Thank you, yelp and Molida, I am forever indebted to you for introducing me to Tom Sushi. The bf (newly recruited as my yelp photographer - yelp elite 2014, I'm coming for you!!) and I came today and are so glad we did!! Here's how it works: go in, look at the menu, place an order, and grab a seat. Your food will come out to your table, but you are responsible for bussing your own dishes. We tried: -tempura udon: i hate soggy tempura in my udon and always request for it on the side, but Tom Sushi actually serves it to you on the side!! Score. A very generous portion of tempura, and the broth was good, as well. -salmon nigiri -yellowtail sushi nuggets: good and reasonably priced for 5/$5.95, but the bf said he'll stick to regular nigiri next time for more fish. -shrimp tempura nuggets: shrimp tempura on top of a ball of rice wrapped with seaweed...it's fun to eat, and delicious too! -karaage nuggets: OMG..if this place made karaage and only karaage, I'd order that and be the happiest girl. Best. Karaage. Ever. Seriously, I'm coming back and ordering 5 orders of sushi nuggets just to eat it. Pro tip: if you get too full bc you ordered too much, eat the karaage and not the rice ;) -miso soup: delicious way to start all my Japanese meals!! I hate when it comes out too hot and burns my tongue, but it was the perfect temp for me, but others may find it too lukewarm for their liking -chicken teriyaki bowl: the chicken was so good, juicy, and not the least bit dry. Very generous portions, too. All that (and a coke) for $40!!! I was such a happy camper. So glad I found this place. They've only been open a month, so I definitely recommend you give this place a try. Sweet owners who are so thoughtful and gracious to their customers, delicious food, dirt cheap prices!! Ps: make sure to read Molida's review too..that's how I figured out where the restaurant was located!

Sushi is one of my favorite foods so I'm constantly looking for places to get my fix. Tom Sushi has met my need for good sushi. Tom Sushi sits in the King's Row Plaza on Rochester Road near East Long Lake Road. It is a quaint joint with seats enough for only 16 people at the peak of business hours. Although you can sit down and eat, you have to place your order at the counter and pay before you get your meal. For those who are into crazy combinations of rolls, this is not the place for you. They stick to the basics and do a pretty damn good job. Today my family and I ordered a teriyaki chicken bowl, salmon oyako bowl, shrimp tempura nuggets, a Michigan roll, spider roll, and two fountain drinks. The price blew me away. For all those items, the total after tax was $37.18. You also don't pay for tip since you serve yourself besides the staff bringing the food to your table. There is a tip jar however at the register if you want to tip. The entire restaurant was clean, even the bathroom. The cashier was very friendly and patient as we were new customers and had a hard time deciding what to order. We also walked in 45 minutes before they were closing, but we did not feel rushed at all. The rice in the bowls and the sushi rolls was perfectly soft, yet chewy and not too acidic. The teriyaki sauce had a delicious sweetness to it without overpowering the whole dish and the chicken was grilled to perfection. The main star though was the salmon oyako bowl. It had strips of crispy salmon skin, huge pieces of fresh salmon, salmon roe, avocado, cucumber, and pickled ginger. This alone is worth going to Tom Sushi for. The other rolls that I ordered were standard but done well. The shrimp tempura nugget was something new to me though. There were deep fried pieces of shrimp on top of a ball of rice wrapped with nori. The tempura shrimp was not rolled straight and deep fried in panko...just regular shrimp dipped into a thick batter and fried. It was pretty tasty though. I mean how can you go wrong with deep fried shrimp? All in all, I'd say I had a great experience at Tomo and will be back quite often.

Tom's Sushi is kind of in an obscure place in a strip mall set back a bit. I have not had their sushi but really enjoy their hot foods. Their karsudon is very good and so are their lunch boxes. It is authentic Japanese food :-). They should advertise on Groupon or other media to increase patrons as they only opened 9 months ago. Try it, you'll like it!

Just ate at Tom Sushi for the first time. The sushi was really good. The Gyoza was also very good. We got carry out, ordering on line was extremely simple. The was ready about 5 minutes after we got there. I will be going back for sure to try some of the noodle dishes like the udon or the ramen and eating in the restaurant. Very reasonably priced for sushi, even though the quality was high.

The online ordering is very easy. I ordered right from my phone without issue. The food was very good. The teriyaki chicken and the sushi nuggets were a hit.

Been here numerous times, it is all about the food. It is our ramen, donburi place. (Rice bowls). It is our default sushi place Great carryout with a small clean dining area with self serve tea and water. Not 5 star sushi, and shasimi, but fresh and tasty. 4 stars for the sushi and shasimi 5 stars for ramen, udon, and donburi (rice bowls). The best kastsu-don and beef bowls east of Woodward. No wait staff, but food is prepared quickly and to order. Sometimes you go up and get it from the counter, but usually they bring it to the table. Please remember to clean up your table when you finish.

What are the hours? Because they're not open at the time that it says it should be on yelp and there are no hours of operations on the doors. And if you call the number on yelp, it does not recieve incoming calls. Sooooo.... yea.

I really love the food here. When you see a line of Japanese business men, you know you're getting the real deal! I drop the one star because I'm not there biggest fan or ramyun. Perhaps I'm just really fixed in the instant packs.... Yikes! But other than that, the bowls and sushi and even the vegetarian options are FAB!

Been a fan of ramen, and don't forget to check out the SkokuGan collection by the entrance.

What a great little Japanese café. The space is small with several tables and a counter against the window with stools to eat in. While the decor is basic, there are some fun lanterns and a case of miniatures that are bright and fun. During my first visit I ordered a bento box to go. It was good, though I was not a fan of the pickled items, but this may have just been a personal preference. I also was not huge on the veg corroke that came in the box. I also tried their California roll nuggets and a couple pieces of sashimi. The California nuggets were different. A ball of rice with the items on the inside. They also had other types of nuggets, I tried the salmon on another occasion. These were also balls of rice with a small piece of fish on top and a dot of wasabi between. While I'm sure they were not at all traditional, but I thought they were fun. I think they would be a good introductory items for those new/nervous about sushi or for kids. The regular sized sushi was fresh. They do not have a large sushi menu, but better to do a few items well. During my first visit there was a young Japanese family and they told me they were regulars. They go for the Ramen. So of course I had to come back to try it. I tried the Tom Ramen, which is seasoned ground pork in a miso broth with green onion. There are spicy and non spicy options. Their recommendation was spot on, the Ramen was great. You order at the counter. If you eat in, the food will be brought out to you, but you need to take care of the bowls/utensils after. They have a drink/utensil station off to the side where hot tea and water are self serve. The small staff is friendly and the wait for food is generally short. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other noodle options.

Best kept secret on Rochester rd. When you're looking for no-frills Japanese lunch or dinner this place fits the bill. This is comfort food.

The food here is great. Really authentic rice bowls and noodle dishes. Tastes a lot like what I had in Japan. Best curry bowl in the area.

This is more of a pick up sushi place than a dine in. The inside is a little bit strange when it comes to the restaurant. You have to go up and order as well as pick up your food at the counter which is off putting. That being said. . The sushi is pretty good, very fresh. I would say that you're doing to get a better deal with a combo than a special roll

Had the Salmon Oyako bowl today. Salmon skin was a bit burnt but eberything else was perfect. I asked what the difference was between the dish here and the one at SushiDo and he said theyre pretty much the same. But the slices of salmon sashimi were much more consistent, clean cuts which were well placed and the plating in general was a lot cleaner. I think I prefer this one over the one at SushiDo's :)
