Had another one last night. Bread is so light and fluffy. Just wish they had fries to go with it.

These are one of the best cheese steaks I've ever had. Though they use a basic bun, that does not take away from the great taste! Normally I am not a fan of peppers, but the optional peppers are amazing!

I had been to Gabriel's (original) Ypsilanti location several years ago, but when my office changed locations it was too long a drive for lunch. Recently I discovered they had opened a new location closer to me in Westland, and today I took the plunge. I have to say up front, I'm a cheese steak snob. I've spent enough time in Philly sampling the best and the not-so-best, and I know the makeup and execution of a "real" cheese steak. That being said, If I was reviewing Gabriel's in Philly it would only rate a 1.5 probably (1.25?). In Michigan however, it not all that bad considering the competition (I'd actually give it a 2.5 if I could). The meat is spatula chopped as it should be, with good consistency, but lacking in any kind of flavor. Suggestion: salt and pepper, at least lightly. The people coming in to eat a cheese steak are not overly concerned with coronary health. I had the wit' + shrooms. That means onions + mushrooms. The mushrooms were the garden variety canned type, and could have spent a minute or two more on the grill. The bun was pretty much a standard soft side sub bun, basically an over-sized hot dog bun. It was easy to eat, but provided no contrasting texture to the sandwich. The cheese was, dare I say it...American Cheese!!!! Where's the Whiz???? That's a key component there! The menu is spartan, which if you're doing things right is the way to go. Service was Very friendly, and the place was neat and tidy. My sandwich was done and ready to go in less than 2 minutes. The cost is about average, but maybe a little on the high side. I'd suggest they offer some type of sides, which they currently don't. I might be back, hard to say, but the search continues!

Been going to Gabriel's either in Westland or Ypsilanti as long as I can remember and this place is truly as good as it gets. Good steak, good cheese, good prices and the best part of this place is the bun. I have yet to find a steak hoagie place in Michigan that has a better bun than Gabriels. Only downside is that the size is a tad on the small side so when I go with friends, we usually get an extra hoagie to split. This place is a must visit if you claim to love cheesesteaks

I had another cheese steak with mushrooms today and it was delicious. I really like the pepper relish they will add to spice it up a little. They still don't have a real big selection, but what they do, they do well. Still 4 stars and I'll be back...

My brother has been eating cheesesteak hoagies around town for ages. For Gabriel's he has had them at both locations. For his birthday lunch was on me, and he chose Gabriel's Cheesesteak Hoagies. That right there should have told me this was gunna be good. I let him order, and I paid. I browsed the menu, which only took about 3.8 seconds. Cold cut or cheesesteak, mushrooms, onions, peppers, salad, chips, and drink as the choices. Out came a cold cut, and a cheesesteak hoagie. Woah these puppies looked like beasts for five bucks + change. I first noticed the healthy topping of peppers on the cheesesteak hoagie. Didn't know that was coming, bonus! I bit into the cold cut first. It was a nice bite. Touch of Italian dressing on there. The first thing I really noticed was how soft the bun was. I demolished my cold cut in a fit of rage to reach the reason we had come to Gabriel's. The cheesesteak! Where was the cheese? Oh man it was already melted into this messy goo middle. Utter rage ensued. I twist, turned, and contorted this puppy to get it into my mouth. Pushing the healthy load of peppers a top it down into the sammich. Yum! This was so simple, is was bliss. Soft bun, tender tender steak, gooey cheese, peppers with heat, and a touch of win. Satisfied? Yes Sir!

Pretty damn good. I like the "Keep It Simple" approach to the place. One of my favorites in the area. Definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed!! The steak is delicious, the bread is awesome, and the cheese is tasty....I prefer a bit more on mine, but that's just me.

I have been here a couple of times. Their steak hoggies are o.k. The bun leaves something to be desired. Very cheap with bad texture. It was like eating air. Not an inexpensive place for lunch. Expect to pay about $35 plus for lunch for four people.

Good steak, nothing special about the rest of it. I've had cheese steaks from Geno's and Pat's and a few other places in the Philadelphia area so Gabriel's has some big shoes to fill. They're not bad but nothing stands out. I feel like I can make a trip to Kroger and make the same thing at home. Also, there's no trash cans to be found in the dining area. I guess that means you're just supposed to leave your trash on the table? I felt awkward doing that... mostly because I wasn't sure if that's what I was supposed to do, but also because it feels more like a McDonalds than a sit-down restaurant. Maybe put a sign up, "Leave your trash on your table, we'll clean it up!" LOL

Tasty, soft buns (give'm a squeeze), nice hot peppers (now that's a spicy pepper)

I originally used to have to go to Ypsilanti to get these and I work in Westland so I am estatic they have one in Westland now!! These are the absolute best anywhere and I wouldn't dare get them without the hot peppers!!

Possibly the WORST Cheese Steak I ever had. No flavor, meat seemed low grade. Bread was plain and not enough cheese. I would expect more from a place that claims they specialize in Cheese Steaks. Not to mention the small menu. Anyone who knows REAL cheese steaks should not go here.

My wife introduced me to Gabriel's in Ypsilanti a few years back, so when they opened a location less than 5 minutes away from our home, we were geeked. They have a small menu, consisting of Cheese Steak Hogies, Steak Hogies, lunchmeat subs, salad and soft drinks. Everything is priced just under $6. After being to the Westland location a few times, I can honestly say I think the Ypsi location is better. I don't know if it's what they cook on has been seasoned more or what? But in a quick pinch, this location is fine and does Gabriel's justice.

This place is very low end. I ordered the cheesesteak hoagie with mushrooms. The mushrooms were canned and had a strange taste to them. The bun is soggy and mushy. Not good. It was the texture of a hotdog bun. The cheese is not much more than cheez wiz, but it was the best part of the hoagie. Its flavor was not bad, but it needed more. They charged extra if you wanted more cheese. The meat was fairly generous, but I didn't care for the taste of it at all. Not sure what they do, but I didn't like it. I was at this place once before many years ago. I hadn't been back until today, and this is why. Low quality ingredients and lousy tasting food. If you want a better tasting "hoagie" which isn't called a hoagie, go to Jersey Mike's instead. The difference is like night and day.

This place is always consistently good. Always get the hot peppers on my cheese steak sub. Tastes amazing. Definitely my go to place when I'm in Westland.

As I walked in the lady behind the counter was very nice. They only have about 4 items on the menu. I got the cheese steak with mushrooms. The portion size was great for the price. The taste was ok. I added hot peppers first and should've tried it because the peppers are super hot and good but flavor was overpowering the sandwich. I was disappointed that the mushrooms were can. I was expecting fresh. Would I come back?????? Ummm maybe if I'm just craving a cheese steak but without mushrooms. I hate the fake stuff!

Cannot believe the bad reviews because Gabriel's is one of my favorites. Been going to this location for years. The staff are friendly and the cheesesteaks are always awesome. Soft buns, beef soaked in onion goodness and I always order mine with extra cheese. Drooling just thinking about it. Might have to go by tomorrow for dinner.

Man I will never go there again it was good dont get me wrong but after bout 2-3 hours my whole family was sick throwing up with diarrhea........so what that being said thats my 1st and last sub from there

We stumbled across this place pretty much right when they opened and were excited to find a local cheesesteak place because the Joey's Cheesesteak in Southgate is a hike... but alas, we did not like this place as much. Now maybe if we'd come here first, BJ (which actually stands for Before Joey's, perv), it might be a different story. The meat at Gabriel's is finer, almost the consistency of ground beef, and they don't have Whiz! They did have the spicy pepper relish that I'm addicted to, so that helped. Tiny menu. Go if you want a cheesesteak and some chips and a pop. No hamburger, salad, soup. Cheesesteak.

I'm a big fan of philly cheese steaks. And in my book it doesn't get much better than Gabriel's.

My first introduction to cheesesteaks was the original location on Michigan Avenue years ago, and I've been a fan ever since. Love that the Westland location is a bit closer to our home. Cheesesteaks, salads, hoagies, soda drinks and chips are the only items on the menu. The dining area is sparse, just tables and chairs. Order your cheesesteak with peppers, and if you don't like onions, tell them when you order. Pay about $5 for your cheesesteak, and a few minutes later, your cheesesteak is delivered to your table, steaming hot. Note: many people complain their order doesn't have cheese, it's under the meat. Years ago, they used to put the cheese on top, but it stuck to the paper wrapper for takeout orders. Now, you'll find the cheese under the steak. Not sure if Liz R. missed it on the menu, but yes, Gabriel's has salads. We order their tossed green salad every time we order cheesesteaks.

I come here at least 3 times a month. One hoagie will fill you up and if you drink water the prices are good. I get provolone cheese with onions and my friend adds mushrooms to hers she says "it's more fungus that way"

This is my regular place to eat. I have to go here every two weeks, sometimes every week. The put great flavor in the steak sandwich there. The steak sandwich has rich mild spice flavor to it. The deli sandwich is full of flavor and well worth the money. My wife loves the deli but me I am a steak and cheese guy. I brought my parent from Saginaw here and they love this place. I have to buy them sandwiches and ship them to them. This place came out of now and moved to Westland and developed and huge following and I am leading the pack of followers. This place is a must ry and you will see what the roar is all about.

Nice spot for an afternoon quick bite. $5 will fill you up. These cheesesteaks come out extremely HOT and fresh. Be back very soon.

Stopped in for a Cheesesteak and all I can say is WOW. If you like Cheesesteaks this is a must try place. 5 bucks for a footlong cheesesteak=Win

WE LOVE THEIR HOAGIES!!!! For one meal, just forget about cholesterol, your heart, and your weight and enjoy the splurge. Is this a 5 star restaurant? No, get real. It looks like my mom's kitchen, but that's not the point. It's a hoagy place, and they just don't get better--unless it's at the original place in Ypsi.
