I am no aficionado of Thai (or any other Asian) cuisine in regards to authenticity, so I can't and won't speak to that, but I do know whether something tastes good to me or not. That said, I haven't had a lot of things from their menu, but the things I have had have been absolutely delicious - perfectly seasoned and bursting with flavor. Their heat level selection seems to be skewed a bit toward the mild side, so, though I do enjoy pretty spicy-hot food, if you're looking for a fraternity dare face melting level of hot, you're going to want to let them know. I order mine hot and I would call it closer to medium. I've only eaten in once so far and it was not close to lunch/dinner rush times and the service was just fine. I have ordered carry out a number of times and, even though they have advised a 20-30 minute pickup, I was there in no more than 15 and every time my order was bagged and waiting. (Again, probably not during their peak hours) Do yourself a favor and check this place out. The food is outstanding and, even though most reviews here ding them on their service, I've never had an issue and (as of late March 2015) they are hiring more waitstaff. Cheers!

Yeah, I'd say that they've earned another star, considering that I'm there in one fashion or another at least once a week or so. Keep in mind: it's not a perfect operation or anything. There are still wait time issues, the tablecloths are still weird, and they'll often run out of the soup that's supposed to be included with lunch, and offer nothing in its place, which kind of sucks. Having said that, that's about all there is to complain about. I really enjoy their #4 cooked medium, with chicken, though I wish the sauce were a *bit* more complex and that the veggies included were a bit more varied. Even so, I'm picking nits: I get that dish *all the time*, and it's good for me for 2-3 meals if I make more starch to go with the remainder. It'd be unfair for me to say anything less than "Yay! I'm a fan." of a place that I'm basically a regular at. It's not perfect, but it's certainly plenty good, and the servers do a good job, too. They know me, and they're quite gracious. They're never going to be a 5-star establishment, but they're not pretending to be one, either. They just do a good job of what they're doing, and I appreciate that, so I'll continue to give them my money.

Great food. Decent prices. Sadly, customer service leaves something to be desired. A simple 1 item order. Was given a 30 minute wait time for carry out. Which, while long, is something to be able to plan around. Arrive 33 minutes later...to around 6 people standing around waiting for orders. 20 minutes after arriving and paying for food, left with order. Disappointing that they have such great food, but will probably not be back due to poor staffing...

Not a fancy place but great prices and fantastic food, I'll be back!!! I travel a lot and this is on my recommendation list, not many places make it there. Was there for lunch and they were quite busy and service was great.

Alright so coming in here to dine in at 6:30 on a Friday was an awful idea -- absolutely packed with nowhere to sit. The tables that had no people hadn't been bussed yet. After we got to the front of the counter and found out we weren't supposed to order up there, we were sat and our orders were taken ("ours" meaning my girlfriend and mine, naturally). I got the drunken noodles per Yelp's suggestion, Tom Kha Gai soup, and we split the 6 for $3.95 crab rangoons. Drunken noodles were ridiculous and the soup was probably the best I've had of the variety. It's safe to say I've yet to have better Thai food. The crab rangoons weren't the best I've had, but they tasted like fried cream cheese with a sweet/sour sauce. Who can complain? The service was brutal/non-existent. It seems like they're just not well equipped staff-wise to handle a dinner time rush. It's not clear if you're supposed to go to the counter and order, or do it from a table. Where do you pay (it turns out at the counter)? Do you leave tip on the table, or in the jar? They got things more under control by the time we left at about 7:30 but dinner time was a bit of a mess. I will say the food MORE than made up for it. So Thai has a much better dine-in experience and Hot Pepper Thai isn't a place you'd probably want to go on a first date, but the latter's food is as good or better than So Thai's. Just get the drunken noodles (I got mine with chicken) and Tom Kha Gai soup... and then promptly order take out to eat more of later or tomorrow. The service here is absolutely miserable, and normally I'd drop my rating because of it, but I was just *that* impressed with the food.

I was told by a family member how good this place is so we gave it a try. We ordered two dishes. We were not impressed with the food or the service. Won't be back. Also I talked to the person that referred us and she said she has since then changed her mind and won't be back either.

Best Thai food EVER! We have tried several Thai restaurants all over the place and Hot Pepper Thai is hands down the best. Service is very friendly and prompt. Food is steaming hot and can hear, and see it if you want to while it's being prepared.

This USED to be our favorite restaurant and we would order every Monday. The same order. The last 3 or 4 times something was wrong. Things were missing, it was packed sideways so everything leaked everywhere....then the last 2 times they said it would be ready in 30 minutes and it was over 90 minutes just to pick up carry out. Standing in a jammed restaurant for over an hour is not fun. And the food was very bland. Don't know what's changed but we won't be going back there again. Makes me sad =(

YUM!!! Been to different hole in the wall Thai, this place is a hidden gem for certain! A must try in the Waterford, White Lake, Pontiac area. Great food, excellent pricing. Friendly staff!

I love this restaurant! The food is fresh and made exactly the way you like it. The wait for food can sometimes be slow but its because of the multiple people who get their food from there. Many can also agree they are the beat Thai food in town!

Good service and good food. This is one if my favorite Thai places. If you go for lunch get their early. There is always a crowd from the local area there. My favorite dish is the pad Thai. It is so good and the portions are very generous so come hungry. Enjoy

Laura G.
Just ordered my Thai food from here and they messed up 75% of my order. Rather then redoing my order the "manager " said she could give me 20% off my next order. She was not helpful at all and could not care less. I asked for no onion and my entire order was covered in them. It's unfortunate that I was treated so bad. Needless to say you better hope they don't mess your order up in the future or else you will be SOL.

I'm picky about my Thai food and this is my favorite in Oakland County. Expect a wait because it's all cooked fresh. Pad Ped is one of my standards and they do it very well. Pad se ew also is amazing here.

Terrific Pad Thai! Pad See'ew is also a great call. Both about 11 or 12 bucks for dinner sized portion. Small place to eat in, but friendly staff. Brisk carry out business constantly. No complaints!

I love this place. The food is always great, very consistent. I highly recommend the pad Thai. The portions are very generous as well you are pretty much always guaranteed leftovers.

We love Hot Pepper Thai. We've been carrying out for years. We love the seafood combination with the red curry sauce and the Tom Yum soup. Never had a single bad thing. Hard to believe such great Thai food in Waterford!

This is the only place I order Thai food in SW Detroit area. Lived in Seattle for 5 years, so I know good Thai when I find it! Larb salad is excellent. I always get the chicken. House special one is excellent. I always order the same things but willing to bet everything is excellent. They are very busy, even if the dining room is empty the carry out bags are lined up on back counter. Sometimes 10 orders deep.
(5)
Shaun L.
The food is good . I cannot complain at all about that. My goodness the wait is horrendous. They say a half hour and your lucky to get your food in an hour whether it busy or not. Be prepared to order at least an hour ahead of time. This is an every time occurrence. It's more economical to find a place a little further away.

I love Thai food. lived in NYC for many years, and had amazing Thai food. After all this time, STILL the best Thai I have ever eaten. Not a bad item on their menu, but their noodle dishes are especially fabulous.
(5)
Corrie L.
Love, love, love the food. Only issue lately is being charged DINNER prices for lunch portions. I know the portions are ridiculously huge but I always eat the leftovers. So, please, give the right portion size as your hours are listed on the menu and I WILL not pay more for less.

We love Hot Pepper Thai! It's definitely the best Thai place I've ever been too. Their pad Thai is the best around and their curries are great as well! We order carry out from here maybe once a week! It's seriously addicting. The only complaint I have is carry out service is a little slow but is it totally worth the wait!
(5)

Hot Pepper Thai always has delicious food. They have generous serving sizes. I recommend the Chicken Gang Gai, Chicken Pad Ped, and the spring rolls. During peak hours, allow extra time for your order to be made - I believe that there is a sign that states this very fact in the restaurant. I like my food on the spicy side, so ordering it "hot" works perfectly for me. The only drawbacks are that they are closed on Sundays, and the food packaging has leaked on me a lot of times. Perhaps they could look into airtight containers for dishes with more liquids in them?
(5)
Melissa H.
This restaurant is very small and very busy. On the weekends it's over an hour, but I would wait two. Hands down the best Thai food. Pad see eu has a ton of flavor and the Tom Yum broth is wonderful. If you plan to dine in on the weekend it's tight and busy, if ordering out plan ahead. You'll be happy you found this place. P.s. If your a big pop drinker it sold by the can here.

Let me start by saying I've been known to drive 50 minutes from my home to Hot Pepper Thai to order their amazing Coconut Curry. I'm super serious! Of all the Thai places I've eaten at, and I've tried many, this easily takes the number 1 spot in my heart. Their food is always delicious and consistent, and their portions are gigantic. That said, here are a few of my recommendations: - Spring rolls ( A MUST!) - Tom Yum soup (there's a complimentary soup of the day when you dine in most days) - Gang Gai (#1) (If you're a curry lover like myself) - Pad Bai Kra Prow (#7) (With beef!)

I finally got here after hearing numerous great reviews. It didn't disappoint. Ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and a spring roll. Very generous portion and it was great. Can't wait to go back and try another dish.

Best Thai place I have found in this area. I recommend exploring the menu and trying new things. I love the pad thai and the drunken noodles. They do a great job on making tofu tasty. My only complaint is if you order before closing you can get a dish with no love. Other wise everything is made well.

Very consistent. Best Thai in the area for sure. Cashew chicken (add broccoli) is awesome. Order ahead at peak times, otherwise fairly fast.

Simply amazing. I stay at the holiday inn often for work, and this is a must eat! Best Thai I have found in MI. The #11, 23 ate my goto orders. With a Tom yum soup. Be careful they know how to use spices really well.
(5)
Mike M.
Epic drunken noodles. Super nice staff. Fresh ingredients. Best Thai I've had in a long time.
(5)
Suzie C.
Best Thai restaurant in the area. I have tried many. The pad thai, fried rice (kow pad), and drunken noodles are to die for. This place never disappoints. Everything is cooked fresh so the wait is long but it's worth it. Very friendly staff.
(5)
Divadoc T.
Good food, I'm partial to the fried rice with shrimp. They are zealous with the spices so a medium can be quite intense. My husband had trouble finishing a mild item. Clean and modest looking restaurant, friendly staff.
(4)
Michelle M.
Consistently good food. I was pretty much stuck in a Pad Thai rut until I found this place. Now I've tried most things on the menu and have done nothing but enjoyed them. A lot of food for the money, too. Spring for the fried rice. It's heavenly.
(5)
William S.
One of the best thai restaurants in SE Michigan. Classic Pad Thai with a delicate peanut flavor with the spice layered with the meat and fried tofu. Great place to start but I think their Drunken Noodle is my favorite. The thai brandy lifts the broccoli and beef while keeping the heat in check. Pad prik and pad see u are great as well. One of the only place to get fresh Shrimp Chips as well. Order ahead during peak times, but even when busy the food is fast and right.
(4)
Mark G.
Some of the best Thai you'll find in Michigan. Spicy, huge dinner portions, reasonably priced but you really have to know it's here to find it. Not much for ambiance (not a date night destination), but the staff is very helpful. Get the Pad Mao (Drunken Noodles)!
(4)
Kevin P.
Good food at a good price. Most Thai places I go to the medium is too spivey and a mild plus is just right. The mild plus here was a little blend for my liking but the medium was just right. All in all a good experience and would def go back.

Gene B.
I freaking love this place, finally a place that knows what "hot" means when you ask for the spice factor. I go here about once a week and do not consider going anywhere else in the area for Thai. Service is always great and friendly. I have never had to wait longer than 20 minutes for any of my orders. I always suggest this place to people looking for awesome food.

I've been to dozens of Thai restaurants and this consistently stands as one of my favorites. Another great hole-in-the wall with great chefs and staff. Great bang for the buck. Not the most glamorous place, but excellent price, food, and service!

I'm not a Thai food expert, but this place is pretty good. Bangkok Cuisine in Rochester and Utica seem to be universally reviewed as the best. But this place is a good second, and good enough that you won't want to make the drive out to Bangkok Cuisine if you're in the area. To call the place spartan inside would be polite. But I'm there for the food, not for the décor. If you order takeout, it always seems to take an extra 5 or 10 minutes longer than whatever they tell you it'll take. I don't mind that, because they're cooking all the meals when you order it, nothing is premade. What I do mind is that the saucy foods tend to leak through their packaging. I've had it leak onto my car twice now, and the bag is just a sloppy mess when I get home. The messy packaging actually makes me order takeout from there less frequently than I would otherwise if it was packaged properly. Instead, I'll just eat in, or on the few occasions when I do order takeout from them, I make sure to bring a large plastic box for my car so that it doesn't leak all over the seats.

Best Thai food I've had in MI. Have not been disappointed with any dish I've ordered on any given day.... And I go a lot!

Went in just before closing on a Thursday. The staff couldn't have been nicer. I travel a lot and like Thai food. This place is really very very good. simple and not fancy but very good.

Epic drunken noodles. Super nice staff. Fresh ingredients. Best Thai I've had in a long time.

Best Thai restaurant in the area. I have tried many. The pad thai, fried rice (kow pad), and drunken noodles are to die for. This place never disappoints. Everything is cooked fresh so the wait is long but it's worth it. Very friendly staff.

Good food, I'm partial to the fried rice with shrimp. They are zealous with the spices so a medium can be quite intense. My husband had trouble finishing a mild item. Clean and modest looking restaurant, friendly staff.

Consistently good food. I was pretty much stuck in a Pad Thai rut until I found this place. Now I've tried most things on the menu and have done nothing but enjoyed them. A lot of food for the money, too. Spring for the fried rice. It's heavenly.

Some of the best Thai you'll find in Michigan. Spicy, huge dinner portions, reasonably priced but you really have to know it's here to find it. Not much for ambiance (not a date night destination), but the staff is very helpful. Get the Pad Mao (Drunken Noodles)!

Good food at a good price. Most Thai places I go to the medium is too spivey and a mild plus is just right. The mild plus here was a little blend for my liking but the medium was just right. All in all a good experience and would def go back.

Love this place. Not a big Thai person, but the girlfriend is...tried it and actually loved it!

I've been to dozens of Thai restaurants and this consistently stands as one of my favorites. Another great hole-in-the wall with great chefs and staff. Great bang for the buck. Not the most glamorous place, but excellent price, food, and service!
