Opa Grill has been a great addition to an area that is deprived of good places to eat. My wife and I have been coming here once or twice a month since it has opened and have never had a bad meal. It is apparent that most of the ingredients are fresh and house made which you just don't find in too many Greek diners/Coney's these days. Their Opa Grill salad, Gyro, Chicken Gyro, and Gyro omelette all come highly recommended from me. The service has steadily improved since opening, not to mention the owners are nearly always there and engaging the customers. I hope this place is here for good because the location has not been kind to businesses in the past. Then again, the previous places weren't even close to being as good as Opa Grill.

Great Super Friendly Service and a top notch Gyro experience....yes I will eat here one or 300 more times. The Coney Islands in this town have kinda lost their flare...what happened to the love? What they seem to be missing the Opa Grill has in duplicate and that is why little places like this get my business over the chains! Greeted with smiles as we walked thru the door the hostess even knew my coworkers name...she asked my name and since we hit them just after the lunch rush we pretty much had our pick of seats. I was pointed toward the Gyro with promises of glory, so after the waitress brought our drinks (the iced tea was not very good...not fresh tasting which was sad) I laid down my order: Gyro minus onions and fries. The gyro arrived onion less...I heard angels sing and felt the tears of a million messed up orders....it was onion less...like I ordered! You wouldn't think such a thing could move a grown man but having sent back, peeled off of or just eating many onionified gyros in my life this felt special. The gyro was stuffed to the point where the kitchen didn't even bother to fold it, not a frilly toothpick to be seen my friends. The first thing I noticed was that the meat was unevenly cut...could it be that my gyro was actually sliced fresh? One taste and I knew for sure, these were not gyro strips from Costco...my sandwich was just carved off a giant cone of seasoned lamb heaven! The gyro meat was tender with just a slight crispness, it was seasoned perfectly and just spot on some of the best gyro meat I've ever had...it was just perfect. The fries were alright...crispy on the outside and soft inside but otherwise pretty bland, I am all about the Tzaziki sauce and was dipping my fries in what little I had left from my gyro when the waitress asked if I'd like more...getting extra from a chain is like pulling teeth, I always feel like the waitress is gonna get fired for that extra cup of cucumber sauce the way they act when you request more. So the gyro meat was sublime and the sauce was perfect (and plentifully available), the onions were where I asked them to be, left in the kitchen, and the tomatoes were fresh and firm...but all that can be lost on poor bread. So it's good that the bread here was up to the task of what was stuffed in it. The bread was soft and chewy but toasted ever so slightly to make it warm and a touch crispy. Over all a great experience...Sure the fries could be better and I'm just an Iced Tea snob, but that gyro was money! I hear rumors that the rest of their menu is equally as good but it's gonna take about 100 crowbars to pry me away from that gyro! Add in the wonderful, wonderful service and you have a small family run business that is worth becoming your favorite go-to eatery!

I had the Greek platter and it was fit for Demeter, the Greek Goddess of food! I felt as if I had climbed Mt. Olympus and sat and dined with Zeus himself. The spinach pie was mesmerizing me, so light and flaky, succulent and moist on the inside, a perfect crust exterior. The moussaka was so airy, as if it was mixed with helium, immaculately delicate that it almost floated off of my plate and the pasittio, rich in flavor, like a thousand angels dancing on your tongue. Green beans on the side, not so much. The staff was superb, witty, funny, with a personal touch from the owners,

I did give Opa a second chance. The dining room was still not cleaned up. It looked like they had no one busing tables. There was about 8 tables not bused. Our waitress did not do a very good job. She might have been new. She did not have any suggestion of what is good on the menu. I had the corned beef hash breakfast skillet. I'll give them credit for not using corned beef hash out of a can. Sadly the corned beef sandwich slices added very little flavor to the dish. The scrambled eggs were over cooked and burnt a bit. It could have been a good dish. Toast came with the dish. I chose rye toast. The toast was hard. I was asked by my friend, "Do you not like the toast?" My response was tapping the hard toast against my plate. The toast made an banging noise. That brought the attention of a man who might have been the owner. He asked, "How is everything?" I really should have told him but I just wanted to leave at that point. I had enough of Opa Grill!

To be fair, Opa Grill just opened today, and perhaps it could be considered poor form to publish a review of a restaurant that is going through opening day jitters. However as my experience was nothing but pleasant, I don't see the point in waiting to review. Really, everything was great minus a couple of very minor and forgivable things: I believe their credit card machine and soda fountain were not yet working. But considering it was opening day I hardly mind paying cash and having my Diet Pepsi poured from a 2-liter. No big whoop. I'm sure those issues will be resolved by the end of the week, if not tomorrow. Opa Grill is yet-another-Greek/American diner to pop up in the Detroit area: This time located at the Northeast corner of 13 mile and Dequindre in Warren (essentially in the Produce Palace parking lot). The location has been home to at least two failed restaurants in recent years--one or perhaps even multiple being Greek/American diners--but I hope this place makes it. The food I tried today was very good. More to come on that. The staff, as well as the owner, were all very personable, welcoming, and friendly. They were helpful about pointing out finer points of the selections on their GIANT menu (the type of daunting culinary novella you have come to expect from a place like this). For example, when I was perusing the menu, my waitress pointed out that both their Greek dressing and Tzatziki sauce are particularly tasty house made specialties. Which helped sell me on my menu selection: Since it was lunchtime I elected to go with the Gyro and small Greek salad combo, for $7.95. The salad came out fairly quickly and all the ingredients were very fresh. And the waitress was correct, the dressing was exceptional. It was pinkish in color and kind of fruit-flavored with just the right amount of vinegary zing. The owner mentioned to me that her husband used to make it for a popular restaurant in Dearborn and then brought the recipe with him. I've had better greek salads in the area, but not many. I'd give this one an A-. They gyro itself was superb. Perfectly seasoned beef/lamb mix that seemed fresh-carved and still a little juicy. No "meat leather" to be had here, as you find at so many other places. Once again, all the veggies were very fresh and applied generously. There must have been a full tomato and nearly a full thin-sliced onion as well. But there was more than enough meat so that it did not get overshadowed out by all the veggies. I could hardly get my mouth around the thing to take a bite, and I have a big mouth. The Tzatziki sauce was awesome, really tied the whole thing together. This was one of the best gyros I've had, and that is a huge compliment, given the over-abundance of Greek diners in the area. The gyro gets an A. As previously stated, I hope this place lasts. I look forward to going back and trying their breakfast, as well as their standard american fare (coneys and burgers and the like), to see how it all stands up against the powerful gyro. There are even some Italian and Mexican and Asian options, which I will probably never try, but are nice to have on there so as to be able to have "something for everyone". There is also a kids menu (which is nice as I have kids) and a senior citizens menu where everything is $6.45, which is kind of cool if you're into that sort of thing.

Our favorite weekend diner breakfast spot. The food is always good and fresh, staff and owner are friendly, and the service is quick. I should check out the dinner menu soon! Edited to add: It is nearly June. Christmas is over, so is Easter. It is time, way past time, to take down the Christmas/Easter tree, the outdoor Christmas lights, the snowman decorations, and the Christmas stuffed animals. Please. I beg you. I commented on it last time I was in to the hostess. I was hoping she would take the kindly mentioned hint.

Okay...it's been open for about a month and had a small article written in the "Madison Park News" so we decided it was time to try it out. We've been to the other restaurants that didn't seem to have much luck at this location and was excited to see that another one was coming. I would give this place more of a 3.5 stars because it really has some potential. When we sat down to look at the menu, I noticed the menu was very similar to "Col's Place" a couple of miles down on 12 mile. Good, decent sized menu which mainly focused on comfort food (Greek, Italian, etc.) standard coney/diner fare. I normally gauge my first visit to a place like this with the quality of the gyro. I ordered the gyro dinner plate which means that the pita is flat with the meat and veggies piled on top with tzatiki sauce on the side. You have the option of just ordering the gyro sandwich as well. The waitress was very friendly, welcoming us to the new establishment and talking a bit about the quality of food, etc. They are very prideful of the fact their gyro meat comes off the "cone" and not pre-sliced. Sauces and dressings are made fresh. I have to say the meat itself was extremely tasty--I could have eaten a plate of it alone with the sauce and had a great meal. And, it was plentiful. So much I ate half of it off the pita so I could make a sandwich. Wasn't impressed with the homemade tzatziki--a little watery for my taste, could have used a bit more cucumber/garlic. Greek salad was pretty standard, looked like bagged salad with plenty of beets, onions and especially feta cheese. Greek dressing was homemade, tasted ok. Only two complaints: when they brought out the bread basket with the salad, there was no butter anywhere to be found, not in the basket nor the table. We could have asked for it but the bread was pretty tasty (although wrapped in sandwich bags) by itself. Lastly, the veggies on the side were a disappointment. Bagged veggie mixture (peas, carrots, beans). It doesn't take much to make some fresh beans or something to go with the dinner, but it was a small thing. Complimentary rice pudding (yummy) ended the dinner. The owner came by and checked on us, welcoming us to her place. Very sweet and nice lady. Lots of potential here--we will probably return often since we shop in the area quite a bit.

Had lunch there on 4/8/2013 - I had the Lamb Shank - moist tender flavorful - vegetables were mixed vegetables - surprise- they were not over cooked an mushy. The lemon rice soup was flavorful but a bit to lemony - no thickeners in the soup. The person I was with had the Gyros and Fries. As noted in another review - it was moist and flavorful. A good portion of meat provided. I will be back. the food eems to be freshly made with quality ingredients.

This place is a classic dinner with a classic dinner menu. With that being said, everything here is reasonably priced and just good ol comfort food! My personal favorites here are: the spinach pie (homemade slices), greek salad, biscuit and gravy, gyro (on the spinner! No processed weird strips) and the opa wrap probably being my favorite! It's very clean inside and the waitstaff is nice. Id recommend this place! :)

We had carry out again. Had a Gyro platter which means more meat and so little meat. Not consistant but better than others I have found.

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
