greet them as the servers are also the host. They need a bit of work on this aspect. So other than some minor complaints, right now this is my favorite Thai place in the area as the food has been really good. I'm excited try more dishes and will update with reviews :D
(4)David K.
Pretty damn good. I ordered spicy crab/potato curry. It was properly spicy, not some watered down American/downriver version It really hit the spot The Island Mango ice cream in the orange half was quite good too. The only downside was the rice was a little dry. I will definitely add this place to the rotation.
(4)Dug B.
Outstanding food! Perhaps the best Thai restaurant in all if metro Detroit. If only they served alcohol...
(5)Todd P.
This place just opened three weeks ago. I'm so glad to have another Thai restaurant downriver. Overall - AWESOME! I had Kra Tiem (called Garlic and Pepper on their menu). Had lots of flavor, serving size was good. Also received a bowl of soup as an appetizer, which was also very good Service was quick, environment was very nice and cozy, staff were very efficient. Price as on par with other Thai restaurants. Could even be a good date restaurant. Comparing to other Thai restaurants, still not Sala Thai, but on the heels of Bangkok 96. And a clear notch above all other thai restaurants in the Detroit area. BIG Thumbs up.
(4)Charles S.
Third time to this restaurant. I had the Tofu Todd, decent although I'd prefer them to be thinner slices and served with plum sauce, chili paste, and chopped peanuts as I'm used too. You can ask for plum sauce and their peanut sauce is decent so it worked. However, their crispy fried roll was purported to have pork in it. Maybe they waved a pork chop at it during preparation but that was the closest thing to pork I saw. At least they have shrimp chips. My dining partner got his usual C3 and he asked for it hot. He claimed his was decent. I got the C2 plus peas (a hefty 1 dollar charge for max 2 tbsp s of peas) and it was pretty good. Not earth shattering, but I didn't send anything back. Waitress was average but pleasant. Beautiful building, suitable for a nice date night but perhaps not for an important date night. 2 appetizers and 2 meals and ice water at dinner prices ended up costing 30 dollars which I found reasonable despite the relatively small portion sizes.
(3)Robert W.
Been here a couple of times. Food and service are both outstanding. Restaurant is small and can get a bit crowded during peak times. As it gets colder, ask for a table near the back as the restaurant does not have a vestibule. Sitting by the door can get cold. However, a spicy Peanut Curry kept me nice and warm.
(5)Sean H.
Love their food. Best Thai food ever!
