Had the Haystack Burger during my first ever visit to the Ale House and it was great! The bun was very thin and fresh, the burger was cooked to perfection, the onion strings were large and crispy, and the addition of swiss cheese compared to the usual cheddar was a welcomed touch. Their trips, or homemade chips, were great too - but I'm a sucker for any homemade chips. Got it all for $8.99.

Tried it twice now. Won't go back, Bad food and bad drinks - lime was brown in Mixed drink. Almost seems as if the owner fired most of the staff, as the cook served us.

*Sigh.....* another disappointment for Battle Creek. You would think for a place whose name entices thoughts of an overwhelming beer selection, they would have plethera of brews on tap. This is not so. I had a Two Hearted IPA and I can say that a redeeming quality is having local brews on tap. The atmosphere was cozy, besides the awful 80' contemporary radio playing. I do not care to drink beer to the worst music to come out of an already horrible decade. As for the food, the Cajun shrimp was over breaded and tasted store bought. We had the wings for an appetizer and I would have done better by going to KFC and ordering the extra crispy recipe. I thought the Texas burger showed promise, but it tasted like Manwich piled on a frozen patty. And to top it off, the fries came straight from a grade school cafeteria. This place sounded promising, but if you're in the mood for beer and wings or even just a good burger, stick with Bdubs.

I have been there many times and find it a likable place with a pleasant atmosphere. The food has always been good and I like having a salad and soup bar. I would categorize this as more of a neighborhood hangout place, and a place for golfers to rethink their golf scores. Also a nice place to have dinner. I like the view of the golf course and the various decorating inside. Do agree that the beer selection is not promoted, but I never thought about it (relative to the name of the place) until I read the review below. In other words I've been quite happy to visit this restaurant.

This place has totally gone down hill my two gf and myself when out there for dinner tonight . We ordered 2 dozen steam claims and grilled zingers for apps . R waitress was very nice but unfortunately not such a good waitress. When r apps came out my zingers were fried not grilled which I wanted to send back but one of my gf is a waitress so she get mad at us if we send things back agh...... For dinner my gf who is the waitress order oriental salad which she said was gross she only ate half of it my other gf and myself decided to share a pizza with the instruction of having it cooked well done crispy what we got was a pizza that was half way cooked and on top of that it was more crust then pizza we did have one beer each and the captain jack dessert which I must say was soooo good our bill was $82. ( mind u the small steamers were $13..a dozen so for two dozen we paid $26. I could have gone to the acme and got 4 dozens steamed clams for $ 26. Which probably would have been bigger and tasted better) and of course we had to leave 20% it cost each one of us $34. It take me one and a half hours to earn $34. Was so not worth it do yourself a great big favorite skip this dive!!

Greeted right away and drink order taken. Girl who brought drinks said waitress would be over to take our order. Fifteen minutes went by and same girl came back and said our waitress was busy and she was going to wait on us. Interesting since there were only four tables with customers. Order was taken and waited an exceptionally long time for the food to get to the table. Waitress warned me that the center plate of my baked spaghetti was extremely warm. What a joke. Food was stone cold. Took another 20 minutes for the waitress to come back around and ask how things were. Told her about the cold spaghetti and she really didn't know what to say. The person with me had the so called pot roast. It was about a 4oz piece of meat 80 percent of which was fat. The vegetables were one piece of carrot, one piece of broccoli, and tons of cauliflower. They were just cooked and topped with gravy, definitely not cooled with the meat. Waitress said she would talk with the manager and after 10 minutes came back with our bill. Didn't charge us for the meals, just for two salad bar. So total for two salad bars and two glasses of water was just under $15. Will NOT be back here.

The Ale House is located at the Springbrook Golf Course on Avenue A in Springfield near Fort Custer. It has a great view overlooking the golf course where you will frequently see deer and other wildlife while dining. They have a great menu with steaks, burgers, salad bar etc. There is a full service bar with reasonable drink prices.
