Great service! Hubby took me there for a quick lunch. It was my birthday so I got a couple extra spring rolls (yay) and because they didn't have the peanut sauce I was craving (it was still being cooked), the owner lady put some in a to go box for me to take home. She rocks and so does the restaurant and food!

This place is a big hit during lunch hours for the GM'ers (as i once was). Gets quite crowded in here. If you do go, try to go early before the hungry fo-hawk men arrive! Star has excellent hot and sour soup before the meal. Great curry dishes. Pad Thai is okay.

I found this place on Yelp and was excited since everyone said such great things. I think that my bad experience was partly due to the fact that we showed up about 20 minutes before they closed. The food was so-so at best and if I were deciding where to eat in the Warren area, I would choose something else.

Thai Star has become my go to thai place. Since my last review I have dined in many times instead of just ordering take out. Thai Star is the best thai food restaurant for two reasons, 1.) It always taste good! I like that they use fresh vegetables unlike other Thai places. 2.) You get soup, and 2 spring rolls with your lunch/dinner entree! Yummy and saves you some $ so you can tip your server even better of course ;) I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAI STAR.

I absolutely loooooove this place. Me and my family go here all the time. Great food, reasonable pricing, and generous portions. The staff is always polite, friendly and engaging.

2nd time at Thai Star in the last two weeks. I have been searching for the best Tom Kha soup for the past few months in hope of finding one that was similar to my favorite that I found in the Napa Valley area. Well I have come very close with Thai Star's Tom Kha with vegetables. If you in an inkling for Tom Kha, try it here. As for my knowlege of Thai food, it is very little. My wife and I both enjoy the Peanut Curry dish. Prices are very reasonable. Lunch prices are in the $7.25 range. Give them a try

Let's talk about delicious. This is the place to go. Trust me, I eat a lot of thai food but this was by far my favorite overall place. Spring rolls = on point. They were so good and super quick. She also recognized I was a vegetarian when I ordered so gave me two spring rolls because both of the soups she had contained meat. The staff = best service I have probably ever had. The lady was so nice. It was almost time to close but she insisted we eat in because the food taste better rather than waiting to get home. She also made you feel at home. We were able to get anything we needed. It was kind of cool. The chef even came out and asked us how our food was. Pad See Ew was SOOOOOOO good. I get it at a lot of places including places that are super high ranked on Yelp and this was my favorite. My only critique would have been I would have liked mushrooms. I promise you, this is a place you want to go to!

You don't come for the decor, unless early 70's is something you really want to be around, but the quality of the food is fantastic. The freshness of everything I have had from here is always spot on. Spice level is conservative, I usually order extra hot instead of hot, people I bring here also have the same opinion unless they don't like spice. The hot and sour soup has a fantastic balance of flavor, color and spice level. This will be your favorite Thai place.

This was the place my girlfriends and I would go to when we were craving good thai food after a long day of high school. The staff are very friendly and most importantly, the food is delicious. After I went away to college, I realized how hard it is to find good thai food, especially in Ann Arbor. Whenever I am home and need my thai food fix, I definitely have to go to Thai Star. Delicious fried chicken wings, soups, and all the entrees I've gotten have always been delicious. I usually stick to the noodles, the standard pad thai with shrimp or pad see ew with beef. Great place for lunch or dinner and always left overs for the next day!

Great Thai food. Soup and eggrolls come with every meal. I order curry, mansumug, and Pai Thai and it was delicious. Love that they give free tea. Pai Thai was delicious- juicy and just right. seafood curry- was perfect with light coconut sauce! mansumug- great potatoes and peanuts! I use to go here when I was little and have forgotten, decide to stop by after a long day of shopping, and I'm glad I did. It was great! Will be returning soon.

Very Delicious! We were the only people in the restaurant on a Sat night at 8pm. In house dining closes at 8:30pm & 9pm is total shut down. We ordered Shrimp Pad Thai & the Seafood Curry. Both came with choice of soup & spring roll. We had Tom Yum soup & hot sour. Both very good & the spring roll was great. Shrimp Pad thai looked & tasted soooo good. It had a decent amount of grilled shrimp. Seafood curry was a new choice for us, but we love all seafood so that's why we ordered it. Seafood Curry was over white rice & had lots of seafood chunks of meat. The coconut curry sauce was really good. I hate coconut, but I couldn't taste it at all. The servings were huge & was two meals in one. $19.95 for all that food, you can't beat that!! The restaurant was clean, had one waitress & lots of (empty) tables. We will be back!!

After going to the Chinese buffet on Ryan and 12 way too much I decided to stop eating there. I'd seen Thai Star on route each time but never stopped. I finally popped in today and the 3 things I noticed immediately, friendly staff, very clean restaurant, and reasonably extensive menu. I ordered a carry out lunch portion of peanut curry for 7 dollars. Usually with lunch carry out you don't get both the egg roll and soup but it was in the bag when I got home. The hot & sour soup has a real dark broth, not too salty, tangy, spicy, and piping hot. the spring roll was nice and crispy with good flavor. The curry is pretty nice-lots of vegetables and chicken. The portion is pretty fair for a lunch portion and the ingredients are fresh. I ordered medium and it isn't very hot which is nominal in the grand scheme. Overall, nice job Thai Star!

8/22/12: Update! Okay, I lied...I said I would dine in next time, but the craving for their hot & sour soup (just based off reviews) was overwhelming me, so I ordered carry out for lunch again! I got 1 spring roll (still delicious) and hot & sour soup. Delicious! Still waiting to try a noodle dish before I go for all 5 stars... Hope you're able to enjoy this place!

Lunch entrees were good. The tofu was cooked well and vegetables tasted fresh, not overly greasy or limp. Lunch special spring roll and Tom Yum soup were average; good for volume but not tasty. The service was friendly but slow considering the lunch rush. Good deal for lunch ~ $7.50-8 including appetizers.

Solid...found it on yelp, had dinner, peanut curry w/ tofu and veggies, and, the Drunken noodles. Both were great. Huge portions, all for under twenty bucks.

You know what makes me super duper happy? Finding an amazing restaurant I never knew existed mere minutes from my home! I'll admit that I've only had one dish since I've been here. I get the catfish curry every time. Why mess with a good thing? I've seen their other dishes while dining here and they all look delicious. The prices are great especially for the portion size which are generous. I usually can eat three times with the portion they give me for the catfish. All lunches and dinners come with an eggroll and either Tom Yum soup or Hot and Sour soup which is rare for any Thai restaurant nowadays. A lot of people rave about Sala Thai but I don't think it's nearly as good!

Well, it's been a while since I Yelped. And what better time than right now, I suppose. I've recently had a job change and the location I'm at now provides quite a bit more dine-in opportunities. Today, I decided to take a couple of recommendations I was given and went to Thai Star. Now, I grew up in Warren and still continue to go to Warren, especially now that I'm working in Warren. 3 Warren's in one sentence. A new record. :) But for as long as I have driven past it, I've never stopped off at Thai Star. So, today I stopped driving by. It's another one of those "hole in the wall" places as it's in a strip mall, has modest decor and has been there forever. The wait staff seemed friendly, if not a bit hurried as it was the lunch time crowd, but that's to be expected at times. I ordered my usual Pad Cashew with chicken (which is my personal fave). Hot and Sour soup and a spring roll was included. I have to say that the hot and sour soup was probably one of the best I've had. Great flavor. Spring roll was very tasty, as well. The Pad Cashew was very bright in appearance. I normally don't talk about artsy-fartsy stuff like that, but it was very nice to look at. Bright greens from the bell pepper and orange from the carrot. Even the chicken was bright white and then the brown roasted cashews on top. And they used a bowl to make a dome of rice. Neat touch. I know, we eat with our eyes, but I opted for a fork into my mouth today. Just something I couldn't help but notice. Ok, and alot of the other food I saw them bring out looked pretty good, too. Ok, so how did it taste? It was very good. Again, as always, I have to use the word subjective. I liked it, but there have been places I've gone to that I've liked better. That's not to say it wasn't good. It was very good. But everyone likes flavors that are a little bit different. The sauce seemed to have a bit more of one thing and a little less of another to just give it a slightly different taste than other places. And yes, I would go there again. When something is good but you've only had it one time, you owe it to yourself to have it a couple of more times. Things can grow on you once you give it more than one chance. Like my wife when we first started dating. After a few dates, she couldn't get enough of me. :) The only thing that I would have liked better was a bit more rice. There was alot of pad cashew (a good amount) but the ratio was about 3/4 entree and 1/4 rice. To me, the rice is part of the dish, not a side. I would prefer a 2/3 entree to 1/3 rice, myself. I found myself rationing rice near the end of the meal just so that I could mix it in with the other ingrediants on the plate. But I'm just nit-picking. It's one of my quirks, I can't help it (I'm a pizza snob, too, but that's for another review). But some people may like a little less rice, and you know what? That's ok. It's deranged and sheer lunacy, but we'd all wear a straight-jacket a little differently, too, right? I do plan on going back. Pad Se-ew is next on the list. Sorry, I'm not much into Pad Thai. I think I got burnt out on it because that was all I used to eat before I became daring and ordered something else one day. But many more places to eat and review. So I plan on actually reviewing instead of just eating and forgetting about sharing my eating experiences. I know everyone has been waiting patiently for that, right? Anyone? Bueller? :D

What can I say about a place I grew up with from the age of five?! Having moved away at the tender age of ten, and eleven years later, being driven all the way here to get some Thai Star is the best gift/treat anyone can give me. Let me begin with their soup. You know, the one they give for free!! Hot and Sour Soup at its best. I've never tasted better and every Hot and Sour I've had at other places since cannot compare. The spiciness is just right, with crunchy water chestnuts, and those little sprouts of whatchamacallits. Just imaging eating it makes my stomach rumble. Now, imagine eating the soup with their shrimp chips?! (which they don't give away anymore, last I checked). Wow! Next, the spring roll. It's the same as every other little roll of veggie joy. But, after eating the soup, it def hits the spot. My favorite plate, by far at Thai Star has to be the Veggie Fried Rice. Don't be a chicken and ask for a little spicy. You won't regret it! I've had/tasted most plates on the menu since my family tends to lean towards the adventurous side, and I can tell you, everything is great. However, as with most ethnic foods, stick with the food you know you like and then venture into their other things. Service is legit, never had an issue with a waitress. They don't fawn all over you, which is great! Thai Star is seriously one of the best places ever, don't miss out!

Thai Star offers delicious food for a great price. Their lunches run around $7.50 and their dinner's hover around $8.50. And all entrees include hot and sour soup and a spring roll! Not only that but carry out orders also include a soup and spring roll which is rare in the thai takeout biz! But its not just the huge amount of food that keeps me coming back, their curries in particular, as Theresa B. previously mentioned, are much tastier than other area thai places. I know its not traditional, but I love pineapple curry. Pineapple to me is the best food ever to be paired with red curry. The sweet, spongeiness of the pineapple and spicy/coconut flavor of the curry perfectly complement each other. So I guess you can tell by now what my "usual" is at Thai Star. I've had several dishes at Thai Star, the green curry, yellow curry, some noodle dishes; they've all tasted excellent. The pad thai was just ok, but its hard to find good pad thai in the madison heights/ warren/ troy area so I'll forgive them! They also free spiced hot tea and cold thai tea (its creamy and sweet, try it!) and thai coffee. Thai Star is family run, with the whole family seemingly chipping in. I've had the same waitress everytime I've gone and the service was great, not as great as Golden City, but pretty good. The decor is a bit outdated and bland, but I'll let that slide as well. For some cheap, tasty curry and other thai dishes head down to Thai Star!

I used to live behind this place and man, do I miss it! I've eaten in a couple times at dinner and I have to say that the portions are bigger when you order carry-out. I've tried numerous dishes here and I'd have to say that the Peanut Curry and the Ginger Curry are the ones I crave the most. I usually order my dish with tofu & extra veggies, but I've tried both the chicken and the pork without complaints. The noodle dish I like the best is the Pad See Ew. The hot & sour soup and spring roll (which come with the meal) are awesome. I dream about the spring rolls sometimes. I love drenching them in plum sauce. So good. This is exactly the type of place I want as my neighborhood Thai carry-out. I miss living within walking distance to this place!

Great food for a great price. Most dishes are around $8 if you choose one of the following: chicken, beef, vegetables or tofu. If you want seafood, it's around $9. All dishes are big portions and they come with soup and a spring roll. My favorite are the Peanut Curry and the Thai Star Noodles dishes. My friend's favorite is the Masaman Curry but I think it's just alright. They close at 9pm almost every night so make sure you go before then!

I eat at Thai Star often as I work in the area. When driving by, you may easily isjudge the place due to the older building and surrounding shops. Don't be fooled, this place it great! The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is clean. I love the cabbage spring rolls and especially the Tom Yum soup that come with your entree. The staff is always friendly and the portions are pretty large. You may find other Thai restaurants that have a better decor, but I promise you won't find better value anywhere. If you haven't had a chance to eat here yet, you should check it out.
