They're pretty good! I really enjoyed the three rolls that I bought on two separate occasions. The Spider Roll, Crazy Salmon Roll (BEWARE: this one is spicy. Spicier than I thought) and the California Roll. The one thing that I didn't like was the Fried Rice that I got on another visit. It had a unique taste. It wasn't bad, it just had a different flavor than what I'm used too. But overall, they are a god sushi place. Hopefully, they stay that way since they changed ownership.

Came here for lunch and the service was fast, especially when you get an hour for lunch from work. Downside is the parking lot. I had to park in the way back behind Kerby's, so walking to the restaurant wasn't fun. You place your order at the front and get a table number. There was a refrigerated area of things to buy already made. In the back is a small grocery type area with items to make sushi. I got the Philadelphia Roll (have to pick up your own food from the counter and turn in your table number) and I felt that the roll was a bit smaller in size than other sushi restaurants I have been too. There was a fountain pop machine as well. I ate my 6 rolls and was still hungry plus my wallet felt the hit. The product didn't seem worth it for the price. I was hoping for some lunch specials, but I didn't see any posted. The restaurant is clean and bright inside. I might not go back since there are other sushi places around where I work, but then again maybe I'll give it another chance?

Had high hopes based on reviews: sadly disappointed. The place is an un-converted coffee shop, but it's dirty and not well kept. There is no service, you order at the counter and wait for your number then get the food yourself. There is a chilled cooler with ready-made sushi like whole foods in front. The sushi was dull, no play of flavor, we tried the flower roll and salmon lover: bland and over priced for the equivalent of grocery store sushi in a poor environment. Oh and you clear the table yourself.

My kids' favorite Japanese restaurant. Good sushi and very good curry rice which is a simple staple food in Japan, and hard to get here in the States. It's just counter service with a tiny grocery section. I prefer a real restaurant with alcohol, but in a pinch it's great and kinda better than nearby Noble Fish.

Love, love this place. If I could give it six stars I would. I've been eating here since it was called Nobana and a classmate's brother worked there as a dishwasher. My mom once took sushi-making classes here and came back with a platter of goodies and a box of fragrant sushi rice. The selection of Japanese snacks/teas/dried goods is well curated and tasteful. The tea is wonderful! My brother once got me a 64-pack of tea from this place and it was my favorite Christmas present that year. Whenever I come back to Troy I always, always stop inside. It's the place that most strongly resonates of my hometown - the place of dates, earnest lunches with my father, passive aggressive one-upmanships with people from my high school, carry-out, party platters. My favorite dishes: saba shoyaki, spicy salmon bowl, tuna roll, Michigan roll, eel and cucumber roll. Ugh just writing this review is making me hungry.

I tried this place for the first time and I was pretty impressed! I got the udon combo which had plenty of food for about 10 bucks. However, I will say the service could have been a little more welcoming!

My favorite dish is katsudon. This place has a good version of it. Thank goodness! Casual, order first and then you sit down. I usually order to go. They call your number when the order is up.

Absolutely love this place, and very decently priced considering it is in Troy where lots of other places are a bit overpriced to me. I love lunch combos and I got the udon combo, I chose tempura shrimp for my add in to the soup and it came with a choice of a roll, I chose salmon. It was all so very fresh and delicious. The portions are great too. Only $10! This place is more of a cafeteria style establishment where you order at the counter and pick up your food when it's ready but it was very fast, the employees are very nice and helpful, and also there is free green tea :) will definitely return to try more from the menu!

This is the sushi place that I wish would franchise and pop up as frequently as Subways. I live in the middle of the USA now, but this is still the standard that I hold sushi places to. Cheap, fresh, clean, unpretentious, fast and delicious. The best of all worlds.

A small little Japanese restaurant that I discovered when I was looking for a bite to eat before class. Food is relatively inexpensive, and always rather tasty. They have an assortment of Japanese rice and noodle dishes, as well as sushi selections. The hot noodle dishes are what I normally order. You can dine in, or carry out. I personally like them because they are very speedy, and it's good food, especially for the price. Most meals come with miso soup. Also, they carry an assortment of Japanese snacks and candies, which are always fun to try.

Amazing food! Quality is great. Fresh, fast and friendly. This place is always packed at lunchtime! I am very picky when it comes to sushi and they are one of my favs. Would highly recommend!

Everytime I come here I get super excited! It is very close to lifetime so usually eat before or after I work out. I know that does not sound very healthy, but all their dishes are extremely healthy and 'light'. I totally recommend their Avocado salad and udon soup! Furthermore they have a little shop in the back of the resteraunt, where I have already bought many Asian products!

YES! go. try it. it's a great experience. I used to come here all the time, but I haven't been around in years. it's just as good as I remember. coming from someone who eats at noble fish all the time, my sushi standards are pretty high. I wasn't disappointed. but noble fish only serves sushi, and here they have tons of other dishes like katsudon, tempura, ramen, udon, and my fav, takoyaki! I checked yelp before I went to see if they still had it and didn't see any mentions, so I had to make my review. they do have it, it's amazing, I would suggest it to anyone. also had a mini udon, which was fantastic. it is a get your food at the counter and take a number type place, but I really like it. it's faster and cheaper than a sit down place and the quality of the food isn't compromised at all. they do also have a selection of food items sort of like a convenience store, and the foods and snacks in packages do cost more than at noble fish or other asian grocery stores. keeping that in mind, it is nice to have some lychee mochi and canned coffee with your meal. the back looks a bit shoddy due to construction of more space for the convenience food, but the front looks welcoming and I love the counter set up with free hot tea. they have pre made sushi up front just like noble fish, and it's just as good. this is a great place for both carry out and sit down, as long as you don't mind picking up your tray and putting it away yourself.

Rating is for carry out sushi. I am new to this side of town, and needed a quick bite to eat and I've found a decent sushi place! I picked up two of the pre-made sushi trays for a quick lunch; one California Roll and one Michigan Roll. I was given ginger, wasabi and soy. I'm always a little hesitant to get the pre-made stuff, but I was in a rush, and thankfully, the sushi was fresh and very good. Not earth shattering good, but it was priced right for the amount of food that I got and worth the chance. I'd like to sit down and try some of their other offerings, but for now, it's a good spot for a quick sushi grab if that's what you're in the mood for.

Was sadly disappointed in our decision to go here instead of trek through the long wait at our usual spot. The rolls at Sushi Do were loosely rolled and the ingredients were not super fresh and flavorful like I am used to. The miso soup was not piping hot and, for me, this is always a bad sign and a big turn off. As for the staff, they seemed tired and noticeably miserable. Maybe they just had a long week. The cashier seemed completely uninterested and bored with our presence as well. Maybe he was just tired too. Understandable, as working on a Friday night sucks but still. Regardless, this comes down to the sushi and it really wasn't up to par. I told myself never to go anywhere for sushi other than Noble Fish and now I will always remember those words. It is possible I came in on an off night, but if not, Sushi Do has a lot of work to do.

  • Vik A.

Used to be really good but then a few months ago they changed the way they make Sushi, it used to small and had less rice, now its really big and thick. It has resulted in lack of taste and flavor! Wish they didn't try to "Americanize" their sushi? All self service i here including the table clearance after the meal.

Cafeteria style. Very busy at lunch. Prices are very reasonable. They have large selection and things like Katsura Curry and real Udon . This place is really clean and efficient. I wish I lived here.

Soooo. The food was really good, and I enjoyed my experience. Minus two things. Firstly, the sushi chef was using dehydrated and microwaveable Miso soup which was super disappointing. Secondly, For the first time in my sushi experience, and I have had a LOT, we were served what I can only describe as a Krab salad in the middle of one of our sushi rolls. And...Im pretty sure that any real sushi chef would have a stroke, because Im pretty sure you don't do that to the fish you put in the middle of a sushi roll. So. This place is great for beginner sushi eaters, or if you just can't find anything else nearby, but I implore you, please go try a real, down home, sushi restaurant, before you settle on Sushi Do, which is pleasant, but in my opinion, is the new McDonalds of the sushi world.

I came to this place last Sunday with my family and ordered a Udon, Curry udon, and spicy shrimp rolls. The service was decent--well they don't really have a waitress to serve you and you have to serve yourself, so I guess you can't really call it a service here. First thing that I want to talk about is the Udon because I was so disappointed. It terrible! The noodles just taste cheap like plain flour but worse--it was chunky as if it was in the soup for a really long time. Now that the udon was a goner, I was hoping for a decent roll to at least fill in my stomach. Unfortunately, that was not the case... The SPICY shrimp rolls weren't even spicy at ALL, and did not have ANY shrimp in it--the roll was mostly filled with imitation crabs--which made it taste exactly like a California roll except $5 more expensive. Why are they called the SPICY SHRIMP roll in the first place, when all they are is just a jumbo cali roll? This just made me so mad that I wanted my money back... In a nutshell, there are plenty great sushi places out there that won't leave you feel like you wasted your money on a crap. I will never come to this place ever again--not that I would drive hours to come to troy anyways. No wonder why there were no costumers when it was around 6 p.m.

I love me some Sushi-Do! This is the kind of place you come to for a craving, on a lunch outing. The prices are a tad on the high side for what you get, but worth it. They often have special combinations, and the menu has a nice spread from udons with shrimp tempura, or rolls on the side, to sushi platters. I much prefer my sushi experience to just be 'higher end' for lack of words. I like an 'experience' to go with it, and favor many other places that offer that for sushi. Sushi-Do to me is a gem with its non sushi-roll dishes. This little story is about the SPICY SALMON BOWL. I used to get the spicy tuna, but man did price go up on that with Tuna issues. The Salmon is extremely fresh every time, and I get this two times a week at least, as does my co-worker. Creamy spicy sauce, fish roe, match-stick cut fresh cucumber, and super fresh avocado. Cut it all together, and mix in a soy/wasabi mix and wow oh wow! The cafeteria style is fast and efficient. Parking can be an issue with the add on of the ever popular Jimmy John's next door. We walk over from work during the summer. It's in a great spot for local business.

Great tasting, and reasonably priced sushi and Japanese food. Quite often frequented by Japanese customers which is a good sign! We love the tonkatsu, udon noodle dishes, and salmon teriyaki. Not to mention several very good rolls!

Decent sushi offering with affordable prices. Better than the grocery stores (Kroger, Papa Joe's) sushi with the same price.

The sushi here is ok. Big rolls and good prices. I thought the rice was too mushy and wasnt that appetizing. We got the udon and sushi combo. The udon was plain, chicken broth or something. Not the usual udon im use to. Its a togo, order your food then come pick it up kinda place. Has feee green tea, which I enjoy the brand they have. I wouldnt go here again unless I really want sushi and theres no where else close.

Cheap sushi and cheap food. I had better sushi at a restaurant. This place is just a quick "sushi" restaurant to go. I would come here as a casual get together, but definitely not a place for a date or a fun setting. The rolls are pretty delicious. I usually order the tempura udon noodles.

    (3)
  • Erynne M.

Place looks and feels super cheap. The ginger salad greens were fresh tasting, but the ginger salad dressing was worse than mediocre. Tempura was the greasiest I've ever had and I ordered vegetable tempura they gave me shrimp. Not the end of the world. The spring rolls look gross on the inside but tastes OK. Chicken fried rice tasted extremely plain and just altogether weird...miso soup was very mediocre. Service was beyond bad. We just got a couple light things so maybe they have the best sushi ever but everything else was eh on a good day. Won't be back

  • Jessica X.

The sushi is pretty good compared to the other options that you have around the area, but it has nothing against the sushi you can get in authentic Japanese restaurants. They do have very big portions for how much it costs, so you will be full afterwards.

I think I'm rating Sushi Do a little higher than I would if I'd gone by myself. My husband and his office really like it, so I really want to ;) First obstacle, I've never had sushi, and on a quick lunch a half hour from home in the middle of a day of errands doesn't seem like an ideal time to try. So I had a noodle dish with shrimp. Very interesting sweet and spicy flavor. I liked it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again. And the free green tea sounds fabulous, if you like tea. At the risk of sounding high-maintenance, I have tried green tea, and I'm just not a fan. I know what you're thinking - why did I even choose to review Sushi Do if I didn't want to try anything they're known for as being good? Like I said, hubby and his cohorts like it. Because of that, I'll probably go back again. Maybe I'll be brave enough to try the Alaskan roll and give you a more authentic review ;)

  • Kelly L.

Rice was rubbery, shrimp was rubbery, rolls were falling apart. Won't be back. Too many other good sushi spots in the area to spend $50 dollars here on sub par sushi.

This will be a mixed updated review. I love their spicy tuna bowl, but more recently have noticed that their tuna is inconsistent everytime I come here. Some days it's really good, other days it's really bad. I also dislike how they don't cut out the white tissue from the tuna. Also the sushi we got kept breaking apart everytime we tried lifting it. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they just hired a new sushi chef who can't roll the sushi good enough, but the tuna is something they definitely need to fix.

Great sushi. We make this a regular stop when we visit family in the area. They have been incredibly helpful and accommodating to my son's dairy allergy. The kids love their avocado rolls. I'm partial to the sashimi salad and love the free green tea.

Sushi Do is not your typical Japanese sushi bar. It's an 'I have 20 minutes to get a quick lunch and I'm craving sushi' place. They have a great selection of super fresh to-go sushi. I enjoy the large fancy rolls split into half so you can get a taste of a Michigan Roll for example, but don't need to make a full commitment. They also have a nice variety of salads and fun cookies from a far. Prices are very reasonable, quality is good, and service is fast!

    (4)
  • Emet D.

It is a carry out place and is nothing fancy, but even so it had pretty decent quality sushies and noodles, which was better than my expectation. They have free green tea, which was a nice plus and they also had various Asian snacks that could be purchased (nice way to kill time). The only down side was that the wait for the food was not the quickest and the food for a carry out was maybe a couple dollars more than I would have thought, however the wait may have been due to the 2 customers before my order and the higher prices may have been to compensate for the tips.

Ok this place has definitely gone down hill. Comparing it to the other Sushi Do places in Clawson and Novi this one is bringing up the rear. On several occassions Ive found fish sinews as well as big pieces of bones in my roll. The chef is definitely not a very skilled one at butchering fish. I eat a lot of sushi and I only come here for a quick, simple meal. I used to like the gyoza soup but they don't offer it anymore. There are much better alternatives out there.

I am a huge fan of this place! I can't stop thinking coming here every week XD This sushi place is not like any other sushi restaurants. This is more like a self serve restaurant- kinda like PEI WEI or Fast Food Restaurant. You order at the counter and pay for it first. Then you bring your own food to the table. After you done eating, you need to bring your trays to the desinated shelf. This place offers many selection of sushi, my favorite are eel and cucumber roll, california roll, and Shirmp Tempura roll. I see a lot of people order sushi combo tray...and they look really delicious! They have lunch special and it is different every day. Sometimes, it is Bento(teriyaki chicken with rice and vegetable). or it is udon with sushi or Grilled Fish with rice and Salad on the side...etc. They will surprise you every day with different lunch or dinner special ^__^ Come to see for yourseif..they usually display the sample right when you walk in so you can decide if you like it or not. I usually order Soy Ramen and with extra few bucks you can pick Fried Dumpling or sushi combo with your order. and a side of my favorite sushi ^__^ Free green tea on the drink counter. This place also has a tiny Japanese Snack shop. It offers Japanese sweets, snack, cookies, teas, coffees, etc. The staffs are very friendly and helpful!!!! Definitely THE PLACE to go for lunch!!!

I love this place! And saying that is a big compliment. My mother is a Japanese native and has taken me to Japan many times, so I know how the food is suppose to taste. The sushi here is some of the best sushi I have ever had. The other food is really good as well. AND THEY SERVE RAMEN NOW!!! It's really hard to find some good ramen around where I live, the closest place use to be in novi but now they serve it here! Unfortunately, this is why I didn't give it five stars, the service can be a bit slow if you don't order sushi. The only really bad experience I've had here was during lunch where I had the day off. I came here and decided to order a beef don (which by the way is fantastic) and ended up waiting for over 40 minutes for my food! Other than that, this place is wonderful and I plan to keep coming back. Especially now that I have a points card! P.s. This restaurant is, as I would call it, "Japanese style", which means no tips. And it's also similar service to Pei Wei

I spent three years in Japan and my wife is from Japan. This is by far our favorite place to go for sushi (and other dishes). Probably the most reasonably priced sushi restaurant in the metro area. Everything is fresh, mostly authentic, delicious, and convenient (for us, we live two miles away). True, you do not get the atmosphere of the intimate (read that as tiny) neighborhood sushi bars in the back streets in Japan. But this place consistantly delivers on great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, oh, and did I mention really good (and free) green tea? My wife is rather picky about her green tea, and the tea here is from tea bags, but we both like the flavor and it is one of her favorite things about Sushi Do. Having developed a real liking for sushi, mostly because of my wife, this is our favorite (and usually the only) place we eat sushi. We enjoy the sushi at Noble Fish in Clawson as well (same owners as Sushi Do I believe) but it is so small and often crowded with long wait times. Sushi Do does get busy around lunch time but normally not too long of a wait.

  • Susan H.

I love the food here and the service is great. Plus it's a close to work. I usually get the hot noodles with my order of futomaki. And with the frequent buyer card, they reward you for eating here often.

Sushi Do is so close to us. We go there at least once a week. However, it is "hit or miss" . If you order carry out while you are there, it is good. The few times we ordered by phone, sushi was horrible. Just plain rice. Today we placed a phone carry out order, and again we picked up; all rice! The tuna was very fishy and had pink liquid leaking. I called to complain and the girl who answered the phone, just said "Thank you for calling". Well we will not go there again. I will drive out of my way a little to "Wow Sushi" and others where it is good no matter what.

Their sushi plate was a disaster, all the raw fish meats were not fresh. The salmon meat almost fell apart. The rice was also not cocked in a right way. I've tasted many sushi bars. This one is one of the worst.

Hubby surprised me by bringing home sushi for dinner. It looked AMAZING (my pics don't do it justice). When I guessed how much hubby paid for the veritable buffet he brought home, I was over by $20. That's a good deal in my book. Everything tasted amazingly fresh and looked beautiful. I can't remember the names of all the rolls he bought, but they were all huge, packed tightly with fish and veggies, and DELICIOUS! The only one I wouldn't get again is one that was literally 3-4" in diameter and was skewered so the pieces looked like they were big popsicles. It wasn't super tasty, and was too damned hard to eat as it fell apart the moment you took a bite. We also had seaweed salad (delish) and some type of shrimp dumpling (delish). I was flabbergasted at the taste, quality, and price...and snarfed down every last bit. I am already ready to go back.

Love this place for a sushi fix. Not a great place for a fancy sushi experience or date.. but if you are hungry for fresh sushi and don't want to spend a ton this is the place to go. You can either order and dine in or grab sushi to go. Always fresh, always tasty, clean dining area, and great staff. I usually get a TON of sushi for less than $15. They also have a cute little section of Japanese goodies and food.. I don't know what they are called but they basically have a Japanese version of dunkaroos. Amazing. Try it next time you JUST want sushi. You will be happy and your checkbook will be too.

Pretty good as far as sushi goes. Not 5 star caliber, but when two people can get full for $40 on good sushi, that's pretty good.

  • Jess T.

Meh - For takeout sushi this place is ok but the price is just not worth it! I would definitely recommend skipping the pre-made items and order off the menu. I wavered between two and three stars. The sushi is ok, and most of it seemed fresh. I just couldn't get over how expensive it is. It would have been much cheaper for us to tough it out and go out to eat at one of the other sushi bars. I wont be rushing back, but if hard pressed I may stop and pick up dinner.

Great food and great prices. I also like that they serve free green tea. This is a place for sushi, not for ambience. Come eat great sushi in a fast-food style restaurant.

If you really want sushi and have to have it, it's okay. If you want really good sushi, go somewhere else. This place was really a great place as Nobana. After the change they went down hill and stayed there. The prices are pretty standard, the sushi sits in the case a while. I still go there when I need a "fix".

I am going to this place once a week with 3 other friends. Food is great, Green Tea is free, service is fast (less than 10 minutes wait) and seating is not a problem (no wait like a competitor on 14 mile and Livernois). Once you order, you get a number and they call them in order of preparation. Effective and not too disturbing. Despite all the positive aspects of this place I am not crazy of parking situation at lunch time which could get sometimes crazy (half a star off) and prices versus quality are a little bit too high according to my experience (half a star off again). However all in one it's a great place to eat if you are working next by. Not the best but really good.

  • Jessica C.

This is my favorite sushi joint. I always do take-out, but all the food is delicious. If you're in a hurry, they even have pre-made sushi and other goodies ready to go. You really can't go wrong here!

  • Nancy R.

Came in today after the lunch rush and got a Michigan Roll and seaweed salad from the premade bar. Neither was particularly memorable. The seaweed salad was too sweet from something and the Michigan roll was bland despite it having spicy sauce on it. I wasn't impressed by anything. Many of the reviews state the udon is good, so I'll be back to try that. But for now, I'll pass on the sushi. There are better places in Troy for sushi.

Don't bother. Go to Noble Fish in Clawson or even Beni Hana. Very disappointing because it used to be ok. Not good, ok.

Great sushi at very reasonable rates. The place is not fancy and is more of a cafeteria than a restaurant. I usually get the roll sampler or the spicy roll sampler.

  • Gina S.

We drive pretty far just to get sushi here--all the way from 14 and Southfield area! I have not been impressed so far with many sushi restaurants around here, but Sushi Do is consistent and does not disappoint. I appreciate the brown rice for the sushi, although about 1 out of 3 times they don't have it available. :( Everything always seems fresh, which is my number ONE priority in a sushi place. I was wavering between 4 and 5 stars but 4 it is. Sometimes the service is painfully slow. And, please owners, if you are reading this, use less disposables! I agree with the other reviewer that I feel like I am killing the earth with all the trash I make while dining here! If you are close by, there is NO REASON not to make this your new favorite sushi spot!

One of my favorite places to go for sushi!!! There was a time frame when I was going there twice a week, I just couldn't stay away. The sushi is always fresh and fairly priced. Their staff is always super friendly. The most recent time I called and placed a takeout order the guy who took my order was really funny and made me laugh!! They're good people here!!

  • Tim T.

Some food is absolutely great. Very reasonably priced. Good portion. The favorite for me was the Curry dish. Cant remember the name. It was a dish with curry and beef. One complaint: very unsanitary trash cans that wont open properly. Always overflowed. Do not order their fried rice. it's garbage. It's just some kind of a failed stir fry really. It was also overly salty.

The kitchen food was good but the sushi was all frozen fish, i didn't think much of it. They had a few creative rolls but I go for the kitchen food sorry. They have great kitchen for the price I often get the Udon noodles

This is my go-to sushi place, they have a big variety at a nice price and it tastes great, the service is fairly fast and also they have a variety of already made and packed sushi by the entrance just ready to go if you are in a rush, plus they have free green tea! My favorite rolls are the Michigan ( it is huge, but you can order half), the spicy tuna, and the avocado. I also love that they have a spicy creamy sauce available. They also have sushi classes and a small but complete variety of japanese products for sale.

Good sushi!! They have things already made that you can pick up and go, which is constantly being refreshed with new, or items to order off a menu. You can either eat in or take out. They are a little pricey, but it is worth it in quality and quantity. My advice --- only do the Michigan roll if you are VERY hungry or plan to split with someone else!!

Sushi here is incredibly fresh and cheap! My fave roll is the Michigan roll. This roll is about 3 inches in diameter, filled with so much fresh tuna, avocado and more...! The best deal is when you order the combo, which could include an udon soup, a roll, and tempura's for less then $9!!!

I have struggled with this review for the last few weeks. Ambivalence can have a profound effect on one's creativity. Why am I ambivalent about a place that seemingly, if one trusts the reviews, serves fantastic sushi? Primarily because, yet again, I am of opposite opinion to the majority. For the record, I am not intentionally being obtuse in my regard for the popular restaurants in the area. I generally want to like a place that I am visiting (particularly the smaller mom-n-pop establishments). It just seems my definition of what is or isn't good seems to be out of phase with everyone else. My writer's block finally broke this morning. It finally dawned on me that I could view Sushi-Do one of 2 ways: 1. A Japanese sushi bar serving authentic sushi and sashimi, or 2. A Japanese themed McD's that serves sushi/sashimi-like entrees instead of the Royale with cheese or Le Big Mac. So as to remain in a positive frame of mind, I have chosen #2. Like the Golden Arches, one can get food on the fly at a relatively cheap price. And like Micky D's you go in fully understanding that you will receive a utilitarian example of food being served... let's face it, you can find a much better burger than McD's and you can definitely find better sushi/sashimi than at Sushi-Do. The 3 stars are because Sushi-Do offers cheap, fast sushi when you gotta have it, but can't break the bank. For taste, we're talking 2 stars. Certainly, the fish they use seems fresh (no fishy or ammonia smell) but was pre-sliced. At my last visit I got maguro, hamachi, unagi, saba, and uni. Strangely, the fish was almost devoid of flavor and the rice... seemed like an afterthought. Oh well... one does get what one pays for. As with the vast majority of sushi places in the D, including Noble Fish these days, the sushi/sashimi are overwhelmingly the de-vinegarized, presliced, 3 bite, sometime deep fried, over sauced, focus on the topping-not-the-rice type sushi. Taste-wise, a grade above the grocery bought sushi, but not by much. Still, it's cheap and convenient and sometimes that's what you need or all that you can afford. Sushi-Do does serve its purpose as fast food. I just wonder if they have an equivalent to Grimace.

Stopped off here on our way out of town for a quick bite to eat...same owners who run the famed Noble Fish which we like but Sushi-Do is the polar opposite of its sibling in many ways. For one, it's housed in a totally modern space and doesn't retain a bit of the authentic charm which NF possesses. However, like NF they do serve the complimentary Green Tea which is a nice touch. As for the food, it was pretty good save for a bit of hamachi that tasted not so fresh. The tuna, salmon, and MI rolls were all good, the latter being fairly ginormous. Sushi-Do, again? Sure.

I came for the sushi. I was not impressed. The tuna and salmon were low grade. The sloppy loose rolls showed insult to the craft of sushi making. Cute place, though not a sit down restaurant. More of a Panera style.

Clean place. Fast service. Quality of food is not par to the price but still a great go to if you are craving sushi and in a rush

I think I'm in the minority here, as I prefer to get the udon rather than the sushi. I confess, I'm not the biggest fan of nigiri or hand rolls. All the rolls I've tried are good, but I just have an incredible weakness for noodles in soup. I like to get the veggie tempura udon. The bowl of udon is fairly large and contains noodles, seaweed (wakame), two pieces of imitation crab, and some chopped raw green onion. On the side you will find the tempura vegetables, typically one asparagus spear, one piece of green pepper, one big broccoli floret, one big white onion ring, and one piece of Japanese pumpkin (kabocha). Recently, the kabocha has been either too old and mealy, or completely replaced with another asparagus spear, which is unfortunate because kabocha is such a tasty vegetable. Sometimes I will get the shrimp tempura udon (which has two little pieces of shrimp, one piece of imitation crab, and one asparagus spear) or the kakiage udon (a kind of tempura consisting of mixed vegetable strips shaped into a patty), but I think the veggie tempura is still the best-tasting. I had the sansai udon once and was not a fan. Translated as "mountain vegetables," these healthy veggies simply could not compete with the deep-fried goodness that is vegetable tempura. The boyfriend likes to get the tonkatsu curry, which is quite a large portion. It's pretty good, but like I said earlier, I gravitate towards noodles in soup. It comes with either salad or miso soup - the salad is a good-sized portion and contains not only iceberg lettuce but also tomato, red pepper, broccoli, carrot, etc., and the dressing is tasty. I used to go here a lot, back when it was Nobana but don't go as often now that it's Sushi Do. I can't quite my finger on it. I think part of the reason is they got rid of these amazing combos they used to have, such as a mini bowl of udon + a 6-piece roll for $10. Also, the seaweed salad comes in a tiny cup - other restaurants would be using these cups for barbecue sauce or ranch dressing. That being said, I still come here every so often, as it is my favorite Japanese place within a 15-minute radius of my house (Noble Fish is more delicious, but I don't like waiting in a cramped space and they don't have udon).

For takeout, this place is pretty decent. Value-wise it was the higher end of middle of the road. The spicy salmon roll was fresh-tasting but "just okay". The inari piece that I had was very delicious. The young lady working the register was kind and enthusiastic. However, they did not have any takeout menus to give out and the gentlemen behind the counter and other employees didn't acknowledge me being there (only 2 other tables full in the place, so it wasn't a rush). I'm not in a rush to go back.

This is the second time we have ventured out to Sushi-Do for a good sushi fix and I have to say, it was worth the drive again. The sushi combos are great and really hit the spot. They do offer non-sushi meals, but while my wife enjoyed her dinner--it did not match up to the actual sushi I was having. In short, the place is really fun looking--and I wish they would offer a delivery option (it is rumored to be coming soon!)--and they know how to do sushi right. I think we have found our place for good sushi for sure.

This place is a gem! Fresh sushi at CHEAP prices. They have everything you could ever want. The Alaskan Roll is made with smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado. The Michigan Roll (with spicy tuna) is good too. Did I mention cheap? Check this place out if you're in the area. They also sell imported Japanese goodies. You can dine in, or get your order to go if you're on the run.

Haven't been there in a while but use to go a lot when I was in HS and living in the area. Its very simple, no decorations, cafeteria style, very clean, etc. Service is very efficient, lots of take out options, and simple menu. Lots of asian random drinks and a few snacks too.

This place received a positive review in the local Patch.com so we gave it a try. We had spicy tuna roll, salmon roll, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, and octopus. Overall, the sushi was good, but the octopus was tough and fishy. The prices are comparable to other sushi places around here. Not my favorite sushi place, but I would go again.

As delightfully inexpensive as Sushi-Do is. I feel that the quality was higher when it was Nobana. The prices are still fairly inexpensive but when it comes to sushi, I am a complete stickler for quality, freshness and taste. I'm a huge fan of shrimp tempura roles. It's the only cooked sushi I enjoy. Americanized, I know but shh! It's tasty! They make them well. I also like their spicy tuna. I did not enjoy the spicy salmon though. For some reason the salmon did not taste as fresh, nor did the spicy california. I could be wrong though. It seems sometimes the same rolls can be hit or miss. A positive thing about this place is that they have cooked meals, not just sushi which is rare for a sushi-focused joint. On a more positive note, I love the ambiance. The tables secluded in the back are cute. They have a considerably smaller selection of edible goodies than Nobana did as well but I can get my mayo and candy. Although they do not carry the Japanese Black Tea in a can i enjoy. The service is also incredibly fast, which is a plus if you're hungry. I feel like I am going to echo many comments said before but Final Verdict: Inexpensive, fast, mediocre but on the more positive side. Think B+.

After trying almost every sushi restaurant (priced way high and way low), this is the place we choose to eat. The quality of sushi is simply the best I have found in the area. The atmosphere is clean and friendly, though not a date restaurant by any means, more of a place to go with friends who really dig good sushi. Their cooked meals are also excellent, like the salmon with teriyaki, yummm. Can't complain about a place that offers free green tea with the meal either. The only drawback is that they use one-time plastic bowls, not eco-friendly at all. I would much prefer plastic reusable bowls for my miso soup.

I wouldn't consider myself a sushi connoisseur by any means but in my opinion Nobana has some of the tastiest sushi around. The rolls are made fresh and from past experience the teriyaki, beef or chicken, seems to be grilled fresh as well. The prices seem to have increased since the last time i visited this fine establishment. Good food, reasonable pricing, and a clean environment. I highly recommend stopping by Nobana for some good sushi!

This used to be my favorite place for sushi. Now that 2012 has rolled in, and Nobana has rolled out, it is now on my out list! They shrunk the portion of fish in each roll and increased the rice to the point you have to take off the outer third of rice to make it balance. I also tried their uden soup for the first time. VERY salty! Not a good choice. Bring back the all you can eat Saturdays and quality !!!

This place is dirty and disgusting. I ordered shrimp fried rice tonight and I was on the toilet all evening from their food. I called and told them, they said no one else complained about their rice today. Well that helps. Disgusting, I will never eat there again. Food poisoning guaranteed.

Decent sushi if you're looking for something to grab and go. I wouldn't travel out of my way for anything they serve, and avoid going right at noon Monday to Friday. The parking lot is ridiculously small for the amount of business done in this little strip mall. Not Sushi Do's fault.

This place is one of the closer sushi places near my house. It's pretty good. There are both takeout boxes and fresh ordered sushi. Both are pretty good. They provide free tea and water, which is nice. Overall, the sushi is pretty good and fresh.

This place is decent - I like the self-serve format and you don't have to tip. The sushi is good, udons excellent. Free green tea which is nice. Nothing that knocks your socks off but good enough, and very reasonably priced sushi. Something that not very many people order is fried edamame. It's edamame rolled in tofu skin and deep fried - quite a brilliant idea. I love it with my udons. The only thing I don't like is how much I waste when I eat here. Disposable chopsticks, cups, plates, forks, knives, spoons, soy sauce saucer... eeeeesh. I'm certainly not the earth's best friend when I eat here.

I gave it 3 stars and not any lower because I have had better experiences there. However last time I went which was about a year ago, I got really sick from their spicy seafood scallop dish which I think was a special since it's not there all the time. It was really delicious but when I got home I got sick and broke out into hives which has never happened to me before. I usually like this place a lot and enjoy their tonkatsu curry rice or their sushi but haven't visited ever since. I much prefer Ajishin or Sushi-Do inside One World Market in Novi.

Love this place. Same owners as Noble fish and same high quality of fresh fish but a very different experience due to the location. The atmosphere is sterile and feels like any strip mall eatery so no points there (total opposite of quirky character Nobile Fish. But service is very efficient and the whole store is very clean. Offers some variety of packaged japanese food (hiChew, pocky, etc) but no where near the selection that Noble Fish has. Overall great sushi at a great price.

Excellent sushi skills, perfect consistancy and texture. If you don't feel like sushi they offer Udons which are very good. I think they swap out some dishes because my beloved chicken katsu curry is no longer on the menu. It's been replaced by a chicken and beef bowl. It is still delicious though. This is the place I go for a quick sushi lunch. Sushi Items in the coolers are the best for carrying out.

The sushi here isn't that great. They changed the name from Nobana a little bit back, but its still owned by Noble Fish. I've had better sushi around the Troy area and its pretty pricey. The seaweed salad is a little salty compared to others that I've had, and I paid a good amount for a side dish, which was literally that, a little tiny dish with a dollop of seaweed salad. Their udon is also mediocre, a friend had the spicy tuna roll and it was ok. Overall, if you want good sushi, I'd try somewhere else, but for somewhere convenient for sushi, its ok.

This is one of the few options to eat that is close to the Embassy Suites, where I'm often staying. Went here for the first time the other night, and would go more often if it was open a little later. Lots of good choices, fish tasted fresh, good prices and fast service. Loved it!

I'm from L.A. and am spoiled with great sushi places. I stopped by this place while on business because of its reviews. Fish was good and fresh. The variety of rolls is not as big and eclectic as I'm used to, but they covered the basic specialty rolls well. Would definitely eat here again. NOTE: They don't serve beer, so don't expect large beers and sake with your dinner like a lot of sushi diners like.

Best udon I've ever had! This is the main reason I go here. Their sushi is good too, but that udon is very delicious. The udon is cheap too. If you're looking to fill up but not spend a lot of cash, just put up 5.25 for this nice dish (for the plain). It's good for dieting too. Have it with some complimentary green tea too and feel the calories burn right off. Not to mention a lot of Japanese people eat there, so you know it has to be good. Some may argue "Well, maybe it's just that it's the closest place that serves Japanese food". Please! If there was a restaurant that served crappy food that was supposed to represent your ethnicity, you would denounce that place in a heartbeat. They also serve a lot of other things like candy, soda, etc. that are made in Japan. I recommend the mini udon and mini bowl set for $10.95. You get udon with your choice either eel, spicy tuna, or an assortment of seafoods. Sore ha totemo oishi da (look it up). Check this place out. You'll love it.

I consider myself to be well versed in the sushi culture and Nobana came highly recommended by a lot of people when I moved to MI. This place was one of the worst I've been to in town. The uni I ordered was nowhere near being fresh. I rarely spit my food out and I had to with this one. The rolls are loaded with too much rice and have no flavor. Nobana has the quality you expect from a buffet which is not a good thing.

This place has some of the best sushi in the metro Detroit. I believe this place is still owned by the same people that own Noble Fish down in Royal Oak / Clawson area. You walk in and you order from the counter. They do not have a large variety of rolls but everything they do have is great. I typically order a few maki rolls and just sit down and eat. When you order and pay at the counter, they give you a pager and you just wait for your food. The environment might not be the best but the food and prices are good enough.

This place has sentimental value for me b/c my friends and I often came here after classes in senior year of high school for a roll and a drink. Having not stopped in in years and knowing that ownership had changed, I was naturally wary when I revisited a while ago. The place looks a lot snazzier, less business-lunch, more late-night-small-gathering. The colorful menus certainly weren't there, nor was the plasma screen. The set combos are a great deal, and my half spicy shrimp roll was definitely more than I had bargained for. FYI, seaweed salad a bit on the skimpy side in the combos though so if you're looking for more than a couple mouthfuls, get the side salad to go.

This is quick and affordable sushi that actually tastes better than a lot of the higher end sushi places. I'm no sushi expert (I usually get tuna rolls and stuff similar to that), but Nobana always seems to be fresh and is always tasty. I have yet to try any of the kitchen food, but it seems to be quite popular as well.

I love this place, but I recently had a bad experience, which will not stop me from going. I ordered the combo that had a mini udon along with a selection of roll, which I ordered regular spicy tuna roll but I received inside out regular tuna roll. Not going to complain much because this place is very reasonable for their food. I love love their beef bowl, it's a teriyaki beef onto of rice in a bowl, delicious! They are usually very busy around lunch due to the local business.

Formerly Noble Fish, and I am not sure if they are still affliated; however, this place has the best sushi around. I eat here at least twice a week and I have always had a great meal. The sushi is inexpensive and fresh. Most of all the sushi rolls are the perfect size to eat and still look like a lady. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and you can buy many Japanese grocery items there in case you want to attempt a Nobu recipe! I highly recommend Nobana. It is not a fancy place but great for a casual dinner or take out.
