I like it. We come here occasionally with my parents and all of us enjoy the food. I really like the mac and cheese. As a group, we have ordered a variety of things and not been disappointed. We were there for lunch yesterday and my husband and father both ordered the fried bologna sandwich and were very pleased. I had a pressed pork sandwich and it was very good also, but I was a little envious of those in our group who ordered the french onion soup - it looked phenomenal. All the sandwiches came with (I am guessing) house made salt and pepper potato chips. Yum!! The beer menu is excellent - lots of local and craft beer. We were too full for dessert, but when we come for dinner we usually split dessert and it is always delicious. Service can be a little slow, but it is good - my husband ordered a spicy Bloody Mary and they were out of Tabasco. So, they sent someone out to pick up a bottle rather than tell him they couldn't provide the drink. The Bloody Mary arrived exactly as ordered. The restaurant has a nice buzz at dinner. We arrived about 1:30 for lunch on a Saturday and it was about a third full. I would make reservations for dinner on a weekend. I have never been here during the week, so I'm not sure how full it gets. There is street parking in downtown Williamston and also a little parking lot to the side of the restaurant.

I've been to this place before, and was very impressed by the quality of cooking and service. However, we decided to go here for a celebration, and was extremely disappointed. We were seduced to go, b/c the appetizers were half off. Unfortunately, despite the long delay in getting the appetizers, the wait was not worth it. They tasted like they came from a kitchen in Applebees, not from a fine dining restaurant. The food lacked passion or sophistication in flavor. The chicken entree at least made up for it, but came with appetizers, despite asking for it separately. Though the waitress apologized for the mix up, in general the overall was very slow. What a disappointment! If they continue like this, I dont think they will last long.

Coming to Lansing weekly on business for many months, I've become accustomed to bar food & chains being the main dining choices. Until this week when I came across Red Cedar Grill. Ok, it's not exactly in Lansing, but a 15 minute drive that's well worth it - here's the lowdown. * Calamari Friti - nicely presented appetizer of perfectly cooked filets, very appealing & flavorful. * Wedge salad - the blue cheese dressing was yummy & in sufficient quantity to please even me! * Roasted Brussels Sprouts - I love these little flavor-filled mini cabbage gems. I even cook them at home & must say their rendition was as good as I've ever had. * Black & Blue New York Strip - ordered medium rare but served done+, normally I would have sent it back but it was getting close to closing time so I "suffered" through. It was way dry & overcooked for what I ordered, but interestingly enough was still quite flavorful. I'll come again & see if they can cook to my order. * Carrot Cake - OMG, a wickedly tasty rendition of granny's stand-by that was amazing. Thank goodness it was big enough to feed 4, so I still have leftovers! The staff was friendly & their service attentive. Other than the overcooked steak, the experience was surprisingly good. This place would do well in my hometown of Denver, so they should thrive in culinary challenged Mid-Michigan!

Great atmostphere, creative menu, skilled prepartion and fantastic, bold tastes, and wonderful attentative service. I've been here twice and both times every meal served to each person in my party was perfect. I have nothing seriously bad to say about Red Cedar Grill except that the location is kind of a bummer... Williamston? Who has any business in Williamston, other than just to eat here? Red Cedar should be a serious contender for those celebrating, or looking for a romantic, classy dinner. Oh - and try the gumbo. Although it doesn't taste like authentic southern cooking, it's a different approach and I love/crave the stuff here. Tip: The ribeye seems to be the least-liked dish here... my father-in-law to be was served an overly fatty portion, and a friend who ordered on a separate occasion stated she'd had decidedly better. But don't worry - any other beef alternative at RCG is a sure bet.

The Red Cedar Grill is my favorite "special occasion" place in the Lansing area. Not that it's too expensive, it's just a little out of the way from the greater Lansing area. But It's a great date place or a good spot for MSU students to take their parents when they come to visit. The ambiance is a step up from casual, although you're okay dressed in anything from jeans to a fancy dress. The lighting is soft and the atmosphere is relatively quiet, even when it's busy. Which is nice, you can hear each other at your table! They do take reservations, which I'd recommend for special occasions such as graduation or valentine's day. The menu offers a little bit of everything ranging from burgers to sandwiches to mexican to pasta to "American" meat-style dishes . Check the website, menus are listed. On my most recent visit our table was in a no-man's land... the hostess hadn't communicated to the server that we were assigned to their section. After a bit of a wait I approached the manager who was extremely apologetic and responsive. He immediately sent over a complimentary appetizer for our table. This experience was a fluke; traditionally the service has been very good. The food is generally good. I'd recommend the French onion soup, served with melted cheese. Yum! The Bruschetta left something to be desired; the bread was a little too hard and the topping didn't have enough pizazz to be something I'd order again. Overall I've been pretty pleased with the entree selection. There are also several vegetarian options, which makes me happy. The Quesadillas with veggies were a good choice. The Ravioli Florentine is a good dish, I just wish the portion size were bigger. It's not often that I'm personally able to finish my entree in a restaurant, but I can polish off that one in a single sitting. BOTTOM LINE: Head to the Red Cedar Grill for a leisurely evening away from the Lansing area. Good food, a nice atmosphere and reasonable prices make this a great find for special occasions... or just a random weekend!

Surprisingly good for this market. Our visit to the Red Cedar Grill exceeded our expectations for a mid-priced restaurant, especially in this market in small-town MI. The food preparation, service, and atmosphere were all high-quality. The menu is varied and offered something for everyone, although vegetarian selections were hard to come by. The wine by the glas selection is large, moderately priced, and of good quality. My cocktail was well-prepared and just the right size. Because the menu selections and preaparations were somewhat uninspired, RCG would merit only four stars in a larger market, but in this area you can't do much better at any price.

I didn't expect to find delicious Americana in little Williamston, but lo and behold, it is there! Look no farther than Red Cedar Grill. My boyfriend and I discovered Red Cedar Grill thanks to its recent Groupon and went for dinner on a Saturday night. It's a nice, classy restaurant near the end of what I gather to be Williamston's downtown. For entrees, he ordered bacon-wrapped filet mignon from their specials, and I ordered the Red Cedar salmon off their regular dinner menu. You can really do no wrong with bacon-wrapped anything, but I tried a bite of it and bacon-wrapped steak might be just be heaven on a plate. My salmon was also really well cooked and the glaze was awesome, though I felt they were a little skimpy on the vegetables (three spears of asparagus does not a side make). Between those and the awesome skillet polenta we split as an appetizer, however, we both left feeling really satisfied. The only downside is that it's definitely a little pricey for Michigan. Without the Groupon, two drinks, an appetizer, two entrees, and no dessert would have come to $80, including tax and tip... oof. While my belly enjoyed the experience, my wallet thinks that a repeat trip is unlikely (sorry, belly). But if you're looking for a special occasion restaurant, Red Cedar is worth considering.

We had a Groupon to redeem and it was a nice evening to take a drive so off we went to Williamston. Restaurant is located downtown and a 'cool car' evening was going on so that made a nice diversion after our meal. The restaurant is nice. The menu has a very diverse selection of food, it's a bit on the pricey side so I wouldn't imagine that I would come here on a whim. We got the spicy thai satay appetizer which had a very nice presentation. It was served with 4 kabobs of checken and plenty of tasty sauce. My husband ordered the clam chowder which he said was great and he's fussy about his chowder. Every table gets bread unfortunately we both declared that it was a disappointment, barely warm and no flavor. We actually didn't eat one of the rolls and that is out of character for us. I ordered the chop chop salad for my entree. It looked nice and tasted good. It was a good ratio of all ingredients though the citrus dressing wasn't my favorite. My husband ordered the chicken marsala which he said was good, a little more marsala sause would have been nice. He said the vegetables that were served with it were very good. Overall we enjoyed the dinner, the service was very good, the groupon was effective since it's a restaurant we probably would not have tried otherwise. I would recommend it to friends for a nice dinner out.

A servicable "Fine Dining" restaurant. Service is always good, a nice beer/wine list. The ambiance is nice. The food is good, but not cutting edge. It was probably at the top of it's game 5-10 years ago, though now it could be updated a bit. I will still go here when I'm looking for a nice quiet dinner in Williamston though.
(4)Ellen W.
Living in Williamston, RCG is our go-to spot for dinner out but we wish they would change up their menu now and then. If they did, we would eat there more often. It seems as though it hasn't changed in years.
(2)Liz C.
The menu is sophisticated but not pretentious and well executed. We didn't wait at all for a table and our food came promptly. I had the yaya gumbo which was excellent as well as the black and blue salad. My steak was cooked perfectly. The server was very knowledgable and was courtious and prompt without hovering. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience and I will plan on going back.
(5)Andrew M.
Great food for the price. The small town feel of downtown Williamston is a nice change of pace from most nice Lansing area restaurants. I've made multiple trips for special occasions, they accommodate both groups small and large with outstanding service. Be sure to order the goat cheese appetizer.
(5)Jennifer S.
One of the nicer places I've been to in the area. I had the asiago crusted white fish. Could have been more flavorful, but I thought it was pretty good. The other people I was with really seemed to enjoy their food. Would definitely go back.

Having heard about this restaurant for years, I was excited when we decided to stop in on our way home from a recent MSU game. To say I was underwhelmed may be overstating it. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, the service was mediocre at best. Upon being seated we were offered water but no other beverages. We had to flag our server down to place our drink orders. Our server never came back by to see how the drinks were and/or to see if anyone needed refills. Again, we had to flag the server down for this. Same behavior with our food. After delivering appetizers, no return to ask if they met our expectations and to see if we needed anything else. Our server did not remember who ordered which dish when our entrees were delivered and again, no follow up. The food was adequate; certainly did not live up to the reputation. And we did not order anything exotic: soups, salads and mac 'n cheese. These should have been better than that. And when it came time to ring the bill, our server asked if we wanted it split by couples to which we replied yes, and had to be asked again who had what so the bills could be separated accurately. With all the choices available for good meals, we won't be returning.

Nice place, had good service. My steak sandwich was very thin and over-cooked.
(3)Ramona S.
be prepared to break you wallet here..very high priced for the amount of food you get on you plate..although was good food..

When we want a nice dinner, the Red Cedar Grill is a perfect choice. The waitstaff is efficient, and unfailingly pleasant, and the food is great. We have tried most of their entrees and sandwiches, as well and have always been pleased. The cedar-planked salmon is a particular favorite, but everything on the menu is very, very good.

Based on the reviews, I was expecting more, so perhaps I went on an off night. DH took me to RCG for my birthday. The atmosphere is quite nice and the servers very friendly. The food, however, failed on several levels. We started with the calamari. Mostly well cooked but perhaps a tad greasy served with great heaping amounts of this bland mayo based dipping sauce. Supposedly there was lime in the aoili but we couldn't taste any. There was a bit of a gap between the appetizer and entree. So much so that we were about to ask if we had been forgotten. I ordered the ribeye, which I believe the cook completely forgot to season - I mean it lacked even salt. I ordered it medium rare and I'd say it was barely rare. Both DH and I had asparagus and sweet potatoes as sides. Sweet potatoes were fabulous but the asparagus were awful - overcooked and mushy at the tip and tough and woody at the other end (someone forgot to trim the ends). DH's drunken salmon was pretty good - though could have used a bit of heat to offset the sweet. I would not go back or recommend it to others. The only things saving this from a one star review is the atmosphere and servers which were excellent.

it's so cute when you show up with a bottle of wine and the hostess and the waitress both have no idea what to do with it. they had to grab their manager to see what the corkage was, and settled on a $15 fee, which seems a tad high for a place with no crystal stemware. the restaurant is a cozy little place (upscale for the area) and they have great natural beef - no hormones or antibiotics - for their steaks and burgers. we had the baked garlic and bread appetizer which was done very well - garlic was nice and soft, and not burnt which kills it instant for me. the steaks were excellent, but the babyback ribs could have been a lot softer. this place and dusty's cellar is our two favorite restaurants in the area :)
(4)Hannah H.
I can honestly say that I think the food is better here than Dusty's (albeit, their menus are very similar - especially at lunch). What I keep coming back here is for their burger - juicy, cooked to perfection plus they have smoked gouda and avocado to add on top! If you plan on ordering a salad as a starter, you should be aware that they are HUGE and should be ordered as either a half order or to share with someone else. Prices are great at lunch - my husband and I shared a salad and had two individual main courses with soft drinks and it came out to under $35! I also like the fact that although casual in atmosphere, it still feels formal enough to have birthday dinner or other special occasion sort of events.
(4)Cristina S.
Considering the fact this is the nicest restaurant I've liked in MI, this is BIG DEAL. They have an expansive menu of lots of American food; it feels as if you should skip dinner & just have one of every appetizer instead! The roasted garlic platter, as previously mentioned, is great! We shared a Kansas City Strip (b.c we did in fact eat a million appetizers) which was cooked well. I'm not sure what was under the strip, I thought there would be potatoes, but it wasn't that good. The upside-down apple dessert was hands down AWESOME. The only things I had an issue w. were the chocolate martini (not good), their V-day menu (which they were out of by 6pm), & the service being a bit slow (again, it's V-day, be prepared people!). Other than that, I can say we'll frequent it again for a special MI moment =)

This is an excellent place for dinner. The food tastes great, the environment is excellent, and the service is usually very good. I have been to this location on several occasions for dinner and I have never left disappointed. It has a slight fine dining feel without the heavy fine dining price tag. On my most recent trip I had the ribs. The sauce is unique and tangy. The meat was cooked properly. It was tender and came off the bone easily. I am very particular when it comes to ribs, and these are good. This time I did not get desert, but my wife got the carrot cake. She had ordered this in the past so she was prepared for it. They bring you what appears to be about 1/4 of an entire cake. It has nearly an inch of frosting on the top of it. You will not eat it in one sitting by yourself without regretting it. This is a nice small town place with a more upscale menu. The pricing is great. You would pay a similar amount at a chain and not get near the quality of food. Parking is limited in the lot, but there are usually spots on the street open. The bar is nice and has a pretty good selection of scotch. They also have a pretty good wine selection.
(4)Suzy Q.
Discovered this wonderful little gem through a groupon. For the indecisive eater, this place offers a wide variety of options. I had the Chicken Piccata with the lemon sauce - which was fabulous! My husband had the House Sirloin which was great (except a little pricey). We came back a second time and our experience wasn't as good as the first time. They put down the wrong reservation time (we had a party of 8 people) and had to wait awhile until a table opened up. Then I ordered the ravioli (ehhh....I wasn't crazy about it). Overall, I would go back! Check out the downtown area while you're here, it's really cute.
(4)Erin H.
Wow, when my boyfriend and I headed out for a weekend road trip we didn't expect to find such a good restaurant right out of the gate! Williamston was a cute little town and this restaurant was amazing. The service was excellent and the decor and menu are great. The bread rolls were tasty and they brew great ice tea. I had a calamari pasta dish and my boyfriend had fish. Both were tasty!
(3)Beth H.
Absolutely delish! My hubby's filet mignon was cooked perfectly well done while my sirloin was perfectly medium rare. My favorite drink was the pumpkin-Tini- caramel vodka with pumpkin pie spice which smelled and tasted like butterscotch. I can't wait to go back!

While all the trendy people are packing into Tavern 109 across the street, this little gem of a restaurant is being ignored through no fault of their own. That is not to say the aforementioned restaurant is not deserving of the attention, it is, but so is Red Cedar Grill. I have been to Red Cedar Grill over a dozen times and I don't think I have ever been disappointed. The service is always impeccable, very attentive and helpful, without being overbearing or aloof. The food is both familiar and unique if that makes sense. They have taken classic items and given them a little twist. Prices are reasonable, but they are lacking a selection of 10-15$ offerings that many might seek. On our recent visit I combined the Carnitas and Johnny Cakes appetizer with the Chopped Apple salad. Both items came to the table looking fantastic. the salad was huge, and frankly the app was pretty large as well. The pork was well seasoned and piled high on the cakes. Very delicious and could easily be paired with a soup or salad to make a hearty meal. My wife ordered the Drunken Salmon. The waitress mentioned that this was her favorite dish on the menu and I can see why. The salmon was cooked well and had such wonderful flavor. The marinade was really drawn into the fish, so that every bite had a consistent taste. to sum up, great food and service, less crowded than some others in town, and a short walk from the ice cream shop.

We popped in here for lunch on our way to Detroit from Grand Rapids based on the reviews from fellow Yelpers. The reviews were spot on. Service was quick and attentive. We explained that we had to catch a flight and wanted to eat quickly and to give us a heads up if anything we ordering would take a while. Our order was on the table in less than 10 minutes. My BF had tomato soup and Mac & Cheese. The tomato soup was from scratch and good. The Mac and Cheese was OK, and had sliced chicken on top. I had an apple and blue cheese salad. It was a little overdressed but was tasty. The pomegranate seeds were a nice touch. I liked the carnitas and Johnnycakes less. The carnitas were bland and there was a hair in my plate that wasn't mine or my servers (we are both blonds). The restaurant is bright and airy, and the waitress was great.
(4)Charli S.
Wonderful, unique and fully flavorful, but pricey. Beautiful atmosphere... Only one tv at the bar:)
(5)Rick L.
RCG is one of our local favorites. For awhile it had a problem with maintaining quality but it is back (under new management?) with a vengeance. I almost always start with the crayfish/corn chowder which is a great hearty starter with consistently terrific flavor. Last time had a red snapper special which had a risotto side. The snapper was well-prepared with a flavorful sauce with capers (not my favorite thing but imparts a nice flavor regardless)...an outstanding meal which would make a worthy addition to their permanent menu. For the best possible experience, request table 10 (a booth) and Trish.
(4)Fox M.
Service was so welcoming and warm. Looking fancy from outside, was not sure how my welcome would be sense I came in with a red wings Jersey on, was comfortable from the min I walked in. The menu will bring me back even thought it's a HR drive. Beer on tap was super fresh, very important to me! The burger was basic but good, fry's were great, and butterscotch pudding a MUST!
(5)Dominique K.
Two words--Carrot Cake! Red Cedar's offering, billed as Awesome Carrot Cake on the menu, is one of the primary reasons that I love this place. The cake is moist and chock full of grated carrots and golden raisins and topped with a thick layer of buttercream frosting...and one piece is -more- than enough for two people to share. We usually order a "slab o' cake" to take home (yup, that's what we tell the servers we want), and I've even stopped by to simply pick up a piece of it to go even if we're not staying for dinner. I love the carrot cake so much that I even blogged about the darn thing (seriously...with a picture of the "piece" of cake we brought home) midwestguest.com/2009/04… I can't believe I've yet to review this place as it's one of our favorite stops whenever we travel out towards the west side of the state (just stopped there for dinner on the way back from Grand Rapids this past weekend). So, other than the awesome carrot cake, what does this place have to offer? I'd characterize it as upscale comfort food featuring choices like pot roast, pork chops, meatloaf and, my favorite, macaroni and cheese with panko-crusted chicken. We invariably have left overs to take home along with our slab o' cake as the portions are large and it's difficult to resist the appetizers (we love the calamari, gumbo and, one we just tried this last time, deviled eggs with cheese and bacon). There are always a few regional beers on tap, which is usually what I order to drink here. It's a nice place for a quiet and romantic dinner...or just a nice way to begin the on-the-way-home wind-down from traveling. Oh...and did I mention the Carrot Cake???
(4)Janna L.
As an MSU college student, this was a a great restaurant with excellent food. A break from the usual elegant Asian, Mexican and Mediterranean restaurants, followed by American chains on campus, the Red Cedar Grill carries a unique feel. The atmosphere was cozy, with American decor and darkened lighting; however, it was a bit chilly and I was forced to keep my jacket on. Also, the service was terrible and the waitress was rude. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I'm not sure I would eat here again since It can be pricey, however it can be recommended for large occasions.
(4)Beth J.
One of the few top notch restaurants in the area. We go here with my parents when they visit. We've always had a good meal. They are now open for lunch--but I don't know that anyone knows this. It was nearly empty when we last went on a Saturday. Good service, good food. Prices are in line with other similar establishments.
(5)Katrina C.
While in town visiting family, we decided to make a reservation here for a late Mother's Day dinner (it's rare the whole family is together). So, we made a reservation for Monday at 6 p.m. for 9 people. The restaurant was pretty empty, but I wasn't really surprised seeing as it was Monday night in a smaller town. They courteously set us in the back of the restaurant, where we would not bother the few other diners. I was very, very impressed with our waitress - she worked very hard the whole meal. While ordering beers, she came out with samples for anyone who wanted one before making a decision on what to order. She provided suggestions on dishes that we might enjoy, was knowledgeable about the menu, and cleared dishes quickly. My dad ordered soup and wanted my sister to sample it, so the waitress brought out an extra small serving. Really want to commend her for everything she did. Anyway, onto the food! I'm so glad I was here with a large party who was willing to share, because I had the opportunity to try a lot! We started with the mexican poutine, which was super tasty. Crisp sweet potato fries covered in mole sauce, queso fresco, chiles, and something else. I also sampled some of the gumbo that my dad ordered. It was a filling dishes, well seasoned and brought out at the perfect temperature. For my main course, I actually ordered an appetizer - the carnitas and johnny cakes. I have mixed feelings about these. The toppings were seriously delicious - the pork melted in my mouth and had great seasoning, and I loved the queso fresco and creme fraiche. However, the johnny cakes were very dense and bland. Not my favorite. I also ended up sampling my dads sweet potatoes (hes a good sharer). Very tasty. I'm not going to list what everyone else ordered, but everyone was enjoying their dishes. For dessert, we had to try the carrot cake based on all of the reviews. OMG. Was not expecting an entire slab of cake. It wasn't a slice, it was a rectangle shaped about 10 inches wide and 5 inches across. It was ginormous. There was enough for about 6 people at our table. It was pretty good, but a little over hyped, I think. The cream cheese frosting was very rich. Overall, a nice place to go for a sit down dinner in town. They have a wide variety of dishes and exemplary service.

Good way to start the pre game events today, very good, nice atmosphere, we will definitely be back!

Came here while visiting family in Michigan. Everything was yummy. The creole crawfish and corn chowder was amazing! Had the monte Cristo and hubby Had the pulled pork cranberry sandwich. Aunt had the carrot cake pancakes. Everything was amazing!! Service was great and fast!

Best dinner spot in Williamston. We were just there on Thursday night and the food was delicious, the drinks were great, and the service was attentive without over doing it. Everything about our dinner was enjoyable. Thank you.

I understand that Red Cedar is under new ownership now, and we decided to try it again to see if it was still good. We used to go there for special occasions and date nights now and then and always had a lovely experience. The ambiance remains... a comfortable and chic atmosphere, which can be romantic or simply warm. The service was excellent on our recent visit. Our dinners were mediocre, however. I ordered the mac and cheese, which comes with a very small piece of panko-crusted chicken breast on top. My date ordered the pot roast, which was always his favorite dish at Red Cedar with the previous owners. Neither of us were impressed. The food tasted fine but nothing special. There was a noticeable difference from the last time we ate at Red Cedar. We had a gift certificate to use up so we both ordered dessert. I wanted DESPERATELY to try the carrot cake that everyone raves about. But when I saw the size of the $9.00 serving (looks like a whole cake!) and asked if I could just get a single serving instead, I was told that I could not. The server urged me to just take the rest home, but my son is allergic to nuts and I can't bring a walnut filled cake home. I was very disappointed that there wasn't a smaller piece option. However, I ordered a chocolate cake skillet instead, which was supposed to come with a scoop of coffee ice cream on top and the server was nice enough to let me substitute vanilla instead. It was delicious! More brownie than cake. Took awhile to get, but it was really tasty. My date ordered the berry cobbler, which also came with a scoop of vanilla. It, too, was delicious. Each one would have been good for sharing, but wasn't too much for one hungry, sweet-loving person either. With two entrees, two desserts, and one soda, our bill came to just over $50 with tax. In summary, I would go back for dessert, but probably not for dinner. I know that the menu changes seasonally, so perhaps there are better dinner options, but it's a bit of a drive for us for dinner, and at that price point I'd really like to be impressed with my meal, not just ok with it.
