Slow to point of WTF. The gumbo was average, slightly watery, and not worth $13. However the cornbread was great and the only reason I gave a 3 star.

Great new(ish) place in Southfield with lots of gluten-free and vegan options. I had the vegan tomato basil soup and a Sammie on gluten-free bread; both were delicious! Everything is handmade to order. They recommend calling ahead if in a hurry :-)

Some good stuff going on in this place. One of the tastiest dives ive eaten at in a long time. Some offerings rise to the top like cream while some sink like lead but all in all a decent place to eat.

Everything about this place is solid! The atmosphere is VERY pleasant to have lunch, the music is calm and soothing but not too loud, the staff is phenomenal and polite, and last but not least, the food is excellent. I get the same thing every week and the quality is on point every time.

Pleasantly surprised! We were looking to try a new place in the southfield area. We were hoping for place to sit down with a larger group, but this worked just fine. It's kinda like Zoup, but actually good (unlike Zoup). The salad was fresh and the apple cider vinaigrette was amazing! I opted for the Chicken Gumbo, which was just the right amount of spice. I'll be visiting again.

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Soup Dive. I purchased a Groupon for a pick two combo totaling $8. Soup Dive has a nice selection of Soups as well as Deli and hot Sandwiches. I had the turkey forest sandwich and chicken gumbo. Both were delicious! The bread on the sandwich was soo good, it was toasty with just the right amount of butter. Okay y'all, I'm talking melt in your mouth good!! They use Boar's Head Deli meet +1. The chicken gumbo was good, you won't slap ya mama over the gumbo, however it is very tasty and filling. On my next visit I plan to try the chicken noodle or salmon chowder. My mom had the grilled cheese, which she described as yummy and the tomato basil bisque. She enjoyed both. Overall the Groupon was an excellent deal. I will be back to this establishment. The decor is cute and comfy. The prices are reasonable for the quality and taste of the food you receive. I really want this business to succeed and I think it's a wonderful addition to the Southfield/ Farmington Area!

A+++++ excellent. From staff to food quality, this place is great. I came in right around 11am as they were opening. As the staff was preparing for the lunch rush, they still treated me with undivided attention. I ordered the Gumbo and roast beef sandwich, I chose from 4 breads and 3 different cheeses. As I waited, without even asking - the gentleman behind the register gave me tastings of about 5 soups, which were all excellent! The soup had huge pieces of shrimp in it and the sandwich was New York Deli quality. I will be back!

Today I visited this newly opened establishment and I have to admit I was completely blown away! When I walked in I had 3 different people welcome me before I could take 10 steps. After explaining that I had never been there before I was quickly ushered over to the soup counter where I was handed free samples of each variety. From what I understand this place regularly serves 6 kinds of soup daily along with a laundry list of sandwiches. After my little taste testing excursion I ordered the Black Forest Ham sandwich (served with smoked Gouda, lettuce and tomato on sun dried tomato swirl bread) which was very delicious. This seems to be a perfect place for a light and healthy lunch. In fact they advertise themselves as "A fusion of healthy & delicious". Right now I am a fan... I will update this once I go back a few more times.

Delicious! This place knows how to prepare tasty, healthy soups and sandwiches. We ordered the tuna salad and corned beef sandwiches, and were very impressed by the quality and taste! Many more items on the menu sound intriguing. Soups are yummy too.

This place has earned 5 stars now, in my opinion. Food as always has been extremely fresh and wonderfully tasty. The staff has improved greatly over last couple months.

I'm only giving one star because my ham sandwich was good. However, service at this deli was quite possibly the worst I've ever experienced. Three of us entered on a weekday for lunch. There was no line and the place wasn't busy. They do not have actual menus to look at, but rather, digital screens behind the counter. The soups are listed without descriptions. However, the menu on the website does describe the soups. The deli sandwiches are listed with a price of $6.99. Again, another discrepancy between the website and actual location menu is that online it shows prices for a whole or half sandwich. In the store it doesn't even specify. Gives one option, that being the whole without actually saying whole sandwich. They offer a deal, which is presumably a half deli sandwich and cup of soup for $7.99. But again, it wasn't listed anywhere, rather, the cashier just asked if we wanted to add soup. So the first in our party orders a corned beef sandwich. Cashier asked if she wanted a whole or half. Patron asked what was listed, was told it was a whole and said I'll take that. Second in our party orders clam chowder. Was told they were out but that someone hadn't changed the screen. So she settled on corn tortilla soup and a half sandwich. I ordered last. Ham sandwich. Was asked if I wanted to add soup. Ok, I'll have the lemon chicken. Was informed they were out of that as well. Ok then I'll have the corn tortilla. Suddenly clam chowder was available again, so patron 2, altered her order. Patron 2 paid the check. Sandwiches were served. Patron 1 received a half corned beef sandwich when she not only ordered, but was also charged for a whole. Patron 2 received her half sandwich and a cup of what appeared to be tomato soup. I received a half ham sandwich, no soup. Patron 1 was shocked that what everyone else on the planet considers a half deli sandwich was actually a whole?!? But was the same size as 2 & 3's halves. When questioned about the soup, 3 was brought out a clam chowder. Which led us to believe that the only soup brought out was my corn tortilla. So here's the thing, the soup description, which can only be found online states "..Corn Tortilla A flavorful, sweet corn (we cut off the cob), tomatoes, onions and jalapeño peppers in a chicken broth. Garnished with tortilla strips." But what we were served was a puréed soup with no garnish. If you're going to serve a puréed or "blended" soup, please put that in the description. Furthermore, include the garnishes!! I took half of a spoonful and pushed it away as it was not only not as described but horrible. I was so disgusted, I didn't take a picture of the soup. After confronting the staff on the mix ups, we were told the corn tortilla soup IS a purée but were given no reason for the absence of the garnish. And we did receive the other, paid for, half of the corned beef sandwich. But that was after we were given a turkey sandwich to go and then had it taken away when the cashier realized it was the wrong order. The mistakes just never stopped!!! Incidentally, I've tried to use the "contact us" feature on their website but it doesn't work. So here I sit, writing my scathing review on yelp instead. I assume they make their money on catering, or by overcharging customers but only giving them half of the food. I've never seen a more disorganized establishment. And I eat out all over the world, a lot!! We left there completely dissatisfied. I can assure you I will NOT return.

My department has a tradition of taking new coworkers out to lunch as an icebreaker. We decided on Soup Dive as a healthy, newer alternative for lunch and a few of us headed out from the office between a crush of projects. For those looking for it, Soup Dive is on the backside of the complex with Chase Bank, between Northwestern Highway and 12 Mile. Turn into the Chase Bank drive, follow it almost all the way to the end, and you will find Soup Dive attached to a shopping plaza with oddities like a Chinese herbalist. The restaurant is a new addition to the hodgepodge of fast food, American restaurants, and standouts Italian places on the Northwestern Highway corridor. It falls to the lower end of the spectrum in terms of affordability, though still comes out more expensive than a typical meal at Wendy's, the excellent Grape Leaves or Zoups! What do you get? Bowls of soup made from scratch on site, which always include at least one vegetarian option and frequently a gumbo. They had a variety while we visited including a curry carrot, tomato bisque, chowder, and spicy gumbo. Other sides are sparing: sandwiches are served up panini style and, if I remember, standard style. Drinks include water, soft drinks, tea, and coffee. They also carried a smattering of fruit. Soup Dive's soups were well enjoyed by my coworkers, and my curry carrot was all right. The small is fairly satisfying if you had a late breakfast or aren't too hungry, though it would not be sufficient for a complete meal. The bowl sizes start from small to large, ranging from $6.99 to $11.99 depending on the soup. You could easily take home a larger size. However, the prices are not cheap. This would be a special occasion restaurant rather than a standby, especially since $8 nets you a salad, unlimited bread, and an entree at Grape Leaves. Not a bad choice for soups, a good range of flavours/options, and I like they're made from scratch.

We originally called to place order for item on menu but person on phone said that item doesn't exist... So w/o placing order on phone we went in person instead . I ordered a corned beef sandwhich which was ok nothing to shout over. I think they could be better if they were more organized... The cashier was kinda scatter brain. It took quite some time to order and get cashed out. I didn't try the soups or salads, maybe next time when I have more time. It isn't the type of place I would travel out of my way to get to.
(2)Lauren C.
I've been here twice. The first time was better, as the second time they forgot to melt my cheese on my sandwich even though I asked. The soups are very tasty, but the reason I won't be back is because they are priced too high for what you get and they are WAY too slow. There is no reason to wait 40 minutes for half a sandwich and a bowl of already made soup.
(3)Aya T.
Soups are not bad but really very pricey !! Delis were less than ok. Staff were very friendly and welcoming everyone.
(3)Kalyn M.
Everything was good here (homemade, delicious soups, tasty sandwiches) except the price....even with the groupon it was $30 for me and my mom to get half a soup and a sandwich! If the price was better, I would definitely come back but I can't afford to eat here with or without a groupon.
(3)Vance W.
Soup Dive is amazing! Best soups and gumbo I've had in years! If you like fresh ingredients and robust flavors this is the place to come. Plus you can choose between white or brown rice with your gumbo. Soup Dive is defiantly a hidden treasure!
(4)Jennifer D.
Food is great, service is good, but the prices are high... very fresh...
(3)Robert M.
I will never go back here. I walked in and asked for a menu three times and after I practically had to yell to get the persons attention. I was told they don't have one. I asked well what do you serve and the answer was sandwiches and stuff. I just left. I will not go back.

So, wow. Just wow. Since discovering this place I have been coming here for lunch at least once a week. Soup Dive! blends delicious with healthy into a stew of awesomeness. I suppose I should start with the staff. I have been greeted by at least two employees every time I have walked in. They are personable, friendly, and casual. You can tell they put a premium on relationship building and that is a nice touch. The atmosphere of Soup Dive! is a modern casual feel. Jazz on the radio, lots of sharp lines and glass fill the place. They know who their market is(office drones like me) and play to them well. Now that I'm done boring you with descriptions of the place itself let's get to the important part, the food. Everything at Soup Dive! is made fresh when you order(soups are made that morning). They use as much Michigan made/grown products as possible as well. I've had some of their soups, sandwiches, and flatbreads and all were incredible. The chicken flatbread is a stand out. Their balsamic they drizzle on top made me weak in the knees. They make their own salad dressings as well. Peach mimosa vinaigrette? Yes please! Soup Dive! is a lil pricey for a lunch but the old adage is true here. you get what you pay for. I really hope this place makes it and opens in other locations so others can enjoy the amazing food they make here. I do find it ironic/quaint that you have to drive through a McDonalds parting lot to eat here.

First time I went here. I ordered the Dive Gumbo, which is supposed to have shrimp and crab. After waiting 20 minutes for the soup and 3 people who ordered after me getting their food first, I get home only to find that there was no crab in the soup. Seriously disappointed. The soup was still good, and they do have a sign saying that it may take up to 20 minutes for your food since they make things to order, but it was not the best first experience. I would probably give it another try. If you are impatient you can call your order in ahead of time.

I came here as part of a Groupon deal for two combo meals that included pick two out of three from a cup of soup, a garden salad, or half a sandwich. Overall, I was satisfied with my meal. I got a good deal out of it through Groupon. However, if I paid full price for it, I do not think I can be as enthusiastic. I got the grilled cheese and chicken noodle while my friend got grilled cheese and French Onion. Both were decently good. Not the best I ever had but a good option for lunch. The atmosphere was clean and friendly. I was greeted immediately when I walked in and the staff was very helpful. There was a bit of a wait for the food but I did not mind because I was catching up with a friend. In fact, I sat there for almost two hours and it was not a problem. At one point, one of the staff came by and cleared our trays and gave us some water. If I am around this area, I would stop here again, but seeing as how I live 20 minutes away, I will not make the trip for the heck of it.
(4)Paul J.
The concept sounds good, healthy sandwiches soups and salads. However the experience left something to be desired. I ordered a soup and salad combo (salad selection is very limited). The soup was hot but bland. My biggest gripe with this place was that it took 20 minutes for them to bring my salad... and it wasn't that good. If you're looking for a quick bite for lunch, avoid this place. Slow and poor service are the words that come to mind.

Tried this place for the third time today. The maple honey turkey sandwich and Jamaican chicken stew were very good!! I ordered online to skip the wsit, which seems to be the best option
(3)M G.
Food is great but staff is awful! Completely prejudice towards whites!! I've gone there several times and am always waiting for my food to get made (I'm white), yet someone black will walk in after me and be out before me. I ordered a sandwich today that was supposed to be grilled. After waiting 25 minutes for it, he toasted it for about 30 seconds so it was completely cold, bread wasn't even the slightest bit toasted and cheese was not melted. The place is great in theory but I think the owner needs to spend more time hiring the staff!
(2)William M.
I ordered a large Dive Gumbo which was $12. I got home and ready to dig in and it resembled a bowl of thick, brown gravy. It tasted a little weird too, unlike any gumbo I've ever eaten! Best thing about this visit was the cornbread which was small but delicious!
(2)Steven M.
If you want to dive into bland, mediocre soup and sandwiches, Soup Dive is your place. While the clam chowder is thick, it just had no flavor. I ordered a corn beef and coleslaw sandwich. It had no Russian or thousand island and the bread fell apart on the first bite. You're better off going to Zoup. This food is not worth your money.

After 3 years of working in the Farmington Hills / Southfield area, I was more than ready to try a new place for lunch. I'd driven by a couple of times, and decided to give it a try. I walked in and it looked nice and clean, with interesting soups - Jamaican chicken, gumbo, clam chowder, cream of asparagus and cream of sweet potato. I tasted the sweet potato soup, which had a creamy smooth texture and delicious taste. If they had added a dash (or two) of some cayenne, it would have been perfect. I ordered the clam chowder, and was given a choice of crackers or cornbread as my side. Cornbread!! Yum. Crackers might have been better, but I can't turn down cornbread, which was pretty tasty. The chowder was good - not too think or too thin, with nice chucks of potatoes and little bits of clams. I'll look forward to going back again and trying some of their other soups and sandwiches.

Great food! Had the lunch special with a generously sized maple turkey sandwich and crenelated of broccoli soup. About the same price as panera bread or zoup but a larger portion. I'd definitely go back. Friendly service although it seemed a bit understaffed which was a slight delay in service time. Not enough to keep me away though.
(4)T R.
I like the food here. I will say the service has improved. The staff used to be a little on the un- friendly side which made me not return, but I was hungry one day and didnt want fast food this was the closet place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And I noticed the music selection change to jazz instead of R&B. Which was nice.
(3)Andrea J.
Pretty good!!! The atmosphere is more deli-ish but the food is not so bad...big fan of the fresh fruit smoothie...coming back
(3)Terri W.
Went on a groupon. Food was good. Soup was fresh and homemade. I waited way too long and I thought the prices were kind of high. I make my own soups fresh so paying that much is just out of the question.
(3)Bruce F.
Soup Dive is a pretty good quality lunch. The service is friendly but sooooo slooooow! We ordered and waited for well over 30 minutes, close to 45. I enjoyed the Dive Gumbo. The person who filled my soup bowl added a lot more shrimp than the normal soup person, but the soup was $9.99 for a medium bowl! We each had a sandwich and a soup with water to drink and it was almost $40. It was tasty but too pricey for my lunch budget. I probably won't be back, 2 stars...
(2)drake p.
Nicely done with a variety of soups to boot! I received a very friendly greeting upon entering, but decided on the Jerk Gumbo and regular Gumbo soup since I was trying to shake a cold. The soup was completely on point, and I this place, if it can stick around long enough is quite franchisable. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
(4)S B.
I called ahead to find out what the soup choices were and they lady who answered was pleasant enough - not over or under. When I first arrived, I was shocked to see a sign in the window that said they use Boarshead meats! Well, rock on - I LOVE Boarshead's meats, cheeses and sauces. They have one "pro". I was a little turned off by the Panera-bread-type prices on the menu, but I kept an open mind since I was using a Groupon. When I got there, one of the owners (recognized her from an Hour Magazine article) asked if I would like to taste a soup (again, just pleasant enough). I tasted the veggie and the Gumbo Dive. The veggie was tasty, but maybe just a bit to acidic and and the "broth" was a bit thick for a veggie soup, but it was still good. It had some kind of herb flavor to it, also. I pressed on and tried the Gumbo Dive. The gumbo tasted like the recipe was on the right track to being good, but failed because of the heavy-handed cook put way to much salt in the gumbo. So I ordered my soups - two veggies, gave the owner my Groupon, we walked down to the register and she said NOTHING. She just barely looked at me. She didn't ask what sandwiches I would like. She didn't ask if I wanted something to drink. She DID repeatedly click her pen top up and down (basically her way of saying, "hurry up!" or "I'm bored" or "I having a bad day!"). So after one minute of silence, except for the "clickty, click" of the pen top, I said, "So what sandwich can I have?" She pointed at the itty bitty writing on the Toshiba TV display behind her and said, "Any one of the eight sandwiches." So I ordered a corn beef and a turkey sandwich. I ordered everything to-go, so I did not get a chance to taste anything until I got home. About 10 minutes later (gotta work on their processes), my order was ready. The owner's face lit up and she said some really nice pleasantries (just the right amount of nice!) I was pleasantly surprised that the sandwiches were very good. The corned beef sandwich had a crazy kind of broccoli coleslaw on it. I know it sounds weird, but it was really good. It came with some "Dive" dressing - some secret SoupDive recipe. That was a mayonnaise with a hint of herb...decent dressing. The turkey sandwich was good, as well. It came with the same special Dive dressing. The sandwiches were supposed to come with cheese, but I didn't get any on either sandwich. I would have to say that the meats are top-notch because Boarshead meats are top-notch. Boarsheads meats are way more flavorful than say Subway meats. Actually Subway meats have no flavor at all in my opinion. All in all, I am a fan. Will I be back anytime soon? Unfortunately, I don't believe so. I visited this placed after the lunch time, so I could see the service being really slow if I visit at a more popular time, like say lunchtime. The prices scare me and the portions are small. The food would be hard to swallow if I had to pay regular price, but if someone is paying or I have a coupon, I am all in! PRO: Boarshead meats, homemade soups, privately-owned (nothing "chainy" about this place), free WiFi, restaurant is clean and neat (but that should be a given for any restaurant), great place to get take out CON: Kind of expensive, small portions, small areas to sit and eat (not sure if I want to eat in front of the cash register or close to a walking path), no cubby holes to have a private conversation, the wait can be a bit long, no take-out menus (I guess they are being green) I hope they find the market that will keep them open. They are making a great effort at being good restaurant and I can see that. They are still a bit rough around the edges though. Go to Panera Bread instead. You will be far happier with the level of service, the food, ambience and the price.
(4)M M.
First time visit and will probably not be back. I tasted the mushroom soup and the small sample was good and the pot was full of mushrooms. I ordered the large. When I got back to work, there was one mushroom and the rest was broth...so disappointing. I paid $7 for broth???
