Voted #1 burger place in Traverse City along with Bubba's. Yup, I agree with that statement. The atmosphere is very vibrant, not in color but in feel and in life. They were very busy but handled it well. There's not a ton of room inside, 10-12 tables, but there's plenty outside. I ordered a Slabtown Patty Burger along with fries and a Northwood Lemonade. The slabtown patty is a stuffed burger that I added BBQ sauce to. It was ohh so very good. I could have eaten 2 except for the fact that 1 filled me up. The fries were truly amazing. A little bit of some spices. A nice crunch, but not supper crunchy. The Lemonade was awesome too. My only negative was the ketchup you can get is really strange and not that good. Also their shakes are made with soft serve. Tsk tsk proper shakes must be made with hard ice cream. Traverse City is the home to Moomers after all. My rating is a soft 5 stars due to that.

I would like to invite Mr. Jimmy Buffet here to learn exactly what a cheese burger in paradise entails. This place is a gem!! Tucked into a residential neighborhood with plenty of street parking and out door seating. They have hand cut fries!! And the burger is one of the best I have ever had. I tried a bohemian burger - grilled onions, bacon, mushrooms, jalapeños and chedder....two patties. I ate my fries first as I feel they are not as good cold. By the time I got to my burger it was still very hot!! The jalapeños had me sweating. The bacon was thick and meaty. I am completely stuffed and my double burger and fries cane to 10 bucks. I will return!! They have stuffed burgers too!!

Great black bean burger and delicious fries, cool building, and neat atmosphere. Service was quick and polite, food was delicious. Built into an old house just outside downtown. I look forward to going back and trying the onion rings!

This little place had a line out the door when we arrived, and I can see why! The staff was very quick and friendly despite the chaotic nature of the restaurant, the food was great, and they have really tasty locally made sodas. I ordered the Bohemian burger with fries and a drink and my friend got the Gluten Free Mushroom Burger. The Bohemian had cheese, bacon, mushrooms, onions, jalapenos, and BBQ sauce with a crispy on the outside juicy on the inside burger pattie. I've not had a burger this good in a while! My friend said hers was also amazing and raved about it for days after. She didn't think it could possibly be a GF bun because it tasted so good! The fries were also really good and very ample in portion. The prices are also extremely reasonable. $4-6 for a burger? Sold. I'm so glad we listened to yelp!

Went with some friends who frequent the place. Not terrible, just not the best burger I've ever had. I was "whelmed."

If I'm getting a burger in TC I am either going to A. Slabtown or B. Bubbas. The burgers are inexpensive, they're delicious, and they're quick. Their fries are excellent - and they serve a local soda, which is always good. I've regretted a lot of things in life, but getting a burger from Slabtown is not one.

I see why this is such a hot place for a quick burger. This place was perfect. We had just gotten into TC for a long weekend, and all we wanted was a quick bite before hitting downtown. We're both burger people, so this place was just a natural choice. Burger menu is both interesting but not overwhelming. Fun ingredients that spice up a somewhat "normal burger." My Bohemian was a basic bacon cheeseburger with the added kick of jalapeños and extra flavor of BBQ sauce. Excellent. Meat was flavorful too, so the toppings weren't hiding poor quality meat. Secondly, the malts are as good as everyone says. Thick, chocolatey, and just yum. Thirdly, side dishes. The sweet potatoes are ON POINT. Thicker cut and delicious. The tater tots were a bit of a disappointment, though. Felt like they were just frozen and reheated. But everything else was so good, I can't dock a star just for that. Finally, atmosphere. Cool. Very TC decor in a reno'd home. Quaint, good seating. Comfortable space.

Outstanding burgers, good value, great service, great atmosphere! Go with fries and not the onion rings.

  • Susan M.

Awesome stop off the beaten path. My favs were the fries and milk shake. Both done right. My burger (stuffed blue cheese) had way too much blue cheese, it was just over whelming. My hubby had the pepper stuffed burger and it was amazing. He almost always orders better than me... Really cool ambiance and history and great customer service! I'd highly recommend veering off the main stream for this place!

Food: THE BEST BURGER I'VE EVER HAD. Seriously. This place made the best burger and has the most interesting combinations for a burger. I had the Traverse City Cherry Double Cheeseburger and it was the perfect combination of ingredients. There are a bunch of other burgers combinations on the menu, so there is an option for every burger lover! Atmosphere: The restaurant atmosphere is really similar to a hipster coffee shop. Probably because it is a really unique burger joint in an odd location. It's a really popular destination with the locals and everyone is nice. Service: the service was quick and efficient. The cashier/waitress was really nice. Usually burger joints take some time to make the burgers, especially if the toppings are unique. But they made mine within 5 minutes. YOU MUST VISIT THIS PLACE!!

  • Irwin F.

Awesome service and a great bacon burger! They use real meat and fresh cut fries. Kid friendly as well. Great decor in an older style "house". 2 of us ate for under $15. Def go here - you will enjoy it!

My best dining experience in Michigan. No contest. The burgers are delicious. The menu is vast and has all the right combinations. Even my wife lauded the veggieburger. The staff was well trained, friendly, and had a major TCB vibe. Their "PATTY" and "FRY" callouts made me feel like my food was in good hands. Only local soda options usually raises a red flag for me. But their local "cola" wasn't too far off the Coca mark. According to my wife their specialty draft root beer was simply amazing. The chcolate chip cookies we had for dessert were scrumptuous. In fact, the only non amazing component were there fries. Which were still pretty good. But I'm not sure I've had better in Michigan anyway. Really liked that paper towels and copious varirties of condiments that were available at every table as well. This joint is a must go for anyone passing through or living in Northern Michgan.

This burger joint was an exciting new find for is in Traverse City. We tried this place in a group of 8. The service was extremely helpful and accommodating. Everybody was extremely satisfied with the burgers. The shakes were excellent. The Fries were good. If you are looking for a reasonable burger joint with quality burgers, I recommend you try Slabtown.

This is my favorite burger in TC. I love the Slabtown Special and the Patty Melt. SO GOOD and their fries are among the best I have ever had. I love that they put malt vinegar on the table for the fries and they have a really cool selection of different kind of fountain sodas. Whenever I am in Slabtown and hungry, I have to stop in here. I kind of want to just run down the menu and order all of their burgers but for right now, I'm obsessed with these tow.

Wow. Great place to eat. So glad we found this place. The burgers were awesome and we loved the locally made soda. Tator tots were a hit. Loved how they are located in an old house. So much charm and character!

  • Carrie G.

What? Seriously? We read on Yelp how awesome this place was while looking for places to eat this weekend... This place is the S...! It's a cute little old house that looks like a rundown old place, but inside it's cute- with about 6 tables. The menu is written on a giant chalkboard. We decided to order the Pungis pepper burger- which is a stuffed burger with jalapeño peppers and other goodies. My hubs ate that and he was in heaven. I ordered the Sweet Lincoln, which is a perfectly cooked burger with Swiss, caramelized onions and a honey mustard sauce. I don't usually eat a lot, but I ate the whole thing!!!! I couldn't help myself! It was that good! I also ordered the sweet potato fries- also good- especially the sauce they gave with it. The drinks were from locals called Northwoods. Delicious! Added bonus... They played Michael Buble songs the whole time. :) This place is a must when visiting TC!

    (5)
  • Jessica W.

I love this kind of place! Local, sweet, great decor, excellent food at the right price, served fast. Creative comfort food menu, burgers, shakes, salads, etc. I can't wait to get back there to try one of their shakes!

  • Jason Z.

Delicious and I love the atmosphere. The people who work there are super awesome. I got the Chili Cheese Burger. It was the first thing I saw when I looked up at the menu so I figured I'd get it. (Foolproof plan for a good meal, right?). When I opened the paper around the burger, I saw it was kinda messy. This is good news in my mind. If there's a clean and tidy "chili cheese"-anything, you're doing it wrong. Anyway, I took a bite, and it was the best burger I've randomly chosen off a menu in my life.

  • Beth S.

Love this place! It's quick and delicious, my favorite is the blue cheese burger :) yum!

    (5)
  • Stephanie S.

Between TC to Grand Rapids, this is by far the best burgers around. Try the stuffed burgers, they are not to be missed.

    (5)
  • Gina D.

Delicious! The stuffed burgers are a must try!

    (5)
  • Princess P.

Delicious burgers! This is walking distance from our house which is trouble but so nice. I like to call in orders ahead of time since it can be very busy but I have never waited too long. My favorite burger is the Bohemian- it's the bomb. Their hand cut fries are always a treat too. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a good burger. The history of traverse city on the walls is quite entertaining too.

    (5)
  • Kamran J.

The burgers here are great, as are the fries. The quality is excellent, the service is great, the pricing is very reasonable and the location is convenient. High value proposition, to be sure - don't miss this place!

    (5)
  • Katrina S.

The burgers are great! The fries are good but nothing special. Good portion sizes and very reasonably priced. Even though it was packed we got a table fairly quick. My favorite was the root beer, so good.

    (4)
  • Paul Z.

Good stuff. Burgers tasty and greasy. Tots were crisp. No beer, but not necessary. Maybe a buffalo burger would be a good add.

    (4)
  • Jacob A.

Had the Big Blue Burger on my visit, and it was amazing! The Bleu cheese wasn't overpowering, and the patty was sublime. The fries were cooked to perfection, and the atmosphere was friendly and homey. Highly Recommended :)

    (5)
  • Paige V.

What a cute friggen place! The staff was so friendly, and the food very good for fast food. Love that they only do what looks like local sodas from the fountain. Outdoor seating is too cute.

    (4)
  • Brittany D.

Awesome setting (in a house) indoor and outdoor seating. Cool chalkboard menu. Burgers are delicious. Pretzel bun is a must! Really cool flavors of soda to drink. Milkshakes are good. Friendly staff.

  • Denise S.

Great burgers! This place has such a variety of burgers to choose from and everything is awesome.

    (5)
  • Jason D.

Fantastic! The burgers, fries and local pops are top notch. So glad we found this place... so worth the visit. I had the buffalo brger, sweet potatoe fries and local rootbeet. Delicious.

    (5)
  • Kim V.

Great spot for lunch! We enjoyed the options for burgers, the fast, friendly service and unique setting. The burgers were great. The onion rings and fries were yummy...there were so many we couldn't eat them all.

    (5)
  • Noelle V.

Love their hand cut fries. Burgers are good, just wish they could be cooked to order. Atmosphere in restaurant is very warm, lots of historical photos of Traverse City, very interesting to look at!

    (4)
  • D B.

I've been hearing about this place and their burgers, but I was less then impressed. I spent $25 for two burgers, fries and hot dog and it was all pretty forgettable. The burgers are thin patties and just don't compete with other local burger spots. My fries were soggy and cold. The staff was fast and friendly and the building is cool ( a converted home). They were very busy, so they must be doing something right, but I probably won't return :(

    (2)
  • Amanda J.

Spent a day at the sleeping bear dunes and exhausted ourselves. Thus place was a heaven sent. The burgers were incredible we got the slabtown special and comboed it. The fries were a bit over done, but the burger, oh my, made up for it. They were quick to serve and very kind and informative when ordering. The place itself has a great atmosphere and nice indoor and outdoor seating. If I'm ever in town again, I will be back.

    (4)
  • Bentley W.

Ate here s few weeks ago and gad one of the best burgers I've ever had. The atmosphere is eclectic, the staff friendly, and the burgers and fries are top-notch. I like that they don't sacrifice quality in favor of quantity like so many other restaurants do--if you want a really really good ¼ burger with tons if options, this is the place.

    (5)
  • North Girl M.

Soooo good. Don't expect to sit down because there's only a few tables. But I promise you won't care when you bite into an Abe Lincoln. Have the milkshake or the root beer and just tack on a few extra miles on yer run tomorrow.

    (4)
  • Kathryn D.

Super casual, delicious and inexpensive. The burgers are great (even the veggie-burger!) and the fries are spectacular. I've even had their soup, and it was great as well! It's a bit off the beaten path from the hustle and bustle of downtown but well worth the short walk. Heads-up, there is not a lot of seating inside, so you may just want to plan on getting take-out, especially in the busy summer months!

  • Donna C.

The bestest yunmiest burgers ever!!! 5 stars mega!! We typed in search burger restaurants and Slabtown came up first!! We will definitely be their best customers!! And definitely share this place with our family and friends. :-)

  • Whitney K.

There's too many "gourmet" burgers these days and most of the time, I find that specialty burgers have too much bun. I was super stoked to try this place because I kind of appreciated the no-frills bun with an awesome patty. I ordered the Pungi's Pepper Patty and it was pretty delicious. I got some nice heat from the jalapenos and pepperjack cheese, but the cream cheese helped cool it down. It was definitely flavorful. I did ask if they make their onion rings there, but they said they only have homemade fries. I do love a good onion ring, but I don't think I will be getting it from here.

    (4)
  • Ze W.

This place is delicious for a burger shack! Cute outdoor patio and very helpful staff. I loved my burger/tots/chocolate milkshake! (Giant selection of Northwoods sodas if you like sodas.)

    (4)
  • Crystal K.

Very tasty burgers!!! We stopped here for a quick dinner one night. This place has a lot of charm. The soda is local and very tasty. The burgers were to die for, I ordered the rodeo burger and it was the right combination of meaty with some tang from the BBQ sauce. The chili fries were just ok in my opinion, the fries being very basic. The chicken tenders my son ordered were the basic ones from a frozen bag but that was ok since it's a burger joint after all. All and all I would definitely visit again!!!

    (4)
  • Dan P.

The burgers! Oh the burgers!! And have the homemade rootbeer its totally worth the paying for the refill.

    (4)
  • Jeff P.

So many choices and all are worth it! This burger joint is for real and the quality of food and the atmosphere is awesome! We came to the restaurant using Yelp and we were happy we did. I highly suggest eating here and giving it a shot.

    (5)
  • Phillip M.

I've been here about four or five times now, and each time they've impressed. As of now. The rodeo burger is my favorite, the onion rings, and BBQ sauce... It's just a well balanced and delicious burger. I feel they could use a bit higher quality of buns, (the buns are far from bad quality, they could just be a bit better, maybe getting a local baker to supply them if that's financially feasible) and personally I prefer crispier fries. (They have never been soggy, and I've always eaten them, I just feel they could be brought up an extra notch.) But those minor details do nothing to lessen the product or experience for me, this is just small knit picking on my part. The service is excellent, the burgers superb. Overall I strongly recommend them (and do so regularly, with everyone I've sent there loving it as much as I do) to anyone looking for a quick, delicious burger.

  • Rich B.

A unique dining environment with great tasting food. Kids and adult options. The root beer is a must try! They have gluten free buns too. Staff was patient and friendly. Wish this restaurant was in our hometown. The kids and I are definitely eating here the next time we are in TC.

  • Kristie G.

Nice place to go pretty busy atlunch hour not a lot of seating inside at the soup it was good watch David eat his hamburger it looked good and smells were great lot were sitting outside but for a cold day probably not the place to go if you want to sit inside but probably great for takeout very friendly staff

    (5)
  • Jessica D.

These burgers here are to die for! I always get the TC cherry burger which has patties, blue cheese, dried cherries, and sautéed onions. They have all local pops, and the fries are fresh cut, so you get the real potato flavor. I would highly recommend this walk-up and sit down restaurant to anyone looking for a quick but delicious bite of food.

  • Ann S.

Pungi burger and chili cheese fries...nuff said. But I think Yelp requires me to write more. We came here twice and I was considering 3x but we didn't. Sigh. Won't make that mistake next time, it's worth the inevitable "weren't you just here yesterday?"

    (5)
  • Amber L.

I passed by this place so many times and never stopped! I'm glad my cousin brought me. Best burger EVER and fresh cut fries! I wish I still lived in Michigan so I could go there more often!

    (5)
  • Zena K.

Best burgers I've had in the area. I mean, just really, really good. The malted shakes are pretty incredible as well. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere if you're eating in, prompt service if you're carrying out.

    (5)
  • Alysha B.

Really great idea and amazing burgers. Well worth the price! The French fries were great, i wish i could have tried the onion rings but the soda selection was awesome and local. The service was great and i enjoyed that it came in a paper bag. Just a good, unique food place all around!

  • Jennifer G.

I've been to traverse city countless times in my life and I am so happy to have eaten here today (and furious this is the first time). Burgers are great, fries and onion rings are delicious! The employees were very friendly and helpful. We will return each time we visit.

    (5)
  • Jessica L.

There are so many delicious choices. I got the rodeo burger. The barbecue was so good, a perfect storm of sweet and tangy. The fresh cut fries were great. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the ability to eat out on the deck or patio. Our son, who is quite picky, also enjoyed the food. WIN. Must visit again.

Great Burgers. Super-friendly staff!! Chili cheese fries were awesome. Service was quick

  • Chad S.

Jackpot! That's what you'll feel like you hit eating at this burger joint. Excellent burger place, with all the creative topics you can imagine. Awesome hand cut fries as well. Outdoor seating is nice. Don't let the line fool you, they move quick, there is a reason it is busy, it tastes so good! If you are hungry for a burger in Traverse City, no reason to go anywhere else.

    (5)
  • Mike F.

Cool place. Burgers were pretty good. Fries were greasy county fair fresh cut type. Onion rings might have been a better option. Great prices and unique soda selection.

  • Michelle J.

We are from Michigan and live in California so our annual trek to Traverse City needs to be packed with great memories. We look forward to the beaches and the great restaurants. This burger joint was a hit with the whole family. We tend to be food snobs - and each had our own burger choice. From the vege burger to the stuffed blue cheese burger - not one complaint. Great local atmosphere, really great prices! In fact, unbelievable prices. $5 bucks for a hamburger; we'd pay $12 in L.A.! (or at the now overrated Art's in Glen Arbor). Come early, if you are looking for a good hamburger you won't be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Robert B.

We went here for the first time Oct. 21st and we loved it! We tried the slabby patty, fungi's pepper patty and the sweet lincoln, they were all delicious. Our favorite was the slabby patty, old school burger with american cheese, but you couldn't go wrong any of them. We had dinner that night and lunch there the next day before we left for home because it was so good. If you like a good burger, this is the place to go!!!

    (5)
  • Bruno S.

Great burgers, great fries, great shakes...what more can you ask for? We ordered two Olive Burgers based on the suggestion of staff. We were not disappointed. Great flavor,,with minimal grease. The fries are hand cut and cooked to perfection. The chocolate shake....really nicely finished off this inexpensive, but very enjoyable, meal.

This place is a three minute drive from my house and I come here often. I especially love their bean burgers. All their food is made to order and served in a paper bag, it is amazing.

  • Kevin M.

A delicious burger shack with a variety of unique offerings, Slabtown Cafe & Burgers is a must for visitors spending time in Traverse City. With mouthwatering burgers and hand cut fries, there's something for everyone on their menu.

    (4)
  • Liz T.

How much better can it be?? Burgers and fries in a bag - hot, fresh, delicious, fast and friendly. It doesn't matter what burger you want, I don't think it matters, they were all good. Even the black bean burger is good enough to make me have one. If you are within an hour of Traverse City, you should check it out. You won't be disappointed.

  • Wade S.

These guys (and gals) have great burgers! I love the sweet potato fries and root beer! Whenever we make the trip to TC we consider this place for lunch.

  • Brown T.

What a fun place. Hamburgers tasted great! Somewhat small portions, but severs was great! My whole family enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly, great food and love the brown bags! I recommend this place.

    (4)
  • Erich F.

I really dug this place. You don't have to deal with the typical fancy-ass TC crowd, because it's pushed a little bit west of the downtown proper area. They had a nice wait staff and most importantly-tasty eats.

    (5)
  • Josh W.

This is a fantastic little burger joint!!! My family and I enjoyed the atmosphere, burgers and root beer!!! The pepper burger is awesome and the sweet Lincoln was to die for. Very pleasant staff!! We will definitely be back if we come through this way again.

  • Megan S.

My family recently visited Northern MI, and ate at Slabtown. The food was excellent. I had the Blue Burger, and it was fabulous. It was made to order (as is everything). The prices were reasonable, the staff was helpful, and the cafe had a welcoming atmosphere. I loved that the beverage choices were locally made. We'll definitely be back next time!

    (4)
  • Patricia W.

Best Burgers and Malts in TC! The Employees are completely Awesome. We love this place.

  • Jake W.

One of the best burger joints I've ever been at. Fresh ingredients at a reasonable price!

    (5)
  • Jennifer T.

Burgers were really good (got the pungis and slab town). Fries and soups were good. Busy place that's small but nice inside. Surprisingly no deep fried smell for all the cooking in a small place. The plastic forks and styrofoam bowls aren't my fave but other than that it was a good experience.

    (4)
  • E. Bremer M.

I loved everything about this place except the food. It wasn't awful; it just wasn't 'great'. I started with the tomato basil soup which was basically like eating pasta sauce (so many tomato basil soups are like that). Then I had the green olive and Swiss cheese burger; the toppings were alright, but the burger itself was lacking in flavor. I paid $1 extra for a gluten-free bun which was dry and bland (there are actually good tasting gluten free breads out there; just hard to find), And lastly, the sweet potato fries were o.k. I am willing to try this place again - and order something different - because there were so many other things I liked about this place: location, decor, staff, menu selection....and a soda fountain with locally made sodas, NOT the usual Coke or Pepsi crap.

  • Dan M.

I've been here countless times, not sure how I've not written a review up until now. We stopped in our drive from Glen Arbor to Mackinaw City just for a burger. Simple cheeseburger with ketchup and mustard was enough to give me my quick Slabtown fix. In the past, I've had the cheese-stuffed burgers which are incredible. The fries are great, and the Northwoods soda and root beer are insanely delicious and refreshing. Service is always prompt and delivered with a smile. I've never met anyone who appeared unhappy to be working here. You gotta be nuts to not come here if you're in town. A definite Traverse City staple.

  • Mad V.

Wow! Excellent food, shakes, atmosphere and service with a smile! The building was a surprise being an old cute white cottage. I was here with my daughters who both loved their chicken strips and chicken club sandwich. The employee suggested the olive burger for me which I would order again for sure. Delish! Fries were a tad overcooked but still tasty. Strawberry shake was also very good with a great pricetags for all!

    (5)
  • John M.

Outstanding burgers! Very friendly staff too. Even the guys flipping burgers looked like they were having fun. I love a good olive burger and they definitely make a great one. I liked it so much I went back and tried the Sweet Lincoln that everyone else was yelping about. It's not a burger I would normally order but it was also very tasty. I'm going to always try to work this place into my rotation every trip to TC!

  • Julie C.

Incredible food and cozy atmosphere! We came here after a hike on the Vasa trail and it was just what we needed! Nothing like putting on the calories you just burned immediately after exercise :) I had the T.C. Cherry burger with fries and a fresh root beer! It was a burger topped with local cherries, blue cheese, grilled onions and mayo. It was so perfectly made that I wouldn't even let my husband try a bite..(I know I'm a terrible person). He had the pepper patty with onion rings. I can't speak for exactly how his tasted but I didn't see him take a breath between bites! We would definitely come back and will be recommending Slabtown burgers to our friends and family. Bonus: We both ate to our heart's delight for under $20.

  • T M.

I've had a 85% success rate at Slabtown as far as burger enjoyability, so they get 4 stars. I was a big fan from the start; a simple cheeseburger that tasted good, hand-cut fries and a local Northwoods soda for $7. Of course you can easily eat 2 burgers (I'm a slender gal at that), so that makes it about $10 bucks. Still not bad! I'm not sure when a recent reviewer got a $5 bag lunch, but that does not exist any longer.... Hand-cut fries are great, but as is often the case with such a house-made treat, not very crispy. But if you don't mind fries that kind of sag, you're good. Tots are crispy but are an extra charge if you get the bag lunch. Why only 85% enjoyability? I have had a couple of instances lately where I have encountered some tough burger meat. This has slightly extinguished my enthusiasm about the place; I'm a fan of restaurants who grind their own burger meat, but I don't think that happens here. Kind of makes me wonder what kind of beef they are using. Standard burgers come with pickle slice, onion, ketchup and mustard. They'll usually ask you if this is alright, but if you don't like any of these items, be sure to tell them (or they will be on your burger). Lettuce and tomato are extra $. There is no waiter service, but I've often had a staff member come by and ask how the food is and if I needed anything. Nice considering that a tip, if any, is left when paying for the meal before it's received. Seating is limited (maybe 25-30?), so come early if you want a seat.

  • Kierstin G.

NOMNOMNOMNOM FEED ME and feed me Slabtown! This is my favorite place to get good ol' burgers, fries and pop. I don't drink pop but there's no way I'm coming in here without getting some Northwoods root beer to go with my onion rings. The soups are also great. I appreciate the small atmosphere and the outdoor seating. The people who work here are fun and sweet. Food is served up fast and fresh and the prices are totally reasonable. Usually about $8 for a meal.

This was my 1st Yelp find 2 years ago. It was awesome then and still is. It is a must stop in TC. The burgers are delicious and so are the hand cut fries. I don't drink sodas but can't pass the Northwood root beer to go along with the meal.

I come to Traverse City on an annual retreat with friends, and we head to Slabtown first thing! I LOVE the Black Bean Burger (I am as vegan as possible) - it tastes great and it's beautifully crispy. I add mushrooms and onions. My friends have tried several of the other burgers and have raved about each one. Superb freshcut fries. Yummy sweet potato fries. Excellent soups. We are usually here for a long weekend (Thursday-Sunday) and have been known to eat there three of those days. It would have been four, but they are closed on Sunday! Highly recommended.

Love it. Great place to eat, especially in the summer where you can eat outside. Inside can be cramped at times. Food is fresh and best eaten when served.

Very cool locally owned burger place...we ate here for lunch based on recommendations by yelpers and were very happy. No table service, you order at the counter inside and they bring your food to your table. Burgers were nice and juicy, lots of hand cut fries. The day we were there the staff weren't super friendly...not one smile was cracked by any of them...could have been an off day:), but overall a good experience.

Slabtown has great food and awesome fries fries. It's relatively inexpensive, service is fast and friendly, and it's located in a pretty neat old house. Definitely a great place to stop in TC!

Rolled in on one semi-rainy day after a shopping spree just craving a burger. That's what normal girls do, right? I ordered a mushroom burger with fries to go, excited to go home and watch something crappy on Netflix while enjoying my lunch/dinner. I filled up a Northwoods Root Beer from the soda fountain- which is awesome, because I love Northwoods and anything local. A girl brought the brown bag with my burger inside right to the table I was sitting, and I drove along my merry way. I love Slabtown.

Slabtown Burgers: It just SOUNDS like the kind of no-frills, dirt-under-your-nails, down 'n dirty kind of eatery that, when paired with the pretension-free foodstuff that is the all-American burger, you know it's gonna go well. And sure enough, Slabtown Burgers gives it to you good. Located in a smartly converted old time house in the Slabtown district, hence the name, Slabtown Burgers serves up all manner of meat sandwiches, fresh cut fries, locally sourced soda and other tasty treats for a pretty middling amount of money. The root beer they've selected is especially worth going in for - and Slabtown Burgers has noticed, refills on that drink will cost you extra. As it stands, a burger doesn't need to be any kind of artisan delicacy. Loading a burger up with all kinds of fancy toppings and artful presentation just gets in the way. Slabtown doesn't do that, though they do have several different combinations to sling your way, from an olive burger to a spicy southwestern style, to their very own Slabtown Special. What they do have, that I haven't seen in many other burger joints, are their stuffed patty deals, from a hot jalapeño to a bleu cheese stuffing, that is pretty great. In all, Slabtown Burgers does the job, and does a good job at that. They have great food at a decent price. Is it the best in town? I don't know yet, I'm new to Traverse City and haven't yet dug in to what the area has to offer. But for my money, you can't go wrong in Slabtown.

Great Place to check out in TC, HUGE selection to choose from!!! I would have liked a little less selection and just a tiny bit more concentration on making the Seasoning more on point. Almost a perfect experience except for 1 thing being under seasoned. Now on my list of must go to when I visit TC again next month.

My favorite burger joint! I love that they have options for pretzel and gluten free buns. I am very pleased with every meal I get here.

I would give this a 4 or 5 star rating based on the cute factor alone. However, I was slightly underwhelmed by the burger and since it's a burger joint I'm going to bump it down to 3 stars. They have seating both indoors and out. We were there on a beautiful and warm evening and all of the outdoor seats were taken. I didn't mind sitting inside though, re: cuteness factor. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. And it was good, it just didn't blow me away. Honestly, I thought the fries were the star of the show (fresh, handcut). One thing that I did love is that they were serving Michigan-made soda. I would come back, for sure. And I will enjoy my burger. But it's not something that I will crave.

Best burgers in Traverse City. I like their PUNGI'S PEPPER PATTY -- nice and spicy. Watch out if your order their tater tots...you'll end up with enough to feed 2-3 people.

Veggie burger is fab! Gluten free bun available! Northwoods soda even better! Great place to eat!

This place looks cool from the outside to in. Slabtown Cafe is in a old cute house with a big porch with bar stools for some of the outdoor seating. The inside is snazzy in it's own right from the chalk written menus to the colorful walls. Now the food-- hmm, it was OK. That's the best I can do and I had the olive burger, vanilla shake and fries. So decor/ atmosphere gets a 10 out of 10. The food would get a 5.5 for effort but since it looked good a 6.

My husband and I took a weekend trip to TC over the holidays. We had no itinerary except for the help of Yelp and this was the best place we found the whole weekend! The price was right, food was FANTASTIC, and environment was homey (literally). It was like eating in your friend's house except my friends could never make a burger & fries that good! Everything is home made and made to order. We both ordered a double burger and shared an order of fries. Neither one of us finished the burger as it was pretty big, but we polished it off a few hours later on our ride home and it was still delicious. I know where we'll go whenever we're in TC.

Respect. The Slabtown Special Burger is about as close as you're going to come to In-N-Out for a thousand miles. Grilled onions, double meat, special sauce. Very good. Fries are really good as well. I thought the chicken strips were good and nothing was overpriced. Strawberry shake was also great, but I'd split it with someone. I'll definitely come back for quick, reasonable food.

I love this place! Homemade, hand cut fries, and good burgers for the buck. I'm a fan of their Veggie burger-consistently good every time. Food comes in a timely manner- I'd suggest you check it out! And they can get pretty busy sometiimes, but it's already brown-baggged so just take it to go.

Slabtown is a hidden gem and settled off the beaten path for our tourists, but it's totally worth crossing Division St. to give it a go. I've never had an item that wasn't delicious. My favorite is The Hot Chick sandwich, which is a generous sized grilled chicken breast with pepperjack cheese, grilled onions & mushrooms, sliced jalepenos, and mayo. I always add lettuce and tomato. Wow! It has so much flavor, and the sandwich is only $4.95. I always get it in a bag-it combo for $3.60 more (bag = +fries & drink). There's vinegar on the table for the fries, along with a roll of paper towel (you'll need it), chalula, tabasco, ketchup, mustard, salt, & pepper. They also feature delicious soups, and locally made soda. The most unique thing about the place, in my opinion, is their ordering system. You approach the counter, give the friendly employee your order & name, they write it on a brown bag and put it behind them for the cooks. There are no order tickets - the bag is it. Then, they put your food directly into the brown bag, and the employees call your name and hand you your brown bag. It'll come in a brown bag even if you don't order the bag-it combo. The last time I was there I sat outside and there were staff out there 95% of the time delivering bags, cleaning tables, or doing quality checks. I'm hooked for life.

80+ degrees on a March day? Definitely had to find an outdoor spot and decided Slabtown would be it. Great burger, yummy fries and a shake. Can't get much better than this. Place your order at the counter and they bring you your bags of food. It's perfect for a no fuss meal with kids.

5 hours later and I'm still full. If you order the bag it (burger + fries & drink), you will be very very full. I couldn't finish all the fries, definitely a portion size for sharing. Friendly service, tons of menu options. I think I'll try chicken tenders next time, had the veggie burger this time. It was pretty good. Great sodas offerings from the fountain, mmm ginger ale. Cute furnishings/decor, definitely feels like a family joint and neighborhood hangout. I shall return to try other things on that looooong menu. It may be loud at peak times, but its all part of the fun. You know when there is a crowd, that is where you will find the yummy food! My dinner was under 10.00, but just barely. Most meals under 10.00, and others would be less it just depends on what you order. Very affordable. p.s. They have my favorite condiment of all time, cholula, in their baskets at each table. Sweet!

Now maybe I ordered the wrong thing but if its on your menu then it should be good right? Anyways I got the Buffalo burger on a gluten free bun and this had to be one of the driest burgers I've ever had! I know Buffalo is more leaner meat, maybe it was the gluten free bun and meat that just made double dry but the taste wasn't that bad. My mom seemed to enjoy hers she just got like a cheese burger. The malt she got wasn't bad either. So if I ever go back I'd definitely just stick to their regular burger and regular bun!

Great burgers and even better fresh cut fries. Sat on the patio on a sunny fall day. Local made chips and soda. Easy, fast, affordable with polite service. Great experience.

I really dug the atmosphere at Slabtown. The wife and I were up on business, and we found this place on Yelp! After walking in, we were quickly greeted, and saw that there were many boards with different types of burgers. Their variety is amazing, so there will be a burger for everyone for sure. They have fresh cut fries, and because I'm really into good beverage, they have draft root beer and other sodas from a local business. If you're in the area and want a burger, then this is where you go.

Yes if you are looking for a great hand made burger with fresh cut french fries along with excellent homemade soup, then this is the place for you. Walk up to the counter and order any one of 20+ burgers, chicken sandwiches, soups, salads and a mixture of other things. Grab your drink and go have a seat and they will bring it out to you to eat. The restaurant is in the main floor of an old slab house and it very cute and cozy. If you go during the peak times you have to finagle a seat from someone but if you go enough you figure out the perfect times where it isn't so busy. I recommend this place for anyone who just really enjoys a great burger, good soup and great service. They have a customer for life in me. They also use a local soda company Northwood Soda who have some great flavors and killer root beer in a keg.

This is a cute conversion of an old "slab" home on the west side of town. Burgers are the specialty. They have an eclectic menu of burgers. I had the Sweet Lincoln. It was fantastic. The meat has great flavor and the toppings were excellent. The fries are amazing as well. Definitely worth the trip.

Everyone's talkin' 'bout the burger in a bag. So I walked down to Slabtown and bought me one. Decent burger, though I think that there are better in TC. Hand-cut fries, with some malt vinegar, are a greasy treat. At five bucks, with a beverage, an affordable and tasty lunch.

Slabtown is a family favorite. Nice location in an adorable old home. I love their local made pop's and drinks. They have great burgers, delicious hand cut fries, soups, sandwiches and a verity of other things on the menu. They actually have a pretty big menu! Prices are decent and service is great. You order at the counter and they'll bring the food to you in a bag. There is plenty of seating outside but in the winter you might not get a place to sit. Last time I was there our food was ready and we were just standing there with our food waiting for a table to open up- that was a little uncomfortable. Parking also really stinks... there is very limited parking.

  • Chris B.

The burgers are excellent, however seating is very limited. The atmosphere is great, as ti is in an older home in the slabtown district. The price is right and the taste is most excellent!

Slabtown delivers! I stopped in a few times when I was in TC last and me and my family where all pleasantly surprised. Located in an old house, the atmosphere inside is nostalgic TC (what's not to like). Fresh cut fries, yummy burgers, and absolutely cheap! They also have picnic table seating outside which is great. Located in a great part of TC next to Old Olseson's and Westside so you can swing in on your way into town or on the way out. This place is better than Don's across town (except Slabtown does not have malts which is depressing), which competes in the same category. For the category, its as good as it gets in TC!

Best burgers in town. I have tried burgers from various places in TC - Don's Drive Inn, Sledders, J&S Burgers, etc. Slabtown is the best. Quality meat with fresh, quality ingredients between freshly baked buns. Patties are juicy. Buffalo burgers are great as well. I also appreciated the natural sodas they serve. Not from Coco-Cola or Pepsi. One order of fries can be shared between two people.

Slabtown is in a unique spot in Traverse City, just west of Division which can be seen as the unofficial "end" of downtown. But I hope that won't prevent people from venturing there. The burgers are good, but could be much better if the cooks didn't mash them into the grill in hopes of cooking them faster but ultimately squeezing all of that fresh-meat moisture out of them. They offer ever-changing burger specials, which can be easy to miss if you aren't paying attention; they're written on a chalk board behind the counter where you order. I recently ordered one off of the special menu that had fried potato, bacon, cheese and barbeque sauce or somesuch delicious combination. Also, you won't find the ever present Coke or Pepsi fountain drink machine; they offer locally made sodas and a really good root beer. The prices are reasonable to say the least, and it's usually semi-crowded in there around lunch time. They offer maybe 8-10 spots for outside seating, and in the summer their front lawn is a perfectly shady spot to enjoy a tasty lunch.

In addition to an excellent selection of the usual fare, they also have Buffalo burgers, fresh cut fries, and good soup too. (tomato basil bisque was fantastic!) Nice downtown, fun vibe.

Tasty burgers and great well cooked fries. Sweet Lincoln and the big blue are great burgers. Great selection of sodas and the volcano hot sauce is not to be missed. Perfect mixed with ketchup on the fries.

A great place to go to get a great burger fast and inexpensive. In addition to burgers they offer a number of chicken sandwiches and salads. The hand cut fries are salty and delicious. All that and it's served to you in a brown paper bag with your name on it. Definitely give Slabtown a try.

We love Slabtown Burgers. They have a huge selection on their menu including many different types of burgers, sandwiches, and soups. And their french fries are delicious. They also carry Northwoods Sodas and Wild Bills Root Beer. We eat here all the time and have never had a bad experience!

Wow, this place is worth finding. If you are coming from downtown, you will feel like you've gone too far since it's in a residential neighborhood. Very friendly staff and the food is outstanding. I had the mushroom burger, fries, and Northwoods Diet Cola. Yum. Cool detail: since it is in an old Victorian house, there is a shower in the bathroom! Even though it was a hot day, I didn't want to overstay my welcome. They have tables inside and outside. If you're in Traverse City go find this place! They have black bean burgers, buffalo burgers......anything you want.

This is an updated review. I reviewed Slabtown in its earlier days and wasn't so crazy about the burgers BUT I came back tonight for another try and much to my surprise I think I have finally found TC's best burger! TC has lots of good burgers--Bubba's, Don's, and J & S to name a few but I had never found a truly excellent burger in my 10 years of living in TC. Well, the double burger--Slabtown Special---that I had tonight was perfect. The meat was juicy and flavorful, just slightly greasy (that's a positive), dripping with special sauce, just a bit messy (another positive), perfectly fried onions with a nice soft bun. Didn't need to put anything else on it. This burger with their awesome fresh cut fries and a strawberry malt hit the spot. On top of the great meal, the staff is super friendly and helpful. It's just a plain ole fun place to hang for a quick meal. I think Slabtown has perfected the burger joint thing for TC. We're lucky to have 'em. :-)

A cool little burger dive! The fresh-cut fries were great and the burgers were pretty good with fantastic prices all around. Wraps, sandwiches, chicken fingers and salads were also available but you really can't go wrong with the burger and a bag (fries and a drink). The atmosphere was very local and laid back with oldies music and indoor/outdoor seating. At roughly $6 bucks a meal you get some local flavor at a bargain.
