This is the closest I've come in the Detroit area to find my equivalent to Sansu in East Lansing. I really hate how Sansu set the bar so high that I feel as though I will never been able to find anything equal to it again. I ate here by myself on Saturday evening. The first thing that I appreciated is that the little place was packed out. Since it isn't the biggest restaurant in the world I had the feeling I was going to be waiting awhile even to just eat by myself. The other request I had that made it difficult was I was being incredibly moody Saturday. No really, I was a hormonal disaster and didn't want to sit near anybody -- ESPECIALLY at the sushi bar where I could be seated next to a random. The hostess, when I was honest with her and told her I was having an anti-people day, TOTALLY accommodated me and immediately. She not only sat me at the sushi bar, but with two seats separating me from the nearest human being. Whoohoo! I wasn't super hungry and I ordered just a spicy salmon (gotta get that Omega-3 for my heart) and a miso soup. The downside is that there is no minimum roll order to get miso or salad. If I wanted either one of those items, or both, I had to pay extra for them. That, I thought, was lame. I'm used to most places saying if you spend anywhere between $8-10 you'll get soup and salad for free with the meal. Unfortunately, my craving was raging hard and I ended up paying extra for a miso soup. I loved the roll and soup. Granted, it's hard to mess up miso, but I've been to places where it has been done. It is even EASIER to totally screw up rolls. Thankfully, they not only didn't, but it was comparable in taste to Sansu's Spicy Salmon roll. Needless to say that made me pretty giddy. I was also highly amused that the Asian chefs were speaking Spangean -- i.e. Spanish, English, and Korean hybrid. It made me laugh. The kid I talked to making my roll was also just the nicest guy. He looked like he was in his late teens, but very friendly, and not a moody teenager. The only thing I didn't like is that here it is a busy Saturday evening with every table and seat packed. Unfortunately, and I know this because I overheard the female owner talking, that she only put TWO waitresses on the schedule. Needless to say they were stressed out and there weren't enough of them for all of the table's needs. If they would have one or two more working it not only would have made the place seem less stressful, but it would have made patron turnover quicker. I actually heard the two waitresses tell the chefs to slow down because they were making food faster than they could get it to people. I don't blame the staff at all, but the owners for this. That's not a good way to run a business -- burning out your wait staff. I will for sure be going back when I'm in the downriver area.

I must be getting old. I really thought I had written a review of Black Pine Tree last year. My intent today was to update that review. Oh well. So here's my take: pretty good sushi (full disclosure: I am a sushi novice). We ordered California rolls, cucumber/avacado rolls, and a tempura California roll. The food was tasty and fresh. That is why we returned. So why three stars? The service left a fishy taste in my mouth. The staff was short, not generally helpful, and impatient. My thought: sushi is still new to most folks. Being helpful and patient would seem to improve the staff's personal bottom line. That said, my eldest daughter likes this place so much that service aside, we'll return. That's my sushi novice, service expert take on Black Pine Tree.

I absolutely loved the Obama roll, had to say that first. The other rolls we got were okay, rainbow roll, bahama roll, but just ok. They've recently moved locations and do not yet have their liquor license, so no wine or sake. Wouldn't be my first choice, but it wasn't terrible.

I have eaten at many many many sushi places over the years and Black Pine Tree never disappoints. I like it even better now that they have moved to their new location; keep up the good work!

Haven't been here in awhile but went quite a bit when it first opened. The staff was very good and the sushi was consitently tasty but the regular menu dishes were very lacking in taste and exicution.

My opinion is definitely the best sushi downriver. Service has always been friendly and attentive. I've also found the chef will sneak in a free item or 3 depending on how busy they are, what you order etc. I somehow lucked out when ordering today with my sister. We got 4 extra maki sushi rolls. And then 2 extra pieces of the crunchy soft shell crab rolls. NICE! As far as recommendations, I have never had a bad scallop nigiri there. Also a big fan of the crunchy tempura crab roll. Delicious. The yakitori chicken is definitely a great appetizer to share. Downside? Can quickly get very pricey. But this tends to be true of most sushi places.

Got take out here yesterday - really enjoyed my sushi. The one thing that was really weird was the whole atmosphere of the place when I was waiting for my order. It was around 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and the place was practically dead. The staff, too, seemed practically dead. Okay, maybe just comatose. I swear I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for three rolls of sushi, and there was like nothing else going on in the place. The staff barely made eye contact with me, and never even asked my name. When my order was finally ready, the person who originally took my order finally seemed alive when he asked me if I wanted soy sauce and chopsticks. Tres weird.

One of the best Sushi places downriver! Their Angry California roll is delicious. I stop here for carry out probably just as much as I eat inside. While the staff is always friendly, a few times we have waited quite a long time for our sushi.

First time visit today and I will definitely be back. My rolls were delicious! I got the tempura california roll and shrimp tempura roll. The only thing I could wish for was that the service was a little more efficient. We were the only table for a while and it took our order just as long to come out as the table who came in 15 minutes after we did. Now I only mention this because it was during a work lunch break and I had to be back within a specific amount of time. I don't get many opportunities to get sushi as my husband really isn't a fan, but I will definitely be back with my friends!

I've been here twice now, only because I was given gift certificates. Downriver sushi places are few and far between, and this one seems to be the "older" one. I've been told it used to be fantastic before the main sushi chef opened his own restaurant somewhere else. Rolls are "okay," nothing to write home about, but not as bad as Kroger or the ever-awful "Oh Sushi" in Dearborn. I can say that the rolls are filling--they seem to serve larger rolls here than other places, which I can't complain about. Place usually seems to be quiet and slightly empty. They actually have more "American" desserts on the menu, which is unusual. They weren't that bad, but very clearly something defrosted and not homemade ;) If you're Downriver, it's something to do for sushi... but you'd be better off just hopping on the 94 to go to Ann Arbor, or even trying some local Chinese buffets. You'll get about the same quality for a cheaper price.

This is my 'to go' spot when I feel like getting some sushi. Good food, good prices and a kind staff. It's best to go here around lunch time because there aren't many people, they get pretty busy around dinner.

Pro: this place is great dining inn, everything is fresh and taste great. CONs: placing carry outs, don't bother, several times now that nothing has been fresh.

I gave this place a second try because the first time I wasn't totally pleased. The first go round I felt the sushi wrap was a little chewy and the sushi was not wrapped very tight. So I gave it a second try and I was a lot more pleased with the sushi wrap this time around however I must agree that for 2 times in a row the sushi was not rolled very tight. To the point of when I picked up my sushi, the sushi fell apart, now that doesn't take away from the fact that the sushi is still pretty good. But I can only speak for California rolls, shrimp tempura and shrimp rolls- I haven't decided to venture out to broader sushi options yet. I placed a carry out order and I have sat in the dining area on one occasion both times service was very efficient and staff was pleasant. Pricing is on the ok side-I have had cheaper priced-good sushi before but for the area and not to have many sushi options in the downriver area the prices are ok. The last downfall for me was the side of spicy mayo. The very small container of spicy mayo was $1.50, the mayo is good but a little on the pricey side.

I work around the area and I was looking for good healthy food and found this place. A serene environment, clean( very important), and good service. I loved the sushi and the plum wine. I would recommend this place anytime and I am definitely going back soooon.

This is my folks' go-to place for sushi takeout. A while back I went with my Mom to get our order (and they always order way too much!), and we arrived about 10 minutes early. I showed her that chatting it up with the sushi chef can be fun...and poof, out came a free crunchy crab hand roll for each of us while we were waiting! Now, she always arrives early to talk with her pal Mr. Choi and eat free tasty tidbits. They particularly like the Black Pine Tree Roll (deep fried multi-fish roll with eel sauce), mushroom roll and any of the specialty California rolls. None of these are woo hoo to me but I'd eat some if it was in front of me.

Black Pine Tree is a cute, quaint little sushi restaurant tucked in a little strip mall. I remember being very happy when this place opened because there wasn't a decent place to get sushi Downriver. I heard that O'Samauri is awesome, so I'll have to go there next time. I ordered the Rainbow Roll, which is basically a California Roll topped with: Tuna, Salmon, Red Snapper and Yellow tail. It was pretty tasty, but I've had better. I think the chef saw me snap a picture, because he immediately offered me a free roll. It wasn't that great, but it's the thought that counts. I guess I wasn't too enthused after eating here. I've been to so many great Sushi places that this was kind of like Sushi 101 for me. I just wanted to give this place another shot so I could Yelp it.

I honestly was going to live my entire life without eating... *gulp*.... sushi. That is until I was forced to reach deep down and pull from my inner asian! LOL. I am an absolute sushi fanatic now, but don't tell anyone that I haven't ever tried the raw delicacies. Ick. I'll stick to the imitation! Ha! Ha! Black Pine Tree is a small restaurant with a sushi bar to sit at and tables for dining. They don't have the best decor and could use a little updating, but heck, I still love this place! The miso soup is great, the salad is eh, but the seaweed salad is soo yummy!!! Monday during lunch they have 15% off your sushi bill and my favorite humpday special is All you can eat California roll for like $10 or something crazy like that. I have also had them make the platter of the all-you-can-eat 1/2 california roll and 1/2 california tempura roll. If you like spice, try their orange hot chili sauce! It's so smooth, but burns your lips with flavor!! I get take-out all the time!

Back Pine Tree is a tiny little sushi / noodle joint tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. It easily fills up on weekends, but you can usually get a table with only a few minutes wait. Their sushi is fantastic, as is their wait staff. They offer japanese staples such as edamame, agedashi tofu, tempura, etc and it's all very reasonably priced and very tasty. They also offer a few noodle soups and a few meat selections. The star of the menu is the quality sushi. I've never been disppointed by a visit to BPT and I've been a few dozen times in the last year and a half...

This is the place I've turned to for sushigoing purposes during visits to the area over the past two years. Sadly, Black Pine Tree's sushi has gone way, way downhill in recent months (--perhaps due to a change in chefs?). At first, everything was lovely: great miso soup, simple salad, perfectly scrumptious and well-put-together sushi and sashimi. Now, the maki sushi's laughably bad: lopsided, falling apart, tiny (or too-big, from being disproportionately stuffed with one ingredient).. Just, blatantly careless, blatantly sloppy -- The three (three!) times I ended up visiting during a stay in September, any maki rolls involving cucumber had pieces shooting out in all directions, spilling over, twice as long as they needed to be.. Is it really that hard to cut cucumber to size? :(

Best sushi you can get downriver! The service is good and the atmosphere is pretty nice. The lunch boat is a great deal and they also do an all you can eat California roll special on Wednesday's. Do yourself a favor and order the bahama roll, a surprisingly awesome taste!

Update: I'm modifying my review to four-stars. I've been to this place several times more recently and the quality of the food has improved from what was already good to now very good. Recommended! While this place isn't much to look at, they do have some very good food for the price. For a Japanese meal during a "night on the town" I couldn't recommend this place; no there are good places in Novi and Royal Oak for that. But I will often drop in and sit at the sushi bar and have a nice tall Asahi with some tuna and octopus. The quality is very even and quite good. In fact the sushi can often be better than more expensive places. Prices are reasonable. Some items I feel are overpriced (given their market it's no surprise that the tempuras cost what they do) but in general the prices are fair; not exactly cheap, but less than many places. If you're in the mood for Japanese then Black Pine is a good choice, but don't come expecting much more than good food and decent service.

Since 2000 I've lived on the west coast in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Seattle where the Sushi is always fresh. Honestly I've been spoiled by the many great Sushi restaurants in these areas including the restaurant I worked at in 2001. When in the middle of the country I normally stay away from Sushi for a couple of reasons. One day last year I was really craving Sushi while visiting my parents but was skeptical of any sushi restaurant in the area where my parents live. While running an errand for them I came across Black Pine Tree in Southgate. So I quickly looked up some reviews via my iphone apps and decided to give it a shot based on those reviews. Well they were right. Fresh, not over-priced and ok service. The best part is the California roll is made with real crab. I use this has a standard for my Sushi restaurants as I prefer real crab to the ground up cole slaw looking crab they put in alot of California rolls. Every roll and Sashimi was well prepared didn't fall apart and was tasty. Since my first visit I have been back once and plan to go back often when I am in the downriver area. update. ****Well I went back and it wasn't nearly as good. There wasn't a good cohesion of the rice to the roll so it fell apart quite easily. The service was still just ok.

Had I reviewed this place a few years ago, I would have given it 5 stars. Today, it gets 3. Where do I begin? It is pretty good sushi (A-OK), and it is virtually the ONLY sushi place downriver. Some people will say that there are other places in downriver to get sushi, but People, you should never eat sushi from a Chinese buffet - it is neither Chinese food nor buffet food! Got it? Good! I really love their green tea (small detail). Their miso soup is very good. Their salad is a little watery (they should invest in a salad spinner). In all honesty, you do get 5 star sushi (sometimes). It just all depends on who is making it. Ben is my favorite sushi chef and I am not so sure he is there anymore - (he wasn't there the last few times I ate there). Their ton katsu is very delicious and they do have very yummy tempura as well. The decor is just bad. They have raised the prices from a few years ago and they used to have Monday Sushi Happy Hour (15% off all dine in sushi on Mondays). No longer the case - owners must have just gotten greedy.

Are you kidding me?!!! Tempura vegetable appetizer that equals to $1 a piece, which one of them was an onion so it was like a onion ring for a $1!!! And their Beef Bibimbap which they top with all of a tbsp of beef. When I complained, the response was "We ground our own beef.". So freakin what!!! Unless your feeding a mouse, 1 tbsp of beef in a dish doesnt give you the right to call the dish Beef (blank). The sushi was mediocre. So I do not recommend this place at all.

Where can you get "all you can eat" California rolls other than this place for less than $12.00?!

If you have ever gone to this restaurant - especially lately - things have changed here! They no longer have Ben - the best Sushi chef ever! He has his own place, O'Samauri on Eureka in Taylor now - went there last night and it is amazing. If you remember how great Black Pine Tree used to be - this is the place to go. Best Sushi ever and the restaurant is beautiful. Great Japanese Steakhouse. This will be my new favorite restaurant!!! No more Black Pine Tree!!! One star only because I had to mark a rating!

Black Pine Tree is yummy for lunch. The ambience and decor are not spectacular, but for lunch, all I am looking for it good sushi. My husband and I normally split the california roll platter with miso soup and the price is cheap and the food is awesome. Their miso soup is the best I have ever had.

Went there twice last week--once for lunch and once for dinner. Lunch won, hands down. We are not sushi fans (there are 4 of us), but we love Japanese food. These were not our fist visits, but we tried a couple of things that we have not had before. So, here goes: the Bibimbap was great (I know--Bibimbap is Korean, but in this region Japanese and Korean food seem to be ubiquotously (is that a word?) mixed . The mackerel was overcooked. The garlic beef was forgettable. The deep-fried tofu was amazing. And the calamari was grrr-eat. Will definitely go again and again.

Soup was very good, but the sushi seemed to have been frozen too long, I have had much better sushi in Fargo North Dakota, really wanted to like this place sense we just moved into town, but were not going to be going back.

Really good sushi, dumplings and miso soup. The bi bim bop I wouldn't get again but the sushi was delicious. Small and not very crowded but probably the best place downriver to get sushi from that I have tried so far.
It's nice to have a place downriver to get your sushi fix. Seeing as there are now 2 on Eureka, hopefully that means more will continue to pop up! Went here for lunch yesterday with my little sister. They now offer AYCE California rolls Mon-Wed (I'm assuming to compete with Sushi Kami). We had a big mix of items- edamame, soup, salad, dragon roll, and a boat. Our dragon roll came to our table with the shrimp still warm on the inside. Our boat had a great selection of samples that we could share. Chicken teriyaki, california roll, 3 pieces of nigiri, a shrimp tempura and assorted veggie tempura pieces, along with their standard "potato salad" and "cabbage with some ginger dressing on top". Everything was delicious! Our server was busy, but was prompt, kept the drinks filled, and cashed us out without needing to wait.

Best Japanese I have ever had in my life! I order steamed shrimp dumplings and a rainbow roll every time. That is a habit I need to break because there is so much other food on the menu that I have been meaning to try. This place rocks! Food rocks, service rocks, and prices rock!

Been coming here since they were located right by the redwings shoe shop. All I could say that it's one of the best places to get sushi here in the downriver area. I've never really been a big fan of sushi rolls since this is pretty much an American invention and there was a phase where I was sort of a snoot when I came to sushi rolls. You can't really go wrong with their nigiri sushi since their chef knows exactly what he/she is doing. Plus their cooked food is really good as well. From the Unagi box to their Japanese curry, it's top knotch. Their sushi rolls are actually very good. Great selection and variety, plus they have my ever so favorite spider roll. Weeeeeeeeeee!! You guys rock!! Keep on kicking ass guys! Add me on instagram @rodtorres3

Frankly I enjoy sushi and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and get the angry California roll. Hope it's good. I came here before and I got a spicy shrimp roll and it was good. Well at least I thought it was good. My mother didn't actually enjoy it but I was very into it.

Had a mad craving for sushi so I decided to call in an order at 9:27 pm. but I was waiting for my hubby to arrive home. I was told that they stop taking carry out orders at 9:30 pm but they are open until 10. This has to be the dumbest rule ever. I can see 9:45, but 9:30? I could have still walked in and been serviced for a sit down meal at 9:30. I was giving them time to get my order together since it takes them so long to do it when I go in for a sit down meal. Otherwise the food is pretty good. I just wish the time for taking orders would be extended a little, especially coming a nine month pregnant woman with a mad craving for sushi -tempura, of course. I was coming to get my food, Black Pine Tree, sheesh!!!

Solid three. I felt okay about it. At first I thought it was amazing but it didnt sit well with my my stomach. The philly roll had avacado and its salmon was really smokey. Yummy. The staff was fine. Nothing too remarkable.

If I could give this restaurant negative stars, I would. This place served the most disgusting sushi I have ever eaten in my life. First, we waited for nearly 30 minutes to receive our food. I wanted to leave after the first fifteen minutes, but my husband insisted that we wait since the reviews were so good. There was a table of four people that had ordered, and I kid you not, three tray fulls of sushi. This table of people and the sushi chef deciding to make this table a priority was the reason no one else was getting their food. After these people got their food, everyone else started getting their rolls. That is just so stupid to make everyone in a restaurant wait to get their order just because a table of four decide they want everything off the menu. We had finally gotten our order and after the first bite of my Philadelphia roll, something tasted funky and almost like there was a bacon flavor. I took the salmon out of one of the other pieces, I spit it out immediately. It was old and the bacon flavor was coming from that. How can fish have that kind of flavor? I don't know people are thinking giving this place an over the top four star rating. Too much time spent in this area to not know what decent sushi tastes like? Methinks yes.

Great for Downriver but just good in terms of the metro area. And the prices are a little whack for what you get. But the bibimbap is pretty solid.

So this is probably the best Japanese food you will get in the downriver area. The staff seems hard working and the food is pretty decent. I been here many times and I have yet to have bad service or something I do not like. The only the I will say is the price is a little on the pricey side because I've had better Japanese food. Would highly recommend though.

This is my favorite sushi spot. There is a big menu, full of specialty rolls and classic rolls. My typical order is a tempura California roll, the salmon avocado roll, and a cucumber avocado roll. I've tried plenty others, though, and they're always delicious. The service here IS minimal, but I don't find it to be offensive at all. They give you everything you need! Drinks, time to look over the menu, answers to any questions you might have, and your food. They aren't super friendly, but they aren't rude at all. They just give you your privacy at the table, which I think is nice. While this isn't the best sushi I've ever had, it gets a 5-star rating from me because it IS "as good as it gets" downriver! The food is consistently good and the atmosphere is beautiful, calming, and inviting.

Food's good-ish. Hit or miss depending on the day. Rolls tend to be loose and fall apart when picked up. Biggest issue: Severely lacking in customer service! Slow svc, 12 year olds running the place - could use a class in basic courtesy. Not good enough to put up with the poor service. I am reminded of this every time I visit and wish I hadn't. Do something about your staff and you'd have a decent restaurant.

First time visit last night...the place was packed. The wait was only about 10 minutes, however. The staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. The miso was good, in not quite hot enough. The edamame was very good. We ordered the sushi deluxe plate. There were a few news things on it that I'd never had (surf clam, and large scallop), and was pleasantly surprised. Again, the temp was a bit off. It was good, but it would have been better if it was colder. The only place the restaurant fell down was at the end of the meal. We waited quite a long time for our bill to arrive, and to be processed. I would definitely go back though.

A very good sushi place when you are looking to fulfill your sushi needs. My girlfriend and I personally felt that the Sunflower roll lacked flavor, and compared to other hand rolls we have had they were lacking as well, but the The Black Tiger Roll will make you have the eye of the tiger when you indulge on the wonderful goodness that it is. It was definitely the star of the show!

I have had takeout from this restaurant on many occasions and it is always good. Today I went in for dinner with a friend and we got 6 rolls total. Everything was great as usual but what I like to do when I eat somewhere new is ask the waitress for the most popular item. In this case it was the Obama roll. I was not disappointed, it was the best out of my entire order and will always be on my order whether it is takeout or dine in.

This restaurant is probably one of the worst Japanese restaurants in the Downriver area. I don't think the sushi chef knows how to make sushi. The rice on the sushi that we received was already off so that when you picked up the actual piece of sushi, everything fell apart. The sushi tasted pretty average and the service here is awful. I went to the restaurant when there were only a few people there. It took forever for the staff to notice that we were waiting and the wait for our sushi rolls took absolutely forever! Don't eat here unless you want below-average sushi rolls. I would suggest going to Sushi Bar in Wyandotte where you can actually see your sushi rolls being made and where the staff is more attentive.

The Chicken Teriyaki lunch/dinner is amazing! I don't eat sushi, so I stick with the chicken, but it's delicious. The rice is very good as well. My friends also say that the sushi here is out of this world.

Solid little sushi spot! Friendly staff, decent prices, delicious rolls and nigiri that are just the right size - big enough to fill you up, but not so big they are difficult to eat. Nice presentation, too. This isn't the type of place where you'd take a first date, to impress her with a fancy sushi lounge. But rather, once you have been dating that person for a month or two and you're settled into routine, Black Pine Tree would be a perfect choice to make "your spot" to go on a Sunday afternoon for something nice and relaxed. The salmon nigiri was especially tasty, and the shimp tempura roll (which I get every place I go for sushi) was one of the best I've had anywhere. Honorable mention for the scallion and whitefish roll as well.

I eat here once a year when I need gastrointestinal distress! I am serious. Unfortunately I know better than to eat here and usually take my business elsewhere. But there are times when I want a quick bite of sushi and I find myself at the black pine tree. The next day I seem to pay for it dearly as does my wife. It isn't pleasant. On the plus size I lose about 5 pounds over the next few days. Avoid this place at all costs and go somewhere else!

I was hesitant pulling up to Black Pine Tree. A storefront in a strip mall - and you're telling me the sushi is good? A local recommended it, so we braved it. Holy moly. Some of the best sushi I've ever had. We went with the salmon nigiri (always my favorite) and two specialty rolls - the Obama and the Black Tiger. Both were an incredible mix of flavors and textures. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Our water was kept filled but she didn't interrupt conversation. We were seated very quickly. All in all, a true 5-star experience!

Black Pine Tree is my local go-to sushi spot. The rolls are well made and the taste is spot-on. The presentation doesn't disappoint, either. The timing is good...I never have to wait long for anything. The miso soup, though, has been served lukewarm on more than one occasion. The staff is friendly...the host, waitress and even the chefs.

The sushi is alright. I just went to black pine tree today, and it was probably the worst service I have ever had. It took forever to get drinks, and it took almost an hour to receive sushi. The waitress I had was very pushy and rude-nice. Meaning the words she said were nice, but her tone was very rude. One thing I recently discovered was they added gratuity to the bill. I did not enjoy this, because I do not want tip a waitress for poor service. I do not recommend this place at all, and I recommend kabuki! There's one in canton, and it is worth the drive!

This place rocks, period!! The Obama roll is incredible! Also, the burning California roll is fantastic too! Great ambience and food. The staff is super friendly and the cooks are very nice.

Food is terrible! The dressing in the ginger salad is full of garlic and they give you two tofu pieces in the miso soup. The spicy tuna roll resembles spam and expect to have more than 1 server. Lastly, this is the second time they have messed up our bill so make sure you double check their work and the change they hand you.

There was nothing really extraordinary about this restaurant. Service was good. It was a tad overpriced for the quality but then again, there aren't really many downriver restaurants that serve sushi, Japanese and Korean dishes. The bibimbap was decent. If you are really craving bibimbap this may curb that craving. I really liked how much crunchy rice there was from the stone bowl. The tempura udon had ok flavor. I was expecting more tempura veggies and at least one more shrimp. They only give you one shrimp and 3 veggies. It's not bad if you are downriver but there are definitely other places outside of downriver if you want better Korean and Japanese food!

Best sushi in Wyandotte! The staff is professional and quick, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is unbeatable. My husband and I recently moved to Detroit, but we still come back here all the time!

I must say that this sushi restaurant has the best sushi I have ever tried. We got a large assortment of sushi and they were all very good. what really stood out where a couple things: the SAKE: they have a great coconut lime sake which is less filtered and very tasty and strong. The sparking sake was ultimately my favorite and up until my visit here I didn't really like sake.' SUSHI: This restaurant is very innovative as I have never seen sracha on sushi, which is a shame, but they have it on a couple of rolls here. My favorite roll was the fresh roll, made with lettuce instead of seaweed...amazing! so light and delightful APPETIZER: The seaweed salad and Octopus salad was quite amazing. The octopus was fresh and well balance. What do I mean by that? it was just made very well. I recommend it STAFF: the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. DECOR: I would say above average compared to some of the sushi places I've gone. I would compare it to Little Tree in Royal Oak. PS I live in Royal Oak and I would go there any time I feel like having really good and innovative sushi.

Nice storefront place, but a tiny dining room. EXCELLENT sushi and tempura. Great place to order take out for dinner.

Visiting Detroit on a work trip, we found this spot near the hotel. The appearance almost turned us away... tucked in the middle of a small stripmall. We decided to give it a try and were extremely glad we did. The sushi chef took very good care of us and the sushi was excellent. We ate there twice during our trip. Very highly recommended.

(3)Lauren M.
I absolutely loved the Obama roll, had to say that first. The other rolls we got were okay, rainbow roll, bahama roll, but just ok. They've recently moved locations and do not yet have their liquor license, so no wine or sake. Wouldn't be my first choice, but it wasn't terrible.
(3)Amy H.
I have eaten at many many many sushi places over the years and Black Pine Tree never disappoints. I like it even better now that they have moved to their new location; keep up the good work!
(5)Emma C.
Haven't been here in awhile but went quite a bit when it first opened. The staff was very good and the sushi was consitently tasty but the regular menu dishes were very lacking in taste and exicution.
(2)David W.

Tres weird.
(3)Beth K.
One of the best Sushi places downriver! Their Angry California roll is delicious. I stop here for carry out probably just as much as I eat inside. While the staff is always friendly, a few times we have waited quite a long time for our sushi.
(4)Lisa M.
(4)Sip C.
(3)Ann Q.
This is my 'to go' spot when I feel like getting some sushi. Good food, good prices and a kind staff. It's best to go here around lunch time because there aren't many people, they get pretty busy around dinner.
(5)Brian H.
Pro: this place is great dining inn, everything is fresh and taste great. CONs: placing carry outs, don't bother, several times now that nothing has been fresh.
(2)Niecee R.
(3)Ade A.
I work around the area and I was looking for good healthy food and found this place. A serene environment, clean( very important), and good service. I loved the sushi and the plum wine. I would recommend this place anytime and I am definitely going back soooon.
(5)Liz R.
(3)Jess D.
(3)Katie W.
(4)Raphie B.
(4)Kat R.
(2)Austin L.

(3)Sandra B.
(3)bo c.
(1)Linda V.
Where can you get "all you can eat" California rolls other than this place for less than $12.00?!
(4)Sharon W.
(1)Lori H.
Black Pine Tree is yummy for lunch. The ambience and decor are not spectacular, but for lunch, all I am looking for it good sushi. My husband and I normally split the california roll platter with miso soup and the price is cheap and the food is awesome. Their miso soup is the best I have ever had.
(4)Laura M.
(4)Kevin B.
Soup was very good, but the sushi seemed to have been frozen too long, I have had much better sushi in Fargo North Dakota, really wanted to like this place sense we just moved into town, but were not going to be going back.
(2)Janice K.
Well if good sushi is what you're looking for, then this is the place! I get carryout here atleast 3 times a week and never been disappointed! : -) yummy!
(5)Ping A.
The only authentic Japanese place in the Downriver...their food is delicious!!!!! I've been here so many times and the owners are very friendly all the time. Highly recommended!
(5)Christine Z.
Really good sushi, dumplings and miso soup. The bi bim bop I wouldn't get again but the sushi was delicious. Small and not very crowded but probably the best place downriver to get sushi from that I have tried so far.
(4)Sara F.
First glance, strip mall sushi... Walk in, realize that they moved to a bigger location for a reason. Busy, but not an over crowded feel. Got the Chicken Tempura appetizer, quite tasty, but for the price, would have been nice to get more than 2 strips of chicken among the veg. I got a Spicy California roll & a Kamikaze, we're both fresh & FAB. Fiancé got Bulgogi, huge portion & very flavorful. Good food & service, no complaints here!
(4)Crystal R.
(4)Diehly D.
Best Japanese I have ever had in my life! I order steamed shrimp dumplings and a rainbow roll every time. That is a habit I need to break because there is so much other food on the menu that I have been meaning to try. This place rocks! Food rocks, service rocks, and prices rock!
(5)Rodrigo T.
(4)Austin R.
Frankly I enjoy sushi and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and get the angry California roll. Hope it's good. I came here before and I got a spicy shrimp roll and it was good. Well at least I thought it was good. My mother didn't actually enjoy it but I was very into it.
(4)Smith J.
Greeted very well at the door. Seated promptly. Menu and specials explained very well . I ordered a miso soup and all you can eat Cali roll and the soup was very good perfect temperature...definitely coming back here again
(5)Alexis B.
(2)Linda S.
Solid three. I felt okay about it. At first I thought it was amazing but it didnt sit well with my my stomach. The philly roll had avacado and its salmon was really smokey. Yummy. The staff was fine. Nothing too remarkable.
(3)Katie B.
(1)Rebecca C.
Always amazing sushi & the waitstaff is wonderful:) everytime we eat here they always help us decide what roll to get:) great atmosphere & a fun place to eat:)
(5)Erica M.
Great for Downriver but just good in terms of the metro area. And the prices are a little whack for what you get. But the bibimbap is pretty solid.
(3)Anton A.
(4)Haley R.
(5)Casey O.
(3)Angie E.
(4)Blane T.
(4)Rafi J.
(5)E C.
(1)Erika S.
The Chicken Teriyaki lunch/dinner is amazing! I don't eat sushi, so I stick with the chicken, but it's delicious. The rice is very good as well. My friends also say that the sushi here is out of this world.
(4)Carole H.
