while visiting my bf's hometown suburb of detroit, i was introduced to the "mecca" of pizzerias, or so they claimed. HALLELUJAH, i sang in its praise as the ultra sweet sauce hit my tongue. AMAZING! the best pizza i've had EVER. i hear there's some serious sugar in their secret recipe. DELISH! my kinda pie!

Not really that great. I don't like sweet sauce on my pizza so I am not a fan of this place. I would much rather spend my money at pizza papalis. Give it a shot if you have never been but I'm not impressed.

I love Roma's pizza. Sadly, I'll never go there again. From what I understand, the place is under new ownership. And it shows. My wife and I moved out of the Downriver area several years ago, so we're kind of out of the loop. Anyway, this summer we took our classic car down to the Downriver Cruise. We hung out a a friend's local business for the entire day, and well into the late evening. Then it hit me. OH MY GOD!! I CAN ORDER A JUMBO AND TAKE IT HOME!! So, that's exactly what I did. I can't even begin to explain how excited I was for our two kids to try the greatest pizza in the world. So we arrive there, I walk in to pick it up, and the cashier tells me they're cash only, but there's an ATM right behind me. The surcharge was pretty damn high. High enough for me to think that their cash only policy is more of a money grab, than anything else. Now that I've read some of the reviews, that's exactly what it is. $1.00 for a Styrofoam take out container??? Riiiiight. So I told the cashier to keep the pizza. As I was turning around to walk out, the cashier tells me that the pizza is already done, and I have to pay for it. I just laughed at her in response. She then told me that if she has to, she'll call the cops on me. To which I laughed even harder, and told her to do her worst. Just don't go there. Chances are, you'll end up in a fight with the trash working in the place. Or threatened to have the police called on you. Possibly both if you're really lucky. Also, great decor....From 1975.

Never again. We first tried pizza from here around seven years ago, and found it not to our liking (and VERY expensive), so had not bothered to try them again. Last Saturday (7/12), I was in sore need of a meatball sub, however, and the place from which we usually get pizza does not have this item on their menu, so I ordered one from Roma's, and my husband ordered the lasagna. We also ordered a garden salad. Again: EXPENSIVE. Our tab for those three items was almost thirty dollars. The sub was basically inedible. Soft, soggy bread, WAY too much of a sauce that was flavorless except for the sweetness, dry, tasteless meatballs reminiscent of dog food, and more cheese than one human being should eat in a week, and I say that as a really big fan of cheese. It was horrible. I took two bites, which I had to use a knife and fork to get, because there was no way that you could attempt to pick up that sloppy monstrosity with your hands. I did not taste hubby's lasagna, but it looked like it had been assembled by the same team of geniuses that figured two quarts of sauce would go nicely with a soft piece of bread. I don't recall seeing any actual lasagna noodles, just a saucy, cheesy mess. He did not enjoy it. At all. We ended up throwing most of it away and eating the salad. Surprisingly, the sweet house dressing was the best part of an otherwise awful meal. On Sunday, I went to the grocery, purchased fresh ingredients, and made my own damned subs. The way I figure, Roma's owes me thirty bucks for the meal we couldn't eat, and another thirty for the one I had to cook myself. We will not return.

A family tradition for every year of my existence. I have had this establishment's fine pies at my birthday parties, graduation parties, parties in general, and even for a night when I want a pizza that will rock my socks. To all of you haters out there..yes the sauce is sweet! That is part of the glory that is Roma's. It isn't for everyone, but hey not all food is. Let me do you a favor..order a jumbo pepperoni and mushroom, cheese to the edge of the crust, and extra sauce. There you go you just ordered the perfect Roma's pizza. Also, if you are starving their antipasto salad is served in what some would call a bucket. Prepare your abdomens and taste buds as you are about to partake in a religious experience.

Ok ,so been going to romas off and on for years. The service and quality of food has declined fast the last few yrs. I had found a staple in my pizza previously on a visit there. Manager came to the table and apologized. Last night was running errands, romas was in the vicinity. Picked up a pizza on the way home. Eating dinner with my children. My son pulls out a huge thick peice of string while eating. Needless to say, we won't be ever eating there anymore. Wonder what other disgusting things end up in their pizza. #Nasty!!!!!!! #Gross!!!!!!!

Worst service ever! Counter girl messed up my order when I complained the "manager" swore at me hung up on me. My husband then called asked for the manager and he hung up on him refusing to talk to him. I used to drive 20+ minutes just to go there. Too many times of bad service makes the good food not worth it. They need new employees!!!!!

My family and I have been coming here for years. We have had their pasta platter for 2 - which has fed a family of 5! It is great and you get a bunch of different types of pastas, on full plates, and a regular sized lasagna. Their lasagna is excellent as well, they use a ricotta filling. We have also had their pizza which is so cheesy and more like a deep dish style pizza. Their antipasto salad is the best. Their house dressing is very sweet, you can taste and see the sugar in it but that's what makes it so great. I have to say their sauce on everything, the pasta and pizza, is very sweet as well. I typically don't like sweet tomato sauces, but I enjoy theirs a lot. It's different than what I'm used to. I also have to mention that I've been coming here for years, and it is ALWAYS consistent and tastes the same.

It might just be that I don't get the Downriver scene, or it might be that the decor reminds me of that 1960's ranch house I regrettably never grew up in-- fake wood paneling, laminate tabletops, slightly grimy carpet- but Roma, while decidedly a quality hometown kind of place, is decidedly not home-cooked quality. Watery pasta sauce that tastes closer to ketchup than marinara. Overcooked pasta, where a dish is an un-artfully prepared moosh of sugary sauce and smooshy pasta. You know, forget the onions, peppers, basil-- let's forget the idea of any kind of basic, ten second garnish, no cracked pepper, nothing that would let this thing taste distinguishable from Rice-A-Roni or ketchup mixed with french fries with an immersion blender- let's just mix sugar in with a can of Hunt's and throw it on some penne that's been sitting in boiling water for about 15 minutes. In the entryway, a sign advertises freshly-breaded fish. Freshly-breaded, you know-- but as to when it was caught, one can only guess. It's cash only, which I'm usually skeptical of, but the prices were pretty good-- we had two pasta dishes, soup, and three glasses of wine ($3.50 apiece) for $43 including a generous tip, and that also got us an additional four meals in takehome (you pay 30% more than you'd like to pay, but you also get 3 times more food than you need; surplus equals savings!). The atmosphere was pleasant and lively with a charming, all-ages local crowd, and the service was great-- not only did they frequently refill our waters (one of my primary litmus tests) but they also were attentive and pleasant. Not going back, but it was just about worth the experience.

This place is a joke. They call themselves a business, but refuse to do business or provide service to people. I tried to have a small party there and they were so unwilling to accommodate us. We ended up taking our business elsewhere. They are rude on the phone and were jerks the entire time. I had eaten there before and was never happy with their services, but this is the straw that broke the camel's back. Never eat here or do any business with them ever. Huge disappointment

Roma's pizza came highly recommended to me with a warning about the "sweet sauce." My boyfriend warned me that people tend to love...and I mean love it or hate it. I wasn't sure how I would like it. Normally, I prefer a savory tomato base, but my first taste of a Roma's jumbo pizza changed my mind at first bite. Walking into the old school restaurant, there was an abundance of signs instructing people how to pay - cash only (but there is an atm) and how not to sit (parties not welcome), but I'm guessing these are a result of some folks trying to treat the family establishment as a party zone verses a dining destination. The only advice I have is to get cheese to the crust and extra sauce....and get extra to eat cold the next day.

I grew up in Wyandotte and had this pizza several times a month. By far my favorite pizza of all time. Since moving away, I haven't had it in a few years. I ordered a carryout last Sunday and it's not the same. It used to be EPIC, now just nothing more than ordinary. The sauce was watery and the cheese was super rubbery. It's just simply an overpriced knock off of what used to be the best. terrible changes.

Updating my review. Last 2 times we have ordered from here it has been horrible. Doesn't even taste the same and I've herd they have changed owners. Could this be the reason? The pies where not cooked through, the cheese was all in the middle making it impossible to eat, barely any sauce. Just everything seemed different. The sauce tastes different, the dough. It's a shame.

The food here is really good but the people are not very friendly. Most of the time the staff seems grouchy. Its cash only which is also a pain. They also seem to have a lot of little rules...no putting tables together, no balloons, no decorations, no parties. I would give 4 stars except for the almost adversarial atmosphere.

Pizza without sauce? Read on, horror fans... My pizza arrived WITHOUT sauce. Seriously! Who forgets the sauce?! It is one of very few mandatory components of a pizza. The level of incompetence here is staggering. The waitress was utterly unapologetic, "Yeah, well, it probably dripped out in the oven", she said with her disinterested eyes half closed. Utter nonsense. Anyway, I was offered no apology, no new pizza, no free dinner, no discount and no offer to simply put some sauce on this ridiculous pizza. I left feeling abused and indignant. AVOID THIS PLACE all ye who value good service. Show them what happens to restaurants who treat customers so poorly. And the place was empty. Take it as a hint. Roma's, for heaven's sake get it together and hire some decent people!

Scenario: My wife and I walk into Roma's Pizzeria on Eureka. We orderd a salad and a pizza. 35 min later, I inquire as to the whereabouts of our pizza. The server goes on the hunt for the pie, checking the ovens and asking the cooks as to its whereabouts. She returns and tells us "8-10 more minutes" I told her to forget the pizza and give me the bill for the salad with "sweet Italian" dressing (they must have a wheelbarrow of sugar in the back because there was so much sugar in this dressing I could have done table side pulled sugar sculpture with it). The table behind us said their food took over an hour. Upon cashing out, I was told their pizzas usually take 30-40 minutes because they are "home made" I inquired as to weather or not they were waiting for the tomatoes to ripen on the vine to make sauce for each pizza. Perhaps they are harvesting soft summer wheat and making dough "ala minute" Talk about an excuse for a lazy, slow kitchen staff. Will not patronize this establishment again. Also, when you walk in, there is a wall full of signs telling the customer what they can't do CASH ONLY!, DONT MOVE THE TABLES, ETC, ETC. Not a good first impression.

Great Pizza with a sweeter sauce than other places. We ordered the Romas special which consisted of pepperoni, hamburger, bacon, cheese, green pepper and onion. It was wonderful! The house italian dressing is also on the sweeter side. It reminds you of a poppyseed dressing with its thickness and sweetness with oil and italian seasonings mixed in. The decor is a bit outdated and they need to get out of the 80's and accept debit and charge cards. They do however have an ATM in the Restaurant for convenience.

I've only had carryout pizza at Roma once, and that was enough for me to know that I never wanted it again. They make pizza Sicilian style. Jenny W.'s suspicions are true; they put sugar in their sauce. But way too much sugar. In fact, it was close to inedible. I'm just not a fan of Sicilian cooking. Way to ruin the sauce Roma! Though it was priced fairly, I should've went to Pia's. At least they don't have a mucky sauce on their pizzas. If you're into Sicilian style pizza, then this place would be for you. I'll be staying far far away from Roma though.

I'm 43 years old. I was 41 when I walked in the door. ...You sit down on valentines day and sometime around st Patricks day your server will come to the table. Around Easter your drinks will arrive and she will take your order. Might as well go w something Mexican becuase you'll get your pizza on cinco de mayo. You get to spend the next few months talking about how lucky they are that the pizza is good. Consider yourself lucky if you get out of there without the prices changing becuase of inflation.

Absolute family favorite for as long as I can remember. The pizza is amazing and you can definitely tell that the toppings are fresh and of good quality (and they don't skimp on them either!). At times, the service/waitstaff can be a bit sketchy and they don't take credit card, which is sometimes a hassle. Great meat ravioli, too! Steaks are pretty good as well...but don't expect the prettiest presentation. Also, the house Italian dressing is amazing! That is all. UPDATE: I went here again (YAY!) and met up with some family for a quick lunch before they went to their movie...I mentioned to the waitress that they were in a hurry so I would be ordering and she mentioned that you can always call ahead and place your order and show up accordingly. ALSO, they deliver now!! Waitstaff is still sketchy.

Delicious Sweet Sauce. That's the first thing you will notice with Roma's Pizza. The second will be the glop of cheese! The combination or sweet pizza sauce and the mozzarella cheese is fantastic and addictive. I have probably eaten more Roma's pizza then any other pizza in my life. They have an $17 jumbo pizza special that is my crowd's favorite during Football season or any type of a party we have. This pizza is huge!! The box it comes in can fit a small child. Now the pizza is nothing unique. It won't be a pizza you want to take a picture of and post it on Foodspotting site. It's boring looking pizza. Dough, Sauce, Cheese. That's it. However, the taste is unique. The sauce is awesome. There's another great item in their menu that many people might not have tried. Their House dressing for their salad! This dressing is like an italian dressing but sweet. Hmm... I'm guessing they use sugar for everything here. The dressing is tasty. Not a fan of their salad but I sometimes get it just for the dressing. Now it' not going to get 5 Stars from me because sometimes the service is not always great there. The decor inside isn't anything special. Cash Only but they do have an ATM. I rarely dine in but not the best place dining in.

I've visited Roma's many times...but I vow to never visit Roma's again. Their food is average, their service is horrible. A friend and her family is going through an absolute tragedy -- they had been meeting friends at Roma's for a quick bite to eat and to talk with friends. They picked Roma's because they had many happy memories there -- including pre/post football game meals, junior high athletic banquets ... I don't think Roma's was chosen for these events because it had 5 star food, their food has always been average. But they had great service. Not so any longer. Essentially a recent widow and his son and daughter (and their spouses and some friends) had met at Roma's multiple times to talk through services, to talk about happy times, and to console each other. The Roma's staff knew this family and knew what they were going through. On the last visit to Roma's a large salad was ordered. The waitress did not mention that a large salad could feed about 12 people (there were only 4 people there on this occasion). That's OK, someone said they'd take it home and have it for lunch the next day. All they needed was a to-go container and a to-go container for the dressing (which was already on the table). The manager came over and explained that they would be charged extra to take the food home. The more the family thought about this as they finished the meal, the more frustrated they got -- how many times do you go out to eat and take leftovers home? So they asked again why they were going to be charged $1.00 for the to-go container to take salad dressing ... they were told it was just their policy and that they wouldn't budge on it. It's not about the $1.00 - -it's about the poor customer service, especially for a returning, grieving customer. The family asked to talk with the owner -- they were told to come back the following Wednesday. When they did just that, the manager called the police and had them escorted off the property. The owner either has a very rogue staff that is doing his business a great disservice or he is complicit in these actions and has zero sense of customer service. Please think twice when considering taking your business to this establishment. There are many other great pizza places in the area, that have much, much better service. Here's a link to a facebook group about the events: facebook.com/groups/1466…

Good pastas and pizza. If you don't like sweeter sauces this is really not the place for you. It is a good value for the money but don't forget to bring cash as that's all they take. The do offer delivery to a limited area if you're into that. Again cash only. Good for a group or a couple. Service is usually good. Some weeknights it seems the servers have their friends come in and hang out. As long as you don't mind that you are fine. Pros: Good dishes for the money, open later than some other restaurants, delivery or carry-out available. Cons: Cash only

Perhaps we were rude, unclassy, whatever you want to call it, but this absolutely isn't a fine dining place but a local dingy pizza joint. Mind you, this is my pre-Yelping days, so I couldn't research the food served here. We asked for a small sample of tomato sauce before ordering a pizza. The waitress looked uncomfortable...We don't want to criticize her per se, but the possible chef/owner in the back. All we asked for was a very small bit...a teaspoon even...and we've done this several places with absolutely no problem as we don't want to order a whole pizza to take one small bite only be disappointed by the sweetness of the sauce and trash the rest. The waitress came back saying the sauce is sweet and refused to give us anything to try. Had she been given the permission to let us a sample the sauce and it was sweet, we would've tried other things on the menu that didn't include tomato sauce. We were angry and left the place with the owner (or manager) saying something under his breath and the rest of the establishment scowling at us. I wonder if we did order a pizza and took a tiny bite and didn't like it, would we have to buy the whole thing? I guess this place expects you to take the chance...customers are not key here...$ is, but we understand...somewhat...the economy is not great...but they need to understand, customers are watching their $ too.

Not sure what that dude Michael is talking about but this place is hands down the best pizza in the downriver area and for that matter probably the entire metro area. You can't beat the price, size, and taste of this true pizzara. If you are in the mood for pizza, PLEASE give this place a try. You will not be disappointed. Only thing that you need to be aware of is that this place only takes cash. ATM on-site if you need cash. But for $20 you'll eat like a king. Enjoy...

The first problem about this restaurant is that they ask you for smoking or non-smoking and it's just one room anyways!! You walk through the smoke to get to your table and it really doesn't matter. I'm not a smoke Nazi but I do enjoy eating without having the strong smell of smoke in my food! You can wait here over an hour for your pizza as you watch carry outs go out the door. None of the staff cares and they seem to be afraid of the cooks, like to ask them how much longer it's going to take. If you ask for more salad dressing, they charge you, there are so many rules here... Bring cash, as they don't accept any credit cards! Just don't be in a hurry, cause if you are trying to see a movie, forget it! Pizza is ok when you get it...very sweet sauce lots of sugar in it!

I've grown up with this place being from the downriver area my family and I would eat here often and the service was always great and we'd never had a problem before. Fast forward to today, I'm an adult now and I wanted to show my Future Husband what a great place this was. I moved over 2000 miles away and was coming back for a visit to see some family and eat some of the food I'd been missing. I'd spent so long on the flight over telling my fiance how awesome the food was here, especially the salads. When we finally get to Romas and have a seat I'm expecting everything to go perfectly. Little did I know that they are under new management that's somehow screwed everything sideways. I'm not sure why people still eat here and my only conclusion is they must not know. Their $10 dinner salads that used to feed 4-5 people now barely feed 2. Though they've become less stingy with their dressing which I suppose is a plus, the only plus. Shrugging this off as a change in the economy, we proceeded to order a pizza and a pitcher of beer to go with dinner. When they finally brought our beer it was FLAT, as in... flavored beer-water flat. We sent it back and just ordered some water, trying not to let it ruin the meal. After getting full of pizza and salad and packing up our leftovers, we headed up to check out. Only to find that they STILL charged us for the pitcher of beer. After asking the lady at the register she only said that the beer wasn't flat and we'd still have to pay for it. This was AFTER they had taken the pitcher back with NO INDICATION that we would still have to pay for it. I told her that I thought it was bad customer service to take the pitcher back without letting us know that we would still be charged, and that we would have kept it otherwise. Her response was "I can't comp it because there are cameras watching us". She also did not have a name tag on and refused to tell me her name or give me her managers contact information. This place has gone WAY down hill and all of the good reviews on here must be from a better time because Roma's is definitely not even close to a 4 star place anymore.

I went here recently on a friend's recommendation & because I heard it is a family owned restaurant. It turned out to be a very disappointing experience. The restaurant is very old, bland, & feels unclean. It was nearly empty the whole time we were there by the way, which isn't a good sign. We ordered an antipasto salad: veggies/lettuce seemed okay but a little old, the salad dressing looked old & was SICKLY SWEET & unpleasant. Also ordered a pepperoni pizza: it had pools of grease & the sauce was way too sweet (similar to the dressing). I wonder if this restaurant used to be good? I will definitely not return!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
