I do not care for Wheelers. I know it is for sale, and for good reason. The salad bar is stale and the atmosphere is depressed. The food from the kitchen is not good either. I agree with no chains, but this one isn't great...

Small towns have great places to eat if you get off the expressways and lust look around. WHEELER'S in Standish is one of these places. Good food and good people is what it's all about. The charm of this place alone beat any chain into the ground. It has a history you can not make up. Remember to eat well and to live well, and please NO CHAINS!

I have to say this place has staying power if nothing else. I remember going there with my parents in the early 1960's, before I75 on the way to South Branch from Toledo.

My mother-in-law and I had an EXCELLENT lunch here on Saturday afternoon when we were in town visiting family. We both had Club sandwiches, which were super-fresh -- Easily the best club sandwich I've ever had. Hit the spot! We both ate 3/4 of them, they were so big. We also split an order of fries which were plentiful, hot and perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The waitress was friendly and helpful; good service. And, while not inexpensive, we felt the meal was very much worth the price. We just really enjoyed it and hope to have the occasion to stop again at Wheelers for more deliciousness! I would even go out of my way off the highway to come here to eat rather than have more fast food - ugh! Thanks, Wheelers!

Sept 24,15 while traveling through Standish we stopped at Wheeler's. The lunch special was a Ham Salad sandwich with fries. When served there wasn't enough spread to even cover the bread let alone make a sandwich. Complaint to the waitress was ignored as was a request to speak to the manager. Worst toast and lettuce sandwich we ever had. Did find out upon leaving that they ran out of Ham Salad and served what was left over. I called the next day to speak to a manager which was again not available. The male waiter told me he wasn't interested and the wait staff are running the restaurant. Obviously no one cares. To bad this used to be a quality restaurant.

Best Home cooking whether your coming or going. Great service! Everytime I come through Standish I make it a point to stop and patronize a local restaurant. Super Perch lunch or dinner!

Genuine small town charm and affordable prices. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast during Christmas week. You can instantly feel you're stepping into a place of history with some of the original decor dating back to the 30's. The walls are lined with items from over the decades and you attain a feeling of nostalgia as you sit down, read the menu, and receive smiles from the other guests there. We had a typical breakfast and I ordered a monte cristo. Everything was great and the service was friendly. Even though the monte cristo didn't have any powdered sugar and was basically french toast with ham and cheese, it was still very good. This place is by no means an upscale modern restaurant, so don't expect that. Instead, expect a small town diner with small town prices. Those who said this was high priced were very wrong. Wheeler's has some of the lowest menu prices in the country.
