Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

This is a Waterford institution! Many fond memories if kids from Waterford are held here. Appreciate the deliciousness of Wing Lauk. You take it for granted, until you move to the west coast and realize that east coast Chinese is amazing. Almond chicken is so yummy here. It's what I expect all almond chicken dinners to taste like.

Love Wing Lauk's. Great food, good people, and authentic atmosphere. Also love the fact the the whole meal is included...entrée, hot tea,. soup, egg roll, and dessert. Can't beat it for quality or value!

Wing Lauk has been impressing me with their great Chinese food for years now. I grew up near here and have been enjoying Wing Lauk since the 80's. I moved away from Michigan a few years ago, but always make it point to stop in here when in town to satisfy my craving for their great food. I would have to say they offer some of the best Chinese food I have tried anywhere and I have tried many around the U.S.. I have tried many of the items on their huge menu and love it all. My all-time favorites are the house special chop suey (pork, shrimp & chicken with Chinese vegetables) or their Steak Kow (tender chunks of steak and Chinese vegetables in a brown sauce). Their egg rolls are excellent and their almond cookies are great for dessert. They also offer some pretty tasty frog legs here. I have never had a bad meal at Wing Lauk and the service is always fast and friendly with a smile. The restaurant is beautiful inside with all sorts of Asian decor and art. I highly recommend trying out this long time Waterford favorite.

Just when I had lost hope with Waterford cuisine, I found Wing Lauk. I was a little nervous given what I have tasted before, but it certainly earned my praise. I also noticed it has won several "best of Oakland County" awards. I didn't know what to get because I eat... well, nothing. And I was afraid that there would be a language barrier trying to explain what I wanted. No worries! They even have a gluten free menu! I ended up with some concoction they made up for me and it was delicious. They changed everything about "number 8" so I could eat it, and still only charged me for the #8. I loved that part. One weird thing is after I ordered my meal, they screamed it into something that looked like a CB radio - I think that thing is left over from the 80's. But the food was so yummy I can get over it.

Not the greatest.

I prefer carry out when I eat here. I have heard eating in is not the best experience. The food is better than most Chinese places. Not too greasy or slimy. I like that they have a gluten free options as well.

Wing Lauk used to have very good Chinese food. After being away for a long time, while visiting, we decided to try it again. The last few times we have tried it, the food has been very disappointing. The soup was ok; very salty. The rolls were burnt and hard. The food had such a unappetizing flavor we could only eat one bite of each of our entrees. I feel bad because the service is friendly and it used to be very good food and I like to support local businesses. Unfortunately, that just isn't enough to make up for food that doesn't taste good. :(

Not good. Just not good quality stuff. Maybe I'm used to my own regular Chinese places in West Bloomfield, but I work out here and wanted to check it out. The first time we came here, had soup, egg roll, and some special shrimp/veggie dish that was on the lighter side, which was fair. Nothing to complain about, nothing to write home about. Came this week a second time, and this will be my last. The wonton soup was bland - the dumpling was mushy and porky, broth was salty, and the touch of bok choy seemed last minute - like a fresh random leaf thrown in, not even cooked. The egg roll was overly fried, but it came with the combo. I ordered the General Tso chicken, which is usually a sauted / wok fried chicken with veggies. This version was breaded (which, let's be real, sometimes our little hearts desire nothing but greasy fried breaded Chinese chicken!) but it was mushy. I need to have a separate paragraph about the General Tso sauce. It was literally some random orange duck sauce mixed with Tabasco or barbecue sauce. The smell, as soon as the dish was set in front of me, offended my nostrils, the Tabasco was so pungent. It actually made me wish for true MSG, and I shouldn't have even taken a bite. Alas, I took one bite, and immediately lost my appetite. The service after that was ok. We could never get a hold of our waitress, so I asked another one nicely just to take it back, I was done, which she did without a problem. The manager even came to talk to us and was friendly, and said he'd give us half off. However, when our actual waitress came back (finally) she took my boyfriends plate right from under his nose before he was done eating. She came back to ask if HE wanted to dessert "would YOU like ice cream?" Pointing at him, not acknowledging me. He declined. Also, our bill was 25% off, not half off. Even though I didn't touch a bite on my plate. Besides the horrendous service and inedible food, I do need to mention the batroom(at least the lady's, can't speak for men's). I went in, 30 seconds later nearly vomited because of the old unsanitary smell and filthy conditions, so I left. Maybe this set me off before I had my General Tsos chicken. I'll treat my boyfriend to Hong Hua (Farmington Hills), Shangri La (West Bloomfield), or Mon Jin Lau (Troy).

Ordered a take out for the the first time since moving back to MI last year. We were so looking forward to some good Chinese food. This was the WORST Chinese food I have ever eaten......truly beyond horrible. Egg rolls, fried rice, almond chicken and Gen'l Tsao all disgusting......how can they still be in business?

Behind the red doors. I have to say the General Taos chicken has a different sauce than other restaurants and its for the better. Good value.

I grew up on Wing Lauk but in recent years have only gone to east ocean due to the proximity of my house. Recently I decided to get takeout from Wing Lauk instead since the owners there are much more pleasant than East Ocean. I was sadly disappointed. The portions from Wing Lauk were much smaller, the general tao chicken was over cooked and dry and the crab rangoons seemed like something that was purchased from costco, Wing Lauk is also more expensive. I wanted to prefer Wing Lauk but I will not returning.

I have been going to eat at Wing Lauk most of my life. They have great food, good service, and you wouldn't expect it but they have awesome drinks too. Their food is a mixture of American and Chinese. Very delicious. My favorite Chinese restaurant.

Had the pepper steak as a carry out. It was terribly salty and was more of a soup.....I'm a salt lover too. The egg roll was barely warm and didn't taste fresh. I don't think I'll go back even though it is the closest Chinese restaurant to my home.
(1)Kal K.
My fiancé and I went there tonight. Was pretty good, but I have to say I think it was pretty expensive for a Chinese place. The food was nothing "great", but rather what you'd expect from any decent Chinese place. Don't think I'd go back.

Great food will surely come back again!

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant. I have been coming here for years with my Dad. I have been away from home for 6 years and you better believe every trip I make back to MI involves a stop at Wing Lauk. Thank you always being so kind and courteous. The almond chicken is amazing! Love it here!

We have been coming here for years. It really was the best chinese in the area. We still go fairly regularly because their almond chicken, sesame chicken and shrimp in lobster sauce are delicious. The wonton soup is a bit salty, but always hot, and the egg rolls and plum sauce are good. Our servers have always been friendly and courteous, and the food arrives promptly. The owners always come by the table to greet us, even when they are busy. Very nice atmosphere. I think it might help if they cut the menu back a bit, and update some of their dishes.

The gentleman on the phone was pleasant and spoke very clear english, this was great for ordering carryout! I, however, got severely sick about an hour or so after eating some of the food. I was up all night with horrible things happening to me and, in turn, the bathroom... I even had to call in sick the next day at work (which is why I'm at home right now instead of making money at work...). My wife only ate a little bit of her food as she wasn't very hungry at the time when we ordered but she was hurting a bit as well. I'm starting to believe that there really is no good asian cuisine in Waterford... Definitely don't even go near the buffet across the street unless you really want to spend an entire evening in the bathroom... Plus, they'll steal your sunglasses off the table when you go to get food and deny it when you ask them why you saw them take them off of your table. Couldn't believe that happened! Anyways, back to Wing Lauk... From what I ate it didn't taste horrible but it wasn't anything that I would go back for. So, not counting getting sick from the food, the taste alone wasn't anything to brag about. I won't be back

I have been eating here with me family for many years, always great food and great service! The family that owns this place is wonderful, keeps the place clean and food is always fresh! I prefer Cantonese style Chinese food, and this is the only place that I can get it. Definitely recommend getting one of the family style dinners so you can try everything!

My family calls this place "a wing and a prayer." In a community afflicted by a void of edible Chinese this place is near the bottom of the list.

This used to be a great place, but in recent years I have to say the quality of the food has been getting worse. I love the place, the owners and the staff, and that they have gluten-free options, but I don't think I'll be going back. The vegetarian chop suey was not good. :(

My boyfriend and I ate here tonight and it was the worst Chinese food either of us have ever eaten. I was starving and excited because I saw they had.good reviews. The menu was extremely pricey and very misleading. The only thing we enjoyed were the eggrolls and oohlong tea. When the food came out the white rice was extremely dry and starchy and my orange chicken(breaded cat) was drenched in vinegar. My boyfriends chicken stirfry had few pieces of chicken and pretty sure was made with Rahman noodle. Neither of us.ate but 3 bites and the clueless waitress said nothing and just laid down the bill for $26.00. Never go there again.

This used to be a real classic Hong Kong style fancy Chinese restaurant that had very good consistent quality food. In the years past I have enjoyed many delicious meals here with my family. BUT, I am afraid that those days are long gone for this place. I think that the owners have lost touch with what is going on or something because things are really bad here. Our last visit (and I do mean that I never want go back, but my son disagrees), I experienced bad service and even worse food. I cannot understand why everything here has gone so wrong, but it surely has gone wrong. The service issue was limited to the waitress seeming to be very unhappy which projected a less than welcoming atmosphere while dining here. Our order was taken quickly and correctly, the food was prepared reasonably fast, and served fine, but the waitress seemed so profound unhappy that it just filled the air with misery. When you go to a restaurant, everyone wants happiness and fun, not doom and gloom. When it comes to Chinese food, I have found that how a dish should taste is somewhat of a matter of opinion because after all, most Chinese food served in American Chinese restaurants is not really Chinese food but rather it is Chinese style food developed for the American palate. But the food that was served to me here is so bad that I cannot imagine how anyone would like it. My food was almost inedible because the weirdly flavored sauce on my food. It tasted ok at first, then as I continued to eat my food, it started to overwhelm my sense of taste. I think that there may been way too much MSG in the sauce. If I wasn't so hungry, I would not have choked down the food. Now why wife and son on the other hand did not have exactly the same opinion. In general they are far less critical about a restaurant than I am. My wife said that her chicken Lo-Mein was good, but when I tasted it I thought it reminded me of ten cent ramen noodles from my college days. My son said he enjoyed his food, but again when I tasted his food I thought that the sauce had a bizarre artificial flavor caused by way too much MSG. The only food that I found enjoyable was the overpriced POO-POO platter. It's fun and tasty. They serve it with a little Sterno cooker that you can put your little pieces of food on to heat or cook more to your desire. Regarding the bathrooms, I didn't find them worse than most other Chinese restaurants (which means that they are generally a little nasty), but I did notice that the hot water faucet never provided any hot water for washing your hands. The lack of hot water might explain why all of the dishes and tableware was covered with an oily grime. As you might have guessed I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Everything was bland, there was a reason there was nobody other than us that wasn't retired eating in a Sat night. Egg rolls were just mush inside. The Mongolian beef looked the same color as canned dog food and the beef looked about the same too. Very little meat in it anyways. Should have been called Mongolian onions and carrots. The plus side the gluten free menu for my date helped give it 2 stars verse 1.

Love this place! This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. It is family owned and operated and they are so friendly and helpful. I have a daughter who has to eat gluten free, so I'm impressed that they have several gluten free options. The prices are good and the food is great! I have eaten in the restaurant - and while very dated - it is clean and has a warm atmosphere. I've also gotten take-out. They are very prompt and courteous.

Coming from Chicago, where all and any type of Asian food is a phone call (or Grubhub) away, I didn't know what to expect for this place.... But, then again, in a city where you can order pad Thai at 12am and have it delivered in 30 minutes.... It's been some time since I had a proper sit down Chinese meal. And what a fantastic sit down Chinese meal it was. You see, I have yet to find a local Chicago haunt that serves a mean Almond Chicken.... so when I saw Almond Chicken on Wing Lauk's menu, I was sold. Tender, crisp chicken swathed in a delicious golden-brown sauce and sprinkled with almonds. Mmmmm! The egg rolls were also fried to perfection and starters (wonton soup, egg drop soup and tomato juice at my table) were ranked high on our satisfaction lists. Not to forget, either, that service was solid. Our waitress was super friendly and funny. I highly recommend Wing Lauk if you're looking for American/Chinese.
