At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

I haven't been to Applebee's in years. A few greasy steaks made me head for Chili's. I received a gift certificate and I went back. My goodness, what a surprise. I had one of the best chicken dinners I've ever had. I can't recall the name of the chicken dinner I ordered, but it was marked "new" on the menu and had portebello mushrooms. I loved it. Applebee's deserves another chance and I'll be going back to try some of the other dishes. Service was okay. Nothing to complain or cheer about. The coffee was fresh and delicious and servers made sure it was topped off and warmed up for me.

About the best Applebee's experience I've had which isn't saying much. I have not had but maybe 2 good experiences out of many.

I am not a fan of Applebee's, but I thought I would give them another chance. We went for evening happy hour (drink specials and half off appetizers -nice) but none of the appetizers were really appealing and the service was appalling. No one greeted us at the door or seated us, so we seated ourselves. And while it was not that crowded it took 15 minutes to get our drinks delivered and we rarely saw our waitress. We felt completely ignored, our ordered got messed up and the service just seemed to have an attitude. This solidified my dislike for this awful chain restaurant.

I must first admit that I usually don't care for these types of dining establishments (Friday's, Ruby Tuesday's, Chili's ...) but this Applebees really sucked. The waitress was nice enough, but just wasn't a very good waitress nor was she attentive. After being seated we were handed off to several people. You never really know who your wait person is. Seemed like we had two or three, plus someone different that brought the food out. The first round of appetizers were pretty good: the spicy shrimp and chicken quesadilas. I then ordered another round of the shrimp and bit into one that was raw. The manager did come over to our table to apologize and she said they would take it off our bill. (I wasn't going to eat it or pay for it anyways) The drinks were decent but nothing special. I don't think I'll ever be dining at any Applebees again. I will stick to my faves like Mon Jin Lau, The Limelight Bar, Tipsy McStaggers..... They definitely need to train their staff on the finer points of waiting on patrons.

Food was ok. Service not so much. Everyone but 1 person at our table got their food. We were done eating when they finally got their food and asked waiter for a box to take home. Waiter was rude and wouldn't do anything to accommodate us. Another restaurant we will not be returning too!
(2)Kevin S.
Absolutely horrible to say the least. Totally unorganized and rude servers. We sat at 12 pm and got our food over an hour after ordering and they were soups/salad. Nobody apologized and the server acted like it didn't happen. Don't go here if you don't want to be STRESSED. Definitely don't go there if you only have an hour for lunch.

I got a gift card for Applebee's for my bday so I decided to use it but we went out of our way to drive to the 12 mile and van dyke location because we have had some outrageous experiences at the 13 and gratiot location. I wanna start by saying I'm a waitress and my boyfriend is a restaurant manager so we aren't too crazy with expectations because we understand situations in a restaurant.. But we also notice everything. Our waitress was nice but slow. She had no sense of urgency or any system in place. The food was pretty good, but took forever. Another waitress finally cleared our plates 10-15 mins after we finished eating and when our waitress did come to ask about dessert, we waited another 10 mins for our check. We shouldn't wait 20-25 mins after we're done eating to leave. Overall the food was good, the service was extremely slow and the place was dirty. there was a cluster of dead flies right next to me on the window, and my waitress handed me an A1 bottle dripping with crusty, old sauce under the cap, all of which grossed me out and contributed to our experience. It won't be my first place to choose when I go out to eat.

They recently remodeled and added options to the menu. All the previous reviewers should come back and give it another shot

I was waivering on whether to give them a 3 or 4. So, as a rule of thumb that we learned, don't order takeout here. It's just not good. And some things cannot be helped. If you order fries, for example, to go, they will be soggier. This is because they are packaged hot and the moisture builds up in the to-go container. Also, Applebees takeout is SLOW. If they tell you 25 minutes, prepare for 45. But, my wife and I didn't know what we wanted to eat the other night, so we went to Applebees. They have a variety of things. I will go back. Their appetizers are 3 for 12. And they don't limit which appetizers you can put on your 'sampler'. Well done, that's what I want to see in a sampler. Let me pick out what I want to eat. So, A+ for that. I got a Maple Bacon Chicken wrap. And it was delicious. The service was pretty good. I have no complaints for going this past time. So, in a 'wrap', don't do to go services, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
(4)Al W.
Worst service and food ever! You will wait hours, and your food will still he cold. The wait staff obviously doesn't want to be here either.
(1)Dean V.
My friend loves going to Applebee's but I am always hesitant. The drinks are usually pretty good but I find the food prep to always leave me wondering if it's cooked to order or microwaved from a carton. I just don't know.
(2)Matthew K.
Disappointing food, standard service. We went there for lunch, and got the pretzels appetizer, and the half-salad, half-entrée lunches. Sandwich had soggy bread, lunchmeat-from-Walmart quality meat, and bottled BBQ sauce. Fajita wrap was unseasoned. Onion soup was a salty mess. Worst part was the obscene amount of calories in the lackluster lunch. Yuck, never going back again.
(2)M J.
I really enjoyed every bit of meal and although my server was new.....he did an outstanding job.
(4)Stephanie W.
Worst. Service. Ever. We were there 2 hours and still only received one meal. We couldnt get refills on our beverages. We actually had to get up to go find our waitress. We found the manager instead. Never going back.
