Food is good for the most part. Anything with the word potato in it is going to be dry though. Service at the restuarant is absolutely HORRID.

My boyfriend and I won a 'chefs table' reservation at a charity silent auction about a year ago. We had placed it aside and it expired. When we called Crumpets, they were more than willing to issue us a new certificate which was awesome - mailed it to our house and everything. The 'chefs table' wasn't like other chef's tables I've been to before, but we got so much great food - it a lot of fun for a date night. The chef created an appetizer which was a mix of shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon and bruschetta. All fantastic. We both got an option of a soup or salad (a full huge salad!), any entree off the menu, dessert, coffee, tea, pop, iced tea - it was all included. We split a bottle of wine, which was extra, and clearly was explained that it wasn't included (a-ok - we liked our wine!). I had a Caeser salad and the scallops/salmon combo, while my boyfriend had the french onion and Delmonico steak. The steak was a little overcooked - our waiter was more than willing to replace it. We didn't end up getting it replaced (hate wasting food and it's not like it was bad) but we appreciated how he handled it - he really was concerned that there was something not 100% about our experience. Cheesecake was amazing and definitely homemade. If you ever see one of their chef's tables or have an opportunity - grab it! Great food, and so much of it - we both have lunch for tomorrow too. Great service from both our server and support staff. Will definitely be back!

Meh... It's a hotel restaurant. Over priced but decent food and good lunch service. Classy looking place but overall it isn't anything special. It's really just another hotel lobby restaurant

Staying at the sommerset inn for a work event, so I had dinner at crumpets tonight. The French onion soup was really good, but I think it's difficult to mess that up. The cup was the perfect size for an appetizer. I ordered off the bar & grill menu instead of the regular dinner menu. I got the steak burger with cheddar cheese and bacon and OMG was it amazing. It was juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries were crispy, hot and wonderful as well. There weren't very many people in the restaurant so my server was very attentive and polite. He even gave me a slight discount because I'm staying at the hotel. I will definitely be back there for dinner the rest of the week!

They need to start reading their reviews......Food was the best and that experience was just okay at best. Service was let's just say interesting. Asked for water, brought water and filled my glass ONLY. Finally had to get up a grab a pitcher myself for water.

Worth a visit sometime.: I am leery of hotel restaurants as they often have mediocre food at penthouse prices. Crumpets defies this as its menu is simple, diverse and at reasonable prices. You can get a club sandwich to a Filet Mignon. We both opted for the Somerset Shrimp Fry dinner. The nine jumbo shrimp were dusted with bread crumb, instead of a batter, and were fried just right offering little grease to the fingers. The chips were just french fries but were, in my book, cooked to perfection (which is just past golden going on brown with a crunch.) This was $14.95. The only other table of diners all ordered the broiled seafood combo for $17.95 which was served with vegetable and jasmine rice. It looked quite good as well. Disappointingly, our dinner entrees did not come with a cold side ie. slaw or salad. We had to order a dinner salad ala carte and split it for $4.50. Dressings were limited and the raspberry vinaigrette, although sweet and tangy, was a bright pink (classic it's not homemade appearance.) Dessert was not offered but available. No biggie, the meal overall was quite good. The service was top notch from the friendly hostess, to the up-beat and polite waitress, and the bus boy who was Johnny-on-the-Spot with everything from water refills, to the bread basket, to plate removal. My only criticism here was with the initial phone call to the restaurant. The hotel's front desk transferred me to the hostess ' stand six times before someone answered. Smooth sailing from there though. We chose Crumpets because they had a sweet Entertainment Card discount: A 1-for-1 entree up to $18 off the bill (a steal considering the Entertainment Book only cost $25--BUY ONE!.) The place was empty save a party of six besides us and this was at dinner time of 6:15 PM. I don't always no how to interpret that but the lack of other patrons granted us superior service. Crumpets is located in the Somerset Inn directly across the street from the Somerset Mall. There is no visible sign from Big Beaver Rd., rather just a sign for the Somerset Inn. Use the side entrance instead of the entrance facing Big Beaver. The decor is very neat and clean with flair circa 1980's. The bathrooms were impeccably clean. I will gladly visit this restaurant again.

Stayed at the Somerset Inn and tried the in house restaurant Crumpets. Had to have breakfast there 5 of the 6 days and I don't think they got my simple order right more than twice. If the coffee isn't instant I'd be surprised. thank heavens the coffee in my room was much better. We ate dinner here on the first night but left hungry so traipsed across the street each night to the elegant mall and did very well with the happy hour menus at the various chains. The hotel was very well priced, nice and the staff was terrific...but that's for another review.
