Not sure if it's a total five, but better than a four. Had a couple of beers, all very reasonably priced. Beer selection was good, 30+ taps. Menu was not huge, but what I had was very good. Sweaty pig, a pulled pork sandwich with spicy slaw was quite tasty. Service at the bar was great. Picnic table set up, which I think is great for meeting people which I like to do if I am out with others. Tried it due to reviews on Yelp on a short trip from Cleveland. Would stop in again if in the area.

Best burger in the downriver, PERIOD! They have a great foods and brews. I cannot complain at all and I would highly recommend to go there out as a date if a couple loves to drink and food!

I am not even much of a beer person and I really like it here. The sandwiches and specials with their German flair are right up my husband and my alley. In March we had some fantastic rouladen and some spaetzle with roast beef and gravy. I am damn picky about rouladen so i can assure you they know German food. It was also a Wednesday so they had wheat pints for 3 bucks. As that is my preferred beer type this made me one happy camper. They also serve Flannel Mouth so that makes me even happier. We have sampled the sweaty pig (pulled pork with spicy slaw), hamembert (ham, Camembert, raspberry jam and arugula) and Bierkeller grilled cheese (with sausage, kraut and grilled onions) sandwiches. All have been delightful. I even had a lemon dill salmon in here that was tasty. The service has been good. The atmosphere is laid back. No glitches. A good place to eat with quality beers to match, even if you are not a beer lightweight like me. We will continue to return.

Fantastic beer selection, good food, good service. I love this place and at a whopping 3 minutes from my house it's quickly become my go to bar... They need a little help with theme nights... The times I've been in for trivia night it's always busy but my friends and I let to trivia host know that we were first timers (we have done Sporcle before but not quizzo) so we didn't know the rules.. She said she'd explain before we got started... That didn't happen which was frustrating. Karaoke night could be fun but the times I've been in its the same two guys singing all night and only a few tables in the house... Not the crowd this bar deserves. I love this place and can't wait to ride my bike over all summer ...

Loved every minute of our visit to this bar. The seating can be rough on busy nights, but my husband and I found a seat at the bar. The cutting board appetizer is a nice starter with a good variety of items to snack on. The beer selection was great! I tried a few new beers and the bartender was very good at making suggestions of things I'd like based on what I knew I already loved. We had the chicken and waffles as well as one of the burgers (I can't recall the name, but it had german sausage on the burger... so yummy!) and the food was great. They also do a very fun toast every night at 9 pm. We happened to visit on a night that the Jalopy Brothers band was playing and I loved their sound! I can't wait for my next visit to this fun, casual bar.

We had been here before for their soft opening. Then, they were only serving beer and appetizers. We went back tonight to try something from their full menu. My husband had the Bierkeller Burger, my son had the fish & chips, and I had the Sassy Dame. Both my husband and son enjoyed their food. My sandwich was just 'meh.' Not much flavor, and the bread it was served in was super greasy and tasteless. The 'spicy coleslaw' that was served with the fish & chips tasted as simple (and disgusting) as cabbage in milk. Very lackluster. I had higher hopes for this establishment. I will not be frequenting this place.

It is exciting to see a place like Bierkeller open in this area. They know what they wanted to do and they are staying true to their vision. We only had some appetizers but they were delicious and well executed and the beer list, for this geography, is phenomenal and exceptionally well priced. They also have some great specialty drinks. This would definitely be my number one choice of venues to eat and have a good beer in Taylor. Cheers!

The general atmosphere is nice. The drinks are fairly priced for the selection they carry. I didn't have any of the food but it might worth coming back to try sometime.

Another great bar for the downriver!! I can't believe it's going so well for such a new bar. The owners really did a great job. I love the american bar with the german flair. It's a great concept and makes it a place you can frequent often. The picnic style tables are great, especially if you come with a large group of friends. It's has some big TVs, but not overdone. The atmosphere is great; the decor is not too much over the top but not a hole either. It's comfortable!! The servers are nice and attentive without the overdone german outfits that you may expect. Keep it up, I will be here often!

So happy to find this SE Michigan Oasis on our run through the holiday gauntlet. Excellent beer selection, tasty, reasonably-priced food and friendly, welcoming service (waitstaff and passionate owner). Would highly recommend it.

So happy to have a new favorite spot downriver. We had an awesome experience all around here. The food was amazing! I had the turkey sandwich (sassy dame) with chips and my fiance had the chicken stew and a side of the daily spaetzel which was a corned beef. We were so impressed! Excellent beer selection and great service at the bar. We'll definitely be back again.

Ordered a $50 carry out. Th burgers weren't bad but way overpriced. The brat sliders were disgusting and under-cooked. The sauerkraut balls would have been good were they not so burnt. The sweaty pig was impossible to eat mushy and falling out of the soaking wet bun. Won't be back.

Absolutely Amazing Staff and I certainly love their German Tacos. The spaetzle are outstanding ~ big fan of the 9pm toast! You definitely need to check it out.

Two thumbs WAY UP! I've lived Downriver my entire life. I made a date with my dad to grab a burger and a beer tonight. Out of the blue, I yelped 'German' in the downriver area and Bierkeller appeared on the list. I was very surprised that Downriver now had a German place. After reading the reviews I decided to try it out. And I'm glad I did because I fell in love with this place. I've passed this establishment a million times throughout my life. I always figured it to be just a typical local bar / watering hole, and never went in. After new ownership and what I'm guessing was a substantial remodeling, this place is something special. When I pulled up, I was very surprised to see the parking lot and side lots FULL. And this was at 6p, on a Thursday night. Considering the parking lot was packed and the place had only been opened for three weeks, this place had to be special. Walking in, I wasn't disappointed. We were instantly greeted by a warm atmosphere and an equally warm staff who directed us to the last open table. My dad and I then proceed to stay for the next two hours and had a great time. The beer selection was great. They had many German beers on-tap along many other beers including the low end bud light type beers. I had a Spaten Lager. For appetizers, we tried the Kellercakes, which were very good. They're potato pancakes, which are always greasy but presented slightly different. Next time I'll try the Carving Board or Soft Pretzels. For dinner, my Dad and I both had cheeseburgers which freshly made and were excellent. The fries were the fresh cut, Five Guys style. Our waitress told us the Chicken and Waffles where the BOMB. Maybe I'll try that next time. We talked to the owner a bit. I forgot her exact words, but she described it as a German inspired bar. Not a strict German place. The food was great, atmosphere was excellent and service even better. The owner said they have live entertainment on Friday and Saturday. I typically don't like live music in bars because, 1) I like to hear my self think, 2) I like to talk to friends. BUT she mentioned that she only selects groups and bands that fit the atmosphere and that you can still enjoy the company of your friends. She mentioned some of the groups that come in, and they sound very unique and extremely entertaining. From her description, I'd really like to see the Jalopy Brothers. For desert my dad and I had Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites. Whoa. Again, AWESOME. They are small pretzels bites coated in cinnamon sugar and come with a cream cheese frosting dip and a Carmel dip. Unbelievable. Looking around the room, there were a great mix of people. I saw 20 somethings at the bar, several tables of 50's ish couples, a table of middle age men having beer, etc. It seemed like all types welcome. I didn't see any 'riff raff'. I have daughters 17 and 15, which our server said were more than welcome anytime. Huge thank you to the owners. Downriver desperately needed a place like this. I will absolutely go back. My only complaint would be that after only being open for three weeks and seeing how the place was crowded, I fear that success will make it hard to find a spot in the weeks and months to come. They're going to need a bigger place.

Amazing place to eat or drink. They have live acoustic music on the weekends and the best beer list I think I've ever seen! (Outside of a brewery) I had the Guten Morgan and my table got the carving board. They were both outstanding! I will definitely be revisiting this bar for the food and beer!

First, the place just opened, but you wouldn't know it. Well run, well staffed. I didn't see any thing I didn't like. A great beer selection for the Down River area. They have Bud and Labatt, but they also have great beers that you won't find at any other restaurant in the area. I got Founders pale ale that was from a nitrogen tap. Smooth with the right amount of hops. At 9 p.m. the bar keeper read a toast out loud and proclaimed the next hour to be $2 Magic Hat #9's. Try the Konig Ludwig Hefeweizen. I ate the Sweaty Pig pulled pork sandwich on an everything roll. Had spicy coleslaw on it. It was good. Served with chips for $7. My wife had Spatzel (Bacon, Cheddar and Hungarian Paprika) and potato pancakes. She raved about the spatzel. It changes daily, thus named Spatzel of the day. Wife said she'd go back for the Spatzel alone. The owner and his fiancée were very nice. He is VERY knowledgeable about beer. We spoke for several minutes. He offered to order me a case of beer, from his distributer, that I have to drive down to Ohio to get. I thought that was very thoughtful. Again, the place just opened but ran very well. Oh, the seating is communal. You get in where you fit in. The tables are long rustic and wooden. If there is an opening you will be sat. I liked that, kept me from having to wait for a private table.

Came here for lunch after church; the first time it wasn't too packed to get it. The food is amazing, standard bar fare with a flavorful twist. We got the cutting board, which was great, although the prosciutto was not cut thin enough. I had the Hamembert, which was amazing. Even my father-in-law, who is a meat and potatoes guy, loved the fried apple and cheddar kielbasa. A nice selection of craft beers plus a good selection of imports, which are often ignored in beer bars today. The only issue is that this is definitely designed as an adult place, no high chairs or kids menu, but not unexpected. And we did not get any negative attention when we showed up with a toddler and an infant.

We were really excited to try Bierkeller when they opened up and we were not disappointed. They have a great selection of beers on tap and the service was very friendly. They're still getting things sorted out, so there were a few issues. For example, when I ordered a hefeweizen that was on their giant chalk board (I can't remember the brand) the bartender said that it only came in a bottle. I said that that was fine. She then brought me a completely different beer. This happened again later to my husband. Eventually we looked around and saw that the beers we had ordered were in fact on tap. So I think they are going through some growing pains, but be patient and just go with the flow and things will be good. The food is German with an American twist. We split a grilled cheese that had sauerkraut and sausage on a sourdough bun. It was very good but greasy. Most things on their menu are greasy so don't expect to find too many healthier options. Overall we're very pretty happy with this place and plan on coming back soon to try more beers and menu items.

After receiving several negative reviews from my friends and neighbors about this new restaurant, I decided to wait a couple weeks before visiting for myself. I was disappointed with my visit. First, our server had bad body odor. Sorry, but it was that bad. My burger was "ok" and just had no seasoning. My wife's sandwich was greasy, soggy and just not edible. The beer list was the only thing that I was impressed with. Not sure if we will try it again anytime soon. I hope that they could make some improvements quickly and stay in business. I wish them well.

We popped in on a Sunday afternoon hoping to miss the football/dinner crowd. And we certainly did! Grabbed a high top and were quickly waited on. Ordered our beers, an appetizer and two sandwiches. The appetizer came out fast. We weren't even done with those before our meals were already at our table. No dilly dallying around! But we never felt rushed. They're just that fast on the grill. The fried apple and cheddar kielbasa was fantastic. Will definitely be making more stops here in the future.

Food was excellent. I had a chicken sandwich that I had them add ham to. The rest of my party had potato pancakes and the cinnamon apple kielbasa. Being a holiday it was nice and quiet. A couple of things that keep me from giving it more stars. I understand it is geared towards beer but a smaller portion menu for kids would be nice. We made do with sharing so it wasn't a big deal. The other pain dealt with the jukebox. If people pay money for their songs the bartender shouldn't be skipping it just because "omg I hate this song". In a nutshell, great food. A little pricey for a family but would make a nice date location.

The fat man runeth! Go ahead and ask yourself what me (A 340lb. man) running has to do with a four star review of this german restaurant. Ok, so I'll tell you. I'm on a weight loss journey, as part of that journey I joined the Downriver Runners Club. That club meets at various locations on the first Wednesday of the month, that location this month just happened to be at Bierkeller in Taylor. We arrived around 6 p.m. and they sent out a staffer who took a few group photos of the assembled runners. Then the club was off to the races, with me pulling up the far, far rear (That's a tale for a different day though...) Upon our return to the restaurant the group descended on the place like murderous horde (Or so I assume, I wouldn't arrive back until much later.) Once I was there, the group was seated and had ordered their first round of drinks. I'm not a drinker so it wasn't a huge deal to be that far behind. I was there in time to order a Chicken and Waffle meal (Which actually came with some bacon and an egg as well.) The waffle, bacon and egg were all perfect. The breaded chicken was a bit over cooked and crunchy, but was great in the flavor department. The other runners all seemed to enjoy their meals and drinks as well, and we were all served in a relatively timely manner considering it was such a large group. Not everyone's meal arrived at the same time, but again, with a large group that is to be expected slightly. It wasn't too noisy inside, and they had the Tigers game on the TV. It was a bit dark for my taste, but then again so are most restaurants, it did add to the ambiance on the place. Since I'm trying to lose weight, I'm not sure I'll be a frequent customer, but I will definitely return.

One word to describe this place----EXCELLENT! Today was the first time I had been here, in fact I was unaware a German place like this existed. It's not incredibly big but still perfect. Decent sized bar with many beer choices, great food. I had the chicken and waffles and was quite impressed. The flavoring on the chicken was delicious. Often times the chicken is just chicken tenders or friend chicken. The breading was very tasty. This is place that could be easily passed and doesn't seem like it fits in the area. The service can't be overlooked either. Server was friendly, and kept my refills coming.

This place was a fun choice for dinner. They have a fantastic selection of beer, wine, cider and even a mead! They have gluten free buns for their great selection of creative burgers, and all of the entrees are under $10. The only negative part of our trip here was the wait for our food. It took about 30 minutes at 8pm on a weekday, with maybe 10 other people drinking at the bar and one couple eating dinner. I had the feeling that there was only one cook, and perhaps they weren't good at making 4 entrees at once. Our fries were cold when we were finally served, and the burgers were lukewarm. The tv's were also very loud by our seating area, but they did turn down the volume a little when we asked.

I found this little gem on yelp while we were out shopping. My husband was looking a little peeked so I started flipping through yelp for some suggestions. With promises of German beer and sausages we headed on over. My husband spent about a month in Germany and was thrilled to see his favorite beer on the menu. We started with a really nice soup. Potato and cucumber was the soup of the day and it was really good. I know it's sounds of but it was really nice. My husband got bratwurst sliders and they looked amazing. He was given a couple different topping choices and they all sounded good. I got a Caesar salad with chicken. It was okay. (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). The salad came dressed with a side of dressing. With the chicken and croutons piled on top I didn't noticed and dressed it twice. My salad was swimming in dressing. Outside of that the service was spot on and the locals seemed to be enjoying themselves. This is a cool place!!!!

A real solid addition to the Downriver restaurant/craft beer scene (is that even a thing? I think it is.). Bierkeller opened recently and probably hasn't stopped being packed since. I've visited four times but have only been served twice; the other two times they had waits longer than a half hour so I went somewhere else! Sad for me, good for business. I've only ever sat at the bar and have always had great service. They employ friendly bartenders who are willing to let you try a beer before you order it. They have a vast selection of beers on tap and in bottles from breweries like Short's, Founders, Goose Island, Jolly Pumpkin and more. Prices are reasonable, at around $4.50 a pint and $6 for 23oz. Food: Soft pretzels and cheese? DELICIOUS. Burgers? Both were ordered medium-rare and served well-done. It wasn't a good, high-fat beef either, so it was dry as hell. I wouldn't order another burg here so I'll stick to their apps. The homemade chips served with the burgers are good with some salt. Bierkeller offers a unique variety of spaetzle every day, a soup of the day ("Mmm that sounds good, I'll have that!") and cupcake of the day. I keep meaning to try their meat and cheese tray because it always looks tasty! Next time. You'll find a dozen TVs playing sports, and they also have a TouchTunes jukebox that you can control from your smartphone. It's a lively bar to stop and have a beer at, if you can find a seat!

What a great little place! We went there on an early Saturday afternoon. Fortunately there were a couple of tables open, so we got to partake in the fare. It has a German theme, especially in their food. The menu is more than adequate and we all liked what we ordered. The portions are not American sized, but you'll leave full. The star here is the beer list. No humongous, but filled with quality brew. The table situation is a mix of bench-type seating and some high tops. The place is not that large and by the time we left, all seats were taken. The staff was great. Our waitress kept our glasses full and the bartender got the drinks out to us quickly. The prices are not crazy, either. I'm planning more trips here.

I visited for the first time a couple weeks ago. I don't know why it took me so long. The food and beer selection is amazing. Top notch wait staff and management. They had an old timey band playing at a reasonable level. One of my new favorite places.

Stopped in here around 6:30 on a Friday, after an unsuccessful trip to the thrift store. We found a spot at the bar, and the waitstaff was super attentive and very friendly. The beer menu includes 30 taps, which is fantastic for downriver. As a beer snob, I wish they had a few more Michigan options on there, though the german beers were well-represented, and available in liters! Tons of size options, and all reasonably priced. the food menu is also reasonably priced, and with some serious sandwiches, burgers, spaetzel, appetizers, and desserts. My friends split an appetizer and a spaetzel, and left stuffed. I had a sandwich with sweet potato fries, which was more than satisfying - the ingredients were high quality and worthwhile. My fries were a bit soggy, which was a bummer, but still delicious. though this isn't anywhere near where I usually drink, I would come back for a bite and some beers. Good job, bierkeller!

GREAT Atmosphere, love the picnic style tables and the bar ... love the German ambiance .... got the cheese and cracker appetizer ... was simply okay, servers not too attentive and i ordered the brat sliders, keller cakes decent ... not enough to write about. i will say its a place to go although personally I'd just go for a beer and maybe just a snack.

I took some time to decide if I wanted to come here. I'm glad I finally came. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The place is small but it works. I like the vintage decor. There are plenty of tv's today see multiple games. I ordered the chicken and waffles. It was pretty good. I would get it again. The other items in the menu were also interesting. I will try something different when I come back next. My 4 yr old daughter got the grilled cheese. It came with ham and was very good. I thought that was a standout dish. The onion rings were also very good as well. Since I don't like beer I can't speak for it it it looks like they have plenty of variety. They also had other types of drinks that looked good. Overall, I would recommend this place.

We were in town for a wedding and found this little Germanish place near our hotel. They had a pretty decent selection of beer on tap, primarily German imports and various Michigan breweries. The food is not really German but is closer to American pub food topped with sauerkraut. The bier was what drew us in but we both thought that the lunches were very good as well. We went on a Saturday at lunch and it was fairly slow, possibly due to the road construction right outside. It was not a large place so I could see longish wait times in the evening. All in all this was a pretty good stop, especially if you are already in the area.

Been here about 5 times since they've opened. I think it's a great addition to downriver. The inside is very nice. I actually used to work here years ago when it was Gerrings. So the update to the inside is wonderful. All the food I've had has been great! The bacon and cheese spatzel is my favorite. I'm not a bear drinker but the German grapefruit beer is yummy. My reason for only 3 stars has to do with the wait staff. Each time I've come we've not had a good waitress. The first 2 times I chalked it up to being new...but it hasn't gotten better. They take forever to come take your drink orders, then your food orders and refills almost never happen. We always go for an early dinner or late lunch, do never during their super busy time. I still will keep going...maybe one day we'll get a good waitress.

Love this breath of fresh air for our area. Hip, trendy and awesome selection of beer. We come here twice a week at least. Food is really good but I can tell it's starting to slip from when they first opened. Chicken and waffles are great as are the sauerkraut balls and pretzels. Gets crowded quickly at peak times so get there early but the community seating is awesome and meet some great people. Staff are normally ver patient and well educated in the drinks. Few suggestions, Rina needs to spend more time with the guests and less time on her cell phone. Get to know your customers and build your local businesses ess reputation. Taylor is a very small bar community and that goes a VeRY long way. Some of the food quality is starting to slip. Getting greasy and over cooked on some items especially fried items. They are al coming out almost burnt lately. Some of the Spaatzle has also been blah and mushy. Probably don't need to change it daily. Find a few really great ones and stick with what works. Need to manage the kitchen staff before you lose that awesome quality. Don't settle for less than excellent. You have an excellent venue here and if the owners keep it fresh with an occasional menu tweek, entertainment and beer events they will be most successful!!! This bar can compete with some of the best new places downtown. Love coming here and talking to the bartenders and staff, learning about new beers and building community relationships amongst guests!!!

Excellent choice of craft beers! Love their flights (3 or 6 generous snifters of your choice). They have great appetizers- my favorite are the German spring rolls and the chips with dip. I haven't had much from the dinner menu, but my husband had the German tacos and they were pretty good. Friendly staff, and great German atmosphere! Will be returning to this place for sure in the future.

I just came from my first experience at Bierkeller. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I ever had. My first impression of the place wasn't bad. Although small the interior was nicely done. The atmosphere does ring true to the German theme. My friend and I started our meal by ordering off their cocktail menu. We both ordered the same drink, a Crown Royal Old Fashioned. He was given a Crown Royal and Coke, I was given a shot of Crown Royal. Confused we asked the waitress what we ordered. Maybe she didn't understand what we asked for? When we questioned her, she just gave us this look like "what are you talking about?" and didn't shed any light onto what went wrong. Rather than complicate things further we just tolerated what we had. Next came the food. Our table ordered the Bierkeller Bratwurst and Spaetzle. Both were awful. The bratwurst is allegedly grilled. It is boiled, for a very long time. So long, in fact, it was hard, rubbery, chewey and just plain disgusting. It did have some grill marks on it so it probably made a brief pit stop on a flat grill before landing on the stale pretzel bun. The red cabbage sauerkraut wasn't bad and is definitely the highlight of the entire sandwich. I could only stomach about a third of the sandwich before I tapped out. The "haus chips" weren't anything special either. They are basically burnt homemade potato chips. The spaetzle was one of the worst items I have ever witnessed served in a restaurant. Microwave a block of Velvetta cheese, toss in a handful of dumplings and you have this dish. It was not edible. It is literally a bowl of gritty, liquid cheese with some dumplings. This dish came with a barley and potato soup. Again it was plain disgusting. It appeared as if someone boiled potatoes in water, tossed in some ground beef and barley into that water and served it as a soup. No seasoning, nothing. Just awful. When our waitress returned and asked if we wanted our food to go we politely replied "no thank you." Perplexed as to why we wouldn't want to take this disaster home with us she asked "you didn't like it?" We replied "no, it wasn't very good." She just stared blankly, turned around and walked off. How's that for service! I would not recommend this place nor would I ever return. Even if they found competent staff the food is disgusting.

I am giving this place 5 stars because of nice, interesting beer list, incredible nice wait staff, great food and nice atmosphere. but the PLACE IS JUST TOO DANG LOUD! I'm not gonna knock off any stars for that tho cause I think you should go see for yourself! Maybe you like it loudish! It was just cause there was a live singer maybe. I am sort of older too. So I'm keeping with my 5 star theme and saying you should go here. My husband got a delicious hard cider. I got a sampling of 3 beers, they are just sold by the piece. They print a list of what they have on draft. It seems very organized, but just ask the first time you go to get your bearings. We got the pretzels, very delicious. Wish we could have gotten someone to shoot the side of whole grain mustard but alas, no. My friend got eh delicious fish and chips and it was not overly breaded. We both thought it was well done. My other friend got a burger. I.... forget, I'm sorry. I don't know how the burger was. The staff was so friendly, checking on us often! but not overly and not making us feel uncomfortable. The ambiance was nice! I like this place, I have no idea where it is, I am actually from Cleveland but it was a good place.

Visited because a friend was in from out of town and he suggested this a as the meeting place. We had a large group 25 people coming and going. Rena was our waitress and she hit it out of the park never wanted for anything and she kept our tabs separated and correct. I had the build your own burger, because I missed the chicken and waffles on the menu. All of the different food ordered in the group looked fantastic and no one complained about bad food. Beer selection was fantastic and prices are great for the selection. Only drawback on this place is the bathrooms are in need of a lot of attention. However the staff is aware of this as a sign on the inside of the men's room says "our bathroom sucks but the beer is cold" Don't get to Taylor often but when I do I will stop back for sure.

Checked this place out after hearing about its amazing selection of many craft beers, and imports; both bottled and on draught. My husband and I were fortunate enough to find a couple of seats at the bar on a fairly busy Saturday. Mark the owner, was very knowledgable about the beer menu and was very friendly and personable. What a super nice guy! He really made us feel welcome. We only tried one appetizer, the pretzel sticks with the awesome German mustard were really good. We are looking forward to going back and trying some more things off the food menu, and some more of the fabulous beer choices. Definitely a go-to place!

I was looking for a place between Detroit and Ypsilanti to visit with a friend for a late dinner, and Bierkeller stuck out on the yelp reviews, and deservedly so. Firstly, the beer selection is good, but not something you'd expect at a place like Hopcat or a brewery, but that's not the point. They have a good selection of everything from high end Michigan microbrews to a solid choice of everything german and fermented. Prices are by the pint, half liter, or full liter, which is a nice change to a standard (and inconsistent) US pint. The food is what you'd expect from a German cum American restaurant, with a good selection of pretzel and starch based appetizers, and sausage and meat pile based entrees. I opted the "The German", and was greeted with a huge pile of fries, sausage, grilled onions, and mushrooms on a bun. Apart from it coming apart mid meal and forcing me to use a fork, it was tasty and extremely filling, at a fairly reasonable price. I'm not sure why Bierkeller is a $$ establishment, I got away under $15 after tip with a beer and a meal. The atmosphere was a bit on the loud side, but I attribute that to going on a day when the Red Wings were playing. Overall, a top notch place to get your grub on Kraut style!

Greatest place ever. The service okay, but the food and originality is where they excel. There are no German restaurants around in the area, which makes this place exceptional. I am certainly going to be bringing my friends back here.

Super fun. This place is great! We came here on a whim date-night and will definitely be coming back, a lot. The seating is picnic style and a bar. Every night at 9 they have an official 'toast master' give a toast and announce a couple of shot specials that was an element of surprise that added to the atmosphere in a really good way. The food menu is relatively simple but do not let that fool you, the food is so far beyond the 'bar food' you typically see, great food and perfect portion size. The beer menu includes a variety of styles from several different locations around the US and some from German. I couldn't decide so I picked a 6 option flight, for someone who likes variety (mostly because I hate the decision making process), the flight is the way to go! Great atmosphere, fun staff, delicious food, and cold brews. Couldn't ask for more, looking forward to our next visit already!

Great beer, served properly. Great, interesting food, served hot and fresh, and an excellent atmosphere. Nothing more to say but try the German tacos!

I have been there five times now. The atmosphere and beer selection is great. Service is pretty good, friendly staff is trying hard because the place is always packed. The food is fair at best. The chef needs a LOT more training, it seems as if the fryers are too hot and the food is coming out slightly burned.

I felt the drinks were a little over priced for what I was getting I bought a cocktail at this restaurant not long ago and it was literally 8 bucks for a small glass really just a single sip. fair enough I got my food and can't say i enjoyed that either I felt it had little taste what so ever... Personally I will not be going back I have had allot better food and drinks at other establishments.

Great (and hard to find) brews, yummy food, and fantastic service. I've been there a few times and all of our waitresses were very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and beers. I also love the atmosphere. The pennies everywhere are a really neat touch.

Super cute little bar. I love the way they remodeled and designed it. Love the big tables, I wish the place was bigger! Great beer on tap and good wait staff. Was there once when they had a little two man band playing, they were great too! Get there early though it's very small and if you have a large group you'll need a whole table and they fill up fast. There was one questionable incident. My friend ordered a Dirty Blonde and it was very off. Tasted like line cleaner and stale beer. The waitress told us that's how dirty blonde always tastes.... Then she said she could put some lemonade in it to help it taste better.... Bla, gross. In the end she still charged him for it. We were with a big group and there for a while; I know the bill was very large, just seemed like she shouldn't have charged him... He didn't drink it. Also, my favorite beer, Bean Flicker didn't quite taste right. So I don't know of its a problem with their beer or two flukes. I'm looking forward to hanging out there more to find out.

Went here for the first time today. The atmosphere and crowd were great. Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel really welcome. I had the German spring rolls and the Guten Morgen. They were really nicely flavored. It was a bit crowded and we did have to wait on our food for awhile. But if you're the kind of person that doesn't mind mingling then you won't mind.

After all reviews I had to try. Wonderful service. Actually best thing about trip. A very good Potato Cucumber soup with fresh dill on top. Mushroom Spatzle A little bland for my tastes but good ingredients and fair portion. And then my disappointment. I ordered "The Sweaty Pig" Pulled pork topped with spicy slaw. I guess I hoped for something that didn't taste like canned pork. No sauce of any sort other than the slaw. I didn't find it spicy but rather loose and sort of sloppy. It was very out of place based on the quality of other items. Community seating. You may meet some nice people.

The Beerkeller had an impressive 37 beers on draft when we visited. As far as wine the menu listed five reds and six whites plus house wines. The red wines included some sweet red wines such as Dornfelder, which is a nice nod to Germany. They were out of the dry red I ordered first, and then they were also out of the house Cabernet I ordered next, but they did have another Cabernet available, so all worked out in the end. As far as decor, the atmosphere was dark with several TVs featuring sports, including International soccer. There were picnic table type beer garden tables available for seating, as well as plenty of bar seats. The upper half of the walls were done in Faux stone. There was a respectable crowd there the whole time we were there, and the noise of all of the patrons did carry a bit. The menu was not German cuisine per se, but had a bit of a nod to some German fare, including something called German tacos, which, had I been hungrier I'm sure I would have tried. We ended up with the sauerkraut balls, which looked like hush puppies, and they could get away with calling them sausage balls because there was a lot of sausage in there rolled in crispy breadcrumbs before being fried. To finish our food order we went with the cinnamon pretzel bites which came with a caramel dip and a cream cheese dip. The soft bites were crisp on the outside and I was surprised to find that I liked the contrast with the caramel better than the cream cheese. All in all this was a nice stop while passing through. Prices were reasonable and service was good.

Cool little place nestled downriver. Went for lunch and we were the only people in the joint besides the employees. However, it made for a pretty chill experience. We made it In time to enjoy both the lunch and dinner menus. Lunch menu just had some more sandwich selections which is what we decided to have. I had the Jonny Applebrie, essentially a grilled cheese with Brie and sliced apples. My beau had the Cuban, made with Dearborn ham. Both were excellent choices. Also, they had a little happy hour special that included $3 pints of any Michigan beer. Kind of a cool concept. I had the Blake's cider which was part of the deal and it was great. Really good service and nice ambiance. I imagine this place will be crazy for the Oktoberfest party they are hosting September 25, 26, 27...I'm hoping to make an appearance! Will definitely be back to bierkellar! **try the sauerkraut balls appetizer!

The definition of five stars. My new favorite bar!! The beer selection is top notch (especially for the area) and reasonably priced. The delicious food has a fresh, unique twist. The atmosphere is awesome -- it looks fantastic and has a very positive energy. Everyone always seems to be having a good time here, myself included! The servers are very attentive, and one of the owners checks in every time I visit. Couldn't ask for anything more! I visited three times in the first week they were open, and I'll definitely be back many, many times in the future!
