I travel all across the United States and spend plenty of time in Philly. I've enjoyed Pat's and Geno's several times and just recently got introduced to wit or witout cheesesteaks. I consider myself a cheesesteak connoisseur. The best cheesesteak you can EVER get is from J's Cheesesteaks in Allentown,PA. Ziggy's was HORRIBLE! At 1:30pm there were just a few people in the store most waiting for there food. I waited 5 minutes before one of the two girls finally took my order. I ordered a #1 without onions, with cheesewiz. 10 minutes later they called my number. As I approached the counter my first impression was WOW, where's the meat! I sat down and picked up the cheesesteak and the roll fell apart in my hand. I put it back together as best I could and took a bite...YUCK! this tasted like a cheesewhiz sandwich!! Lack of meat and overuse of cheesewhiz made this cheesesteak uneatable! I threw it away. Sorry Ziggy's, never again!

Cheesesteaks: yes, Yes, and more yes. Fries: Yuuuuuuuup. I don't know what people have against this place, or perhaps maybe things were different on the day I went, but I had zero problems with getting served in a timely manner, getting my order taken, getting the right order, or any of the other issues I've seen noted here...and I was here at peak lunch rush time.

Not prepared for lunch rush- took 30 min to get a sandwich at noon on a Friday. Would not recommend unless you have time to waste. The sandwich was pretty good though and the people are friendly.

Stopped by Ziggy's for lunch today to find out that they are NOW OUT OF BUSINESS !!! They opened in October 2010 so it was a surprise to me since they were in business for a while. I thought their cheese steakes were decent. Joey's in Southgate is one of my favorite cheesesteak places but I don't get out to that side of town that often.

Was really excited about trying this place out. I never see cheesesteak sandwiches around here done in true Philly style. So I went there only to find that they are no longer in business. There is a bbq joint coming soon in this location. I really could of gone for a cheesesteak:(

it's not there anymore it's closed

Just waited 33 minutes and payed $22 for two sandwiches and a burnt fry. Food tastes like rancid oil and the sandwich is all bread. Nothing like a philli. More like nasty on wonder bun. The kid behind the counter and the guy taking orders aren't even communicating. This place is a DISASTER. Do not go!!!

I was hoping for a good experience similar to my fav out in San Diego, Gaglione Bros. Waah, waah, waah. No such luck. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak with green peppers and onions combo with onion rings. Dine in please. I'll get back to the food in a minute. The dining room was in decent shape. I'd like to see a condiment table where I can get hot peppers, mayo, etc. All of the condiments are either handed out from behind the counter or on the tables. Nothing for take out folks or if you prefer not to bother the busy staff. Oh and napkins. Why are they so hard to find? 2 tables didn't have any in their dispensers and the ones at the counter and the pop station were empty. And it looked like that was intentional. Okay, so I get my order in a bag not on a tray. I saw this happen to the 3 before me too. They were nice enough to take it out and put it on the tray. I imagine after doing this a few times it adds up to a bunch of waste. Maybe fix this. I'm not basing my review on these items btw. Alright, the food. Yuck. The chicken tastes mealy. Like old mealy cooked chicken. The peppers were over powering and didn't seem to be cooked well with the onions. Way too much bread. It was soft, which I like, but huge. I really wanted this to be better and I think they can be.

Not gonna lie - I have been to both Pat's & Geno's in South Philly (both on the same night), and if this place was anywhere near there it would not get 4-stars from me. But let's be real - not many places in the "D" really set out to make their version of the Philly Cheese-steak - so I still give these guys kudos for having a dedicated spot just for The Almighty Cheese-steak. Let's start with the "good." I got their 9-inch #2 South Philly, the way I like it wit grilled onions and Whiz (Cheese Whiz) on a white Italian hoagie roll. They offer wheat but you don't wanna do that on your first visit. The sliced rib-eye was tasty, not heavenly. Not overly greasy like in Philly but I suppose that's intentional if they want repeat customers and not just one-hit wonder touristy eaters. Also, there is a supple amount of meat but not loaded in there like in Philly. The amount of cheese was a little lacking - I believe in favor of keeping the sandwich dry to the touch and not too messy to eat. They don't mind that in Philly. The meat had a few fatty pieces that most would spit, but I swallowed. The fries with Whiz are awesome - they make a great fry here. The meat, Whiz, grilled onions all mesh well to form that trifecta - producing just the minimum amount of cheese-steak juiciness the wax paper can catch. The "bad" is simply that nothing about the cheese-steak really stands out here. It's a good cheese-steak but only one that Will Smith or Rocky balboa would scoff at. Then again, they don't have to settle for a Southfield cheese-steak so who cares? The "ugly" is that the place has a real corporate feel inside. In one way it's nice because it is very clean, unlike any urban sandwich shop. And I am sure that's what keeps them having loyal lunch traffic. But the seating inside is kind of awkward and uncomfortable - it is obvious they are presenting it as an ideal take-out joint. Very minimalistic decor and corporate vibe inside. I mean the framed pictured of downtown Philadelphia is not only cliche but you can practically see the JCPenney tag hanging from it. Stock photo on the frame is Philly!? Score! Overall - I give this place a generous 4-stars because I am a cheese-steak sandwich lover and to have a place dedicated to it like this in the D and follow some basic "authentic" guidelines on making it is very much appreciated. I don't pass through Southfield while starving often - but when I do I will think of Ziggy's! Also the pricing is very fair. Hungry? Expect to pay around $8 give or take. Starving? Maybe $10'ish. I recommend you at least try this place.

Came in for a quick lunch w my 3 year old daughter. At first we planned on taking it to go, but little mama wanted to sit so we did. I ordered a # 5 basically a steak sub w mushrooms and onions w seasoned fries and a pop. It tasted okay. Kinda dry as my sauce was put on the side, but fine. Until I saw the long brown strand of hair in my food. My eyes instantly shifted to the woman behind the counter, cooking w no hair net. I took it right up to her and she promptly began to make me a new sandwich. until a blond, I'm assuming her sister began to huff about what was wrong w my food. I was a bit passed because if I was trying to get over on them I would have asked for a refund, but I'm not picky. I just want edible good food. I received a new sandwich on wheat not white, but like I said I'm not picky. Overall I have to give them a 2, and the only reason they're getting that is because of the nice lady trying to remedy the mess up. Hair in the food is just nasty, and it took away my appetite.

I visited Ziggy's today for the first time and ordered a cheesesteak with provolone, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and green peppers along with fries and a fountain drink. All the fountain drinks were either very flat or running clear(out). I told the employees this and they said the CO2 needed to be changed. They didn't offer me a bottled drink to compensate. I ended up throwing the drink away before I left the store(ordered carry-out). The fries with cheeze wiz were nice and hot though they tasted like Rally's fries. My disappointment lied with the sandwich. The sandwich was completely soggy by the time I got home and was mostly inedible. The tomatoes were so wet that they soaked the bread completely through. The tomatoes were huge instead of small and chopped up, so maybe this is why this happened. I paid 12 dollars and some change for this meal and will not be returning.

Cheese was not very appetizing, steak was tough and chewey. Long wait with nobody in the place... Fries were good though. 2 out of 5 stars
(2)Michael P.
Update... I am so glad this place closed... the food was so bad, just knowing they were still open when I passed by was a problem. For a place like this, you want good, fast service with a decent quality of food. The staff is friendly, but the steak taste old and lacks flavor. I could not eat more than three bites of my sandwich. the first bite was my first experience. The second bite was to confirm how bad the first bite was. The third bite was out of disbelief that this sandwich was that bad. Ziggy's has the cheese but the steak is the worst. If you want a cheese sandwich they can help you out.

My mom and I ordered subs the #4 and we both ordered and paid for lettuce and tomato on the sandwich. This item in which we paid for was not included on either of our subs. When they first opened they were spot on. As time has past it dwindled. Friendly staff, however, once I order I shouldn't have to remind you of what I want on the sub, that was the whole purpose in placing the order. There was another time we went and my mom ordered Onion Rings instead of fries and didn't receive them even after paying for them. I dislike being this critical on food establishments, especially when its a critical review on whether or not a condiment was placed on the sandwich. However, I worked at burger king (I know a fast food place not the same, however, still food and customer service) and when an order was placed I had to make sure I made what was order and sent out the food the way it was ordered or else it was my butt having to rush and make it again. You stay #1 by providing good customer service and excellent food. I suggest they maybe invest a screen that displays the orders instead of the receipts they pin up on the side of the grill. Speaking of food, so much bread, its like eating a roll filled with meat, peppers, and onions. Either a slightly thinner bun or add more meat to the sub. So that its not like a roll with meat in the inserted in the middle. This was a 9" sub by the way, maybe the smaller ones aren't like that. Won't be returning. Just my 2 cents.

I stopped by to check this place out after I got a mailer from them. The store was clean inside and out, and there was a couple eating outside on the patio and a few lunch breakers eating inside. I ordered a cheesesteak "wit" onions, hot peppers and provolone and a side of their fries. I opted to take it home so I could chill on the couch while I devoured my take away. I had been waiting to taste their rendition of the cheesesteak since I got their menu in the mail. I've gotta say...I really enjoyed the sandwich and the fries. Driving from Southfield back to Ferndale I was expecting the fries and the sandwich roll to be soggy. Once I got settled in and unwrapped the sandwich I was impressed to find a very meaty Philly with a perfect layer of spicy peppers and onions on top. The cheese had melted into the meat which was juicy and delicious. The fries were still warm and relatively crispy considering the delay en route. I've gotta hit this place up again to check out the other Philly styles. Definitely worth a trip in my book.

3 Stars is the best I can do here. I'm not sure why, but I was really wanting a Philly today. Since the cost to make one at home is pretty expensive, I hit Yelp. I've had Cheesesteaks at 4-5 different places in Philly. No! It doesn't make me an expert but it does give me a baseline for what to expect. Ziggy's is a bit of drive for me but I saw many positive reviews and on top of it I had a $1.00 coupon from Yelp. Away we go! I ordered a 12 inch "wit" onions, Cheez Wiz, and peppers. The order was really quick and out came 2 6 inch subs. I was expecting this amazing 12 inch floppy breaded monster to come out just waiting for me to destroy it and I got 2 6 inch subs wrapped like fast food burritos. OK not the end of the world but my dreams of a Philly day are fading. I hurried to my car and was hoping that it would be so good that I'd rip into the 2nd one and all would be right. I opened one up and it looked pretty decent-Plenty of toppings and meat. The meat is a thicker cut, not my favorite but this is a preference and there isn't anything wrong with this style, just not my favorite. I went take my first bite and the bread was really tough. In fact, the outer crust was hard to bite into and everything started falling out. Normally you could apply the "Its Sloppy Joe fun" rule but hot melted cheese and meat actually hurts. I really have no desire to eat the 2nd 6 inch. I hate wasting food but I'm going to have to keep searching.

This place is prefect for a quick lunch if your on the run. It's better then your typical corporate fast food joints. All the ingredients are fresh and the beef and chicken are grilled right before your eyes. They don't use hydrogenated oil, MSG, or processed sponge meats. It's extremely clean, efficient and beautifully decorated but not overstated. If you're looking for an authentic Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and delicious side order of fries that are made from real potatoes look no further.
(5)J S.
Well don't know how they taste as we never got our order. Staff are incompetent and lose track of orders and numbers. After waiting 30min I finally decided to get refund. Chick at the register doesn't know how to use a credit card machine so we had to do a cash refund. Waste of 30min. Not even an apology neither. Business must be great to not apologize. I will say it was quite expensivefor what you get. Just as easy to cook at home and more than half the price. Recipes on the internet of some true Philly restaurants are online.

"Meh" just about sums it up. I can't tell why Ziggy's - which appears from its web presence to be a unique, independent restaurant - has chosen to make the store look like a cookie-cutter franchise restaurant. The place is very polished and clean (all good things) but there is no character or "soul" to the place. It's basically a fast food joint that is clinging for dear life to the coattails of "fast casual" establishments like Noodles & Co. On to the food! In a word: Unremarkable. Had the #4 Green Pepper Cheesesteak with provolone. I don't know if the bread was chilled or something, but the heat of the sliced meat was not sufficient to melt the cheese until I was about halfway through the sandwich. The bread itself was pretty good - meat was OK but not great. Twice-done fries were tasty. One complaint is that the place was SLOW. All they have to do is slice the meat and put it in a sandwich, right? Apparently not. We went in with 8 people, but it was 10- 15 minutes (estimated - might have been less) before everyone received their food. Not a terrible thing, but if you're going to decorate the store like a fast food chain, that's the expectation you create - FAST. Worth a visit if you happen to drive by, but certainly not worth going out of your way for.

Disclaimer: I have never had an "authentic" Philly cheese steak sandwich. So, this review will just be about a girl who wandered in to a sandwich place next to Starbucks. I loved my #1 (meat and Whiz). Since having that sandwich, I've been looking for real Cheese Whiz, as it is pretty amazing stuff. The fries should get a 6 star review of their own. They are wonderfully crispy and delightful. I will definitely return to Ziggy's for more.
(4)Karol C.
Really great cheesesteak. Awesome for a cheat day. They even have wheat rolls. The staff is nice. Great location.
(3)Pratheep S.
This place is legit. Really good cheesesteaks if you get the cheese wiz. Must get the cheese wiz. Fries are also great. For a fast food restaurant you can't ask for more.
(5)Anonymous R.
Wasn't the best but it was definitely better than tubbys/subway/Quiznos. The bread is probably the only difference. Very nice staff, not a long wait at all at noon-I was the only customer.
(3)John Y.
My first stop here and I was pleasantly surprised. The cheesesteak tasted great. I had a bbq cheesesteak, the bbq flavoring while distinct wasn't overpowering. The bread was a bit dry for my taste but delicious. I imagine the drier bread is helpful for the extra grease a cheesesteak can deposit. The fries tasted great and while I was eating I got to try a new fry flavoring that was wonderful. I got a large combo and it was a ton of food. The restraunt looks great and they play good music. if you want a cheesesteak you can't go wrong comming to ziggy's
(4)Manda B.
I came into this resturant not planning to get anything, just coming along with someone that was eating. The smells hit me hard, I had to order something. Im a vegetarian, so I got the grilled veggie hoagie. I dont think ive ever bought a vegetarian meal anywhere that was worth this price. $4.25 for a fresh made sub. It was absolutely delicious. Onion, pepper, mushrooms and cheese all married together perfectly on their own buns. Its a little on the smallside though. Deffinetly a place to just stop in at during lunch time.
(4)Mo M.
I used to frequent this place often and LOVED it. Great food and fries. Fresh steak, real 'wiz and hot, crispy fries. However the prior owner has recently sold to a new one. Since, the quality has come down enough that I don't frequent it anymore. Not as impressed and they've messed up my order more than once. When craving cheesesteaks I'll make a run to Joeys downriver.
(2)Craig T.
Can't get a cheesesteak or anything good for that matter in this godforsaken town of Southfield, so I was pleased.
(4)Henry L.
Met here with a friend for a lunch based on the recommendation of another friend. I'm a sucker for cheesesteaks so it was a natural stop. The location is fantastic, with ample parking and next to a Starbucks (you'll need caffeine after lunch at Ziggy's). When we walked in the first thing I noticed was that the place was immaculate, as if it had just opened (but it had already been a year). The staff was attentive and patient as we made our selections. Wait time was just a few minutes, even as the place started to fill up at lunch time, a good thing to remember since it's a business-lunch heavy area. I stunned by how big the actual cheesesteaks were and was doubly sure I wasn't going to be able to finish mine (but it's fun trying). Afterwards, the owner came over to introduce himself and ask us about our experience. All in all, Ziggy's is reasonably-priced lunch time food with efficient and polite staff in a great setting and a great location. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the portions but not by the welcoming environment. Sit down or take it to go and you'll probably still end up happy. A great alternative to chain restaurants.
(4)Ferris B.
Amazing philly's!! My favorite by far is the BBQ philly 'wit' grilled onions and cheeze whiz...cant beat it. Servers are very cordial, nothing memorable, but definitely nice. Clean restauarant. Outside of subway, can't find a better deal with $5 phillys after 5 pm, something I take advantage of on my way home from Detroit on a weekly basis despite being another 15 mins out of my way. Worth it every time :)
(5)Andrea F.
As a Philly girl visiting Detroit, I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in the cheesesteak that I bought. The bread was great, as were the condiments. However, the meat was stringy and chewy, not at all like a REAL Philly cheesesteak. You guys need to CHOP, CHOP, CHOP the meat while grilling. I definitely will not be going back. Instead, go to Jimmy John's and get a hoagie. They were great! Madera, California (Formerly of Philadelphia, PA
(1)Dawn R.
When we first discovered Ziggy's a year ago it was wonderful. At lunch you could hardly get in the place. We went today and it was empty, which was my first clue that we made a mistake. There are new owners who I'm pretty sure aren't from South Philly. The drinks were flat, the fries were lukewarm and the Philly had almost no flavor. We will definitely not be going back.
(1)Kris C.
I thought this place was a franchise mill type run it through operation when I first walked in, wow was I wrong. The place is clean and precisely laid out. The guy who took my order was very nice and asked if it was my first time there. I got the #3 which was a steak with provolone and onions. The meat is real rib eye that's obvious on the first bite nice and tasty. The cherry pepper relish is very nice just enough spicy. The buns are big soft and chewy and tasted fresh. I am going to get the cheese whiz sammy next visit. I would have given it a 5 star but come on where would that put Genos and Pats. This place is definitely on my list to curb my future steak and cheese cravings. Good prices quality product and a friendly staff, nice job Ziggys.
(4)Mick M.
I wanted to be impressed. The place was clean and tidy, the decor smart and crisp. Had a #1 wit' plus provolone. The meat was decent enough, the onions had a nice sauteed finish, but the bun and lack of cheese negated those quickly. The bun I just flat out did not care for. Too chewy on the outside and too dry inside. There wasn't much in the way of meat juices to help soften it up, and I ended up just digging out the meat with a fork 1/2 way thru the sub. An average Detroit Philly at best. At least I know I don't have to make this drive again.
(3)Michigan H.
Easily the best cheesesteak I've had in Michigan. Excellent bread: fresh and slightly chewy, a great compliment to the fresh, moist meat. I get it with onion, mushrooms and the pepper relish. I'd recommend the cheez-wiz, as it's more authentic if you're really going for the Philly Cheesesteak. That being said, the provolone is good too.
(4)Anj F.
Got a coupon so decided to give it a try. I felt it wasn't really worth the price for me. You did get a ton of meat, which is worth the money but I am more of a quality, not quantity girl. I had the mushroom cheesesteak and fries. Most of the sandwich was dry meat, not many mushrooms, flavor or moisture. the fries were similiar to BK's, which aren't my thing. Over all would not go back.
(2)Tiffani H.
If you like creamy, cheesy, ooeeey, gooey, sandwiches, this is the place for you. I had purchased a coupon from groupon for $14 worth of food for 7 bucks and it was worth it. Even though I drove for 45 minutes to get here and back (I live N.E suburbs), it was still ultimately worth the drive. The ingredients are fresh, the meat is plentiful, and the cheeses are as good as it gets. Just an fyi, if you like veggies, ask for xtra xrta veggies, cause I could barely taste them over all of the good stuff packed inside. This place is also a no brainer! You don't need a ph.d in sandwiches to enjoy a Ziggy's cheesesteak. I highly recommend this sandwich shop!
(5)Bryant O.
My wife and I tried this place because we wanted to do something different, and we weren't impressed. This place is for people that are cheese steak fans, not newbies. We were newbies. One plus, they give you a lot food for the money.
(3)Matthew P.
UPDATE -- 2nd time around the sandwiches weren't nearly as good. In fact, when I brought them home they were soggy and wet. Things I'm going to be hitting up DB Coopers next time I'm having a Philly cheese craving.
(2)Nicole T.
My husband introduced me to this joint and let's just say that I have found heaven.. If ur craving a cheesesteak.. go nowhere else folks.. I've been countless times and have never had bad service or bad food.. Go.. NOW!
(5)Jenni M.
This was my second time at Ziggy's, and this time I had a chicken cheesesteak. It was very very good -- lots of black pepper on small bites of chicken breast (no artificial chicken-like substance) and cheese whiz on a nice soft bun. I just wish they would cook their onions more - they are a little underdone, even when asked for well-done. But really, this place does a remarkable job of serving Philly style steaks they way I remember them from my five years living in Philly.
(4)Vic D.
Management contacted me and apologized for the mistake. They made it good, and I'm good with that.
(4)Judie B.
Very pleasantly surprised. Wasn't sure what to expect. Had driven by many times, and this time we stopped and boy we were glad we did. I am EXTREMELY picky about steak sandwiches and the grade of meat used and I ate every single bit! No yucky stuff! Fries were good and crisp. On top of it, Ziggy's serves Coke. We will definitely return. Oh and Ziggy's please don't bow the pressure of Pepsi and EVER serve the imitation cola. You will then lose me :)
(4)Otis M.
Its okay by me, but I am a bit of a cheese steak connoisseur. All the ingredients were individually okay which stacks up to an okay sandwich. For me, the meat was a little too tough and fatty. The all important roll was not fresh and therefore to chewy. Not the worst sub, but not close to the best. My expectations for a place with cheesesteak in the businesses name were not met. They make up for mediocre quality with volume, the small sandwich is big enough.
(3)Dave M.
What coneys are to Detroit, cheese steaks are to Philly--but probably more so. Think about it-- aside from say, cream cheese, what's the first thing you think of when someone says Philly? See! It used to be though, that you had to actually go to Philly to enjoy a top notch cheese steak. To that I say, "no more". Authentic Philly cheese steaks are now conveniently dished out at Ziggy's in Southfield. In a tiny strip along Southfield Road, right around 12 1/2 mile, Ziggy's awaits you with a sign proclaiming "Born in South Philly". Walking in, the place is clean and bright, with a very pleasant smell of browning onions. Ziggy's menu features selections that make this carnivore quite happy. Cheese steaks, loose burgers, and a couple chicken sandwiches. All available "wit" or "witout" sautéed onions, and topped with--Cheeze Whiz, or the cheese of your choice. So what does it take to make an authentic Philly Cheese Steak? The bread is ultra important. And at Ziggy's, the hoagie roll achieved the perfect balance between soft center and firm (but not crispy) outer crust. Then there's the steak. Fresh thinly sliced ribeye, grilled and chopped to order. The onions need to be well caramelized, and it doesn't hurt to have a finely seasoned grill top. The end result is a one-of-a-kind flavor profile that touches on sweet, salt, tart, and well, grease (in a good way). My wife, who lived in Philly for several years, had hers wit onions and a nice helping of cheese whiz. She said this sandwich was just as good as her favorite spot in Reading Terminal Market. I had mine with BBQ sauce and provolone, and we split a large order of fries. The sandwiches tasted great, had a nice moistness to them, but the onions could have spent more time on the grill. Other sandwich add-ins include sautéed mushrooms, diced hot peppers, and even French fries, loaded right into the sandwich. Side order fries can be ordered as cheesy fries. Sandwiches come in 8" and 12" lengths. Check this place out. You won't be disappointed.
(4)Richard F.
I was in the area and was very hungry so I stopped by and while still in the parking lot I checked in on my mobile phone. Bingo! There was a deal for $ 1.50 off on a sandwich just for mentioning Yelp. So I went in and ordered a sandwich and saved some green. This time I tried the Ziggy's Special and it was good. I expected the hot peppers to be grilled, but actually they were of the marinated variety and similar in taste to the gardiniera you get at Chicago Dog places The difference was that the hot peppers were all red in color and they were very finely diced. They were a nice spicy compliment to the soft and moist meat, but I felt they drowned out the taste of the mildly flavored provolone cheese. So I think the next time I try a Special, I will ask them to substitute the Cheese Whiz for the Provolone. Weird, I know, but I think the combination of the strong taste of the ersatz cheese will compliment the strong taste of the hot marinated spicy peppers. Again, I found an 8 inch was more than enough and I had just the sandwich without the fires and got out the door darned cheap. I enjoyed my nice freshly prepared hot sandwich and appreciated the less than Mickey D's price for Yelpers.
(4)Stephanie A.
Ordered a combo with drink and fries. Staff was friendly and efficient. This is a good philly cheese steak fast food place. Unfortunately some of the details seem to be missed. I ordered take out today and two of the fountain drink options were out of order , one of the napkin dispensers was empty and there were no to go condiments anywhere to be seen.
(4)Robert W.
I'm sure if this place was a food truck or in a refurbished 1920's barbershop and the food was served by a guy with a curly mustache, all the foodies and hipsters would talk about how amazing this place is. Listen, it's a small fast serve restaurant in a strip mall bringing the taste of Philly to metro Detroit. It is what it is. It beats the heck out of Tubbys/Subway/Quiznos any day. I got the classic with onions and cheese whiz and it was a good sandwich. It wasn't the best thing I ever ate, it won't be on Food Network, but it was a nice $10 lunch. If you check in on Yelp or Foursquare, you can get $1 off or a free pop. Will I go back? Absolutely.
(4)Chuck T.
They need to get a better system of taking orders. As I waited for my food I watched the next 5 customers order and wait, and each person was asked later if their order was for here or to go, and if they had ordered fries! The receipt shows dine in so I am not sure what the issue is. The place was not busy and orders were coming out very uneven and slow.

All bread. Overpriced. If you have only one cashier they should speak english. My last review was three stars but I went back yesterday and their credit card machine didnt work, I had a fifteen minute wait because our ticket didnt print. Whats funny is the cook is standing directly behind the cashier but he didnt make our food because the ticket didnt print. I wont go here again.

Felt super corporate. The walls had minimal decor and it felt like a place to carry out from- definitely not dine in. I stopped in here for a solo lunch and it was quiet which was nice- especially if you are looking for a quiet uninterrupted lunch. Not sure if they had WIFI- I am thinking not because I was using 3G. The good: I wasn't worried about cleanliness. The food came out hot and in a timely fashion. THE FRIES! Favorite part of the meal. I would come back just for these. The bad: I ordered the original cheesteak and it was bland. The cheese was at the bottom and the amount of onions in my sandwich was enormous. Half of them fell on the floor while i was eating on accident... (My bad...) I tried to save the sandwich with mustard and franks. Nothing made it better. The steak was chewy and a few times I had to spit the fatty pieces out. It just didn't feel very authentic... I think this place has potential but I'm not sure I'll keep it in the mix for my lunch places. A sidenote: They kept advertising that they use Cheez Wiz cheese. Isn't that they spray can cheese? I debated ordering that but it just sounded disgusting.... I don't think an original Philly resident would use Cheez Wiz.

It wasn't bad. I'm a picky eater and a harsh critic of food so I may be under estimating how good it really is. I do like that they cook everything to order! That was a plus!! I must say that the fries were absolute perfection!! I do wish that the cheese was on top...I got regular cheese cause I don't like cheese whiz.

I came in here a couple times a year or three ago and was really impressed with their Philly-style cheesesteak. The #2 "Whiz Wit" (for those who understand cheesesteak vernacular) was easily the best Philly-style cheesesteak I'd eaten outside of the greater Philadelphia area. All the ingredients were authentic, no detail spared, right down to the perfect Philly hoagie roll. Moist, juicy, flavorful, delicious. The guys physically making the sandwiches didn't seem to understand the lore of the almighty cheesesteak (don't think I didn't try to chat them up about it), but the sandwiches they were making sure tasted like they did. I stopped back in recently and was really unimpressed. I ordered a #1 "Provolone Wit" and it was okay but a 2-star item at best. The roll seemed a little dry/stale and the meat was either cooked too long or not juicy enough in the first place (and not adequately chopped and mixed up with the cheese). I'm hoping they just had a bad day but if I give these guys another shot and the experience is closer to the recent experience than the early experiences, I definitely won't be back.

One of the best cheese steaks I've ever had. Good service, I think it's family owed. The staff is always super nice and helpful. I've ate there 3 or 4 times and have always been treated well and received good food.

Out running west side errands & was craving protein ! , and have heard 'Stoney' on 97.1 give it some Phillie Love It was very good! Joeys down in Southgate is the areas most authentic though

Im like a cheese steak fanatic. Ive driven to that spot in Southgate even. Forget the name offhand (ok - looked it up, Joeys, surprisingly, they were just ok). Most philly cheese steaks and spots arent very good. I really wanted to like this place since I live close by. First time I went whn they first opened I vowed never again. Decided on a second visit over a year plus later but its still the same. No more. It seems authentic but is not. Owners not from Philly. The meat looks great whn u see it cooked, but is bland whn served. The bread is not as good as I hoped. The cheese wiz is bland, cold, and not the tasty cheeze wiz I know. The onions arent diced fine enough. Skimpy on the meat since it doesnt fill the bun. Some might like this but you cant fool me. I will stick to Leftys. Gabriels is good but too far. Both are not perfectly authentic but both are damn good steak and cheese sandwich spots.

I have been to Pennsylvania, but not the city of Philadelphia. The sandwich was good. I enjoyed the amount of onions, and Chez Whiz on my sandwich. I liked that I was able to check-in to Foursquare and save $1.50 Having worked in foodservice I like that there closed on Sundays. I didn't understand why the cashier had here apple headphones in her ear white working. I suppose that casual laid back atmosphere is acceptable here. Fellow yelpers go and enjoy!

Alright, right off the bat I'm no Pete Rose and I've never been to Philly. I do love the Rocky movies though. I can't speak on the authentic side of Ziggy's as it relates to a real-deal cheesesteak... but my guess is it's too chic on Southfield Road just a stones throw from the BHC and Bev Hills Grill to be as good as the street vendors slanging the goods in Philly. But what do you want in the burbs? I will say that I prefer Ziggy's over Tubby's because of their organic ingredients. But as far as tastes goes... I'm a fan! Ziggy's is clean and the decor inside is minimal and non-threatening. It takes a while to get your order.. which is a good sign to me because that means your cheesesteak is fresh! So far I've dined in twice and had carry-out once. Dining in is the better option. Serving the sub in a huge cardboard box is a nice touch. The original Ziggy's Sandwich is very hot and spicy... kinda overtakes the flavors.. but addictive at the same time. The hoagie is fantastic.. I love it. The toppings and sauce stand out on their own without overpowering or trying to cover up the steak -- which is juicy and taste-bud-tastic! Ziggy's is a damn good value as well. You will be full from the 8" .. you and your partner can share the Footlong if need be. I'm hooked!

My first visit to Ziggy's was a little disappointing. I'm a HUGE cheesesteak fan and was really looking forward to this store opening. I'm not exactly sure when Ziggy's opened, but I know it was very recently, and that was painfully obvious when I walked in the door. Having over 4 years experience as a manager in the food service industry, as well as working three new store launches, I can quickly pick out the signs of "growing pains." I visited Ziggy's shortly after they opened for the day, around 11:15am. There were several employees behind the counter (5-6) seemingly milling around, looking confused; barely a smile in the bunch. No one greeted me or even made eye-contact with me as I stood in front of the counter for around two full minutes. Finally, one girl asked if I was ready to order. I placed my order, a philly cheesesteak "wit" onions and white american cheese, and I told her I would be dining in. I paid, waited for my food and noticed my check said "carry out." After a few minutes the grill cook, who was feverishly chewing gum, asked the cashier if this was for here or to go. After I got my food I sat down in a window seat to eat, but had to walk back across the store to get napkins - it was there I noticed that all the napkin dispensers for all the tables hadn't yet been put out. With almost half a dozen employees standing around, I would hope a manager would ensure that all details were attended to. I also noticed two of the employees with their cell phones out, one was watching a video of some sports event and the other had just finished texting. Really unprofessional as a whole. The cheesesteak was of decent quality. The bread was a little too dense and chewey, and really kind of got in the way of the filling. The meat was indeed shaved ribeye steak, but wasn't overly flavorful and was instead chewey and stringy with fat. I appreciate the intented quality of real, shaved ribeye, but in my humble opinion, ribeye is a very fatty meat and it not cooked properly you end up with fatty ribbons throughout your sandwich. I spent too much time picking fatty pieces out of the sandwich. The onions could have used more time on the grill, and they weren't uniformly sliced so some pieces were almost raw while others nicely caramelized. It's my opinion that the majority of these issues are directly related to the newness of the store, and may be remedied with more time and training. I do plan on visiting again in the near future to see if anything's changed. Most of these issues could be quickly solved if they had a more competent manager. I do say give it a shot, but I hope some of these kinks have been worked out by then.

Heard good things, but doesn't live to the hype.

Good points: The menu has changed with added sandwiches. Cool. Bad part: They no longer carry 12in. subs (nobody could really eat it all in 1 sitting, but still). Also the prices have increased by about 0.50 cents. Ziggy's now carries 6 in. and 8 in. sandwiches only. I'm not sure if I love them enough for $7.50 for a chicken sub, but I guess it is to be expected that prices do rise as the prices of staple food increase. I'm not in love with them to continue the hoagie dressing covered love affair with subs. It was fun while it lasted Ziggy's!
