I love this place. Fellow reviewer Nancy K and I are huge fans of the lunch special and frequently (although not as frequently lately) go to SG (our little nickname) to get some great food and company. I would be happy to sit with a basket of pita bread and hummus and garlic dip and just eat that for hours but I try to round out my orders when I'm here :) Their menu is quite expansive and offers great vegetarian options for those of you who are so inclined. Personally a meat eater myself I really love the chicken tawook with lemon oregano meal. It is SOOOOOO good. Their portions are very generous and I always have some left over to take to work the next day and make all my co workers jealous. The servers are always awesome with giving extra bread and garlic dip to take home. I could literally put the -ish on EVERYTHING. Forget franks red hot, garlic dip is where it's at!

I love Shish Garden so much! Everything I've had here has been absolutely delicious. When I go, I usually get the warm naan, hummus, and the lamb shawarma. It's a great place!

Every time I've been in the people are all amazingly nice!! I grew up in Dearborn so finding middle eastern food, good middle eastern food when I moved was a difficult task. With sish gardens I found it! Seriously I cannot say enough about how kind all the employees are!

I've ordered the chicken schwarma countless times and this place cooks it great! Don't forget the garlic paste. I don't think it is missing anything, the paste is thicker than most places and their menu has many options to choose from. I do tend to order the bread for a couple of my meals throughout the week and it's just as fresh as I heat it up as ordering. I wish they sold the paste in different quantities or jars other than the plastic containers. All of the waitstaff are friendly and will help if your unsure about ordering something new. It's a fresh place to get lunch or carry out.

Some of the best Mediterranean food I have ever had. The lamb kabobs are amazing. The owner makes you feel like home.

Tried this place for the first time for lunch this weekend. I had a kafta sandwich and an iced tea. I have absolutely no complaints. I thought the servers were very friendly, the food didn't take long to prepare, and it tasted great. They kept the bread basket full. It was a nice restaurant. It is small, but felt spacious. I am glad that there are more good Lebanese restaurants Downriver.

Finally, great middle eastern food downriver! This restaurant has become a regular stop for our family and friends. The owners and staff have quickly built a reputation as one of the best new restaurants in the area. Make sure to get the hummus, fresh baked bread and delicious pita chips. Haven't had a bad dish yet. Fresh, home made dishes.

    I. LOVE. Shish. Garden. Love. A client suggested it for lunch one day and it left me satisfied, and it didn't kill my expense account. That's important when you have to take people to lunch a lot. And I have to take people to lunch. A lot. I eat here more than I should, often lunching alone on my own dime or with Lisa M. who has caught my addiction to this place. It's nice that we have a cheap, clean, awesome spot that offers so many options. I would be happy to just sit at a table with bread and that awesome garlic paste they put on the table. It's phenomenal. I usually order a small side of hummus with whatever I'm getting so that I can mix the two and eat bread. It's pretty much a given that you'll fill yourself on the bread and spread prior to your meal. So good! The menu offers a good variety of sandwiches, entree plates, salads, and soups. I generally order the same thing (shish tawook wrap, not sure the official name) but I've also had the salads and a chicken dish that has broiled, flattened chicken that is lightly (and deliciously spiced). The waitstaff is super friendly and attentive if sometimes a little forgetful, but the fact that they are so nice and helpful makes that easy to forgive. Here's what I mean: It got to a point that they knew me there and one waiter and I were pretty much lunch buddies. He actually said one day that I needed to try something else and put together a great lunch option for me of a greek salad with a chicken dish rather than a greek salad with chicken. It was awesome. It was so good that I didn't pay attention and left my debit card in the little portfolio and so he grabbed it and told the manager what I looked like and that I'd probably be back looking for it. Sure enough, the next day I called and they were super nice about it. And I got to go to lunch again. My only gripe, and it's kind of becoming more of a joke than a serious gripe, is that they seem to have an aversion to my pickle aversion. I say, "No pickles!" and yet I seem to always get pickles. I hate pickles. Cucumbers, too. So now I just unwrap my sandwich and pick them out because 70% of the time they put them in. It's funny. Sort of. At some point I need to go for dinner so that I can have dessert, at which point I'm sure I'll update and my 4 will become a 5. I just feel like I haven't sampled enough of the menu to commit to a 5 yet (and I have an excuse to keep going back!).

As being a frequent patron here, this is one of my favorite, if not the best middle eastern restaurant downriver. Friendly staff and delicious food. Our usual takeout or dining in option is a fatoush salad and chicken schawarma sandwich or the saji sandwich ( a delicious alternative)

The restaurant is somewhat small so seating can be a little tight. The food is great! The portions are very large and the prices are reasonable. This is the best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food available Downriver.

Tried the chicken shawarma via carryout. I was not a fan. The marinade just didn't taste good to me, and the garlic spread tasted a bit odd. The prices are on the high side, but you do get a lot of food for your money. The staff seemed friendly enough. I prefer the shawarma at other restaurants so I probably won't go back here.

In my never-ending search for downrivers best Falafel, I tried this joint out recently, and I wasnt dissapointed. It was moderately busy, and some workers seemed in a hurry, but we were sat and waited on very well. Our waiter was very friendly and another gentleman checked on us during the visit to make sure everything was ok with our food. First up, the Garlic and Bread- I would say the Garlic dip here is pretty good, but has a lot of garlicky bite too it. I prefer a little more oil and lemon in the ratio, but if you like the bitey-garlic dip, you will really enjoy it here. The bread was warm and adequate as well. Lentil Soup- by the bowl. Its definitely hearty here, was quite a thick consistancy. The flavor was pretty good, again maybe needing more lemon, and no lemon was brought with the soup like a lot of places do. Now, for the main test, the falafel! Its the best I have had downriver, thusfar. The falafel were crisp and tasty, the sandwich itself was put together ok. The main thing mine was lacking was a decent amount of pickles and pickled turnips. It still doesnt compete with some of the offerings at my favored places in Dearborn and St. Clair Shores, but its pretty solid. Just add some pickles!!!! Overall this review is more like a 3.5, but I gave it a 4 because it was only pickles away from that score.

Fantastic! The garlic dip, hummus, tabbouli (I never know which way to spell this depending on where I am - sorry!) and lamb shawarma sandwich were all delicious. And cheap! The four of us ate for under $30, which is not something we can often do in Atlanta. Awesome. We did have to ask for fresh bread after the first basket came and it obviously had been sitting around for a bit. But that's the end of my complaints of this place.

Had a friend say, "I'm Arab, and I'm picky about my food. Go there." So we did. A Mother's Day spectacular that we thought would have drawn more of a crowd. My first reaction was layout. On one hand when you enter, you have the kitchen right there to your left, but you have your very limited seating to your right. We were sat immediately and loved the weird garlic spread. Had a spicy tang to it and couldn't quite get enough Pita bread. (it's made there, and you can taste the quality) We opted for the Mother's day special: 2 Beef kabobs 2 Chicken kabobs Chicken shwarma Lamb shwarma Rice Baklava (sp?) We were very pleased that we split it between the four of us. The beef kabobs, though stole the show. I'm carnivore and my other reviews show it. I would go back for the beef kabobs any day.

People of downriver please wake up!! This place is a joke. I just (3-17-2014) paid 50 dollars for a chicken shawarma, hummus and lamb, and a vegetarian combo plate. I can go to warren avenue in dearborn and eat this same meal for 30 dollars. First, the hummus was nearly white from way too much tahini. The lamb and hummus was so small I was glad I gorged myself with their never ending bread. I will admit their bread was fresh and the sweet waitress kept bringing it. But please everyone, grow a little bit and travel just 9 miles down the road to dearborn and experience real Arabic cuisine for nearly half the price which is three times as good! You can not get a good Arabic meal in downriver!

Not much going on in Woodhaven in terms of dining destinations, but I'd hazard a guess that Shish Garden is the best of the bunch. As other reviewers mentioned, they start you out with warm pita and a garlic dip that is worth the price of admission (admission is free of course, but you get my drift). The lentil soup is worth ordering, and quite filling. Fattoush, average, no surprises. The hummus is creamy and wonderful. The tomato kibbeh is where they lost me - I was picturing something completely different than the saucy one-note chopped tomato dish that I got. If you know what to order, you can end up with a comprehensively tasty meal here. Why 3 stars and not higher? The ambience could have been much improved (it felt chain-ish inside and kind of generic) and the entree prices were on the higher side of cheap. Also I'm stingy with that fourth star. But I would recommend a visit if you're in the area! Just don't go too far out of your way.

We can't get chicken shawarma in MN so when we're back in the Detroit area I make it a point to grab one if I can. We were visiting a friend in Woodhaven and she suggested we get one from this place, more for location than quality. She told us it was good but it wasn't the best. I ordered a chicken shawarma lunch combo to go. We got one chicken shawarma, waffle fries, a fountain pop and some pitas and garlic sauce for about $7.00. My friend was absolutely right, it was good but it wasn't great. The garlic sauce is lacking something that neither of us can put our finger on but it's just not quite right. The shawarma was tasty and the pitas were good. If the garlic sauce were just a little better this place would be awesome!

We were looking to grab dinner after catching Django Unchained and we say the Shish Garden and decided to grab some mediterranean to go. Service was very quick and the food was pretty good. I loved the tabbouli salad. The hummus was okay. The shawarma plate was very good. The decor looked nice and the staff was very friendly.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the parking lot full on a Tuesday night. I was immediately seated at a small two-top booth (I was alone) by my waitress, with water and garlic spread quickly placed in front of me. I loooove garlic spread but I found it odd that they would bring that out first. Especially without bread. In fact, I usually only get the garlic spread with my entree. Anywho... I went with the Hommous with Chicken, hommous on the side to come out first like an appetizer. Dinners come with soup or salad (I upcharged $1.50 for the Fattoosh) and rice or fries. My bread basket came out after I ordered, with half small pitas (a bit overdone for me, and not piping hot) and half crunchy pita chips coated in zippy seasoning. The hommous was about average. It needed something - lemon, olive oil, salt, not sure. The fattoosh was amazing - huge portion, loads of crunchy veggies, perfectly tangy dressing. The chicken was white meat, small-ish portion, with a flavorful sauce. The rice was disappointing - bland and a bit gummy. My waitress was attentive, and I was visited by the manager (or maybe owner?) twice. $16 + tip for my dinner was not unreasonable, especially since I brought home more than half the hommous (with extra bread), chicken and rice. I would highly recommend the Fattoosh.

I do think Pita Cafe in birmingham is better than this place, but this is the best food I have found downriver so far. I want to give it 3.5-3.75 stars, but yelp doesn't like fractions. The hummus is awesome. The bread is fresh. I absolutely loved the vegetable ghallaba and was very impressed with that. I usually order the shish tawook but I had a vegetarian moment that lasted for about a month. At least I discovered something new and delicious. Last time I came here I did have the shish tawook entree which was pretty good. My friend thought it tasted like marijuana chicken. I thought it tasted smoky but not in a stoned bird kind of way. The quality of the meat was good but I've had better. The garlic sauce needs a little tweaking. It doesn't do it for me--a bit too garlicky and missing that X-factor. I could skip it altogether which is something you would never hear from me at Pita Cafe (where the garlic sauce is a 10 out of 10). My service here was fantastic the first time and good the second time, which is an added bonus. I was still eating after closing time the first time I came here but my waittress didn't show the slightest bit of irritation and hooked me up with a bunch of pita bread etc to take home with my leftovers. I left her a fat tip because she was mad nice and helpful even though I was THAT customer.

the food is excellent, but i always walk away feeling cheated. whether i ask for extra garlic and dont get it. order some baklava convieniently place by the register and get charged 2 bucks for something smaller than a quater. i always leave feeling like i was slapped in the face. and how come i order the same exact meal at the one on fort street as the one on allen and its 3 bucks more. if the food wasnt good i would never go in. but i want to scream at the guy on the register everytime.

My wife and I frequent this place often, the Woodhaven area doesn't offer an extensive selection of restaurants, but Shish Garden is a very nice place to eat. The wait staff is always pleasant and prompt. The food looks tastes and smells fresh and is served quickly. The environment is inviting and ok for children. The garlic paste is amazing.

Ordered as carry-out. First of all the portion sizes are huge! I ordered the beef kabob with rice, side salad and a small order of hummus with pita. It came with garlic sauce too. Beef Kabob: ordered it medium (never had an arabic place even ask how I wanted my kabob cooked) and it was cooked to perfection! The meat was well marinated, seasoned beautifully and the perfect medium. It was super tender and so flavorful! The veggies were super fresh and perfectly cooked/seasoned. Rice: Was cooked well and slices almonds added a nice crunch. Enough in there for 2-3 servings. I saved my left over rice and ate it with the hummus/garlic spread the next for lunch. Was great! Salad: This thing was enough to feed 4 as a side salad. Well dressed and tomatoes/cucumbers were ripe and a nice addition. Hummus/Pita/Garlic spead: All delicious. Hummus had just enough garlic and super smooth. Will definitely order them again. Overall I was super happy with my first experience there and will definitely be a return customer. Everyone there was friendly and the service was quick. Food was delicious, plentiful and perfectly seasoned/cooked! The only drawback is that it is pricey, but like I said one order was more than enough food for two!

Mediterranean cuisine is a recent love of mine. So, when the opportunity to try Shish Garden arose, I took it. Located on Allen road, just north of West road the building is visible and easily accessible from the road. The parking lot is ample and well-maintained. When you step through the door you will be in a very small lobby area, but don't worry. They seat you quickly, even during their busier times. You will have a few moments after your bread and garlic arrives to peruse the menu and take in the decor before your server arrives to take your order. And let's talk about the bread, shall we? My husband states that it is amazing--freshly baked and plentiful. It comes to your table without even having to ask for it (my husband states that this is one of his favorite things about Shish Garden). Their garlic is a bit less smooth in flavor than other Mediterranean restaurants in the area. A bit edgy on the tongue, but still delicious. Now, the menu. It is large with numerous choices for all appetites. They do have a kids menu, and quite a wide variety of vegetarian fare. Today, I had a small order of hummus from the array of delicious appetizers and it was amazing. Smooth and velvety textured and it tastes exactly the way hummus should taste. I also had a small fattoush salad which was fresh, crisp, chilled and had just the right amount of house-made dressing on it. The other side of the table brought his appetite with him and ordered the meat pies from the appetizer menu. They arrived hot, filled with lamb surrounded by fresh baked bread. As the appetizers were consumed the remainder of the meal came out. Shrimp ghallaba with rice and veggies. We were a bit disappointed with this dish, as the menu said it came with sauteed veggies, but the only veggie on the plate were mushrooms--a LOT of mushrooms. The shrimp was excellent, though. The rice was a bit bland but took on the flavor of the seasonings of the shrimp. We both had iced tea and refills were quick in coming. The service at Shish Garden is excellent. The servers are polite, quick to explain the details of unfamiliar food on the menu. Most entrees come with rice or fries and don't forget to check out the dessert menu. That is, if you have room after dinner. We will definitely be back to Shish Garden. The dining room is large and will have plenty of room for your large group. There are several American dishes on the menu for those who are not fans of Mediterranean food. The atmosphere is quiet and a touch reserved. You will enjoy the experience.

I do not like the flavor of their food. The tabbouleh is very minty with no bulgar. The ganoosh, was okay, my husband and mother in law liked their shwarma but my one daughter salad was awful. I couldn't tell if it was lamb or chicken. My youngest daughter's kids meal was freezer burnt. (I do realize chicken nuggets aren't their specialtybut, it was bad.

Being a native of Dearborn, I know good Lebanese food. the food at Shish Garden is some of the best. The owner is always front and center working alongside his employees ensuring a great experience. I go in a couple times a week before work for a "cobra". It is one of the best raw juice drinks I have ever had. The raw kibbie and the hummus is excellent too. Five stars!

This restaurant is ok. It is very nice inside and the service is good. Went there when they first opened. Our food was cold and the Shwarma sandwiches were not that great. Tried it again last night and got carry out. My boyfriend got the lamb schwarma and the meat was all burned and tough and my food didn't have too much taste to it. I like the Shwarma much better at other restaurants.

As a frequent diner of Middle Eastern food, I find Shish Garden's food to be somewhat inconsistent. My husband loves the Kiddie Neya (raw kiddibe) and it has not been very good the past 3 times we have been at this restaurant. I don't know if they are using beef rather than lamb to make it or what the problem is, but the color and consistency is not what we are used to - and my husband was raised on this food; so he knows the good from the not so good. The salads and hummous are okay.

This is our local treasure. The juice bar is excellent.... With the BEST tangy lemonade you'll ever taste! The lentil soup is a FAV, too. I buy the Tabbouli salad & add 1 can of organic tri beans, a can of diced tomatoes... And we love it as a healthy dip with pita or veggies. The garlic dip sauce is missing something?? Service is always good, too.

Carry-Out Review: I was initially nervous about getting Mediterranean food Downriver but I had a taste for some garlic and powerful herb infused cuisine so I ventured around the corner to Shish Garden. I should have trusted my instincts and/or driven the extra 20 minutes to Dearborn because I was sorely disappointed in everything I ordered (except the hummus, but honestly, how do you mess up hummus??) To start, I opened up my hummus and pita bread. Unlike the warm poofs available in restaurant, I received a few packs of cold, flat pita bread. Meh. I was surprised to have not received any pickled beets with our order... I slathered up a pita triangle with hummus and garlic paste. The hummus was decent but the garlic paste didn't pack enough garlic flavor and therefore tasted a bit oily. My small Fattoush salad was quite large but that became redundant once I started eating it. The pita chips were super soggy and had zero crunch which was my primary complaint but as I ate, I noticed the entire salad was entirely soggy. The lettuce was limp and the tomatoes lacked any texture. Womp. Moving onto my Chicken Schwarma Sandwich... It looked standard and packed the standard ingredients but the chicken meat looked quite dark to me. Most Chicken Schawarma Sandwiches seemed to have much whiter meat and the taste and color of the chicken in my Shish Garden sandwich completely turned me off as I am pretty particular about chicken. That being said, I only ate three bites before I found myself tossing the sandwich and going back to my hummus and tough pita bread.

This is my first time coming and maybe my last :(. I had a pick up order for a spinach fattoush salad and 2 sides of garlic. I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered something that was simple and vegetarian. This was my first time coming here. The staff was friendly which is why I gave 2 stars. I came home and to my dismay the salad was not dressed with dressing. The dressing was in a cup on the side. Unlike Al Ameer's spinach salad that comes with the perfect amount of delicious dressing. I ordered the fattoush spinach salad because the guy on the phone said it was crunchier with pita chips. Why not? Well it looked like dried pita bread maybe not even a whole piece scrunched up on the salad :( I got my small bowl and added the fattoush dressing to my disappointment I used more than half of the dressing (I ordered a large and only 1 cup came). From the picture posted you can see it doesn't cover the salad that well EVEN when I added garlic. I thought adding the garlic would be better, NOT! The garlic was so greasy, thick, & heavy I honestly couldn't finish my small bowl. It was so dry with globs of this thick greasy paste. Very disappointed not every place has good salads but I expected way more for a middle eastern restaurants salad that has 4 stars. I don't think these people have tried real Arabic food. Then again I live in Woodhaven not much was here when I moved in, in early 2000. This is exactly why I drive 16 miles to Dearborn just to get a spinach salad and garlic!

Every time I've been in the owner and staff are all very welcoming! Special orders, no problem - the hummus topped chicken pita, tabouli salad YUM ... The bread and garlic sauce were good too. Top it off with great service and a smoothie ... a little expensive comparative with others but its convienent and welcoming.

Pretty good? Not the best middle eastern food, but I patronize because of convenience. However, I did not care @ all for their shawarma. It was dry & lacking in spice. Service was pretty good.

Go to Shish Palace in Allen Park. That is all I really have to say. The food lacks flavor and the salad was drenched in a dressing that took away from what could have been a flavorful meal. Very bad service as well, and to top it my girlfriend got sick from eating this proposed "Mediterranean" food.

I stopped into this place yesterday after driving past it for a little while. Overall, I was very disappointed unfortunately, won't be going back unless something changes, and will not promote for others to try. The place was nice as well as people and seemed like that take part with the community and charities. The salad and dressing was good, but that was about it. Actually, now that I think about it, they got part of the order wrong with hummus and no rice which I asked for. The price was VERY high and 50-100% more than a typical arab restaurant in the area. A small Fattoush was $4.99 (ok), but tawook dinner was $20.99 (typically 9.99 to 11.99) and way overpriced, especially with the poor quality. The hummus was ok, but seemed like they used sour cream in it and I unlike usual hummus experience, could not finish it and only about half and did not care for it. The Tawook was POOR. Tawook is usually breast and should be WHITE. It was dark, all of it and dry and not a lot of flavor. The bread was fine, but not freshly made pita.

Not the best not the worst. We order this when we want to eat fast but not fast food. If you want more white meat, order taouk instead of shawarma. I give up on ordering salads here. The lettuce is never crisp and soggy lettuce makes me gag.

The flavor of both the Tabouli/Tabbouleh and lamb grapes leaves are the best. It has just the right amount of herbs and lemon juice to perfect the taste.

I had lunch allllllll ALONE here. I rarely do that but I was starving and needed a bite. I ordered way more than I should have but if you see the previous sentence about STARVING you'll understand. I ordered the lamb chili and an appetizer of hummus and lamb. I realize that doesn't sound bad but they brought me out this giant plate of warm fresh bread, crispy fried bread, and that freaking delicious garlic spread. I had half the plate gone when they brought my chili out like two SECONDs LATER. I started spreading the garlic on my bread and dipping it in the chili. OMG!!! When my hummus and lamb came out I was already stuffed but still managed to push about half of it down my throat. I took what was left of my plate home and reeked of garlic for the remainder of the day. What it worth it? YOU BET IT WAS WORTH IT! I'm actually drooling on my keyboard thinking about this place.

I eat middle eastern cuisine frequently enough. No, I am not middle eastern. I must say I like this place off the Dearborn track. It has all my tasty essentials, and good quantity, & service to boot. I must also disagree with one very negative comment from someone almost 30 minutes drive from North of the downriver area. While they do give out the cold pita breads with takeout sometimes, they are generous with their hot breads & garlic, served complimentary if you dine in or takeout. Recently, I moved 300 miles South of the downriver area, but return frequently to visit. Each time I try to make a quick visit to stock up on their garlic paste & bread... And I am never disappointed. Rest is up to your own interpretations.
