I am not a huge pizza afficionado (the taste to health consequences ratio is not compelling enough for me), but I am a fan of Chicago-style pizza. If Food Channel likes a place, I am certainly willing to give it a go. Since I was hell-bent on trying Detroit-style pizza (a la Wikitravel), I went with the Detroiter. I am a big fan of the crust-deep dish yet still crispy. The pepperonis were nothing special, but all in all this was a pizza that was hard to put down. I took the pizza to go, but waited at the bar while they made it. The bartender seemed to keep a bunch of regulars well-lubricated despite the nasty weather outside. Everyone was super friendly and there are far worse places to spend a Friday night. I certainly want to come back to try other stuff on the menu.

Tried Buddy's for the first time today and all I have to say is wow! I started off with the house salad and the house dressing. That dressing alone was simply wonderful. Then I ordered the margarita pizza and every bite was better than the last. I highly recommend the margarita pizza to anyone, it's so fresh and the crust is so flavorful. Even my picky three year old loved his pizza! I had no complaints about this place and I will recommend it to all my friends. So glad I finally know what all the hype about Buddy's is about! You should definitely experience the deep dish pizza's for yourself!

I can only review their salad and pizza since I can't seem to order anything else there. Their pizza it amazing, I love the crispy square crust and they have a lot of toppings to choose from. Their amtipasto salad is amazing!

Best Gluten-free pizza... ever. If I could, I would eat at Buddy's every day. As a gluten-free, dairy-free dieter by necessity, dining is always stressful and unsatisfying. But Buddy's is the best! Gluten-free pizza with dairy-free cheese is the absolute tops, especially with their fantastic ham and mushroom toppings. They're always careful about avoiding any cross-contamination, so it's great for people with food allergies! I've visited four locations so far, and have always been absolutely happy with the experience. I especially love the Warren location, where the waitstaff are always incredibly nice and efficient. To top it all off, Buddy's has local appeal. They've always got a stock of great Detroit apparel, and are a great reminder of our city's immense food culture. This place is a must!

I m just not a fan of their pizza. For the money we pay, they can at least put some more toppings on the pizza. I ordered a chicken fajita pizza, felt like i got a plain cheese pizza! Overrated and expensive. Will never go back.

A Detroit classic that I enjoy every time I get it. Love the antipasto salad and the pepperoni under the cheese directly on the dough. Only wish they had a location in Clinton Township so I could get Buddy's more often. Here's to Detroit-Style Pizza's finest!

All I can say is WOW! I had no idea that Detroit made good pizza...Square pizza that is semi deep dish.. I had the Sicilian pizza and it was amazing....I had a very good cesar salad first and could only shovel down 2 pieces of pie.. I think even without the salad I would have been fine with 2 pieces.. Atmosphere is fun. I ate at the bar and watched a baseball game with other friendly patrons. The bartenders were also very cordial and on top of things. Anytime I am back in the Detroit area, you bet I will be going to Buddy's!

My second visit at Buddy's was just as good as my first. I'm definitely a fan! Mmmm....baked cheese crust on squared pizza goodness!

After all the hype, i figured i should try it out. The pizza was pretty decent. Overall a good meal. The service was quite good as well, we came in late, an hour before closing. The only issue was the cheese pizza was missing most of the cheese. They claimed it had baked off... Never heard of such a thing, (i worked pizza for several years as well) but none the less, threw a second pizza in the oven to replace it right away and it was on the table in ten minutes. Not the BEST pizza, but i would go back again for sure.

I love this place! Every time I visit family in Michgan Buddy's is one of the places I always hit up. Love the small square cheese pizza and antipasto salad.

After a 4 year hiatus, I decided to take the family out for some of "Detroit's Best Pizza". We got there just in time to watch some football games during the dinner rush. I was surprised at how quickly we were sat. We started out with some drinks, a family sized antipasto salad and some bread sticks. It had been so long in between visits I forgot how much I love the bread sticks. They are extra buttery and topped with grated cheese served with pizza sauce, so good . We got a large super square with pepperoni, ham, mushrooms ,onion and green pepper & a small square with pepperoni for the kids. The pizza was really good, and not as over sauced as I remembered it. Service was great considering how busy they were. I'm not saying anything negative about buddies but I don't crave it as much as I do other pizzerias, I'm not sure why that is, but I would recommend some bread sticks and the antipasto salad for sure.

If you are not from the Detroit area...this is THE place to go for pizza in Metro Detroit. When my uncle used to come to town he'd ALWAYS have to make a trip here! There's also a reason that Buddy's was voted top 10 pizza places by the Food Network in the States! The pizza is of the deep dish persuasion, 4 piece small and 8 piece large. No circles. The sauce is a bit sweet (imo) and is spread on top of the cheese......my mouth waters as I write this review! What I really appreciate about Buddy's is the approach to creating healthier versions of their wonderful pies...They have a 9 grain and also a gluten free crust. I've had the 9 grain and it taste the same as the OG to me but just a bit thinner and not as "airy". If you aren't sold yet the atmosphere is very family friendly (they have clowns, magicians, etc on certain nights). With that said, they do have a small bar but it doesn't take away from the fam feel. If you want to save a few bucks go to their website and click on "discount" for some coupons. If you join their mailing list they'll give you a $5 coupon!

Their bbq chicken pizza was bland. They need to amp up their bbq sauce with some flavor and make it thicker than it's current watery and no-flavor state. If you order bacon as a topping (it's $1.50 per topping for a large pizza), it'd be nice to have more than just a few flakes. It was my first and last time at Buddys. This place is highly overrated. The waitress was very attentive at bringing us refills on the sodas but slow on brining us our check. My fiance ordered extra sauce on the side for his pizza and it was served to him ice cold. Who wants to put cold pizza sauce on a hot pizza? Very odd....His pizza faired better than mine-it actually had a very good flavor (minus the cold sauce). Cloverleaf and the Green Lantern make fantastic bbq chicken pizza.

First time I went here and the gluten free pizza I thought it was truly fabulous. The second time I got a gluten free pizza from here it was so soggy and horrible, I called and complained. They said they'd give me another one for free. Just call when I want it. The third time I got a gf pizza from them it was....meh, and they were quite sparing with the toppings. Clearly they have an issue with consistency, at least when it comes to the gluten free pizzas they serve.

I grew up eating their vegetarian pizza and greek salad. I live in NYC now and shockingly have not found anything that compares. I miss Buddy's!

Sorry, I'm a Loui's (Hazel Park) girl, born and raised. I'm not normally a deep dish fan and if I had my absolute choice it would be Supino's in Detroit but I didn't get to choose tonight. The pizza here is good and ranks right up there with Green Lantern but doesn't hold a candle to Loui's. We had the Detroiter which is simple enough, cheese and pepperoni. Crust was soft and didn't really have that "bite" I was looking for in the edges. Some of the pepperoni was a bit too charred and way too salty for my taste but it certainly wasn't bad. The Greek salad was great but had a few too many starting to turn brown bits of lettuce. The restaurant wasn't too crowded but we did get stuck at a too small table--my husband is well over 6'5 and can hardly fit into some of these crammed tables. No booths were available. We made due. Husband ordered a beer--Oberon seasonal on draught. The beer had a slightly off taste but hubby drank it anyway but wasn't too happy about it. We ended up taking half the pizza home which almost never happens at Loui's but we had leftovers for later. Wasn't a bad experience but I just can't see all the accolades that this place gets.

My favorite pizza ever. Seriously. And they have the best gluten-free pizza we've ever tried (and there have been MANY in multiple states). Best, hands-down. And we've always had great service, both at this location and the Auburn Hills location.

Buddy's is a good place for beer and pizza with the guys. They made the original deep dish pizza and it is tasty. The antipasto is really good and the prices are pretty solid. Definitely worth a visit and a hang out session.

I am from Pittsburgh and was passing through to go to Grand Rapids. Our hotel suggested this place which was convenient since it was next door. The food was excellent.... I loved the spices and my pizza was great (Sicilian spice, tomato basil sauce, chicken, broccoli, and cilantro). My husband got meat lovers that was food too. The only problem was it was slightly slow. I understand because it was so busy but it took a long time to get out check. I love the decor and the staff is so nice and accommodating. I like they help each other out. If another waitress notices that you are low on drinks they will give you another. Overall I definitely recommend!

Yesterday was one of those days where I could've cozied up to a large (round) cheese and pepperoni and quickly inhaled it then gone to sleep while dreaming of onion rings and chocolate bars dancing in my head. Aahh yes...but, instead I thought to myself, better get a salad and some cheesy bread, it'll be better for you and hopefully take away some of your evil cravings.... So I ordered up a medium greek and cheese sticks. In my haze of perusing the menu, I neglected to see that there was buddy bread, with garlic and a dipping sauce, and instead I ordered cheese sticks...deep fried bars of breaded cheese....ickhh....totally NOT what I wanted :-(:'( waaahhhh....haha...so bummed, but whatever, I'm over it. If you couldn't already tell, I'm not a huge fan of the deep fried...no no. The salad was okay. When I popped the lid off to seperate it into two containers (for lunch today) I was taken a back my the extremely pungent odor of the red onion slices that were on top of the salad. Whoa! I was alone, and did a quick underarm check to see if it was me....nope def the onions! Yowza!! I'd be confident in saying it probably wasn't the freshest of salads... Here's where I'm really disappointed with Buddy's - this tiny smorgasbord (sarcasm) I ordered up in hopes of a reasonably sized dinner and lunch for myself cost me $16.50!! That's a bit much if you ask me. Their medium salad states it feeds 4-6 people! 4-6 turtles maybe, but not 4-6 humans...I could've eaten the whole thing as one meal, honestly. Where do they get these serving sizes? Trust me, I had two little salads. $8.99 for a salad, that doesn't contain any meat, some canned veggies, a little bit of cheese and some lettuce is one HELL of a mark up if you ask me! Should've just gotten the pizza! :-/ I'll give Buddy's 3 stars because I really do like their pizza!

Such a letdown. This location needs to be shut down or toss the current staff and replace. Poor, poor customer service, crappy, soggy crust, and it takes forever to get in and out of. Skip this one and head for Dearborn instead.

I have been visiting this restaurant for years. The pizza is always excellent. This is a great pizza place to take your family. I have never ordered anything off the menu besides pizza. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly.

Pizza and breadsticks are fantastic. They are a bit slow so be prepared to sit for over an hour for your entire meal. Make sure you grab a dumdum sucker on the way out!

This was my first time at Buddy's, but I've been hearing so much good stuff about them, calories be damned. The pizza and breadsticks were really, really good. We had one with pineapple. ham, and pepperoni, along with one with pepperoni and mushrooms. Yum, yum. The breadsticks were pretty good too. I got the antipasto salad, and it was just barely ok. Too much salami and very little cheese. I'll pass on it next time. Service was ok. The hostess was a young girl who was CLEARLY not interested in seating people, very lackluster and unfriendly. Our waitress, also a young lady, was just slightly better. I would really love this place if they stepped up their service, we may try it again one day to see if this was just a bad night.

Having grown up on Buddy's pizza just a few miles of the original on 6 Mile & Conant in the 60's, I can't help but being a fan. The pizza has a very unique quality and taste and does not suffer during take out by steaming in the box like other chain's I've tried. I find there are two types of people- those who like Buddy's and those who don't. I've never had a problem with service. Waitstaff have always been courteous and quick. The pizza is pricey. Tips: We order simply- a pizza with one or 2 toppings and the anitpasto salad. Sign up for the e-club and get a free pizza on your birthday! Always check the website for coupons too. The Warren site and the original Conant site are the best. The one near St. John's hospital is hit or miss.

I would recommend Buddy's to anyone. I took my parents and they fell in love too. I highly recommend the antipasto salad, Detroiter and Detroit Zoo pizzas. Ample seating, pleasant atmosphere and the staff was attentive without being overbearing.

Delicious pizza. I was worried that the 4sq would not be big enough for me, but it was plenty. The atmosphere is nice, great place to bring your family. Christy at the bar is great. She had a very unreasonably rude customer at the bar when I arrived. She took care of him very professionally and was a pleasure after he finally left. Again, great pizza. Way better then Louie's.

It was like pulling teeth, but my sister-in-law finally talked me into trying the Greek Specialty Pizza at Buddy's. OMG! It was the best pizza I have ever had! Who would know that feta takes on a whole new wonderful taste when it is melted on top of a pizza? I don't think I will ever order anything else at Buddy's. It was amazing. Our server, Renee, was very attentive to our needs. It took a little extra from her because I brought a friend who has celiac disease and everything had to be gluten free. She had her own gluten-free pizza and we learned that Buddy's house dressing is also gluten free. What a wonderful lunch!!! We're going to start going here more oftern. Renee brought us some coupons that are good for half off when we come again. I think Renee is the best server we've had so far. She was great and very knowledgable on menu items and gluten-free entrees.

For the overall best Detroit Pizza experience, this is it for me. Don't expect fancy. Expect a sports bars that looks like any normal loud sports bar. I've mostly had great service here. Recommendations: Pizza Antipasto or Greek salad (I love their olives) Beer or wine

Don't go to buddy's pizza. Terrible terrible service. We asked for a table of 11 or two tables of 5 and 6. We were told that they were waiting for a table to clear because they were almost done. This was a lie. The people were not ready to leave. Over an hour wait to get a table. Hostess kept saying the table would be ready soon. Other people came in after us and were seated before us. If the managers knew how poorly run this location was they would fire people.

Buddy's is amazing detroit style pizza, simply the best. the cheese is of a higher quality, it comes from somewhere in Wisconsin, though i can't remember where. we usually only order pizza's, and we love it that they always ask you how it looks and show it to you before you buy it. we've also taken friends there and they were really impressed with the atmophere. my friend ordered the lasagna and it looked really good. by far my favorite pizza place in all of michigan.

I've had the opportunity to travel around quite a bit and i still can't find a place that is better than Buddy's. It is a little pricy, but you get what you pay for. The best pizza not just in Michigan but I can say in the world!

  • Call Me M.

First time ordering with Buddy's a week ago. Ordered a pizza for pickup. The service over the phone was fine, and the pizza was ready when I arrived. They had free Dum-Dums at the counter, and the young lady at the desk was personable. The pizza looked fine when she showed it to me. When I got home, however, I noticed the pizza was severely overcooked; the bread was hard and tough, and the cheese was burnt. I'm hoping this was a one time accident; I'd hate for this to happen a second time, as I'd reconsider my options when it came to ordering pizza.

After a failed attempt at Shields Pizza we ended up at this Buddy's with our large party. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very friendly. Ordered the Hawaiian and the Meat Lovers pizza. Both were fantastically good. I'm glad to have ended up here today, even if it wasn't the original plan!

Was here for lunch today with a friend. As usual, the antipasto salad & margherita pizza was Great! Food and service is consistently good here. I've been a Buddy's fan since I was 8, when my dad used to take us to the original location, and going to this location for at least 20 yrs. You're missing out if you've never been!

Lets start off with the fact I really don't like pizza all that much, just never have. But Buddy's still stand outs to me. If u want a good slice of square pizza this is the place to go in Warren. They are known for their 4 or 8 piece square pizza. My workplace often gets the Super, and always seems to enjoy it. I usually grab the Individual Antipasto or Greek, which always seem to be huge, and very fresh. I assume the salads are so fresh because they are so busy! There is always a line in the takeout area. It is nice they have the takeout area for people, because it definitely clears up the area by the hostess stand. My coworker always gets the Ultimate Macaroni & Cheese, and she always raves about how delicious it is. Never tried it, but she seems to get that over pizza every time. Also Buddy's is a great place to hold a fundraiser! I was just there about a month ago for a breast cancer event. They really accommodated everyone there. The servers got everyone drinks from the bar, while another server was continually loading out fresh salad and pizza. I was told by my friend that they were given an awesome deal and ended up raising some good money. This was good information to me since I am on the board of a nonprofit. Buddy's also has their price list for big parties right on the back of their menu's. The reason I didn't give them the entire 5 stars was because of the price, I get it is fresh and great pizza, but it still seems a little pricey. If you want some great pizza stop by or get takeout, it will be worth it. There hours are Mon-Thurs 11-10pm, Friday 11-11pm, Saturday 12-11pm &, Sunday 12-10pm. # is 586-574-9200.

Great pizza tonight at Buddy's! We had a family size Greek salad with all the fixins....so yummy! My husband and I had a wheat crust pizza with pepperoni, green olives, and jalepenos. Wonderful! The kids were happy with a classic pepperoni. The waitress was a bit absent, but came and apologized for being occupied with two bigger parties. We lacked for nothing, and the food was wonderful!

They are all right, Buddy's is the best square pizza Ive ever had, and I have lived from BK to LA, not the best pizza in the US but its pretty darn close. I would definitely recommend Buddy's!!!!

  • Eric K.

Excellent pizza, and it's especially a treat if you've been out of the state for a while and you come back to gorge on Buddy's salads and pizza. Resist the urge to order tons of toppings for your pizza here. Just get one or two toppings, or none at all, so you can savor the unique combination of crust, cheese, and sauce. Many people rave about the antipasto salad at Buddy's. The salad is good, to be sure, but the main event is without a doubt the pizza. I limit myself to just one plate of antipasto salad so I can stuff my face with more pizza -- and preferably the corner pieces, with more chewy crust. One other nice thing about this Buddy's branch is that no matter how old you think you look, you'll almost always be carded, even for a small glass of Labatt. It makes you feel special and cared for. Pitchers of domestic beer are a pretty good value to share around the table. If you happen to have brought someone from the west side along with you, Buddy's has a very respectable selection of imports and premium beers that should satisfy them. Buddy's take-out tastes the same as the food served in the sit-down portion of the restaurant, but for me, eating in the actual dining area, with the sports memorabilia and local clientele, adds one or two points to the experience. Before you go here, take a quick scan of the local newspapers you have laying around, and you should always be able to find some coupons for pizza and salad.

What can you say about a Detroit institution that hasn't already been said? The pizza is the best (try the Margherita for something different) and the salad is perfect. The service is usually spot on (hope you get the girl with the beehive) all around the best "Detroit" style pizza.

  • Rudy R.

Typical of long-running establishments: overrated. Half the time you get pizza here at this location, the dough is undercooked. We've stopped coming here for that reason. A true "Detroit style" pizza has a thick but airy crust, not a solid hunk of heavy dough like Buddy's. Cloverleaf's is a little better (when they, too, decide to cook it all the way), and the two former Cloverleaf carry-out locations have both of these beat with a true authentic recipe. Salads are average at best. Atmosphere miserable--who needs all the TVs blaring when everyone has to yell over them to carry on a conversation? Buddy's is living on the name now. There's better out there. Far better. Overrated and tired. Two stars.

1st time here and will definitely return next time I am passing through Detroit! The pizza was to die for and the wings were delicious as well! Service was ok, but the food made up for it!

I grew up in Chicago and while not Chicago pizza (Sorry Buddy's), still one of the two best pizzas I have encountered outside of Chicago. While the place is usually packed, they do a great job of seating their customers, so don't let the full parking lot scare you away. FYI, there is a reason it is usually full.

  • Stephen K.

Visited the area and carried out for the first time. Ordered the 8 square with pepperoni and banana peppers. Pizza is about 1 inch thick, more than half of it is the bread. The bread is very delicious. I felt like it was almost like garlic bread on pizza. Cheese is good as well. Pizza is unique compared to chicago pizza. Definitely would go back if I'm in the area again.

Service was horrible, some of the staff were extremely impolite and rude. I felt The all-you-can eat pizza and salad is a scam, because they loaded us up on salad and breadsticks, and were stingy on the pizza. When I had ordered an additional pizza, they said it would be made. After 30 minutes, they never made the pizza and I ended up only eating 1 slice of pizza the whole time because I didn't want to load up on salad or breadsticks. The pizza I wanted was never made! When asked, the staff then came out and warned us not to take any of the pizza out. The all-you-can-eat is not a good deal, and the pizza is very small. I never liked the overall quality of the food and it is always overpriced. If you do partake in the all-you-can-eat, I recommend bringing discrete containers to store extra slices because they give you attitude about bringing pizza home even though it might sight out in the open. The only way I will eat at Buddy's is for office functions, otherwise I will avoid them for their overpriced food and low quality service and I don't see any value in their food.

I went there for their gluten free pizza. It was soggy and gross. Their antipasto salad, however is the BEST!!!

Despite not really eating pizza anymore (as I try to avoid the carbs), I still frequent Buddy's often. What else can be said about their pizza that the other reviewers have not said already? It is truly an original. This is the best Detroit style pizza around. Oh, and yes, Detroit does have its own style of pizza. Check Wikipedia. I digress. Anyway, I would argue that it is the best pizza in Michigan. In fact, when I have colleagues in town from New York and Chicago, cities known for their pizza, they want to visit Buddy's. Over the years, I have been pleasantly surprised by a few of their offerings. First, their BBQ Chicken pizza blew me away. It took a lot of convincing for me to stray away from the traditionally topped pies. Not because I do not like to try new things, but because their standard items are so fantastic. In addition, I normally despise BBQ chicken pizza. I have not found one elsewhere that I enjoy. The one at Buddy's, however, is amazing. The sweet BBQ sauce, red onions, and cilantro combine to form some sort of miraculous, eyeopening potion full of flavor. I grew up under the assumption that it was sacrilegious to order any salad at Buddy's besides their antipasto. There is good reason for that thinking; their antipasto is simply delectable. At the risk of displeasing the gods, I tried their Caesar salad. I could not believe how good it was. I had been missing out for years! Their salad is on par with the Caesar salad at Mr. Paul's Chophouse, sans the waiter making it at your table. The dressing is thick and creamy. I really cannot get enough of it. In fact, it is a staple in my diet. I usually carry-in at least one Buddy's Caesar salad a week. One of these days, I am going to force myself to try their Greek salad; another item marked as a Buddy's Signature Selection. Buddy's now sells hamburgers. These things sound great. They are made with a ground chuck/steak mixture delivered daily from Eastern Market. I look forward to trying one as I'm hoping Buddy's will unexpectedly surprise me once again with another toothsome nugget. If you have been to Buddy's you'll share my favorable opinions. If you have not been to Buddy's, do yourself a favor and try them. Perhaps, you will be delightfully surprised, too.

Went on a Friday night, at 6pm, parking lot was full and expected (and willing) to wait...walked right in and got a table for 6 people! Their pizza is great. It really is a Detroit original! Tried the multi grain crust and enjoyed it! We had a bit of an issue with our salad......a huge long hair issue....but management took it off our bill, and table, immediately. (there was a hair right on top of the salad, before any of us ate it...and to prevent it happening with all of our food again, they remade the whole order, which was very nice of them.) I have only ever had pizza there, but friends had the chicken parm, and it was huge! and covered with a crusty layer of bubbly cheese. Looked amazing, they said it was great, and there was plenty left over. Good place for a family or group of friends.

The Detroiter is what makes me a fan! Nothing like the real Louie's but they are very close considering they started the same.

Buddy's Pizza has been a staple of Michigan residents for generations now. The detroit style deep dish pizza is wonderful. They do it a little different by putting the sauce on top it seems like. The crust is always crunchy and the cheese is gooey. The only downfall of this spot is the service (sometimes). I've had great experiences, but I've had so-so experiences. That is the only reason for the 4-star rating. The flavor and taste is definitely 5 star.

Buddy's Pizza, I hope you forgive me for not writing sooner. I guess I just figured all of the reviews before me have said it all. Let's make this short: brick cheese, soy cheese, The Detroiter, Buddy's bread, Antipasto Salad, crust so good a single pizza tear runs gently down my cheek with every bite, tomato topping (whole slice on every piece of pizza), garlic topping (whole cloves), brick cheese, brick cheese, brick cheese. Sometimes at work I sit and daydream about these pies. Don't tell my boss that, though.

I'm not going to say anything that hasn't been said before... BEST PIZZA EVER. I've been visiting this place since I can remember. Now that I live out of state, when I do visit the Detroit area, this is a stop that has to be made. This time I actually bought four "half baked" pizza's froze them and brought them home. Cooked a few slices up yesterday, just as good as strait out of their oven.

I was in town for business so decided to try Buddy's as it was right down the street from my hotel. I was NOTNOTNOT impressed. First of all, I ordered carry out and brought it back to my hotel; the restaurant forgot to add a few items to my order. I ordered a turkey burger, fries, and a side salad. First of all the burger bun was very dry. The actual turkey burger was ok, but they forgot to put the side of dijon sauce in the bag. I also did not receive the side of dill chips. The side salad was merely iceberg lettuce (of which was a little wilty) with three small cherry tomatoes. The fries were soggy and cold. Also, they did not include silverware (which I asked for). It's too bad...I was looking forward to a good meal. I'd advise anyone to find a different restaurant in the area.

Thank you again, fellow Yelpers, for a terrific recommendation! I found myself alone in Warren, MI, on business with no idea where to eat. I knew just where to turn...yep, Yelp. I wasn't in the mood for anything in particular so pizza sounded as good as anything else. Buddy's had the best ratings and I just happened to be staying right down the street. Excellent. I entered and was greeted right away and took a seat at the bar right inside. The bartender helped me right away, going over the menu with me since I had never been there before. I decided to get the pizza to go since I had just driven four hours and wanted to relax in the comfort of my hotel room. I got a beer and waited for my "four square" sausage, onion, and black olive pizza. The Oscar pre-show was on so I settled into the comfortable environment to wait. The bartender was very attentive and made me feel welcome. It didn't take long for my pizza to come up but I wasn't done with my second Blue Moon so the bartender volunteered to put it under the warmer...it's the little things that count! As soon as I was ready to go she grabbed my pizza and all the accompanyments (plates, forks, parm cheese) and sent me on my way. As soon as I got back to the hotel I dug into that pizza. It was phenomenal. It was a rectangular pizza...a four square, meaning four pieces. BIG pieces. The cheese around the outside was crusty...delicious. The crust was kind of doughy. It was so good...I didn't want to stop eating it but at some point you have to know when enough is enough. Buddy's was a great experience from the atmosphere to the service to the food. Go there and eat.

I had just had dinner at the 13 mile location. We had a group of 9 of us. The dinner was 3 large sq and to 2 anti pasta salads. The group I was with make the visit a great time and long with a very good waitress. The pizza was not the best but not the worst, very salty and not a great sauce it was lacking flavor. The cheese was Good and a lot of it. Gut I came for pizza not a cheese sandwich. I don't understand how this pizza is rated so high. I think the pizza at the Green Lantern is a much better pizza. Sorry it's just not very good

Consistently happy with this location. Today, they brought underwhelming bread sticks... And minutes later brought a new delicious batch and apologized. That's service! Service is also consistently good. Pizza is higher than average price, but coupons can easily be found to bring the price down close to average. Love coming here, even if it's usually just for events or rewards.

Always loved this place especially the 6 mile Conant location however, this 13/Van Dyke location always gives me poor service and mediocre food. The last two times there I got sick from from the food, First time by myself and just recently me and my 3 children all had to leave and immediately visit the rest room. I will not return for a third.

We ordered take out. 16 Wings ($14.99) and garlic bread with cheese. It was ready in 10 min. The wings are breaded. We asked for extra crispy but did not get it like that. They were soggy. Hot wings were not that hot. Mild was mild. The wings seemed to be marinated in garlic or something. The taste is decent but it gets old fast and i kept burping up that taste--yuck. Blue cheese was nice and chunky but it too tasted garlicky. We only received 3 pieces of garlic bread--what a rip off. It was good but they burnt one part of it. Overall, I wasn't that impressed. It seems overpriced for what you get.

Favorite pizza place hands down. I've been coming to Buddy's since I was a baby. Any of the locations in the Detroit area are great. The pizza has often been imitated bit never duplicated. The crust, the toppings, the sauce = perfection! The true original Detroit Style pizza started here. I'm a huge pizza snob (you can see from my other reviews) and Buddy's is the reigning champ in Michigan.

This is everything Sicilian (American-Sicilian at least) pizza should be. The sharp angles give you perfect rectangular slices with crisp edges with such an amazing buttery flavor you'd think they actually butter the slices before serving them. The toppings aren't anything gourmet or fancy. But you are here for the crust and the consistency. One bite took my Dad back to a night twenty years ago. And when you have been doing something this well for that long you really have no reason to change anything.

We recently moved in down the street and heard how great Buddy's pizza was. Last week my husband ordered it with his friends and they all really liked it. So this week the rest of the family and I moved in and my husband suggested we order Buddy's. What a disappointment. He said this was not the same pizza he had a week earlier. There was very very little sauce. On the whole pizza there wasn't even enough sauce that would adequately cover one slice let alone the entire pizza. There was also no cheese. Not even a shred. We ordered a cheese pizza, how is there no cheese on it? We were really bummed that all we ate was bread. It's a shame because we really love pizza and moved in right down the street. They must be capable of making it correctly because my husband had just had it a week earlier. When I inquired about the lack of sauce and cheese I was told "That's how we make our pizza" so needless to say, we won't be ordering from them again.

It was average. The Buddy Bread was bland, chewy with came with equally bland marinara sauce. The pizza was decent.... there was nothing wrong with it, but nothing to rave about, either. Our waitress was rushed but polite. I thought the prices were a little steep given the quality. Overall I found Buddy's to be highly overrated. I'll give them credit for offering Michigan beers, though!

At the risk of sounding redundant, if you're looking for the best deep-dish, square pizza in the metro Detroit you need not search any further. I've been going to this location for several years and went to Buddy's Rendezvous on Conant and Six Mile before that. The restaurant is cozy and casual. We went here last month using a Dinner With Buddy's certificate (8 Square Two Topping Pizza and Family Sized Antipasto, Greek or House Salad) which fed our party of four for 23.99. We also had the Veggie Sampler and the Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. I highly recommend all. And because I registered for their Email Club and dined at Buddy's for my birthday I got a free 4 Square Cheese Pizza. They've added specialty pizzas and a variety of items to their menu over the years but I can't seem to order anything but "Detroit's Original Square Pizza." I'll try The Detroiter or one of their oven-baked pastas the next time. If you're going to Buddy's for the first time don't get chicken wings or a burger: get the pizza they are famous for.

Followed my YELPERS reviews and was very disappointed. I'm from the east coast, CT, to be exact. We have excellent food and pizza. I ordered the "Detroiter" which is a Pepperoni pizza. Why does a Pepperoni pizza have a special name here? Anyway, the crust was not crunchy at all and the pizza was flimsy and the flavor was lacking. I had Jet's pizza 3 weeks ago and prefer that to this, but neither are anything to brag about. I got a side salad with the house dressing, which is red vinegar with oil (not evoo), maybe a 2nd press oil at best, and no herbs/spices. Very bland. I'm giving people in Detroit a pass here. Maybe, you just haven't had good pizza and this is all you know. Go to the east coast and have a slice, it will change your perspective.

Whenever my work sends me to Sterling Heights, I make a bee-line for Buddy's. Their salad is fabulous as is their Detroiter pizza. I am addicted to both. But i may stop coming here due to the fact that I often dine alone and I am SICK and tired of the hostesses rudely suggesting I sit at the bar. Am I not good enoygh to spare a table for? This has happened every time and honestly I find it insulting.

This is seriously my favorite restaurant in the entire world. I have eaten at some really high-end restaurants in Europe and the U.S. in my life, but I love Buddy's! I grew up in Warren and it was always my favorite. Every time I come home, I make my family go there. We went on Friday night and had the amazing deep dish pizza with salad and breadsticks. SOOOOOOO good! If you're in the area, definitely stop by!

We've been to Buddy's numerous times over the years and have never been disappointed in the food. We really love the pizza, especially with spicy beef, feta cheese and spinach. It's the reason we come here! The home made chicken dumpling soup is delicious, as are the salads. We'll keep coming back!

I think buddies is only famous for their pizza because it's all for the old-school Detroiters. The pizza bread is so thick there's barely any topping on it. It's very expensive for the amount you get. I do on the onion think that the meatball is very good that's probably about the only thing actually really like there. The garlic bread I think is very bland. It wouldn't stop me from going to buddies but I definitely would not pick it if I wanted some pizza. I do think it's an old staple that maybe you should venture to once but it's not something I would definitely become a regular at.

My 502nd visit to a Buddy's and still I tried something new. Really! The thin crust pizza has been around for a little while but I'm a fan of the thick pizza. Had the antipasto salad and thin crust with pepperoni and sausage. I liked it and it's better for me as there's less white bread. Will have it again if somebody I'm with prefers the thin crust. The usual friendly staff at this location that I have come to love. Nice lunch stop when I'm in the area.

Disclaimer: I only get take out here, so I cannot expand upon the restaurant experience. I always get the same thing, 8-Square Pizza and Buddys Bread. I am more of a handtossed pizza person. However, Buddy's has opened my mind to pan pizza. It's delicious. Buddy's bread is bascially a slightly better version than Little Ceasar's breadsticks. It's pizza, so, I rate it on that fact. Buddys does pizza very well.
