Ok my fiancé is Latino and we have tried all the Mexican Restaurants practically in the area. We wanted more authentic . Plaza Mexico is ok but you can tell there is some cutting corners . Now this place felt fresh young and colorful. The hostess was sweetheart and our waitress was a doll. They have 4 different salsas which are to die for. I was shocked to only see one couple in there. I over heard the couple say when they left that the food was incredible. We found a new home . I'm going back soon and try something else. Love love love the food here

The service was excellent, and the decor is decent. They don't have a lot of vegetarian options, but their choices in salsas are nice. The place always looks empty, maybe bad location?

The food comes out fast and it is really good. No waiting for salsa, they give you bottles of 4 different fresh salsas. Delicious!

Pleasantly surprised! I heard bad things when Mestizo was there, but now that Mexico City has new ownership I've noticed better reviews. We just got carry out for the first time and it was SO flavorful with big portions and very authentic. It's so hard to find chicken molé at Mexican restaurants and it was delicious. They also make homemade salsa in four different flavors including avocado salsa. The inside is very cute and welcoming as well. I'll be going back! My only suggestion is that the chips could be saltier and crispier but that wasn't enough for me to knock them down to 4 stars. :)

If you are looking for authentic mexican flavor but you dont want to drive all the way the Mexicantown this is the place to be. I am mexican and I am so happy for this place. They have a lot of variety on the menu The green sauce is awesome. My favorite s the torta cubana. And also try the aguas frescas. The service is great

I thought this place was amazing! I came here for the first time with my husband. I must have driven by this place a million times and never knew it was there. It's a small family owned restaurant with excellent service and the food was delicious!

I loved the food! I guess the strongest thing I can say about the place is that I'm looking forward going back and making my way through the rest of the menu. The food was fresh and the bathrooms were even clean! The only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star review was that I think the prices were a little high. Overall, the place is definitely worth a try! It's nice to have some good Mexican food in the neighborhood!

This is a nice little place for lunch. Great, colorful decor and great service. There's a large menu with a lot of good options including breakfast. We'll be back.

I pass this restaurant everyday and was hesitant to try it after we ate at the previous mexican restaurant in this location that was not very good, but Mexico City is Awesome. I dont like Mexican places that use onions in the ground beef and they do not. Taco Tuesday is a great deal.

I remember when this place was a Soul-Mex restaurant, that's when they served soul food and mexican food together (go figure). I used to wonder how did they solicit business because the place always looked empty. Now, since the change to all mexican food, this place is similar to your top mexican restaurants in southwest Detroit. The food is authentic and the waitresses are attentive. I recommend many of my co-workers to try it out for the 1st time and they love it.

I work near here. Decided to try it for lunch and OMG am I glad I did. My lunch partner and I both said this was some of the best Mexican we've had in this area. All the food tasted so fresh. Love all the salsa selections left on the table to use at your discretion. The avocado cream was our favorite. The menu has a great selection of items. And the prices are very reasonable. We spent only $12 total for 2 people. That's a good deal for lunch in this area. We will definitely be back! Just awesome food...all around.

I lived in the Southwest for seven years, so I was desperately hoping for this place to offer the real deal. They come close and they're not perfect, but are a completely viable option when you don't feel like driving to Mexicantown. I had three tacos: pastor, carnitas, y azada. The pastor and azada were tasty, but I was hoping for more flavor from the carnitas. The meat was a bit dry (as was the meat in my friend's dish), but the onion and cilantro were fresh. Service was excellent after we flagged a waitress down to take our order, but it was near closing time (45 minutes) and there didn't appear to be any manager around. I thought that the prices were fair. I am happy to have this restaurant in my neighborhood. I hope that they succeed and obtain a liquor license.

I have an admittedly high bar when it comes to Mexican restaurants. I'd read the reviews of the former occupant of this space, decided to stay clear, and didn't really pay much attention when the name/owner changed. Boy, did I miss out. As Guy would say, this place is the real deal. 4 good salsas come out with the chips, they're all tasty. All the meals were really good and a good value, except maybe the large combo plate that was kind of pricey for what you got. The service was very attentive, perhaps due to the fact that they weren't very busy when we dined. Mexico City is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area, short of going to Mexican village. We will be back to try more dishes.

There are tears of joy running down my face. I am a huge fan of authentic Mexican food (and tex-mex) I have been driving to Novi to get my authentic Mexican fix. I am so happy I decided to give Mexico City a shot! I ordered a torta, it is honestly a pain in the butt thing for me to order because I make it weird (ham, Carne asada, avacado, cheese, and beans) they were very accommodating. Whatever is in their green avacado "salsa" it could pretty much be considered crack. It is amazing. I have only had it one other place, I would eat it with a spoon it's that good. I will definitely be back!!

I love Mexican food and was looking forward to trying this restaurant. It's very, very casual... no booths. Two rooms but hardly any parking at all. The one good thing I can say is that the green sauce was good... other than that the food was dry and bland. Tasteless. The service was good, but noisy because dishes are literally dumped with a big crashing noise into a plastic tub when tables are cleared. Needless to say... there will be no second visit.

This is our favorite mexican restaurant now. They serve you a basket of thin and crispy but never greasy corn chips along with 4 bottles of house made salsa - of differing heat levels. This is delicious! My husband LOVES getting the deep fried FLOUR tortilla tacos stuffed with chorizo and cilantro. Everything they fry here is perfectly done. Never ever greasy! My only negative about this place is their soup. I would highly encourage you to never waste your time on the soup. It's bizarre that everything else is so tasty but their soup is among the worst homemade I've ever had in a restaurant. Aside from the soup, I love the food here.

I highly recommend this restaurant. My friends and I visited Mexico City restaurant last week. We were immediately seated in a table close to the windows. Our server brought us warm chips and four different kinds of salsas. My favorite one was the avocado green salsa. We were told by the server that they had "horchata" water at the very moment this restaurant for sure was going to be my favorite restaurant in the area. I had the tampiquena with corn tortillas. It was really good with avocado salsa on top. As a dessert we shared the flan. Omg it was just perfect after our delightful dinner. The food was great, very clean place, service was okay I will give México city restaurant five stars. Btw our food was ready like in 3 minutes. This restaurant will definitely be our favorite spot.

After driving to Mexican Town every time I need my fix of Tex Mex I finally find this place. It is as good as many of my favs in Texas. Service isn't great and it could use a higher spice level but it is delicious and even more shocking this place is clean. Don't let the name fool you. This isn't central mexican flavor it is authentic Tex Mex.

Great place to eat the burritos are fantastic the fajitas are excellent chimichangas are great as well as all the desserts! This is a sister restaurant to jalapenos in Pontiac which is also fantastic it's good to have a good authentic Mexican restaurant here in Warren

Please YELP PLEASE change the option to no stars, this place was joke, ordered 7 lunch specials for carry out, when we went to pick them up we were then informed that they do not come with the pop that is advertised and/or chips and salsa. The food was nothing special and the services was terrible as well will never go back there again!

We've eaten there three times now within the last month Jan/Feb 2014. It's completely different from the old place, Mestizo, which was a mex/soul food and after eating there once I never went back. This place has new owners and is so much better. It's "real" authentic Mexican food. I finally got to try a real mole sauce with chocolate in it when I ordered the Mole Chicken. Although it was served with a leg and thigh (not my favorite pieces) it was delicious and not available at the other Mexican places around here. The enchiladas were good, tortilla soup was excellent, the tostada's were also very good (not the best I've had but real good), the four different types of salsas really is a great idea. Also had the authentic Mexican style carnitas tacos---EXCELLENT. On every occasion we also ordered the guacamole appetizer and honestly, it's the best I've had in the area. A tad better than Rojas which makes it excellent too. The parking lot is small but there usually is not that big of a dinner crowd....don't know about lunch. The complaints I read about canned beans? Please!!! Dry rice? Every time I had it was moist and good...I put salsa on it any way. I also ordered a pork tamale which was excellent and a chili rellenos which was mediocre. And one other thing, if you don't see it on the menu...ask. I wanted cheese and onion enchilada rojas and I only saw enchilada verde on the menu. I asked and they made them for me no problem.

    (4)
  • Charlie H.

The menu is standard Mexican fare, but the green sauce they have on the table was our favorite. The rest of the salsa's weren't too spicy either but didn't taste as good. I noticed my co-workers' plates were still pretty full when they let the waitress take them away. My Caesar salad was acceptable but lacked a lot of taste. I had to use some of the green salsa for flavor and the Caesar dressing helped as well. They were skimpy on the side offerings with the salad. The parking lot isn't the biggest but the lunchtime crowd wasn't that big.

I can describe this place in two words, Just don't! This is possibly the worst stuff I have ever tried to gag my way through. I love fried flour taco's. Until tonight I thought I could never get enough of them. Oh Boy, was I wrong! If the partially cooked, pan fried flour shells weren't bad enough, the unseasoned browned ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes and 4 shreds of cheese was quite memorable, as in, I never want to experience these again. The canned, tasteless refried beans were simply warmed over canned tasteless refried beans. The "mexican rice" was over-cooked instant rice with yellow food coloring, peas, tomatoes, and carrots. Yep, you read that right. Things seemed to disagree with my husband's digestive system. By the time he got to the bathroom at home, I wasn't sure if I should call for an ambulance, the Haz-Mat team, or a priest. You've Been Warned.

This place is awesome!!! We were hesitant to try it out after the previous place, Mestizo, didnt have great reviews and then went out of business. Then this new place went in, we're so glad we gave it a shot! True authentic Mexican food! That's really hard to find around here without going downtown to Mexican town, so its so nice to have a great place right here in Warren. This is just like the fabulous Mexican food all over California and Texas. The Chile Rellenos are my favorite, they are large and stuffed full with cheese, and the flour tortillas are freshly grilled, thick, and perfect! We love all the salsa choices and warm chips and you must try the fresh made guacamole, its the best around. Husband loves the enchiladas (choice of crumbly cotija mexican cheese or melted cheese) and tacos- we like the "authentic style" with cilantro/onions, but you can also get "american" with shredded lettuce and shredded cheddar. The rice is moist made with a tomato broth and the beans are nice and creamy. The service is great too. They seem to have a lot of take out business, we've seen a steady stream of people picking up orders. We've been in 3 times in a little over a month, its been great everytime! We cant wait to try out their breakfasts, huevos rancheros!!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
