we came here for dessert fondue; the food itself was okay, but the two stars is for the service. we came in on a weekend night, and i was surprised to find it so packed, since the location is kind of hidden. anyway since there was a wait for a table, we chose bar seating instead. the bartender was awful. he was slow and unattentive, but that wasnt what really bothered me. when another party of two girls also came for some dessert fondue, he became all cheerful and smiley (i was with my husband). and he was cracking jokes and everything with them, but he still barely acknowledged us...i hope my husband didnt tip him, because if it was up to me, he wouldnt deserve any. not to mention, when he gave us the menu he practically threw it at us...

My family I (party of 4) enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this Melting Pot location this past weekend. There are many great reviews about the food here, but I would like to take the time to share my experience in regards to the staff. After enjoying a show at the Detroit Opera House we decided to travel to Troy for dinner. I called the location and asked about a wait, and a friend hostess took a reservation with no problem. We were seated shortly after arriving and the hostess was very friendly. Asking about the play we saw and if my children enjoyed the show. Our waitress was amazing. Tiffanie was so knowledgeable and friendly. She also asked about the show. She included my children, asking if they wanted to help prepare the cheese fondue course. Throughout the meal the manager checked in on our table twice was also very friendly. The food was very good. Yes, it is a pricey location to eat, but the wonderful customer service is what will bring me back to the Troy Melting Pot again in the future.

Went for a date night and was a little disappointed as the restaurant didn't have as much of a romantic feel as I expected. We also didn't realize how much work went into the fondue experience and didn't feel it was worth the pricey menu. I usually really love a place or I just don't like it. The Melting Pot was my first experience where I don't know what to think. I guess I should start out by saying that I thought it was a romantic spot and so I chose this for our date night and was a little disappointed with the ambiance and the overall feel of the restaurant. I made an open table reservation 30 minutes before we arrived because I assumed it would be a busy night but when we arrived our table was not ready for 10 minutes, not because they were so busy but because they just hadn't bussed the table and I knew that because the hostess was the one to clean it. When we were seated, we watched a waiter talk at a table for about 10 minutes (thank goodness he wasn't our waiter) but we didn't see our waiter for 15 minutes. I will stop here and just say I think we should have just come here for drinks and dessert rather than go on and on. It was also not worth the price.

Went with another couple who used to go with us to the Fondue Room in Mt. Clemens before it closed. We had reservations, but it took about an hour to be seated, which is the only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars. (That, and the smell of oil permeating through the car on our ride home, but we expected as much, it being a fondue restaurant). My first piece of advice is to make reservations and be patient, because this place is always busy. For our first course, we had the Fiesta Cheese Fondue and the Wisconsin Cheese Fondue. Being a fan of Mexican food, I preferred the Fiesta, with it's spicy kick, but Wisconsin wasn't bad either. My salad choice was a standard Caesar salad, which tasted just fine, but which I neglected for the most part because I anticipated stuffing myself during the rest of the dinner and didn't want to waste room with lettuce. For our entrees, we shared the Land & Sea, which consisted of filet, chicken breast and shrimp. I believe the chicken breast was marinated in terriyaki. Either way, everything was fresh and delicious. The best thing, though, was the side of veggies you get with your meal. I can't begin to tell you how delicious the giant mushrooms stuffed with what they call Goddess filling (I think) were. I was thankful that the other three weren't especially keen on mushrooms because I ate more than my fair share. By now, I really should step back from the table. But I don't. Because now is the time for the Chocolate Fondue. Is there really anything better than melted chocolate? Why, yes there is! Cheesecake and pound cake dipped in melted chocolate! And Rice Krispie Treats! And fruit! If you don't have 2-3 hours on your hands, stop here just for chocolate fondue with your sweetie and you will be happy you did! We had the original as well as a peanut butter version that I don't see on the current menu. Both were spectacular. Now that I'm done with the food, I should tell you that the drinks from the bar were well made and the service was enjoyable. Our server was EXCELLENT at telling us what was best on the menu - he even suggested using broth instead of oil, which we were used to, and he was right! And saved us a ton of calories! Delicious! Fondueing (is that a word?) isn't for everyone, but if you enjoy a long, leisurely, interactive dinner, don't mind sharing food with the others at your table, and like to eat a lot of really yummy food, don't be a snob and go here! It is fun, delicious and worth the wait!

First time MP guest. The food alone wasn't that bad but for the money we could have gone somewhere else and had something waaaayyy tastier. The desert on the other hand made up for my dinner. The chocolate and all of the other treats that came with it was beyond delicious!!! I would go back for the desert alone.

Loved it! Our waiter was completely charming and accommodating. The food was delicious. I don't understand the people who complain about having to cook your own food. That's the fun part! Why would you even go if you didn't want to do that?! We also had a Groupon and as someone else mentioned before our waiter let us get whatever drink we wanted (up to $15) in place of the 2 glasses of house wine as well. We actually ended up getting a wine flight and only paid the one dollar difference (a flight was $16). A completely lovely and enjoyable experience all around. Will definitely be back :)

I'm giving the melting pot only 2 stars on the account of there prices and atmosphere. Our group was large 6 couples in total, we only had to wait about 15 minutes for our table to be setup. Once seated our waiter came promptly and began taking our drink orders. Our drinks came but our waiter couldn't remember who ordered what! (a little annoying). My fiancée both ordered ice tea's, they came with more ice than beverage but they were free refills, so o.k. Our meal courses came promptly and deliciously. At this point I was becoming a fan until our alternate drink order was completely ignored (a beer & glass of wine). After our meals was what we where told was the main event: 3 different chocolate fondues, being a chocoholic I was ready. All of the dipping items were fresh and tasty, all of the chocolates were creamy and flavorful. Here is my drawback: the patrons around us where loud to the point where you could not hold an audible conversation or hear each other without yelling over the noise. Date night at this place? No thank you. Now comes the bill, for what little we ordered because it was our first time our bill bill came to $365.00 not including tip which was another $50.00. If we had not ordered the desert we would have gone home hungry. We will not be returning.

I had been here a few years ago but wasn't a Yelper then, so when I went back last week, I decided to yelp about my experience. We had a triple date night, and two couples had coupons which we initially thought we could not use together. However, there were no problems with the bill and both coupons were used. We were seated fairly quickly and met our server. Initially he was a little standoffish, and seemed to not be interested in waiting tables. Which is odd, because he had to prepare a lot of the food at table side, which requires even more interaction! He explained that it would be difficult if each couple wanted different cheese fondue, so we only ordered two, and hoped we would get a double of one order. The cheese fondue was good but tasted heavily of the wine it is cooked with. We liked the many options of things to dip into the cheese fondue (apples? wow, amazing!) and devoured this selection. For main course we again chose just 2 cooking methods, the Coq au vin was my preferred flavor. We ordered the "Big Night Out" Feast with the lobster tail. Everything was explained to us (several times) and the cooking times were reiterated as needed by our waiter (who was finally warming up to us or his job) Finally, for dessert, we had to go with 3 different fondues. The signature (chocolate & crunchy peanut butter), bananas foster (white chocolate with banana pieces... delish) and flaming turtle (flambeed chocolate with caramel & nut pieces). I think we scraped the bowl clean on the signature dish, but the bananas foster fondue was very sweet and I could not finish it. Our bill came and with our 2 coupons applied and the men having drank 2 beers apiece, it was about $110 per couple. We expected to pay decent money and to spend a good bit of time there and we were very happy with our night!

I'm pretty sure our waiter was high along with some of the other people that came to our table. Would only go back for dessert

Seemed alittle over priced for what you got to eat. The atomosphere was very nice for a night out and you could make an evening of it. Would recommend going at least once but not all the time

Tasty fondue and great atmosphere! The Melting Pot is a fondue joint, plain and simple. All tables feature a heating element that keeps your fondue pots hot and ready to cook whatever you dip into them. I had a four-course meal type deal: cheese fondue appetizer, wedge salad, meat fondue main course, and--of course--chocolate fondue for dessert. All of the food was fresh and tasty. Ambience is intimate in the two-seater tables, but this place can accommodate larger groups as well. Had amazing service from a fella named Ryan. And the manager on duty made a few stops by our table just to check in. Beware, this place is somewhat pricey. Our bill for the four-course deal that included four 6-oz beers (paired specially with each course) topped $110 for two people. We did leave quite full, though. I wouldn't hit this place up on a regular basis, but it does quite well if you're looking to splurge for a special occasion. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because our little two-top table seemed too small to eat from given that most of the table space was occupied by the burner. There just seemed too little room around the periphery to comfortably hold all of the dishes of dipping items, sauce cups, drinking glasses, silverware and fondue forks. I would have appreciated a bit more space to spread my elbows. :) Make a reservation, find a sitter for the kids, and settle in for a fun evening of tasty fondue fun!

We went tonight for my daughters birthday. Ok, so we were there over 3 hours. I expect a long service like I stated in my earlier review but there were many times we were forgotten about and had to wait long periods of time for refills. They revamped the menu this past week so they no longer have the big night out. It is charged per person now which made the bill with tip over $300 for 6 of us. About $100 more than it used to cost for the same meal. I used to love the experience but for what we paid I won't be going here again. So disappointed as it was pricey before but now it is just crazy expensive. Oh well. So long Melting Pot. :(

We went for my birthday and they sat us right at our reservation time, the prices where a bit high but you got a lot of quality food for your money. The time for thee dinner took longer than we thought bc you had to cook your own food in the pot, but the timer on the app helped. My dress ripped and they went above and beyond to help me fix it. All and all it was a great experience and we all agreed we can't wait to go back!

Went here for a ladies night thing. Reservations were for 8pm. We didn't get seated until a little after 9pm. We were give free champagne and a cheese fondue for our wait. There was about 8 of us which made it kinda dificult when it came to ordering but the waitstaff handled it. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. Food was presented nicely and tasted great! When coming here keep in mind it will take a few hours. We probably didn't get our first course til 9:30ish and we didn't leave until 11:15pm.

Good food but was forced to spend nearly four hours here due to our table not being ready and the service being show despite us being only one of two tables in the restaurant at the end of the night. Had to stay over an hour past closing to finish our meal.

The experience here was very nice overall, but the cost is a bit of a show-stopper for me to come more often. Coming in, the restaurant has an upscale feel, including the valet parking service, which we did not use. The hostesses were nice, but a bit slow to respond to the people as we were coming in. But, we were sat fairly quickly despite being early and very few patrons in the restaurant. The upscale feel dropped a bit when were seated at our booth. The booth had a dated feel to it, but it's really hard to complain as I think the reason was just a lot of use. You see, you have a burner at your table for the fondue service and I believe it takes a real toll on the table and surroundings. Our booth was also a bit tight and the table space very limited due to the burner. When you get your food, it becomes very crowded fast. The service we had was excellent. Our waitress was fantastic, helpful and efficient. Food quality was very good. The various fondues and main options were very flavorful and we enjoyed them quite a lot. The only down-side is the cost. I don't think the value ratio is very good, but for special occasions, I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

It's more like 2.5 stars. First off, that grade is based on the price and what is expected for spending over $100 on a meal. The beer bacon cheese fondue was ok. But the low grade tortilla chips and mediocre bread were not the best dipping vessels... And the apples were just weird. The spinach mushroom salad I had was pretty decent. The warm vinaigrette was decent, but mostly tasted like steak sauce. The main course was the best. Ahi, filet, shrimp.... But the portions were next to nothing. For the 2 of us, we had 4 shrimp, 3 pieces tuna, 3 pieces filet, a Lil seasoned strip and a Lil season chicken. Flavor was spot on, but I could have easily eaten twice what I did... And for the price, they could've done a little better. Dessert is good. "Snickers" fondue with the strawberries and bananas were great. But the store bought brownie and rice crispy square bites were underwhelming. Also, the portion here is hilarious... Bigger than the main... And they offered refills on fruit. Service was ok, but sloooow. The whole meal lasted close to 3 hours. I would go back just for dessert. $16 for all that is definitely worth it, but high price small meat portions will keep me away from the entire gimicky meal.

Have only been here a few times for special occasions as it is pretty pricey but so good, be prepared to spend about 100 bucks for 2 people if you do the big night out and have drinks, also make sure you set aside enough time to eat here bc if does take close to 3 hours to get through dinner if you're ordering the big night out as you get salad, the cheese fondu corse the meat corse and then dessert. It is romantic and ideal for birthdays, anniversaries any special occasion-def not a kid friendly place you'll want to leave the kiddos at home..I love this place wish we could go more often but it is rather pricey but I think they do have happy hours with specials on the dessert fondue and drinks

The Melting Pot isn't the type of place you pop into on a whim. You will need to be dedicated to put in the time this meal will take, and have the cash that you need to drop on it but it is totally worth it. The big night out seems work best for us when we go. We have had several different cheese fondues and all of them were delicious. but really melted cheese on apple slices, bread and veggies is always going to be good. The salads have always been excellent as well. You may think salads are going to be an after thought at a fondue restaurant but they have all been amazing. The ranch and house dressing which is like a honey mustard is very good. The main course can be a little overwhelming. The plate is full of various meats and seafood. Lobster, shrimp, fillet, chicken, and pork. Of course I can't comment on how they were cooked since they come raw but they were seasoned extremely well and looked like very prime cuts. The oil cooking style allows for batter so you can deep fry which is really good on some of the things but the flavored broths are also reallygood and I may prefer those slightly. Just when you think you might burst it's time for dessert! Many different chocolate fondues to choose from and again another plate full of sweets to dip. Chocolate covered strawberries, bananas, rice crispy treats, brownies, candy covered marshmallows and even cheese cake. The service has always been good and although you cook your own food the servers do prepare the cheese and chocolate fondues at the table. You will not leave The Melting Pot hungry that is for sure. They also offer many wines, beers, and drinks so it's a good place for a romantic night or a night out with friends.

1st time diners Great meal all around. Arrived early and were welcomed to the bar area. We were promptly seated and began our dining experience. The four course meal kept food coming to our table. Enjoyed delicious food and great conversation. The only complaint was the coffee that ended our meal. Shame to skimp on that after a deliciously fun meal.

Went this past Saturday night, and had a great experience. Only reason for not giving 5 stars, is a slight hubbub on the reservation and front of the house, which left about 10-15 patrons slightly annoyed and a tense atmosphere. What could of continued on as a tense meal, was completely evaporated once our waiter, Jerry, came to the table. Seriously one of the best waiters I have had the pleasure of having. He was attentive at the right times, and instructional, and just the perfect amount of funny. We used a groupon dinner for 2, which was a phenomenal deal, and if listed again i would most def. purchase. I was with my fiance and my little sister, and both were very please. Even my fiance who usually steers away from cheese dove right into the fondue (ordered the basic cheddar and beer) LOVED it with the brown bread and apples.. Great experience, highest part of the evening was the service and the dessert (classic chocolate) which was perfect with the fresh fruit and rice krispies.

Of all the cheese I like to eat, liquid is my favorite. I have a special affinity for the Melting Pot, not because I think it is particularly spectacular in any kind of way but because I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese fondue. LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE. And it seems like every other fondue place in the area always ends up closing (RIP La Fondue & Fondue Room), therefore the Melting Pot is my go-to place when I have the hankering. So when my aunt asked me where I wanted to go to dinner for my birthday -- being the foodie about town that I am who visits multiple different restaurants in any given week and who regularly experiences the very finest in metro Detroit dining -- yep, I chose the Melting Pot. I'm sure by now most everyone here knows the basic premise: you cook your own food. There are four courses: the appetizer is the cheese fondue which is served with bread, apples and veggies. Then you have a nice salad. Then the entree, which is a variety of meats, seafood and vegetables plated raw with your choice of cooking methods (basically oil or broth). Then dessert, the chocolate fondue served with decadent delights such as cheesecake, brownies, Oreo-coated marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, Rice Krispie treats, and so forth. This course is most people's favorite, but cheese is my chocolate and it is on that I gorge. At the Melting Pot you get a variety of options for each course--there's several different kinds of cheese blends and several different kinds of meat/seafood combinations and several different kinds of "chocolate-and..." options. There are also seasonal themed packages with selections for each course not on the regular menu. The selection process can be daunting, but I'm a traditionalist: Swiss fondue, California salad, and whatever dessert my companions decide on because I've already had mine--cheese is my chocolate. "But Nicole, you didn't say what you get for the main course?!?" Right-o. Because I skip it. First of all, any trip to the Melting Pot will make you feel like a gluttonous pig and you will probably need to be rolled out of there; skipping the entree will still leave you comfortably full. Also: it ain't cheap, and I'm not into the idea of giving someone else $50 to allow me to cook my own food. If I'm going to pay that much for a steak I'll go across the street to Ruth's Chris and get a damn STEAK. There is realy nothing great or exceptional about the entree selections, and once the novelty wears thin you just end up angry your spent that kind of money and time to cook your own food. (And luckily the people I usually go with agree.) But the cheese and the chocolate, that's different. Try that at home, I dare you. (I do and it's never quite the same.) The Swiss blend is Grùyere and Emmenthaler Swiss cheeses, white wine, a touch of garlic, nutmeg, fresh lemon, and Kirschwasser. It's mild with a little bit of a tanginess and YES I CAN EAT A FULL 2-PERSON SERVING BY MYSELF AND DID WHAT'S IT TO YOU. I follow that up with the California salad: mixed baby salad greens, Roma tomatoes, walnuts, and gorgonzola cheese, topped with raspberry black walnut vinaigrette dressing. Salads are too underrated; I like this salad quite a bit and could easily make a meal out of it if it were triple the size. That's all probably due to the gorgonzola. I AM biased. For the chocolate round we went with the "original": milk chocolate with crunchy peanut butter. And while I'm not the biggest fan of sweets, I do enjoy dipping some tasty treats in liquified chocolate. The prices aren't cheap and the cheese & chocolate courses are automatically 2-person servings (at 2-person prices). The wine list is boring standard California labels and cocktails are decent but ALL of it is overpriced. Wait times can be long, service can be slow, and this is not a great place to take kids. We did get complimentary champagne for my birthday, which was nice. But the place also has a very corporate feel, which can be disappointing. I make no pretenses about the "dining" experience you'll have here, but damn I do love that cheese fondue. I'll be back there for my next birthday, no doubt.

My boyfriend and I were in need of a romantic night out, so I surprised him with the Melting Pot. I had been there years ago and really enjoyed it, but it's a place that doesn't pop up on my regular radar. This is one of those places that isn't just a restaurant, it's an event. We got the Big Night Out with was France themed. There were courses and wine, so it took a couple hours. Everything was totally delish. My suggestions are to go there with a big appetite and a fat wallet because it is a little expensive. However, if you plan ahead, go to restaurant.com and pay $10 for a $25 off coupon. The only downside is the prices and I have to admit that the atmosphere of the Troy location was a little strange. For a romantic setting, the bright lights were glaring. Also, our waiter talked like he had a bunch of marbles in his mouth. Those things aside, it's a great experience!

I came here for lunch once and I thought it was pretty meh. I came back last week for dinner and man what a difference. This place is an experience. It started off with pots of cheese and dippables. Follow this with various meats and seafood that's dippable in either deep frying oil or broth. Follow this with desserts that are dippable in chocolate. I love how they prepare the pots right in front of you. Holy cow was this good. It left you full but not that full (if that makes any sense) Some things to note: -Use your iPhone or cell phone to time how long the meat cooks in the pots. It's easy to overcook things. -Go for the Big Night Out Package. It's $40 or so for each person but it's well worth it. My big complaint about this place is that every time that door opened, it got really really cold in the restaurant. I also didn't like how they forced valet on you.

  • Deborah R.

My review has a few different things that all go into it. 1st, it was the first 'date night' me & my boyfriend had in a while so we had a 'nothing can ruin this night' attitude. There was complimentary valet, but if you use it in that small parking lot than maybe you should skip dinner and head to a gym. The food, like with any Melting Pot was delicious. I have had everything once on the menu and it is all fantastic. (Although my least favorite cheese was the one that I had this particular night and that was the artichoke spinach) I love how one choice can serve a couple to a few people, making it a reasonable choice for a night out. I had a mojito that was all sugar and without a second thought our garcon replaced it with something I would like better without charge (without me even complaining! I just asked to order another drink). The place was packed- it was Friday, but it was a typical wonderful experience at the Melting Pot. i love it, this was the first of many trips to this location. TIP: I've seen $20 for $40 worth of food at halfoffdepot.com for the novi location! If you're going to that one- look online first!

My husband and I hit up The Melting Pot on the final day of Troy Restaurant Week. I'll tell you this, it felt very decadent to have a leisurely lunch of cheese and chocolate on a Friday afternoon. It would have been even better if we could have imbibed some wine or cocktails but we both had to go back to work. The lunch deal included one cheese fondue, a salad for each of us, and a chocolate fondue. This suited me fine as I wasn't interested in the entrée choices. And after reading the other reviews it looks like I'm not missing anything. I mean, why go to a restaurant and still have to cook? (Side note: This goes for BD's Mongolian Grill too for the same reasons.) Our waiter was friendly and prompt. They make the fondue tableside so they end up spending a lot of time with you. We chatted about travelling abroad and making the seemingly impossible possible. It never felt awkward. We opted for the Swiss cheese fondue, it was our first time here and going with a classic just seemed like the right thing to do. The assortment of bread and apples went very well with the fondue but the raw broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots were not my cup of tea. Luckily, my husband gobbled them up. The trick here is to fully coat your cheese-delivering object. Our cheese-to-object ratio worked perfectly and there was but one bread cube left after all the fondue had disappeared. The fondue itself was creamy with a hint of garlic. We both choose the house salad and it was a decent salad. I don't really have anything more to say about that. And then the chocolate! We decided to go a bit rogue on the dessert course and made up a version of dark chocolate and Bailey's. This was the smartest decision we made all day! The dipping sweets included cheesecake, brownies, rice crispy treats, marshmallows, bananas, and strawberries. A short conversation during dessert: Me: Can I have the last 'naner? Him: Yes, but stay away from my mallows! The Bailey's & dark chocolate complimented each other in the most lovely of ways. We ran out of dipping sweets with tons of chocolate left. This made me sad, very sad. The only issue we had with the service was waiting for our check. When I'm ready to leave a restaurant, I want to leave!

Went to the Melting Pot with some ladies this week, and it conveniently happened to be Troy Restaurant Week so we got a sweet deal. 4 course dinner for $30! It was pretty good. I definitely preferred my first fondue experience at Geja's in Chicago. Seemed like they were trying a little too hard with the multiple flavors of fondues...just give me the standard cheese already! It was very tasty though, and the service was really outstanding here. Not sure if I'd go back for full price, though.

Love this melting pot! The .food is very good quality. Many selections for different price ranges. It is more expensive than a regular dining event, but so worth it! Expect to be there at least 1.5-2 hours. Definitely make a reservation, which you can do online with Yelp*. I can honestly say, the staff here is outstanding! They are professional, curteous, friendly. And I'm speaking of staff that were not even assigned to our table. Our waiter was awesome, explained everything, joked, was on top of the pot when it was ready to be used. He did not rush anything but didn't lag either! All in all, a great experience! This is our second time there and I have been pleased both times!

I've been to many a melting pot before (Novi, Las Vegas) and enjoyed the food and experience, so this Troy Melting Pot trip was extremely disappointing, but only turned me off from this location, not others. The Troy Melting Pot was our last stop on our Troy Restaurant Week tour. I went with my sister and boyfriend for lunch on Friday, and our waiter let us know that he hadn't been excited about restaurant week. Maybe people weren't tipping well with the fixed prices, but that was how our lunch started off. He ended up upselling us the dinner special ($30/person for salad, cheese, meat, and dessert course). The waiter asked us what type of salad we wanted, then 15 minutes later came back and said he had forgot what we ordered. My sister and I ordered a mushroom salad and my boyfriend a house salad. 30 minutes later he came back and asked us what we wanted to drink, then came back with my boyfriend's bud light and asked my sister and I what we wanted (even though we had already told him). About 45 minutes into our *lunch* -- we had got there at 1:30 -- our salads came out: they were all california salads. We kind of laughed about it and figured we'd just eat them since it was already 45 minutes into the meal and we didn't want to wait another hour just for salads. We joked that our waiter was on drugs, but he really may have been. A little bit after we got our salad, the cheese course came out. At that point, we were one of the only tables in the restaurant. We ate and finished the cheese without our waiter coming back to table once. Finally, the cheese pot started smoking and burning, and we removed it from the burner. Our waiter came by around 3 pm and joked that we were burning the place down -- the water had disappeared from the pot. That was a bit annoying since he had just left us there. Meal came out and we ate that quick since we had now been there for an hour and a half -- we weren't expecting to be there longer than that. We finished and waited again. The waiter took our dessert order and was gone for 30 minutes. We made bets about when he would actually come back and even considered calling the restaurant from our cell phones to ask how long lunch was supposed to last. We finally got dessert at 4:30 and left by 5:15. It was odd to see the Valet services blocking our cars in and the dinner crowd starting to come in. One of the best parts of the meal, in the beginning when we ordered our cocktails, was that my sister ordered a Strawberry Basil cocktail (vodka and strawberry). Our waiter came back, put the drink in front of my sister, and told her that they had run out of basil. Then he stepped back, laughed, and told us that he didn't want to tell us what he had put in it. My sister got paranoid and asked him what it was, to which he explained it was oregano -- odd. Why not just come back and say "hey, we're out of the main ingredient for this cocktail, can I suggest another?" The experience was funny at first, but after nearly 4 hours in a restaurant where your waiter is in lala land, we were all annoyed. The food was great, so that's why I gave it two stars. Our waiter was the one that made it a horrible experience. From visiting past Melting Pots and having dinner there, I know that you can be out in under two hours. If you're paying that much to cook your own food, you at least want to feel like the waiter cares a bit -- Melting Pot fail.

Joe T. pretty much nailed it... Excellent chocolate fondue but I didn't feel cooking your own meats was worth it at all (was tasty, though not tasty enough to warrant the cost). To expand just a little, we visited because it was Restaurant Week, which basically means you get $15 off the normal price of a meal (instead of $75/couple, it's $60). We started with a cheddar fondue, which they prepped tableside. It was really good, but the amount of dippers was a little much for the amount of cheese (we had bread pieces left over)--but then, we love cheese so really coated the bread/apple/veggies/potatoes. If we were more stingy with the cheese, it would have been good. But who wants to be stingy with cheese? I mean, be sensible people. Unfortunately, the broccoli and potatoes were a complete miss. The waitress gave us approximate cooking times: (IIRC) 2-3 minutes for the broccoli and 8-12 minutes for the small redskin potato pieces (and that we had to poke holes in them). The HUGE broccoli pieces were kinda maybe ready at 10 minutes (so we ate them crunchy) and the potatoes, at 12 minutes, were still practically raw, so we just let them sit. Fast forward a moment to THE END OF OUR ENTREE COURSE (30 minutes later, we timed it) and they still really weren't done. Not a big deal, but if I ever did it in the future, I'd forgo poking holes and just cut the potatoes in MUCH smaller chunks. The salads were good (Caesar and House) and were timed appropriately for when we finished the cheese. The meat tray looked appetizing--shrimp, teriyaki beef, dumplings, ahi tuna, pork, and another beef (all seasoned nicely). Before you can eat, they have to explain the six sauces and how not to make yourself sick by cross-contaminating your plate or utensils with raw meat. I understand why they have to do this, but it's just not appetizing to think about. Then, of course, when you cook them, they do get an unappealing grey color. The taste was good (especially with the sauces) but I really didn't enjoy the cooking process--too much stress as to whether I was going to under/over cook something. Which I did--I had to put pieces of chicken back a few times because it was still pink. And sure, they give you times on each item, but you're eating and visiting and wait, how long has that 1-2 minute shrimp been in? Wait, how long has that 30 second ahi tuna been in? Wait, this chicken is pink. GAH!!!!! We even geeked it out and had our iPhone stopwatch running and still couldn't keep track. So it's really a crapshoot as to how everything gets cooked. I don't like that aspect. But then, the chocolate. Ohhhh, the chocolate. Soooo many options and soooo many I wanted to try. We settled on the Turtle (though I really wanted to try the S'mores or the Original, but hubby vetoed those). Every item was delish and I could have just eaten the chocolate with a spoon. I definitely want more of that. The service was pretty good, although the waters could have been filled a little quicker. The waitress did say there were surprisingly busy (that they usually didn't get this busy during Restaurant Week until at least Wednesday)...so maybe she was implying they were understaffed (though she never said that). But our courses were timed efficiently and we never felt like anything was rushed. A manager also stopped by to make sure everything was okay. So overall, I'd really highly recommend the cheese and chocolate courses, and I'd avoid the actual entree courses. Even with the discount we had, it was still too expensive for what it was, but I'd definitely be willing to shell out some cash for the starter and ending courses. As a sidenote, the waitress said during their happy hours at the bar, you can get half price cheese or chocolate. Bring on the babysitter!!

I've been to the Melting Pot more times than I'd like to admit, and I've had a wonderful experience each and every time. The atmosphere is classy yet relaxed, and the service is always fantastic. I've enjoyed to Big Night Out a few times, but usually go to the Melting Pot for Ladies Nights, which include drink specials, a salad, and chocolate and cheese fondue. If you're looking for a fun night out without spending an arm and a leg, I highly recommend skipping the entrees and sticking with those three simple courses. It's a great way to get the fondue experience without having to hand over your entire paycheck. No matter what the occasion or what I've ordered, the staff has always gone above and beyond to guarantee a good time was had by one and all.

As good as fondue gets:) Our service was excellent. The only thing preventing me from giving them 5 stars is that I had reserved a curtain booth to celebrate and they had given it away when we got there!

i have only eaten here once and it's only because our favorite 'date' restaurant 'La Fondue' in royal oak closed down :( we came for our first anniversary and my husband surprised me by getting an anniversary package. i got roses in a vase and a the waiter took our picture and put it in a frame to take home, it was really cute. we started out at the bar and had some martini's. the bartender was really cool, he suggested martini's for us and he was spot on, we really liked them. he also gave us some free drinks and pellegrino water. the tini's were expensive at about $10 each but they were good and strong. we were there for hours and had so many courses. everything was really good and i think it's fun to cook your own dinner. my absolute favorite part was the dessert. the milk chocolate fondue all the dessert items you get to dip in it is so good. we asked our waiter what was the best chianti on the menu and he picked out a 2005 Chianti Ruffino, "Ducale Gold Label". so we ordered it and it is now our favorite wine. it's amazing! expensive, but amazing. this isn't really somewhere i would eat at too often due to the cost but i agree with another reviewer that said maybe eat somewhere else and come here for dessert.

I went here about a month ago with 5 other girls for the Thursday "ladies night." $5 martinis, 2 cheese dips, 2 chocolate dips and a salad for each girl, for around $20 each. It was the first time here for most of us, and we couldn't stop describing it as the "best night ever" because it literally was. Our waiter (who is sadly gone now and moved to Costa Rica) was HILARIOUS, fun and loved us. He accidentally brought us one of the wrong types of cheese, and when he realized it actually made us a 3rd pot for free. FREE CHEESE! We all had a different martini and they were all delicious. I had the caramel apple, which is my favorite if I'm going to have a girly drink (normally I stick to a gin and tonic or beer) and it was perfect. Came with an apple slice and caramel drizzled around the inside of the glass. No stomachache, which is what sweet alcohol typically does to me. The cheeses were warm and savory and there was plenty of bread, apples and veggies going around to dip in them. The chocolate fondues were just as incredible. We got 2 huge plates filled with cake and brownie bites, strawberries and rice krispie treats. We scraped each pot down to the bottom. Maybe we got special treatment because $5 martini's make us SUPER fun, but the staff kept coming over to make sure we were satisfied (everyone was super nice) and once they found out we were celebrating a friends birthday, they brought out a complimentary glass of champagne for all of us. Our waiter actually had a bus boy come out with his shirt off to present it to us. At this point I think we all had tears in our eyes from laughing so hard. We are all busy girls and try to get together once a month to gossip and catch up, and this was the most fun we've ever had together. It is perfect for a girls night out, I mean, who doesn't love martini's, chocolate and cheese? NOBODY! We also made reservations (which I'd recommend if you're coming in a group of 6 or more like we were) and we were put in a room with only a few tables separated from the rest of the restaurant. The staff didn't neglect us a bit and everyone was going out of their way to make sure we had an excellent time. And we did. We'll definitely be coming back.

I enjoyed the atmosphere even though the tables are a little cramped. As for the food, the appetizer fondue rocked. They had some Parmesan encrusted pine nuts in salad which were really good. Wasn't thrilled with entree, boiled meat with no flavor. Dessert frickin kicked ass, would go back just for that! Had a couple drinks each, very expensive.

I have been waiting to try The Melting Pot for months. When the holidays rolled around I noticed that they were doing a special where you buy $100 in Gift Cards and received 4 $25 coupons to be used throughout 2010. Since I felt like their prices were a bit high, I jumped on this and felt I could justify my visit. My boyfriend and I went here on a Saturday night around 7. Unfortunately it was slightly last minute so we didn't have reservations. They said they were booked solid until 9, but if we could find a seat at the bar we could eat there because it was first come first serve. Now I understand that it takes a while to eat a meal here (took us about 2 and a half hours) the table behind where we ended up sitting at the bar was empty until our last course. I know that it means the people with the reservations would have had to wait on us to be able to sit, but there were many empty tables around us for most of the time we were there. The $25 coupon required us to get the 4 course meal, which is what we wanted to try anyway. Cheese, Salad, Meat and Dessert. First off I had a Love Martini - which was so yummy :) Whenever I went to take a sip it was insanely peachy smelling. MMmmm... It had Malibu Rum , Peach Schnapps and Cranberry Juice. Even my boy thought it was tasty and he's not a big drinker. He had a Blackberry and Sage Lemonade which was also awesome. Something about the sage just added a great twist to the blackberry lemonade. You could definitely taste it and it added so much to the drink. First course was our Cheese Fondue. We went for the Fiesta Cheese Fondue, which had Cheddar Cheese, Herbs, Spices, Salsa and Jalapenos. They made it right at our burner. Started with the beer base, added the cheese, herbs and spices. We got to choose how much jalapenos to put in it based on how spicy we wanted it. I totally went for Mild. To dip in it we had 2 types of bread, granny smith apples, tortilla chips, carrots, celery and cauliflower. We ate most of the course, but not the whole thing we were worried about being full and not making it to dessert. Second course was salad. We each got to pick our own. I went with the regular house salad (with egg) and their peppercorn Ranch dressing. Now we all know ranch makes or breaks a salad and this ranch was fantastic. I ate the whole salad and it was phenomenal. The boyfriend had the specialty that they were running for the time being, the Alpine Ridge Salad. I took a bite and it was tasty, but you can't have salad without ranch! Then came the meat. We paid the extra money to have a Lobster tail included with our meats. We had them cooked in the Mojo Style bouillon, which was Caribbean seasoned with garlic and citrus flavors. Our meats included: Lobster Tail, Filet Mignon, Pork, Bratwurst, Shrimp, Chicken and Tomato Ravioli. They also dumped in HUGE mushrooms, Red Skin Potatoes (which were SOOO good) and broccoli stalks. We had to cook each piece of meat for about 2 minutes. I must admit of this course the Red Skin Potato was my favorite it had really good flavor, but I also enjoyed the Filet as well. Dessert - oh dessert. I was most excited about this and I was not disappointed. I choose the S'more Fondue. It came out with melted milk chocolate and a big plop of marshmallow fluff in the middle. Our waiter dumped the graham cracker crumbs into it and then took a little container of Bacardi 151 and lit it on fire. He poured it on our fondue and it was flaming blue. He said that this helped give the marshmallow the toasted marshmallow taste. For this we dipped strawberries, bananas, cheesecake, pound cake, brownies, rice krispie treats and 2 different types of Marshmallows. Oh my goodness it was to die for. Overall I thought the experience was fantastic. I was a bit worried initially about not having enough room for dessert, but looking back I think this is something I needn't have worried so much about. We finished every course but the cheese course and left full but not stuffed. I guess for the money, you don't get that much food and what you do get is somewhat average (minus the more extravagant meats) I'd go and pay again because it was a fantastic experience and gave us lots of time to talk and laugh while we learned how to eat fondue.

I'm on the fence with this one. When I'm eating the food, I think it's yummy. When I look back on previous experiences there, I always remember them fondly. But then I think about the bill and I feel like I've been had. There are a few things to discuss here. I like the warm, glossy woods and the soft glow of the lights. I enjoy the cheese and chocolate fondue. There is a decent selection of dippers to go along with them. I have always had great, friendly service, even on very busy nights. Moral of the story: All is well, but I don't think it's worth the money.

Quite a disappointing experience, after being seated at a strange booth with only 3 settings (the wall protruded out where the 4th seat should have been) we were introduced to Jeremy, our server who had the personality of a dishrag. Though the food was good, since all we had was dessert it was really just a bowl of chocolate and a plate of generic fruit and sweets, something a toddler could have put together... What we were excited about was the experience, the service, and WOW were we disappointed. Jeremy never inquired if it was our first visit, and blandly took our order with no direction at all. Though my wife had been once before (and had a wonderful server) it was my first time, and the concept was unusual. We were never checked on regarding taste or enjoyment, and our beverages remained empty for most of the meal. Other than the lackluster server and awkward booth, the room was freezing (the table next to us actually asked to move because they were cold). Oh and let's not forget the shrewd host staff, although their personalities were cheerful when compared to our server. In the end it was just was icing on the cake... All in all, the food was good, and we will likely try it again, although we will refuse to have Jeremy as a server. We assume that because we were only there for dessert (meaning a lower total bill), we were disregarded in favor of other tables. It didn't go unnoticed, and we expected much more from an establishment such as this one.

Really? Now, I will admit that I've only been once, and it was around the time they first opened, but that being said... Why is everyone so in love with this place? As far as I could tell, it was just an overpriced chain-restaurant experience. It was nice to do once, but there's no real need to go back.

Absolutely LOVE the Melting Pot! My wife and I have been to the Melting Pot in Troy ever since they opened and have never been disappointed. Just this past weekend I called the Manager Mike to help me plan a surprise party for my wife's birthday and he did a stellar job! They really went out of their way to make the party special, had balloons blown up, reserved a nice large room and even had numerous staff setup to cook the food in a really cool "buffet" style for all my guests. It truly was top notch! The waitstaff is incredible, not only super knowledgeable about fondue, but really unbelievable with their huge wine selection! I highly recommend the Melting Pot in Troy for parties OR for a quiet romantic date with your significant other!

I'll be honest - the chocolate fondues with dipping items are decadent here. Really hits the spot. Got me in the mood. Got me horny. Got me hot & bothered, etc. I would love to do some fondue here after having dinner nearby. The melting chocolate with complementary dipping items is really on POINT. Also, the interior is very uppity classy in a contemporary style, and the wait staff is very entertaining and kind - making it a good place for a date. However - let me get to the dinner. You order these "dinners for 2" and all you get is marinated meats and a "cooking style" brew in the pot. You just dip the meats for x number of minutes and eat them. Kind of tastes like you just boiled it - well essentially that is what you're doing. Yeah the meats are good, top notch but if you stop and think what you're doing - you're just boiling seasoned meats in a flavorful broth and thus paying them a premium price tag to boil-cook your own food. Umm - I could go down to Larco's Chophouse or Maggiano's Little Italy and spend either less or the same amount for a premium entree cooked properly (grilled, broiled, fried, baked, WHATEVER), and with sidedishes/proper appetizers, soups, etc.. But here? You end up just kind of boiling you're own meats. What do you get when you boil a red piece of seasoned beef? It's as you expect - you get a gray kind of ugly piece of beef that tastes moderately good. Anyhow, long story short - the chocolate fondue is a winner here. However the "dinners" where you boil your own meats is a little odd. It's genius on their part really. They can give you a $100 bill after dinner for a meal that you basically cooked. God bless their chefs (if they have any). Maybe Im being a bit harsh - the meats/shrimps were good but I must say that dinner was a one-time experience for me. You are paying for the experience - not the food. From now on, I will only go there to enjoy the fondue and some wine with a date for dessert, perhaps after eating dinner elsewhere - and keep my bill well below $30 while doing so. Thank you! :-)

I bought a Groupon for a four course meal for 2. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised at the great service we received. There certainly was a lot of food to eat and each course was very good, i.e., salad, cheese fondue/bread, main course (meats/fish and vegetables), and dessert. I was very full by the time I left. The people were so nice and energetic in wanting to make sure we were satisfied. This turned out to be a great dining experience.

I've been to this melting pot twice. Once was for dessert one weekend night with 5 other friends, our waiter was very comical and entertaining, he kept us laughing all night, made some really good recommendations and gave us some dipping items complimentary! The second time was for lunch, me and 3 of my friends did 2 of the entree's for 2 (around $50 for one entree for 2), which come with a cheese fondue, salad for each, and broth. (All four of us had to agree on the type of fondue we wanted for cheese, and broth since we would all be sharing). I really enjoyed the cheese and dessert fondue (we ordered later), however I didnt' really care for the broth... and I wasn't prepared to cook my own food. They bring out your raw meat selections on a plate, and you have to cook it yourself! they tell you how long you have to cook each time for, but it can get really confusing when you're putting in a lot of things at different times... after a while i started overcooking everything b/c i was paranoid about it undercooked. Also, all the meat ended up tasting the same because it is all cooked in the same broth. Oh and if you're allergic to shellfish like I am... it was not a pleasant surprise when i found out i had to cook my chicken in the same broth as shrimp.... BUT i guess it's an experience, and our waitress was really friendly and helpful and we all had a good time. One token of advice: If you're planning on ordering a combo like mine, remember that melting pot is a very time consuming experience.... we were there for over 2 hours!

I have only eaten here once, but it was a fun night. Around fifteen friends and I went before a formal out our school. We thought it would be cute to have a dinner-date with fondue. There was free valet that night so who's complaining? It was enjoyable. Think fifteen teenagers with chocolate and cheese. We were split into two booths in a cramped room. Seating was tight but we honestly didn't mind. It was pretty damn dark which made it hard to see the people in the other booth so we felt separated. We did have a reservation so I wonder why they didn't expect us. It felt as if they did not. Onto the food! My table opted not to order an entree so we went with two cheese fondues and two chocolate fondues. If I remember correctly we went with the Chocolate amaretto, the chocolate snickers, the regular cheddar and a mexican-salsa cheddar fondue as well. The amaretto was almost addicting especially after it was flambed. It was smooth and velvety and nice. The snickers chocolate fondue was cute and had a nice crunch to it. The cheddar fondue was like any other cheddar fondue but the mexican one was spicy and had a nice kick to it. The sides were small and went fast with seven hungry kids but we seemed to be ok. For seven people and four fondues we paid around $12 each so it was relatively expensive for us. I thought we could have used more food though. Final Verdict: Cute, fun but could NOT eat there often. Good for date night!

When it comes to fondues, you gotta try the Melting Pot once in your lifetime. I've been there couple time, and I have a blast each time! The price is very high for two person but the experience is just amazing. It usually takes about two hours for a full dining experience. This place is great for Date, Birthday, anniversary and family gathering. Not also you can cook the entree yourself and even dip your favorite choice of dessert in the chocolate fondue. It is great experience. The atmosphere is very elegant with dark lounge booth setting. On the other side, there is a Full bar with Wine storage in between the Bar and the Dinning area. The staffs are very friendly and if it is your first time there, they will explain to you how to enjoy the fondue and what entree fondue soup ingredients to choose from for your liking.

  • If you like fondue.this is the ultimate restaurant for you - EVERYTHING on the menu is fondue! You start with cheese - and your waiter will cook it for you at the table on a hot plate sunk into the middle of the table. And with cheese, they do a phenomenal range of different types from traditional swiss to spinach artichoke. You get fresh bread, veggies and apples to dip. That's just the starter! Your entree is broth fondue - you get a plate of anything from raw steak strips, chicken breast, prawns, potstickers - and a rich broth to cook them in. Again, your waiter is your guide as to correct cooking times and methods And then dessert..save room for chocolate fondue! And again, many different varieties from pure milk, dark or white to combinations such as Smores with marshmallow cream. You have a plate full of strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, chunks of cake, and brownies to dip. The cocktails are also to die for - I recommend a Blackberry Margarita. In all - a feast for the eyes, the palate and a hell of a lot of fun. A totally unique dining experience - open one in London PLEASE!!!

Hmm. Like Amya I, I'm kind of torn on this. On one hand, I had a really nice experience here. On the other hand, some food was great, but many, many details left much to be desired. I read the Yelp reviews prior to selecting the Melting Pot over an old favorite, La Dolce Vita, for a romantic dinner. I like the idea of a three-hour dinner and trying something different, and the food sounded unique and interesting. ATMOSPHERE The atmosphere was nice. The booths are romantic and allow for you to sit together without looking like "that couple" that sits on the same side of the table. The warming plate on the table was creative, and the materials used in the construction of the table/booth were obviously high-quality. The lighting is nice, but the music is SO WEIRD! Think 94.7, adult contemporary with some weird light rock thrown in. They played a lot of the Beatles and Cat Stevens, which is fine, but didn't really go with the romantic atmosphere that they pitch all over their website. SERVICE Excellent service, from start to finish. Everyone was pleasant when I called to make a reservation, though they didn't answer the phone until a few hours after they opened. They provide free valet, which is wonderful during a bitter Michigan winter night. The hostess was pleasant, and our waiter really went above-and-beyond. Part of this, I'm sure, is to be expected: you interact with the service personnel for three hours and pay them a pretty penny, so they really have to make an impression. Our server did just that, making appropriate suggestions, working to make everything a nice presentation, checking in with us an appropriate number of times, and offering us free champagne to toast our anniversary. At the conclusion of our meal, he had the valet warm up our car for us so that it would be waiting when we left the restaurant. A++. THE DRINKS If anything, come here for the drinks! They're expensive (on average, $9), but they are very, very good. There is an extensive cocktail menu, and it's worth trying something different. My date loved his unique elderberry citrus spritzer, but did complain that the second wasn't mixed as well as the first. Our server did offer to replace any drink we didn't like prior to ordering, but we decided not to take him up on that offer. My two drinks were superb. The beer menu is ok, but I'd skip it and head for the liquor at this place. THE FOOD Here's the part where my review falls from 5 stars to 3. I fully understand what I am getting when I choose fondue: you cook your own food, et cetera. Perhaps this was not the best choice for a germaphobe with a history in food service. I'll start from the beginning. The cheese fondue appetizer was absolutely delicious. However, the dippings left much to be desired. Though the bread wasn't wonderbread, it wasn't far above it. Think stale artisan bread with zero flavor. The other choices were vegetables, apples, and chips. The dippers were decent, but seriously, at the prices we're paying it's not that hard to get nicer things to dip in the cheese. The main entree is the weird thing. We went all out and had a full spread of everything. Our server offered us great tips, and instructed us to cook chicken and beef for two minutes and everything else for a minute and a half. I was certain before going that something would be provided to assist with this timing, especially given FDA requirements and potential lawsuits, but I was mistaken. Again, I'm a total germaphobe, so I attempted to cook the chicken for two minutes using my phone's timer. It was still pink in the inside. You're only given two skewers each, so you end up cooking two bites at a time, and I cooked each for just under the duration of a song to be sure that it was cooked. This dragged our meal out beyond what was a relaxing pace, though I did enjoy having time to sip my cocktail and spend time with my date. The food itself was decent, but it wasn't the most amazing flavor I've experienced. The butter dip for seafood had mustard in it (which I found odd), so I stayed away from that. It was an interesting experience, but not the most delicious meal I've had. The dessert, however, was phenomenal! Chocolate fondue is amazing, and the dippers provided here were fantastic. This is the only course that didn't have a problem with it, and boy was it delicious! CONCLUSION This was a good experience, but if I went back, I'd go for either cheese (and just use the chips) or chocolate, and I'd do it during happy hour because it's just too expensive otherwise. I mean, I get it - you dominate a table for three hours, you have to pay for the time and energy that it requires to keep you happy. However, for the amount you are paying, it stands to reason that they could provide more high-quality ingredients. Again, on the fence. I liked it, but I would probably go somewhere else where spending $150 means having a real blowout!

This is one of my favorite restaurants! This is the first one I've been to. We didn't have reservations or fancy clothes. We pretty much just walked in and got seated. It was a fun experience and the food was tasty. I love cheese so it was right up my ally. :P The only thing is it can get a bit pricey.

Dinner at the Melting Pot is more than just a good meal... it's a fun and interactive dining experience. Two things to remember: 1) this place is not cheap, and 2) this will not be a fast meal. Also, make sure you come hungry. Let's say you go with the Big Night Out special (which costs approx $40/person but gives you a little bit of everything). You start out with a cheese fondue. This special always has it's own unique flavor theme, with its own special cheese blend, but you can substitute it out for one of the regulars if you so choose. With the cheese pot you get, breads, vegetables, and apples. Just remember, you still have two courses left, so don't fill up. You get a salad, too. On to your entree... The proteins you get are determined by what you order. Usually it's some sort of combo of red meat, poultry, and seafood with the special. On the standard menu, there are similar combos, plus smaller, more specific ones. There is also a vegetarian entree. You choose your cooking base, yes COOKING base. The food will come to you raw. You cook it yourself. Now some people cannot believe how much you pay to cook your own dinner, but it tastes so good and the whole activity is fun fun fun. Remember not to put raw meats on your plate (don't want to be getting sick). Also, the dipping sauces they give consist of a wide variety of flavors, but the green goddess is always a great choice. Chances are, before you finish this course, you will be full. Make sure to remember, the dessert (which may be the best) is still to come. Again, the dessert is fondue, pretty much always some sort of chocolate fondue. As with the cheese fondue, the Big Night Out special has its own specially created dessert fondue, but you can substitute it out for one of the regulars (I'm a BIG fan of the cookies and cream one with dark chocolate and oreos). To dip in the fondue, you get a plate full of bite sized pieces cakes, brownies, fruit, rice crispie treats, marshmallows, etc. It is SO good. The worst part about dessert is that you are probably too full to entirely appreciate how good it is. If you don't like chocolate, you can always eat the tasty treats without dipping them into the fondue. If indulging yourself for dinner isn't your idea of good meal, you can always go to the Melting Pot and do your own thing. Skip the cheese fondue, just get the cheese fondue, go for dessert and drinks only. However you do it, you should go and enjoy the Melting Pot experience.

There are restaurants you visit because you want something fast, There are restaurants you visit because you like the style of food perhaps, There are restaurants you visit because there simply isn't anything else around that you like, And then there is that rare restaurant that turns going out for a meal into an interactive, devilishly delicious, fun experience! One of those restaurants has to be "The Melting Pot" There are not enough great things I can say about The Melting Pot! This has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Metro-Detroit area. It is considered an upscale fondue restaurant and the prices definitely are upscale. You can expect to pay around $100.00 for a typical couple to eat dinner, and that is before you start adding mixed drinks, wine or beer. I am a true believer in "you get what you pay for" and in this case, you are getting some great food, great atmosphere, great drinks...all wrapped in an appealing package. The waitstaff are usually very friendly and they are very helpful to newbies, explaining how fondue-style eating works and what to expect. I love the chicken and beef combinations, as well as the delicious cheese appetizers. If you are a guy and you want to wine and dine your girl, this is a great place to go. Expect to spend at least 2 hours there for dinner (more like 3 sometimes), because of the style of dining, but it is never boring. I recommend "The Big Night Out" if there are just two of you...it has EVERYTHING you need and finishes off with the best part of the whole dining experience...DESSERT!!! The milk chocolate dessert is amazing. They give you a nice mix of fruits, chocolates and goodies to dip and if you are a chocolate lover (like me) then you will not want to stop! On top of the great food, their bar is fully stocked and is a decent place to just chill during the evening. You will most likely see one or two local celebrities there on most nights (TV, sports, radio, etc.), which can be interesting. NOTE: If you love fondue-style food, but can't stomach The Melting Pot's prices, you may want to try The Fondue Room in downtown Mount Clemens. Almost as great at half the price!

This was by far THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I have ever had. Like, in my entire life. I arrived on a Monday night around 7 pm with my parents to celebrate a trip I was taking the next day. We dig fondue, and having experienced a mediocre dinner with friends there once before we decided to give it another shot. The hostess coldly asked us if we had reservations (it was a Monday night, they were not busy, and we could see 5 different tables that were set up from where we were standing). She told us it would be a while without looking at us, I asked exactly how long a while was and she barked that it was at least 5-10 minutes. We should have ended our evening there. We were seated at a table in our sights all along that needed no alterations since we entered the restaurant. Which makes one wonder why the wait... Our waitress was very friendly, but didn't bring our drinks until after we had been with our cheese fondue for about 20 minutes. Our broth for the main course came at this time along with salads that were very disappointing variations on iceberg mix. Our waitress told us she would be back before the broth was boiling. We were near the end of our drinks at this time. Drinks were finished, salads were given up on, broth was boiling, and our waitress was no where to be found. 10 minutes passed and we flagged down another server tending to the only other table in our section. He asked what we needed, we asked that he please send our waitress to us, he asked what we needed and we said that we needed to see her, he asked if he could do anything in the meantime and we said drink refills and our entree would be great. There is something about missing waitstaff that really raises my blood pressure, but it's more because I want to think of a good excuse for them than some Scrooge McDuck reasoning. Maybe she had a busy section somewhere hidden that we didn't know about (later, when doing a once around the restaurant in our search, we learned there was no busy section). Maybe the kitchen is backed up (oh wait, it is fondue, they just need to worry about prep). Maybe her dog died? You would be surprised how many excuses you can think up when you have not seen your waitress in 40 minutes. Our lifeline never did come with the drinks, and we didn't see our waitress again until we were speaking with her manager, who we had to search the place out for. I believe there are restaurants in Detroit that are doing some exciting and delicious things that fall in the same price range. I believe in quality and value with price. I believe that I will never pretend that "upscale" chain restaurants hold a candle to local places. If at all possible the hostess was even colder to us on our way out.

I went out for dinner with my wife and two sons, taking advantage of Troy's restaurant week (TRW). We were also celebrating our birthdays, as they are all this month. Walking in to The melting Pot we were a bit skeptical as the reviews are not exceptional. We made reservations as had been suggested on-line in the TRW website. After being seated, a brief episode of confusion took place with respect to the advertised TRW menu. We finally sorted everything out, and our waiter, Tom proceeded to exquisitely describe the meal to come. We love fondue and are not amateurs, so no instruction was necessary, but the different salads, marinades, and dessert were explained in detail and in a very appealing way, instantly activating our salivary glands. After browsing the wine menu, we decided to go with Tom's initial recommendation, a good value Pinot noir which would pair nicely with the variety of meats served. Our fabulous waiter prepared the starter Swiss cheese fondue beautifully, adding the right amount of ingredients, and culminating in a marvelous cheesy delight. Next the main course, a plate with several small mounds of cubed raw meats in different marinades including fillet Mignon, chimichurri sirloin, piri piri shrimp, and orange garlic pork loin. These were also accompanied by raw veggies, and six different dipping sauces, all of which were superb. Our initial first impression of the quantity of food, was that it would not be enough, however we were assured that it would be. Our waiter went so far as to say that if it wasn't he would bring out another plate of meat at no extra cost! the amount would've been right for two, however our waiter underestimated my 8 and 5 year old. I asked how much more would it be to bring an extra plate of meat out, and Tom said there would be no charge and brought out that extra helping, a smaller plate albeit, but enough to satisfy all four of us. Our night ended with a dark chocolate dulce de leche fondue, in which we dipped a variety of delicacies, ranging from sliced bananas, strawberries, marshmallows, brownies, cheesecake, and rice krispies treats. To sum it all up this place deserves its current 3 and a half rating, mostly because it is pricey for the amount of food one gets, it is great food though, and a unique experience. the extra star and a half was because of Tom, our waiter, he went all out and really made our night a fantastic experience, we will request him, if we return, and you should too!.......cheers yelpers!!

Dinner was okay, I agree with other reviewers that the meats, seafood, etc all tasted the same because they were all cooked together in the same broth. Regarding dessert, two words: Hershey's syrup. The waiter said the chocolate is melted in the kitchen, but it was brought out cold, yet still as a liquid.. ??? As soon as we tried it, the taste was unmistakable. Classic Hershey's syrup. Not that it's a bad thing, but for the price, one would expect real chocolate to be melted in front of you. We were expecting a nice night out and were willing to pay for it, and we were really disappointed with the amount and quality of what we got.

I want to give it a 5 because of the food and fun. But, the cold draft from the door was a problem for the family. That will be fixed soon from what I hear. Also, it takes a long time, so don't be in a hurry. Great meal, great fun!

My two best friends and I come every few months for girls' night and it's our favorite! We have a favorite server, Shana, who we always request. She is awesome and remembers our preferences and little details about our lives. The food is always A1! We always do the 4-course experience. Last night, we started with the Bacon and Brie cheese which was to DIE for! You must try it if you haven't yet done so. I recommend making reservations if you go on the weekend. It's always packed. My only complaint is people that bring small children, which is obviously not the fault of the restaurant, but annoying none the less!

Our service was great. All was going well until the Choc course came and we were served stale pound cake and Rice Krispie treats. We asked for new ones and the replacements were just as bad. Why wreck a good meal at the end like that?

Came here on a Saturday night with a party of 5. They sat us after 15 minutes of checking in although they had multiple tables open, which I didn't understand. I really liked the place. Our waitress Lexie was great. Prompt and friendly service. She explained the menu well. We ordered two of the 4 course fondue experience and the rest had a la carte items. We tried the Brie cheese and the cheddar fondues, both were delicious. For salads, we had the house and the California, and both were crisp, fresh and tasty. For entrees, we tried the Land & Sea, the angus sirloin, the teriyaki sirloin and the melting pot favorite. Being a fondue restaurant, the entrees come out raw but seasoned, and you cook them in your pot. I really enjoyed the experience. The meat was tender and tasty, although after you find your favorite dipping sauce, things start to taste similar. Finally, we had the flaming turtle and the peanut butter chocolate fondues. The desserts are 5 star quality, and I would come here for the dessert alone too. It was a chocoholic's dream! Would definitely come here again. If you don't enjoy cooking your own entree don't come this is not for you.

Came here accidentally on a Saturday night with a party of 5. The place is nice and big. I've never been here before and had no idea what to expect. We got two 4 course meals and 3 main dishes, and felt like there was enough food. For the cheese we got cheddar and Brie without bacon. It comes with green apple slices, white and brown bread, veggies like broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. The food was plentiful and delicious. Can't decide which was better! Our server prepared the cheese right in front of us in our 2 pots. For the salads we got California (my fav) and the melting pot special house salad, which was good too. The salad is a big enough portion that can be shared. For the mains we got Angus beef, teriyaki beef, surf and turf. It was all delicious. I would choose the sirloin next time as it was most tender. Don't forget the veggies inside the pots, especially the potato! So delish. Definitely don't skip dessert. We got flaming turtle and the original which comes with peanut butter. Wow! We had to get an extra plate of dipping goodies for all of us for $5. I'd come back just for the exquisite dessert, yum! Our server was excellent. Service was great. Food was a lovely experience and delicious. Like everyone mentioned, it is a tad overpriced. If you don't want to spend all this money just come for the dessert, it's worth it.

I didn't think I was going to like this place because it gives off the impression of Applebees but with a concept and... meh. I was really wrong about it though. I thought they did a good job of table-side cooking which can just be awkward but it wasn't - they go fast and efficiently. We got the classic Alpine cheese which I don't recommend because they put a ton of nutmeg in it and that was kind of gross. I wanted the quatro formaggio but got voted down. The salad was awesome - the wedge has full strips of bacon on it. The entrees were what really won me over - we got an assortment of shrimp, tuna, teriyaki beef, filet, and chicken and they came with six different sauces which blew my mind. I love having a variety of dips so I absolutely loved that. They give some quick instructions about how to cook each one so that made it easy to cook it how you want it. We didn't get dessert but I would definitely be interested in that - they looked awesome. The only thing I don't like is the price - we went for one of their special double date nights where it was 99 bucks for four people and you get a cheese, 4 salads, 4 entree plates and 4 glasses of wine. That seemed worth it but I wouldn't ever go unless it was for a special.

Extremely Unhappy!! First time here and service was the worst I've had in a very long time anywhere. After complaining, the manager served our dinner and another server tried to help, we didn't even want to stay for their chocolate dessert fondue (and I was looking forward to that!). Waited more than 15 minutes for our drinks. I wasn't done with my drink and it was gone, replaced by a fresh one I didn't want or ask for. Won't be back. In their defense, other servers seemed attentive - pray that you get one of them - steer clear of Phil.

Came there on accident after a rude and bad experience at kreuse & meuer next door. Excellent experience but it is for high income people... Dont allow yourself to skip dessert! Its the best part! I keep coming back

I love the Melting Pot! Here's the deal though. The only time worth going is for some kind of deal night, like Ladies Night Out or Restaurant Week. YES, it's expensive. BUT, it really doesn't have to be thaaat expensive. For both of these events, it's $19 for a cheese fondue, salad, and chocolate fondue. Not a bad deal, considering how AMAZING the food is. I've heard that the entrees aren't worth the price because you basically just use the fondue pots to cook them yourself- they're not dipped in delicious cheese or anything. I've never needed to worry about that though, since they give you enough food to leave you absolutely stuffed from just the other three courses! Every time I've been there my friend and I have never even been able to finish all the desserts because we're so full. Anyway, I'm a huge fan. I will never pay full price because they do enough deals where that really won't ever be necessary, but the food is so excellent that it is well worth my $20. Cheese, salad, and chocolate are perfect! Definitely worth saving the money and just not getting an entree, because like I said, the rest definitely filled me up and then some!

Happy hour cheese & chocolate $8.95 x2 for two in the bar! Drinks $5. There is a Groupon out there for $40 for dinner for two!

Melting pot is a great restaurant not so much to get stuffed with food, but instead more of a sophisticated atmosphere for groups to socialize in. Get all the courses you want paired with drinks and enjoy! Don't forget to get the pocket book this place is pricey! However, nothing a big group can't handle. The server takes your order and will bring your meat choices raw. They will then give you a choice between broth and oil to cook your meat in. (Broth all the way) try the chocolate fondue with fruits and delicious sweet carbs! My personal favorite is the rice crispy cubes dipped into the chocolate! You won't be disappointed with any decision you make her. After a long week it's well worth a night out at the melting pot!

Yelp states that the ambience is romantic it definitely is not. Yelp states it isn't for kids there had to be 50 kids half of them screaming last night. The presentation was nothing less than depressing they throw a pot in front of you turn it on and walk away and while its smoking in your face they come back to check and see what you'd like. It would've been nice if half of the clientele had worn shoes and clean T-shirts. Yuck. I give two stars because our server was lovely. Need to rethink yelps opinions!

We came in more than ready to spend money, but we left wondering whether or not we even had a good time. It was just so boring. Our waitress was really sweet, but there was just nothing about our meal that was at all impressive. Everything seemed to take a long time to come out, I feel like the whole point of having a course based menu is that there isn't a wait between courses, and the restaurant was actually pretty slow. We ended up spending $100 (and a $20 dollar tip) for a meal that we actually kind of regret. Overall, the experience just wasn't fun enough or high end enough to not feel ripped off when you realize you just spent 20 dollars for a plain uncooked entree plate of vegetables. Our night that was supposed to be romantic and fun ended up being underwhelming and boring. The theme of the night was "...should we leave?"

You ever see those sitcoms where the characters are forced to do something they don't normally do (play in a band, package chocolates, etc), and it's clear they have NO idea of what they're doing? That's what my experience felt like tonight. Now, don't get me wrong; I love fondue, and the Melting Pot in particular. I've eaten at this chain several times, and I have never been disappointed. Tonight's debacle was a game changer. I received an email from the Melting Pot (I'm a fan, and on their email list), telling me that every Thursday in April is ladies night - where they have a $25.99 menu, and there would be makeovers and psychics. I thought that sounded like fun, so I called up my girlfriend and asked her to go with me. Dining out in a weeknight is a huge luxury for both of us; she's a married mom of two, and I'm a single mom of one - so planning this night required careful planning and babysitters. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:40 - five minutes before our 7:45 reservation. We were told (rudely), that there would be a fifteen minute wait. No problem, we said; point is towards the makeovers and psychics. The hostess told us we had to have an appointment with the psychic (not mentioned anywhere on their email or website). They weren't doing makeovers tonight, either - that was next week. I pointed out that her sign said that the makeovers and psychics were both listed on the sign for tonight, and that it was disappointing that their information was misleading. She smiled at me condescendingly and said through a fake smile, "I'm sorry you misunderstood the event." I'm not sure how I misunderstood what was happening - I was just looking for what they advertised. We had a seat in the lobby, and after half an hour, I inquired politely how much longer it would be (it was 8:15 by this point). The hostess looked at me, sighed, and indicated they had a bunch of tables that wouldn't leave; but that it shouldn't be much longer. We were finally sat at our table 50 minutes past our reservation. They sat the two of us at a table for six, next to three very large, very loud parties. We could barely hear one another, which was frustrating. We had two different waitresses come up and assure us someone would be with us shortly - only to have our order taken by the manager. Then finally our waitress came by and took over after the cheese course. She was cute - and really clumsy. She also didn't turn the heat up for our dinner course - so the cooking times were all off on the food - meaning instead of two minutes to cook the chicken, it was taking between eight and ten. The potatoes were still crunchy. When the waitress finally came back, we asked her about it. She turned up the heat, and the food cooked. The pricing for $25.99 was for cheese fondue, a small salad, and dessert. For $10 more, we upgraded to include the meat. We should have stuck with the salad. For $10, you get approximately four bites of steak, one ounce of chicken, and four shrimp (which I don't eat), one with broccoli, mushrooms, and potatoes. One more thing: there was no spice to our dinner...not even salt and pepper. The entree was bland and tasteless; such a disappointment after the awesome cheese fondue. I'm so very disappointed. I expected more from you, melting pot.

The Melting Pot in Troy is the type of place that you must try at least once. One recurring theme I've heard about them is that the dessert is superior to the cuisine and while I agree, it doesn't detract from how good the food actually is. It's just that the chocolate fondue is absolutely & outrageously fantabulous and they give you fun stuff like rice crispy treats to dip into it =) The overall ambiance has a very nice vibe with dim lighting and a fairly decent bar in the back which comes in handy should you arrive to a half hour wait like we did on a recent Saturday night. After sipping on wine and beer served by a fairly arrogant and lackluster bartender, the birthday girl and I were seated in an intimate booth that had a lush red paisley backsplash. For some reason, there was a volume knob for the music behind us and we had a server come and turn it down a few notches after we turned it up, lol. I forgot our servers name but she was extremely outgoing and did a wonderful job of guiding us through the elaborate 4-course process of dining here. We exchanged friendly banter with her all night. We selected the Land and Sea with chicken, steak and shrimp. Good quality meat and seafood from what I could tell although the portions were far from large. The cheese we chose was very sharp, I wish we would have gotten something spicier or slightly less zesty. The cooking option we went with was called Mojo and again, I'd go in another direction next time because it was a little too basic and salty in my opinion. On our next occasion here, I think we'll go another route like the one with ron burgandy wine. As others have mentioned, this is an ideal destination to take a date or to have fun with a small group of friends. We definitely had an enjoyable time and will come back in the near future.

We had such an amazing date last night. This is a perfect spot for a romantic night out. Thank you so much Phil for being on point with your service. If you want an amazing server ask for Phil. He knows the menu very well and was extremely helpful with everything. I did t feel rushed even when they were closing. I feel that it's so important to have a great server as well as a wonderful meal. The melting pot was perfect. It was expensive but worth it. We will be back.

Update! Came here today for Troy Restaurant Week, with 1 Melting Pot newbie and 1 who had been before but only for the cheese and chocolate fondue. We had a fantastic time and $15 for a 3-course meal is a steal. Pros: food was fantastic, decent service, nice atmosphere. Cons, which knocks it from a 5-star to 4-star: bathroom was a bit messy and running out of TP, there was a draft in the restaurant coming from somewhere and if I hadn't been wearing a long-sleeved tee, I would've been freezing. I'd definitely come back here though. Going to take my mom to the Novi location next month for some chocolate birthday fondue, that's the only area location I haven't been to (been here and to A2 a few times).

I was recently in Troy shopping for a girls weekend. We decided on Melting Pot for dinner because seriously who doesn't love chocolate and wine. I am so glad we stopped in. Our server was fantastic and his suggestions were spot on. We decided on a three course option- house salad, cheese, and chocolate. When we got to the chocolate order our waiter suggested we add caramel to the chocolate peanut butter order. O.M.G it was amazing. I visited this chain at other locations. The food is very similar but the service at this location is the best I've experienced.

The Melting Pot is not a restaurant, it's a dining experience.. You walk in and you can expect to remain there for the next three hours. It's a pricey place but the quality and the experience is worth every cent. Five stars for me is extremely rare but this place earned it. It was my birthday when we went. The complimentary valet leaves you with a VIP feeling, and the valet staff are the friendliest I've met. He introduced himself and remembered exactly who I was and what car I drove in with when I left three hours later. We had a reservation so the hostess escorted us to the table, the waitress was extremely friendly... Knowledgable.. And very pleasant. She took the time to chat with our group, share experiences at the restaurant that helped us navigate the menu. We all got the four step experience, which is their crown jewel. She also explained how she would cook the food in front of us and was very assertive in pointing out the safety tips. The soup, salad, and cheese dip arrived very quickly and was absolutely. Our glasses were never empty either. When the raw food arrived we all excitedly dove into the culinary experience of cooking our own food. One of our friends had an accident where he dropped his food on the table. The bus staff saw to it that he still got a chance to enjoy a replacement for the lost piece of meat. Just prior to dessert the staff surprised me (not in the loud distracting way) with a candle and some chocolate covered strawberries. When the dessert came, we got the chocolate fondue and banana foster fondue. Both to die for!!! One member of our party really liked the Rice Krispie cubes so they brought more for him. Again, this place is a bit pricey, and I would not suggest this place for small groups of people unless it's an anniversary date. For three hours, you're gonna want a large group of people to pass the time. The quality and service at this restaurant was just incredible.. Kudos to the team and thank you for the fantastic service! Best birthday dining ever.

The food is great but the portions are small for the price. I'm 110 pounds soaking wet and I still never walk out of there full even though the bill is never under $100 for two. The thing that irritates me the most about them is how they make you wait forever to get sat when the restaurant is empty. I came on a Monday at 5:15pm and they were gonna wait to seat me and my date. No one was there! After 15 mins we left and went to a place across the street and sat immediately. I've experienced this weirdness when I've gone to them in other states. It's easier to walk in than make a reservation in some and others you apparently need a reservation at 5pm on a Monday. Restaurants that make themselves into this big production are actually annoying and not impressive at all. Get over yourselves please and just seat the customers when they arrive.

So on my previous review I had said that I've been to the melting pot for only dessert well tonight jan 16 I decided to try there dinner some people said it was good and some people said mehh so I was well aware there portions were tiny before hand but my overall experience was ok it wasn't something you can't do at home I feel like being at a restaurant id rather have my food cooked for me imo but everything has its experience also the waitress took our order and then would disappear and help other tables on the other side of the restaurant which kinda had us wonder where she went and we had to contently ask this other gentlemen for refills on drinks and etc.. So as far as going there again maybe Dessert but that's all

The Melting Pot is a unique concept and perhaps worth trying on a cold night without any plans (usually takes awhile). I can somewhat understand the expensive prices since people tend to come in large groups and large groups tend to stay longer. And that makes the turnover reduced. However, the food was okay (not worth the price especially if you don't have a coupon/discount) and the employees seemed to be trying too hard to converse with us (it seemed unnatural at best or extremely fake at worst). Additionally, the service seemed inconsistent - we seemed to have to get someone else to flag down our waiter while the tables around us seemed to be visited 2-3x as often. Might just get the fondu and dessert if we come back.

We took the kids recently for their first fondue. A fun dining experience. But the prices are pretty outrageous with super skimpy portions. Kind of crazy when you think that we are actually cooking our own food! So I'd say its a once in a rare occasion kind of place for when we a unique experience. But if we want to do a real fondue meal we will probably just make it at home. PS I hated the booths! I felt jammed into the table.

I went there with my boyfriend. And it was our first time dining in there and we didn't have an idea as to what kind of restaurant it was but we wanted to come in and have a try. The Layout was very nice and romantic dimming lights were a plus. Our server Joshua was excellent at walking us through what the restaurant offered and what it was about. He was very attentive and asked us how each of our appetizers, salad, main entrees, and dessert was. It was a different but yet very tasty experience.

We visited Friday night to celebrate our 2nd anniversary, and had a great time as usual. We got there about a half an hour before our reservation, but got right in. Our waitress was Arlyn, and she was fantastic. We told her about our last visit with Phil and how he was able to make our old favorite that was not on the menu anymore, and she did the same thing without hesitation. She even knows Phil and had him swing by and say hi quickly. She made our night amazing and fun and we would love to come back and visit her in the fall after our first child is born! I always love coming to this location because it never fails to deliver an amazing experience.

Yes, the cost of the Melting Pot is a little expensive. But you know that going into it, and you're there twice as long as you would be at any other restaurant. I myself am a very picky eater and don't like trying new things. So I was very nervous when my boyfriend booked a reservation there for our anniversary dinner. We had a private booth in the corner that was very romantic because it had walls that separated us from the other people next to us, and we actually sat next to each other, not across from each other which was nice. The waiter, Justin was AMAZING. He was super friendly, nice and he explained everything that I needed or wanted to know when trying something new. Hands down the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. All four courses were delicious and I loved it so much I returned to buy a gift card for a family member. It has been two months since I've been and I'm still raving about it. Definitely worth checking out. I will be back!

We went for a birthday celebration. Service was not good if this was a lower end chain restaurant - certainly poor for the price we paid.. We had a view of an un-cleared table full of dirty plates, glasses, etc. all night. My first glass of wine had a swimmer, he lasted a while, but couldn't hold his alcohol. We tried the spicy French Quarter - I don't suggest it as it get's all the veggies overly flavored. Wine prices are high. We were there at 6:30 on a Monday night, expecting it to be kind of quiet. Instead, the place was almost full. I was tempted to go with just 2 stars, but I add the third because dining here is an event. It is fun and the quality of the ingredients is good. Still, for the price, I expect more.

Just to preface what to expect you need a full two hour to have a meal here, very nice environment amazing food and quite a nice romantic evening for a couple to have together. Be prepared to drop some cash though.

No, no, no, no, NO! Don't do it. This place is about "the experience", I'm sorry but if I wanted to cook my own food, I would've stayed home. I've been here twice and neither time impressed me. The price just made it worse. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because I would come here for desserts and drinks but that's it. That's the only good thing about this place.

If you want to know details about The Melting Pot, you can find it on their website, so I'm not going to explain the food here... but I want to talk about the experience. This place is amazing, and worth every penny for a fun night out or special event!! First off, make a reservation, otherwise you might not get seated or have to wait for hours for a spot. We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and were promptly seated. Our server was fantastic. He explained things when we had questions, offered excellent suggestions and was just the right level of conversational to make you feel welcome without being annoying! We had "The Big Night Out" and each course was even better than expected. The food was plenty, the atmosphere was excellent, and this place will definitely merit a return trip!

We had a terrible experience at the Troy Melting Pot. Let me preface this by saying that I was fully prepared to be there for a couple hours and I was aware of how the meal works even though I had never been there. We had reservations at 7:15 and found out that we couldn't be seated until our entire party arrived (one person was running about 10 minutes late). I hate that policy (we have a reservation, the table shouldn't be given away -- let us sit comfortably and have some drinks while we wait), but whatever. We stood by the bar and waited. Our friend arrived around 7:25 and told the hostesses our entire party was there and they said we'd be seated immediately. After several minutes no one had come near us, so we moved so we were standing by the hostess stand (and got blasted by cold air every time the door opened) and after several more minutes finally asked someone when we'd be seated. They said that our table was being bussed and then we could sit. Hmmmm, good thing we weren't all there at 7:15 because clearly our table wouldn't have been ready anyway. After another ten minutes we flagged down a hostess and asked if our table was STILL being bussed. She looked in the room and said it was in the process of being bussed. We explained that it had been over twenty minutes and that seemed like an awfully long time to bus a table and she rather rudely explained that they have to clean the burners and it takes a while. We finally got to our table at 8 PM, 45 minutes after our reservation time. We had six people and were seated at a table with 8 chairs and given 4 menus. We sat for 15 more minutes before our waiter came and brought us water and another menu, then another 5 minutes before he came to take our order. We were in the process of checking Open Table to see if we could go somewhere else and eat more quickly. We ordered drinks and our cheese course came before the drinks (again, 15-20 minutes after we ordered). When we asked about the drinks he said they'd be up soon. Having stood by the bar for nearly 30 minutes while waiting for our table, we knew the bartenders weren't busy -- mostly just standing around waiting. I'll sum up the rest of the evening by saying there was a lot of waiting. The cheese and chocolate were quite good but the meat and salad courses were nothing special, especially for the price. The drinks were weak and overpriced. There was a table next to us who sat with their menus for close to thirty minutes before their server came and ended up complaining to the manager, so it wasn't just us. In fact there were four tables in our room with four different servers and all the servers seemed to be missing for 20-30 minutes at a time. Maybe that's their "thing" -- to leave people alone with their food -- but it's frustrating when you need something and there's no one around. We left at 10:50, 3.5 hours after our reservation time. For the price, there are much better (non-chain) restaurants in the area that will provide excellent service and food. I won't be back here.

Our first time here. Went in with an open mind. Started off with a ten minute wait to be sitted. Waitress was more interested in selling us alcohol and being a comedian rather than explaining how the process works. The burners wasn't working properly so we started eating the bread and chips with cheese. Waitress gave us attitude for this!! Food had good flavor, average and just took forever!!! Poor attitude from waitress Dessert was great. I WILL NOT RETURN!!

Where do I start?? Ok so let's talk about the chocolate first. It's fantastic- the desserts to dip are divine, I was in heaven. I also had the the Godiva martini- it was interesting, filling and delicious, best to share that sweet drink to prevent sugar shock. Now let's talk about the "dinner". I hated it. Really hated it. I don't want to "cook" when I go out to eat. Ever. The cheese starter was yummy...then comes the meal. So wait a second- party of 5= 200.00 plus tip and you give me hot broth to dip my raw meat in to cook it??? How the hell do I know when it's done? It was dark in there. This brought on anxiety and angst. I was pissed. Just bring me my food cooked and all is well. Too much work, I guess you're paying for the novelty of it? I didn't get it...for those prices, I want a toga clad man feeding me grapes dipped in chocolate. No thanks, I'll stick to their dessert and cheese dips.

If you like bland cheese fondue accompanied by stale bread & chips then come on by! I'm sad to say that my first meal here will be my only. This place is way overpriced for the quality & quantity of food served. Such a disappointment but at least the staff is nice!

Wanted to try something different so I picked to dine at the Troy melting pot. It wasn't a bad dining experience just didn't blow me away. I had heard lots of hype about the whole fondue cooking and it wasn't bad by any means just not something that I enjoyed. The meal took longer than I like to take for a dinner. The service was decent. If I was to go back I would plan on being there for about 2 hours

Honestly I wasn't impressed. The ambiance is very nice for a date for sure. It's a bit pricey, but for a nice dessert that's different I'd pay a little more. And we did. My honey and I went for a belated Sweetest Day date. I'd been wanting to try this place forever. The waitress was attentive and it wasn't too busy so I think that helped. The actual dessert just wasn't that impressive. We got the Turtle - like fondue with milk chocilate, caramel and pecans. The thing is, the quality of the chocolate just wasn't that good, it was a bit watery and tasted more like sugar than chocolate. The pecans had some type of sugar coating but you could tell they were from a package and not freshly made. And the amount of items they gave you to dip for two people was more like the amount for one person. You got basically two of each item to dip. And the quality of the items just wasn't that good. Listen, I've had some AMAZING desserts at small coffee shops that were better than the dessert I had here. Bottom line is we probably won't be back because I think I can make a better fondue at home.

Troy Restaurant Week!! Well well, what can I say, I've been dying to try this restaurant! Troy restaurant week is the best time to try it, as the price is somewhat reduced. With that being said, I probably won't go back at any other time. While a spectacular girls night out was had, this place is a little overrated, if you ask me. The CHEESE - The cheese was good, we had the Wisconsin Trio Cheese Fondue, and the Spinach Artichoke Cheese Fondue. Yummy, it got a little warm and smoky at our table as our waiter Brian prepared the cheese, but we at it up no problem, The SALAD - Good good, it was a salad, so how much can I praise some lettuce and gorgonzola...delicious... The MEAT - (Coq au Vin & Bourguignonne cooking sauces) Here's were things started to get a little confusing. None of us had been to The Melting Pot, and they plop down two plates of meat, 6 different sauces, two batters and away Brian went. He gave us the instructions, 2 if by land, 1 if by sea, for the cooking times for your meat, and told us how to batter up a mushroom and deep fry it. He quickly explained the sauces and we were on our own! Needless to say, I wish they had little cards at the table restating some of the sauces, and then suggesting them with certain meats, but we managed and got through the course, with out any injuries (the oils are HOT). The CHOCOLATE!!! - Saved the night! Yummy Yum Yum!! This course however had one of us gals wishing she had waited to eat that flambéed Marshmallow before bringing it to her lip and then removing skin in the process.....don't we remember campfires Kristin! But I digress.....we then had Dan the Magician come to our table with a few card tricks and it yet again livened up this rowdy bunch of girls (Sorry Princess for ruining your birthday dinner - table next to us who left in disgust because we were having too much fun, albeit one cuss word was said aloud after the lip burning incident) and had us seriously wiped out after being there for 3 HOURS!! haha All in all the night was fun. Brian our waiter was a pleasant guy, the Manager Ryan was also happy we had fun, and they both took care of us to ensure a good time was had. And it was a GREAT time! I would only go here again, if I truly wanted the Fondue experience. The food isn't THAT great, it's all about the atmosphere and what you're doing, and probably a lot to do with who your doing it with. I'm so glad I was never brought here on a first date or anything, I had cheese and chocolate all over me! A definite sign of a good time!

Our waiter was superb. Food was okay. The hostess were complaining about customers two feet away from us. It was really awkward. I give this place 4 stars for the server we had.

I've never been to the Melting Pot before this evening but have heard a lot of good things about it from friends. My husband and some friends went the other night from a Groupon deal, which was awesome! Very romantic setting with our table tucked in a small room with one other table. The other table was a little loud for my taste. Our meal included 4 courses and a glass of wine. Love each course especially the cheese and chocolate ones! I would definitely recommend this place for a date night. It's very intimate.

The boyfriend and I came here for our Big Night Out during his last visit. We decided to do the four course classic for two. $77/couple. We made reservations on a Tuesday and was stuck with a 7pm reservation for Sunday. It was for the Thanksgiving weekend or it may be because of their groupon promotion. I am not sure. We arrived a bit early. After a wait we were promptly seated at 7pm. We were given a booth and was introduced to the place by a man in a suit. We never saw him again. Our server came shortly after and since my bf and I looked over the menu the night before we ordered right away. Traditional Swiss Cheese Fondue (Gruyère and Emmenthaler Swiss cheeses come together with white wine, garlic, nutmeg, lemon and Kirschwasser) - This was a bit strong for me but it was tasty. I went to melting pot once before back in California for Girl's Night. We had the spinach artichoke cheese fondue. That was amazingly good. Came with bread, broccoli, cauliflower, and green apples. California Salad (Mixed baby greens, Roma tomatoes, candied pecans and rich Gorgonzola cheese with Raspberry Black Walnut Vinaigrette) - I miss home so how can I pass up some California salad. I also really like Gorgonzola cheese. Comes with a heaping amount of dressing in a small shallow dish. Don't go crazy and pour the entire thing over your salad. The dressing is a nice fruity sweet and strong enough that you don't need that much. THIRD COURSE* (Sesame-crusted sushi-grade ahi tuna, succulent white shrimp, seasoned choice angus sirloin, herb-crusted all-natural chicken breast and teriyaki-marinated sirloin) with Burgundy wine infused with fresh herbs, spices and mushrooms - This was pretty fun. Who has ever done this? It was pretty flavorful. The chicken was probably the most boring dish. My favorite was probably the beef. Comes with mushrooms, potaotes, and broccoli. They also provide 6 different types of sauces to complement the protein and veggies. Cookies 'n Cream Marshmallow Dream (Escape in a world of dark chocolate topped with marshmallow cream flambéed and topped with bits of delicious Oreo® cookies.) - Came with fresh strawberries, bananas, cheesecake, Rice Krispies Treats®, marshmallows, pound cake and brownies - it was good! we weren't able to finish all the chocolate. not even close. my favorite was probably the marshmallows. the pound cake was already a bit chocolaty to be dipped in more chocolate. Our server was really nice and charismatic! One downside to this place is that the bathroom is quite a journey. They do not have their own bathroom but uses the bathroom of the building they are housed in. I don't like that. Overall, we had a great experience. My boyfriend was significantly full and I was just right. If you guys can't eat a lot then this 4 course classic is not for you. I would love to come back just for the cheese fondue.

my boyfriend and i went there for our one year anniversary dinner, it was my first time but his second time. we were seated immediately even though we didn't have a reservation and our waitress, holly was AMAZING. she explained the menu because it was a little confusing and was very patient. we ended up having an a wonderful time and we didn't mind the expensive price because it was worth it. my boyfriend proposed and i accepted. upon haring the good news, holly congratulated us and made us a compliment "she said yes" dessert plate....i will definitely be returning :)

I snapped up one of those daily deal emails for this location, and Ken and I made a weekend of it in Troy. Our $40 deal covered the $75 four-course dinner for two plus a glass of wine each. Our waitress let us substitute protein choices (for example, we went with Old Bay shrimp rather than one of the steak options) AND substitute any alcoholic drink we wanted instead of the glass of wine (so I got to try their delicious dirty martini and Ken got some huge bottle of beer that actually came in it's own ice bucket!). We went with their featured cheese fondue first course - cheddar, beer, bacon and scallions. I'm a purist when it comes to the cheese fondue, so I didn't love it.. but Ken was in heaven. I will admit that I liked the flavor combination of the sharper cheese with the beer. Ken chose the spinach mushroom salad, which he liked. (I fondly remember the mushroom salad they previously served, and miss it dreadfully). My salad choice was the featured wedge, covered in blue cheese, bacon and tomatoes. Yum. The only negative I have to say about our main fondue course was that we went with hot oil (rather than our usual red wine + mushroom option). Cooking in hot oil is a lot of work! We found the batter slid off the mushroom caps (which we filled with Green Goddess sauce), and that was one of the deep fried things we were the most looking forward to trying. I won't get oil again in the future. Our dessert choice was milk chocolate + crunchy peanut butter. I liked it, but didn't love it as much as I'd hoped. We made reservations for 8pm Saturday, which was smart as they were completely full (when I called earlier in the day to see if we could move to 7pm). We had one of those small two-person booths, with high walls, so we felt very private. Our waitress did a wonderful job.

Great place for a date night, or girls night out! They have a wonderful wine selection and they staff is great at making recommendations. (I ordered a piesporter and my server suggested I try the moscato, never had it before, LOVED it!) The thing I love about the food is, yes it is tasty and delicious, but I always leave satisfied! Not stuffed, satisfied! You eat for a good 2 hrs, and your belly is full, but you dont feel like you need a nap or have to loosen your belt! lol Cheese fondue is good, personally I enjoy the traditional cheddar...c'mon....beer AND cheese?! I'm sold! Main course is a variety of meats and seafood, and there are a few ways to cook. broths or oil. I recommend the mojo style! It is broth garlic, citrus, and cilantro. Dessert.....10 different kinds of chocolate to pick! I am drooling just thinking about it.

The food was good and everything, but as a first time goer to this restaraunt was confused by the waiter very confusing explanation of the menu, then a bus boy came over and stood and stared at my party for two minutes before saying why he was there, also our main waiter was gone for up to 25 minutes at a time probably smoking weed in the back with the bus boys. Good food but service and after taking 3 hours to eat and having to cook my own food and just being served food from costco, I wouldn't recommend it again.

What a wonderful first experience at The Melting Pot. My expectations were high and I felt it was exceeded. I made our reservations for 8 p.m. Saturday, showed up a half hour early and hoped we could be seated (yeah, we were one of THOSE people). We were seated right away. Our server was nice and personable without being overly nosy about our personal lives, and explained the menu thoroughly even though I'm still puzzled about the whole "Big Night Out" concept. What's the point of that if I can substitute everything but the third (main) entree? With the American theme, the main entree's selections did not sound appetizing, so we went for the four-course for $77 and added the $6 extra for Coq au Vin. We started off with the Wisconsin trio. Good, but ... well ... very cheesy. Even though the fondue stayed heated the whole time, by the end of it, I felt the cheesy didn't taste as fresh as the start. Next time I might go for the spinach artichoke. Salad course we both got the California, and that was exceptional because of the raspberry black walnut vinaigrette. Not sure if it's homemade but it definitely didn't taste too watery or too sugary like it came out of a bottle. The third course: ahi tuna, shrimp, sirloin, chicken and teriyaki sirloin. My favorite was the teriyaki. Dip that in the plum sauce and it's mouth-watering. (By the way, you get about eight different sauces to dip your meats in.). We also got a side of vegetables. By the time dessert rolled around, we were well into our food coma. But we couldn't pass up the chocolate s'mores, especially when you can dip bananas, strawberries, rice crispies, pound cake, cheesecake and other things I can't remember. While I loved the hint of marshmallows with the chocolate, it was a little thicker for my liking, especially at the end of the meal. Next time, I'll go with the regular chocolate. In order to enjoy your experience, you have to set aside two hours and have good company to fill up the time you're cooking your food.

Melting pot. Stopped in for an app and a drink. Expected more. The cheese fondue was whack, but the sides brought out to accompany it should have been thrown out a week ago. Stale bread and brown broccoli leaves me questioning my return. Didn't have entrées so I cannot speak to that, but there's plenty better places to spend your bucks than the MP. I get it it's a different dining experience, but aside from that so so service and low quality product will leave you wondering if you should come back...

This is a good place to eat for groups of people to have good conversation. I went with my boyfriend's family once and another time with my own family. Both visits we did the four course meal, which I think is a pretty good choice. You get salad to start, then a cheese fondue, the main course, and a desert fondue. Dinner will definitely take a decent time since each course requires you to have a different pot (cheese, oil, chocolate). The food itself is not necessarily fantastic, but it is a very unique experience and it's fun cooking your own meats in the oil pot. It is not a place I would constantly return to, but it is good to try at least once.

My friends and I went here for Troy's restaurant week and it was MAGIC! With the 35$ it was all-you-can eat cheese, main course and desert fondue!!! Our first course included 2 cheese pots, which we picked the cheddar cheese pot and the spinach and artichoke swiss-cheese pot. The cheddar cheese was wonderful! It had hints of Worcestershire sauce, wine and garlic. The Spinach and artichoke was great too! It had a sweet hint to it and the artichokes and spinach weren't from a can or some salty-ass brine that taste gross, oh no, it tasted fresh and well-incorporated in the dip. The sides that were dipped were crusts of bread (white and pumpernickel), veggies, apples and nachos. For our main course we had the coq-au-vin broth and the mojo broth. The coq-au-vin was fantastic! It had notes of mushrooms, garlic, wine and provincial herbs that were sublet, but increased the flavors of the sides. The mojo was ok (I'm not a fan of cilantro, in fact I'd rather cut out my own tongue than eat it) if you like cilantro, then you'll adore it. The sides were fillet of beef, steak, shrimp, chicken, vegetables (potato and mushrooms) and had 6 dipping sauces (one more delicious then the other and from all over the map) For desert we had the house chocolate pot which was milk and dark chocolate with peanut butter and the snickers pot. The house chocolate was the best, in my opinion, because it wasn't too sweet and had the warmth of the peanut butter that enveloped your tongue... It was sexual... Maybe too sexual... I need to slow down. ... Anyway the snickers chocolate pot was good - it was VERY sugary and had a lot of things going on. Our dipping sides were an assortment of fresh fruit, marshmallows, cheesecake and Rice Krispy Teats. The meal and setting were to DIE for.... DIE... DEATH... DYING FOR!!!! Plus our waiter was there every step of the way advising us what to choose based on our individual pallets, which was super helpful and nice. I plan on going back again... After I wipe my mouth off because I'm salivating like a dog from the thought alone of the food.

This place seems to get mixed reviews - either people hate it or they absolutely love it. I personally don't see how anyone could hate this place!! My husband took me here for my birthday - the food was amazing. We got the "Big Night Out" with the "Wine and Beer Flight" (I had the wine). In it, you get a four course meal with wine or beer that pairs perfectly with each course. I'm usually not a big fan of lobster because it can be tough depending on how its cooked but the lobster here is the best lobster I have ever had, and the wine that was paired with it enhanced the flavor even more. To top off the meal, our server created a Twix Fondue for us (not on the menu) that taste exactly like the candy bar. CRAZY GOOD!
