I tend to be a nontraditionalist, and so restaurants like this one really don't turn me on. That said, these guys are the real deal for delivering a solid traditional Chinese Food restaurant experience. They've got it all down to a science. I'm guessing it's a second- and third-generation family joint, and they've done well for themselves serving the dishes all the Americans like, whatever that entails, from the Almond Chicken to the Chop Suey. They're not my cup of tea, but I did leave satisfied and my family happy on Christmas Eve. What more can I ask for, really?

Went out with the wife for a late dinner to a Westland hometown favorite, China Star. It was 10pm on a Friday night and once again, the hometown favorite came through. I had the General Chicken which was incredible, with pork fried rice and an awesome Eggroll. My wife had the Schuwan Chicken which too, was great. Great service, quick and decent priced!

I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. My friends and I actually had a small reunion her about 2 years back and we all loved the food and the service was top shelf. General sua chicken, Almond chicken, Sweat and sour chicken and the Egg roles are all amazing. Give th a try and you'll be glad you did.

This place is like that comfortable pair of sweat pants...you know the ones that have been around forever, that you wouldn't really want your friends to see you in because they are kind of outdated. But when you need something familiar and comfortable you really don't care. Yeah, that's how this place is for me. There's something about their almond chicken that is almost nostalgic. That's really all I get here. It's a huge portion so I usually split it with someone. Soup, egg roll, almond boneless chicken. And lots of exercise the next day. The staff is friendly in that I'm not going to let you know I can speak English sort of way. You always know what you're going to get, reliable, comforting. Yes definitely like your favorite pair of sweats.

My family and I have eaten here on several occasions. The food is good and reasonably priced but there is a huge difference in the food when it comes to dinning in and carry out. Our dinning in experience has always been top notch. Great service, way more food than you can possibly eat in one sitting and the quality is great. I got carry out from here last week, ordered General Tao Chicken dinner and sweet and sour chicken dinner. Usually enough to feed our whole family from two dinners, opened up the general chicken and we had 8 small chunks of chicken in it smothered in sauce. It looked like soup almost with mostly broth! Not pleased at all with our carry out experience from here, but a great place to go out to.

We continue to go for the Almond Chicken with Fried Rice and normally the Gai Kow as well. It's a great value for the money and it's always good quality with friendly service. We have tried many different items on the menu and been satisfied with any choice we have made. The only negative feedback after all the years is with the Crab Rangoon. We have only been ordering the Rangoon at Chinese Restaurants for the last few months after seeing it mentioned by fellow Yelpers and sadly, China Star's doesn't have a very good version. It seems to have a little too much onion flavor, not enough cream cheese and the plum sauce was not as sweet as others we have tried. Aside from that it is still out favorite Chinese Restaurant. Still 4 stars and I'll be back...

I chose this place based on a few reviews from Yelp! It was ok not the best. I ordered sesame chicken dinner combo. Pork egg foo young dinner combo. Wonton soup. The chicken had a wired taste I couldn't figure out what it was that was either missing or added to make it taste that way. My kids seem to enjoy it! My son really enjoyed the fried rice. I thought it was a bit dry. Egg rolls were good. The soup broth was good but I felt the wontons were doughy with little to no meat. It also states "All combinations include hot roll" well I ordered 3 and didn't get one roll. The man behind the counter was nice. I might try it again. Who knows maybe one day I'll be in the mood again to be daring.

It is always a fun place to eat at for a dinner and also a great place to get a carry out. If there is a war on flavor, I'd like to think that their General TSO's fought that battle and won huge. Great Dish. Hands Down the best Hot and Sour soup in town. It's the perfect amount of spicy and sour. The Egg Drop Soup also the best in town. I love the thick skinned egg rolls. That thickness is my sickness. I am also a fan of their sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour shrimp. I like how they put sauce, pineapple, green peppers, and thin lightning shaped carrot pieces in that dish. A lot of places serve you just chicken nuggets with a side of sauce. Here they make the dish a whole. Another added bonus is the bread that comes out with your dinner. It's sweet and awesome! I love dipping this is the sauces. The one drawback however, is that sometimes they become a little liberal with them water chestnuts in a few of them stir fries. Besides that, everything I had have been good.

For some odd reason I was craving Chinese food after not having it in forever (as i'm trying to cut back on spending and unhealthy meal choices... so on my own for dinner I stopped in here as it's literally 2 blocks from my new house. I was slightly disappointed. The atmosphere is dated and traditional Americanized-Chinese booths and tables, which I am not surprised by. The food was definitely a Meh... my egg drop soup, egg roll, and roll appetizer was definitely good... but the Sweet and Sour combo I got (deep fried shrimp, chicken and pork) was HUGE. In this case though, quantity did not mean quality and I found myself with a headache and a stuffed belly after just a third of the dish. Or perhaps I just got the MSG from the soup and egg roll. Also, The oil may need changing as i found that the batter had this odd chewy crisp on the meat that did not allow the cloyingly sweet sauce to stick on the meat at all. Now that I know this place is prototypically Americanized chinese I probably won't be back as I can get a variety of food elsewhere and may try other options around me to see if any other places are better. Or, if i do come back i'll try something noodle like or not deep-fried.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. I am in love with their almond chicken and their soups! I usually am not a fan of egg rolls, but I love the ones they serve. I have never had a bad experience with the service (and I have been going there for over 10 yrs). Most of the wait staff speak broken English, but it is part of the experience. When you walk in the wait staff act as if they are serving there own family.

Passed by here for years, finally stopped in. This is a small, very nicely decorated place. There has been segmented areas setup and this adds an intimate ambiance. The food is typical of what one would expect. Various styles Canton, Thai, Szechuan, etc. The food is good. Huge amounts, enough for three if not four meals. The staff is friendly and very loud. Our waitstaff was having many, loud converstations what I thought was over a blue tooth and then I noticed she didn't have a blue tooth. She was actually, what sounded like, yelling at someone in the kitchen area. This needs to be checked by the management. It's not something I or other diners want to be exposed to. Very inappropriate. I will return and give another look/see.

China Star Palace has been at the same location, same owners for 40 years. Wow that is quite a record for a restaurant Had not been there in about 15 years and was not disappointed The restaurant is very clean and tastefully decorated and up to date. Wait-staff was very friendly and not snotty and anti american as some other Asian restaurants I have been too. The food was tasty, I ordered Pepper Steak and Chicken Sub-Gum The dishes were fresh and flavorful and did not have the greasey, oily taste like you find at other Chinese places. I guess that several decades of serving foods you know how to get it right.

Good food, gets cramped when waiting for takeout orders. Staff is often difficult to understand over the phone.

ok, this is my favorite place for Chinese and it's probably because this was my first love of the Chinese restaurants from my childhood. i always have get the same thing Almond Chicken with it's nice yellow gray sauce on top and underneath it has a shredded warm lettuce(tastes so good warm), and also a order of Sweet and Sour Chicken and then maybe add a General Tso or a Pepper Steak or whatever else depending on who i'm with what catches their eye. so i like doing dine in and or carry out from here but i'm gonna talk about dinning in right now. the staff is always friendly, and i see the owner there every single time. so u order a few dishes to do family style which is always best to share and they start you off with ur choice of either Egg Drop, Chicken Noodle or Wonton Soup (i get Egg Drop always) and they bring u out these fried noodles i call "crunchies". then out comes the egg rolls (veggie or with meat) and also some warm rolls. when all the food comes out and u have better make some room (both in ur belly and on the table) you can order white and brown rice i forgot to add and after with the bill they give everyone a almond cookie and a fortune cookie and if u have kids with u they also get a Chinese Yoyo

The gentleman answering the phone was rude. The food was not that great. I ordered chicken pad thai, and it was nothing like it should have been. Will not go here again.

I thought it was very good. I ordered the General Tso chix. It was very good & the fried rice was excellent. I chose the wanton soup & it was very good especially w/ the crunchies. The broccoli was very good also. This was my first time eating here & I'll definitely go back. I just returned from shanghai, China & the food I had there was horrible w/ the exception of some noodles I had from a street vendor. Hopefully next time I go back the food will be as good as China Star.

THE worst, most flavorless, Chinese we've ever had. Hands down. There were four of us that share this opinion.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because for what I want, it is ok. I don't eat Chinese, Japanese, sushi....anything like that. I am an Almond Chicken kind of girl...if you know what I mean. That being said, this is a place for very Americanized food...hot, greasy egg rolls and won ton soup that is close enough to chicken noodle that I'll eat it. The staff are so friendly, the place is clean, and carry out is hot and ready in a flash. Looking for authentic food? Keep on going..... Hot, fast, Americanized food? Yeah, you could do worse.

The food is good, however it's very overpriced!!! Usually when I buy Chinesse I order 2 dinners which is enough to feed my son, my husband and myself!!!!.... Not this place... I spent $20 bucks and the portions were very small I expected to have a lot more food in my container for $20. They need to up their portions or come down on the price!!!! I wont be going here again.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
