big portions, decent food. not expensive, make sure to bring a big stomach.

Awesome comfort food ! Ribs to die for, catfish perfectly prepared and to top it off collard greens so yummy. Thanks Tom for a great restaurant so perfectly done. Prices are great so easy on the pocket. This spot is bookmarked definitely !

There wasn't a wait when my BF and I arrived - we were seated and greeted as well at the door. The portion are VERY large and also the price is pretty high as well but don't get me wrong you can basically split a meal or have leftovers for the next day. I wouldn't come here all the time but it's nice place to dine at once in a while.

Made reservations to be seated with a party of 15 for my mothers birthday. Upon our arrival my party and I were seated at two different tables at opposite ends of the room. Our waitress Stacey was very rude from the beginning of our service. I was seated with children and she was extremely impatient with our orders and was quick to shop to questions asked. For a first time visit for many of my guests, it's not a place I'd recommend others to attend.

I absolutely love this place. This is my favorite restaurant, there might be food that tastes better some place else but the portions you get along with the friendly service and the delicious food, you can't go wrong. If you're in the Detroit area trust me check out Nikolas and get the wings can't go wrong, best wings I've ever had!
(5)Walt W.
I got cary out from here. The ribs were tough and burnt. The barbecue sauce lacked flavor. I don't recommend carry out but doubt dining in would be much better.
(1)Shelby J.
Excellent food, also my first time visit ordered the carry out. The place was way too crowded. That's a good sign. Had the half a slab of rib dinner delicious and feeling. I most definitely will be back for more.
(5)Bruce K.
Best bar b q sauce in town. an average restaurant but keep coming back for the ribs and pork. I always have a bottle of their sauce in my house. the broasted chicken is good, the wings are good. deserts are old school and very tasty.
(4)Kristian L.
Food is always delicious. Best giant nacho ever. Only complaint is the staff, rude unprofessional and less than attentive.
(4)Betty B.
WOW the portions are HUGE. Reasonably priced. Nice selection of choices.
(3)Ted B.
Nicolas has a very good menu of American cuisine. The barbeque ribs and chicken are great. The sauce is sweet and tangy the The meat is tender and moist. The breaded fish is very good with tartar sauce or hot sauce. The sides are fresh and made in their kitchen. The sandwiches are very good too. Much better than fast food sandwiches as each sandwich is made to order and very fresh. Good dining in or for take out. Very good restaurant.
(5)Robert P.
Amazing breasted chicken with a huge hunk of bread!! Mac and cheese was ok but good, great price!!
(5)Corey H.
I attended Nicolas on a Sunday afternoon. The parking lot was packed and there were several people waiting in the lobby we had a party of four and had a relatively short wait after putting our name in we were seated after about 10 minutes. Pretty quick for it being a Sunday around the time church's were letting out. The service was good, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is good, prices are great and they aren't Stingy with the portions. I had the orange roughy, which wish I was skeptical about getting but it was surprisingly could very well and taste great the rest of my Paris had barbecue ribs which were also really good but no good as my fav over at slows. Some items are obviously made from box such as the macaroni and cheese. I would recommend this place it is better then the quality you would get over at a restaurant such as Pondarosa or the Golden corral it is more so comparable to red lobster or outback.
(3)Alex D.
Greasy food. It's okay. They're no better than getting food from a Happy's Pizza or similar place, only difference is they cost more!
(2)Lynn B.
This is a friendly, neighborhood spot for BIG APPETITES. I have never seen food portions so large! My mini Greek salad was twice any mini I've ever had - a scoop-full of feta cheese, garbanzo beans, beets, olives and lettuce. The "special" ribs (5 bones) was enough for two and the collard greens were served in a soup bowl - Wow! The food is good. Alcohol is very reasonable priced. Our waitress was attentive. The price is inexpensive. What's more? Come after 7pm on Thursdays, and experience live jazz!
(5)M J.
I used to be a fan but now blah.........I went yesterday and thinly positive thing I have to say is the ranch dressing was good and my waitress was nice but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to an enemy.
(2)Clara H.
Worst customer service. Tried to make an order a head of time and they gave me such a hard time. Won't order from there ever again. On the other hand the food wasn't so bad. But customer service is bad

While in the Detroit area visiting family, I caught up with some old friends at their favorite spot. We met around 2pm Labor Day. The parking lot was a little more than halfway full. The hosts manning the front were nice as they pointed out where my friends were sitting. Our server Yvette was pretty friendly and struck an instant rapport with us. Hours earlier I had a chicken sandwich from McDonalds so it probably wasn't the smartest choice to order the ribs and fish. Thankfully the pasta serving was small so I got thru that OK. It was flavorful with a hint of tangy. The salads my friends ordered looked plentiful. For the other side I had the collared greens which I liked. I could barely get halfway thru the ribs. They were OK but not my fave. I prefer my ribs fall off the bone, which these weren't. I do like that the portions are huge. The shrimp one friend ordered she said didn't taste great. The chicken tenders my other friend ordered looked good so I would definitely try those next time. From what I was told the holiday menu wasn't as expansive as their regular menu so I would be curious to see rest of items. They have a good variety of desserts but I wasn't up to trying any. Next time.

Ordered: Ribs, Pork, & Chicken combo w/ chicken gumbo & mac n' cheese Ambiance: Came here on a whim when I was having a bbq hankerin'. Fairly dimly-lit place with a southern colonial feel. There are open shutters built into a dividing wall and a prevalence of salmon-pink walls and warm brown woods. The staff were quick and friendly but did go at 4 so it was pretty empty. Food: I was fairly underwhelmed with the food overall. The chicken gumbo was essentially a liquidy mexican rice with tomatoes and okra, it could really needed some andouille for complexity and a hefty kick of cajun/creole seasoning to make it interesting. The mac n' cheese had an unnatural deep golden mustard color and was soo mushy I couldn't finish it, it tasted OK but I couldn't get the thought that they were using powdered cheese out of my head. Thankfully the entree had some redeeming qualities. What Nikola's does well is texture and portions. Their ribs (5) are cooked until they are crispy on the outside but still come right-off-the-bone tender. The pulled pork and whole bbq chicken breast were both very moist and savory. The fatal flaw, however, is that everything tasted baked/steamed. What I mean by this is that there was no smokiness, no discernable rub, and no caramelization on the outside. It tastes as if the meat was just brushed with sauce after it came out the oven, not like it was cooked or smoked into the meat. They also only have 2 sauces, one is a sweet-savory carolina-type vinegar sauce and the other tastes like frank's red hot sauce. There was no KC-style savory smokey sauce which is what I was really craving. Overall, this place is a good poor-man's bbq or lovers of carolina-style bbq. You do get hge portions for a reasonable price and the meat is cooked very well although it doesn't taste like true charcoal/wood-smoked bbq.

This was a great place to take our large party with many kids. It is a busy and loud environment, at least on Thursday evenings. Food portions are large, so if you get any combos, share between two hungry people! Food is good. Heavy, but good. Service was accommodating, especially given the kids, etc.
(4)Raymond H.
What can I say I went to this place about three years ago and never got to place my order in carry out because some loud mouth was making a scene and so I walked out but today was my birthday and I decided to go with my family. We got there and were greeted quickly by our server and had our waters on the table before we could even settle in, she took our drink order quickly and we asked for a little more time to look at the menu. We though by looking at the price's that we were going to be getting small portions of everything but boy were we wrong. When we got our food the first this our server said was welcome to Bedrock and she wasn't playing me and my wife were like oh my Dammmmm so much food for only $12.50 and $15.00 and my kids portions were pretty big too of course we couldn't finish like most people but the food was good and the prices and portions you can't beat we have a new one stop spot from now on and we feel so stupid not stopping here all these years.

I LOVE the ribs, wings and broasted bbq chicken/broasted potatoes, slaw. BUT will ONLY order carry-out. Tried multiple times to eat in, but the service is just down right reFUNCTDUNKuLOUS! SLLLLLLOOOOOOOWER than Southern molasses. RUDE. The waitresses/waiters act like they are doing you a favor by showing up and doing their job. Trust me, we aren't demanding people. We don't eat half of our meal and then complain about it and want a full refund...We just want smiles, hello's, prompt service, orders correct, refills on drinks, "how is your meal"....CUSTOMER CARE. I've been there when it's busy and when it's slow and the hit miss of the customer service is SOOO MISS! The FOOD is great and fair in $, but the service, no splitting checks, and automatic 18% for parties of 5 or more (even if they suck at serving you) make dining in a turn off. The carry-out department is by far the best I've ever encountered in any restaurant. FAST, POLITE, HAPPY...They take care to check your order for correctness, say hello, SMILE... If service were better, I would give a 5 for great BBQ : )
(3)Ted J.
The food here is awesome, and they serve quickly. If you go thru the takeout you get treated a little like a criminal (probably because they have clients that try to gip them...a lot). You have to agree to the food order you purchased before you leave. I get it, and it's not a problem for me. And, they put beets on the Greek salad. Thank you.
(5)Julian B.
To most the food is really good. I used like it more about ten years ago. Used to love the nachos but no longer. I would say this place satisfies most but not I. I used to do carryout due to constantly busy inside. Ribs chicken fish most popular. Good boasted potatoes and good house-ranch dressing. I love a good house-ranch dressing.
(2)John L.
This seems like a pretty nice restaurant, but I should have known better than to order ribs in Michigan. I had the ribs and shrimp with mac and cheese and coleslaw ($14.75). Everything was OK, but the ribs weren't real tender. The service was good, they were fast, and the place was clean. I don't know if I'd go back or not.
(3)Jonny P.
Just got back this afternoon from a lunch here... The portions indeed are HUGE! Had a combo which included a salad, mixed veggies (meh, tinned & drenched in butter), breaded scallops (weird, fail), broasted pork chops (very good) & their broasted chicken breast (pretty good.) To be fair I do not think this is the best selection to make from a BBQ joint but really I couldn't deal with Ribs during my lunch break. Our server was awesome, we were in and outta there (paid) in 45 minutes. I'll update this review after sampling their ribs. Only one type of BBQ sauce on the table BUT it was GOOD...

Fabulous Food!!!!

4.5 stars! I've been on the hunt for a good BBQ place, because you know how us men need meat. A co-worker of mine told me to try this place. I'm not quite sure how to get there because I was playing Robot Unicorn Attack on my phone at the time, but the place doesn't look like a BBQ place from the outside. On the inside, it has a feel of a Bob Evans or a Coney Island. I was quite skeptical about the food here, since the prices are so cheap. $22 for a "party platter"? Can't be that good. I was quite surprised at how big the portions were though! Imagine a Chinese takeout place that serves BBQ, and you'll get an idea of the portion size. Anyways I uploaded some pictures so you could see. The Hot shot or something like that platter is enough to feed 3 or 4 people. My only gripe is that the ribs need to be more TENDER! I've yet to find a place that serves tender ribs (I'll try Slow's next). Also, this place only has 1 kind of sauce at their table, unusual for a BBQ place. But the pork chops were REALLY good. I didn't expect that kind of taste level for a party platter, so I was pleasantly surprised. I'll also try to come back here for the fish that they have. My friend said that her Salmon was really good, but her steamed vegetables tasted like sh*t. Since I'm not that familiar with what sh*t actually tastes like (nor do I want to be), I don't have much to say on the subject. This place is pretty good, and the waitress we had was really nice too. I saw a review that complains about the service, but you can't honestly judge the whole waiting team by the service of one person, at one time. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive. I'll be back!

went there for new years 2013 Food was just plain horrible, never had chicken wings that bad in my life.

...hadnt been here in a minute & had forgotten just how great their food is. I had the broiled salmon, rice pilaf + mixed vegetables. the salmon was prepped perfectly and tasted very fresh. Their prices are very reasonable for the portions that they serve. The dining area has two sides, one side being somewhat quiet and more spacious whereas the other side has live jazz (only on Thursdays, I heard) and is a little more cozy. Nikola's is very well-maintained, but our waitress...eh! Our waitress was fairly polite, but seemed to be slightly hasty and very flat. She literally whisked around and we had to wave her down from across the room if we needed something. For example, she brought carry-out containers for our leftovers and placed them on the table beside us. However, within moments before we could pack the food up, she collected our plates without first asking if we were finished /planning to place them in the containers. No refill on water either :-( Also, don't bother asking to split the check because they won't, but they will allow you to break up the method of payment. Oh well, this is still a great place and hopefully this is just one mediocre waitress doesn't spoil the rep of this great place.

Best ribs PERIOD. I've been all over, from Texas to Memphis, to Chicago to California...again and again I keep coming back to Nicola's and converting others to agree these are the best ribs. If you aren't feeling ribs, the wings are on point, catfish is great. Greens are good. Cornbread is fresh. Only thing I've never really liked is the broasted chicken...but that really isn't my thing.

Foodies stay away! But if you love huge portions and Ponderosa quality then you will be very happy with this place. It is really really not for me. I've watched enough restaurant impossible to know a 12 page menu is a bad sign. I ordered accordingly to be sure I will get something I can eat. We started with potato skins, which were good, and i ordered fried shrimp for the entree with mac n cheese and broasted potatoes. The mac was not good. I'm pretty sure it's just boiled noodles with canned cheese sauce stirred in. My sister in law sent hers back and got pasta salad instead. Was again just boiled noodles covered in creamy Italian. I convinced her a third try is probably pointless. The potatoes and shrimp were very bland and needed condiments to be worth chewing. My husband got the ribs, chicken and fish combo. It was gigantic. He took most of it home so i can't say if it was good. We won't be eating the leftovers, however, since now 6 hours later we both have food poisoning. Everything i ate was fried or baked so how does that happen? Someone not washing hands in the kitchen probably. Being pregnant, the thought of listeria is distressing to me. Needless to say, we will not be dining here again.

This used to be my favorite restaurant when I lived in Southfield and even when I would come home to visit. However, the last 2 years since the long time staff has left, the service has been "stank." Last month when I visited, the attitudes of the MANY people in the carry out area finally make me decide to never go back. The food seems to be almost as good as it used to be, but I value customer service and unfortunately, it no longer exists at Nikolas. So sad to say good bye.
(2)lawrence j.
I've have visited Nikola's for many years and have enjoyed both wonderful meals and service. It is truly astounding that a restaurant with so many meal choices prepares them all excellently! I have dined in and taken out and I've nothing but high praise for the food and waitstaff;however, no establishment is totally perfect. I once had a minor complaint with my meal and I notified my server. The manager personally took care of it and made sure that I was totally satisfied! They work very hard to maintain their high level of quality food and great service. I have also used Nikola's for my family reunion and private parties... Large food large orders aren't a problem ( with proper advance notice) and my quests were very pleased and complimented me for my catering selection!! In conclusion, I would highly recommend Nikola's; you'd be hard pressed to find a better value for your dinning dollar anywhere in the area!

Went here for lunch yesterday, and [sigh]...so full of potential...and yet so full of fail. And it's not like there weren't omens, all of which I completely ignored. For instance, when the menu has half the first page taken up with a gigantic note (wish I would've taken a photo, but sorry, I was chatting) letting you know that no, they will not do separate checks...ever. And an 18% gratuity will be added for all parties of 5 or more and (and this emphasis is theirs, not mine) THAT INCLUDES SMALL CHILDREN, TODDLERS AND BABIES!! Doesn't exactly scream "friendly customer service atmosphere"...but hey, she said some of her friends had been here and liked it a while ago, so let's try anyway. I told the waiter I wasn't really in the mood to get all messy with ribs, and I'm I huge barbecue fan, so what should I order? BBQ Pork sandwich? Solid. I'll trust his judgment. He works there, I should be able to do that, right? Wrong. That was a mistake. First problem: two people at the table, not very crowded in the place at all...still took almost a half hour for our lunches to get there after ordering. Second problem: her order was wrong. Why is it that when some people hear "no onions" that somehow gets translated to "extra onions...like tons of onions...like an entire FIELD of onions, please!" in their minds? Third problem: I don't know what happened during that half hour, but I'm guessing twenty to twenty five minutes of it was spent with my sandwich sitting on a shelf somewhere, because it was far from even being "warm" when I got it. Fourth problem: He tossed our food down and then vanished. I'm not quite sure if there was some sort of staff meeting that someone decided to call during the lunch hour or what, but there was not a waitress or waiter to be found. After waiting about five minutes...well, to hell with it, can't be here all day...might as well roll with it and make the best of it so that we can both get back to our respective offices. Fifth problem: It's sliced pork...which, while not necessarily being a "fail" in and of itself, c'mon people. I shouldn't feel like I'm gnawing through shoe leather that's been smothered in a Heinz 57 / Ketchup / Tabasco glaze in a (failed) attempt to mask how terrible it actually is. Said Heinz 57 / Ketchup / Tabasco glaze had, in that aforementioned half hour, turned the bottom of the bun it was served on into a gummy play-dough mess. I can adapt...I gave up the "sandwich" approach, took off the top, and went at it with a fork. Didn't really help much. Sixth problem: Someone random brings us our bill. I casually (and even politiely, mind you) ask if perhaps there was a backlog or issue in the kitchen or something else that might have triggered the delay in the (not even a quarter of the way eaten) food? Result: attitude. Megatude. ...and that's a wrap. Cash me out, I've got no time for this since it's already been such a cluster. Luckily the person I was with is a good friend, and at least now we have another shared story to laugh over and share. I might...MIGHT...at some point in time come back and try the ribs since that seems to be what people recommend and go for...but it's going to take me a while before I'm willing to do that.

My family and I go here regularly and it has become a family favorite. I am very picky about where I can go eat and Nikolas passes the test. It's clean, the service is great and most importantly the food is amazing. You wont be disappointed with any of their options. A must try are their Nikola wing and their nachos. To die for!
(5)Kelly S.
Mom and I decided to stop in here while we were on our way to shop in Northville. I ordered the sliced pork sandwich and mom ordered the $22.00 seafood platter. My pork sandwich cost $6.75 and I had to pay another $1.50 for fries to go with it. There was a lot of pork on the sandwich but it was so dry and tasteless. The fries were lukewarm and not crispy. The waiter was pleasant but he did forget to bring mom her garlic bread and baked beans that came with her expensive platter. The crab-cakes on the platter were very good, made with large chunks of real crab, she loved them. The shrimp was large and breaded nicely. When the waiter returned with her baked beans we were disappointed to see that she received a very large bowl of pork-n-beans...yuck. There is a very big difference in baked beans (something you look forward to at a BBQ joint) and bland pork-n-beans that seemed to have come from a can. The menu had a large selection, the ambiance was nice. It's a nice option in the area to eat at, but I think I'd drive by next time and try something else.

Yes, I admit it I am definitely a fan of Nikola's! I have been to this establishment quite a few times. On Thursday evenings (after 7 pm) Nikola's has a jazz ensemble! Very very nice touch. While I sat there with my friends eating a Cobb salad (yummy) and drinking my Cabernet I was able to listen to the jazz band. Very nice. The only glitch was one of my friends didn't like the cole slaw, but she eyed my other friend's tossed salad when it came and I believe that she just wanted to change it to a tossed salad and the waitress obliged her! My Cobb salad was humongous and therefore was able to eat it for lunch the next day as well. All in all everything was great. The servers were also really really good. For one reason or another we had 2 servers and the one that really stood out was Sandra - she was awesome. Definitely I will go again - love the ribs!!!!
(4)Cecilia C.
I wasn't that impressed. I had a bbq pork sandwich and while I figured it may be messy it was so challenging to eat since the meat was tough and would fall out of the sandwich. I also had a side of the broasted potatoes. I would recommend these over the sandwich. With all of this being said I would try this place again though would try something different.
(2)Garry B.
Great food...with the exception of the macaroni and cheese. However... that's not why o come....the meats and the Yams are a BIG yes....OK and the desserts are a Yes
(4)O G.
This place used to serve good food. I liked it best when they first added greens, mac & cheese, and other soul food dishes to their menu. My son and I went to Nikola's after not having been in about 2 years. Ooo boy, we were not wowed! The greens are from the can now & they were very very salty. The mac & cheese went from like homemade to the kraft mac & cheese they served me last week (they didn't even have the decency to add any real cheese to to it...smh). The ribs were dry and even the coleslaw changed. The chicken wings were good and are the only thing that makes this review worth one star. My son ordered the bbq pork sandwich. He said the meat was tough & dry. I took my food home so I could fix the mac & chz, rinse the green so I could eat them without developing hypertension, and bake the ribs to get them more moist & tender. If I have to do all of that to enjoy my food, I might as well cook. I won't be back!

I was in another Chicken place (Miles on Orchard Lake Rd.) and had a horrible experience there as my review shows, But one of the good things I took away from my experience at Miles was that some people at another table were complaining about the food at Miles and were commenting on all of the other Fried and Broasted Chicken places in the area that they liked better. One of the high recommendations they made was Nikola's. The comment one of them made was that Nikola's serves some of the best chicken in the area. That was good to know. So I learned something good at Mikes even though I really disliked the chicken there. I had not been to Nikola's in a very long time. The last time I was there was when the place first opened and at that time they were attempting to be a full service restaurant with a broad menu. I had a bad experience with a grossly overcooked steak that they would not recook for me and because the attitude was bad, I had never gone back. But after hearing the accolades from the people at the other table at Miles, I decided to give Nicola's another try. It was a totally different experience. The menu was guite different and the restaurant focus was different too. The clientelle was different and most importantly the food was different. What was at one time a family style restaurant with a broad menu, has morphed into a Chicken, Ribs, Fried Fish and Shrimp kind of place. They have a limited and focused menu now and what they do serve has been perfected. I had a small broasted chicken combo plate and it was very good. The pieces were large, the chicken was moist, the flavors were not overdone and the service was good. It wasn't the best chicken I have ever had, but I will agree with the comments made by the people sitting near me at Miles. It is one of the best places I have found in the area.

One of the BEST wings I ever eaten!!!!! It's one of the only places anywhere that has broasted buffalo wings! They give you 12 huge wings for like $6. It's ridiculous. The sauce is delicious and the wings are crispy and addictive. Other highlights are the huge portions of food. I mean Huge! One entree can be shared by 2 people with leftovers. Broasted chicken is super good. Ribs are yummy. broasted potatoes are huge. Salad is good too! Pasta salad comes with feta cheese. I love it. They have combination like 3 types of meat with 2 sides and salad for around $18 and it can easily feed 3 people!!! Well go here and try their unique wings and get some ribs, broasted chicken, or steak and be happy! Service is great. Lot of seating so you won't wait long anytime. They have TVs for people who are into sports. It's clean inside. One note. Last time I went here I spent $18 for 2 people and had leftovers. Highly recommend that you share if you get an entree. This place is a GEM.

Horrible dried out old steak dried out shrimp which they butterfly to appear large. Very ghetto... Don't waste your time!
(1)Ryan B.
The food here is amazing. The portions are huge, and they are known for their homemade sauce. It has the quality that you expect with the home cook feel. You can't find a better restaurant!
(5)S. L.
@ Nadia W: Exactly what does ghetto mean? Can you use more descriptive words to describe your experience? Thank you.
(4)Nicole C.
Good service. And a nice ambiance. That's about it! Oh wait I can't forget the amazing BBQ wings wow! The best I've had in a while. They weren't the little wing dings that most people claim are wings. They were these large delicious wings drenched in their house made sauce that was amazing as well. That is the only thing I would suggest. I got the BBQ pork sandwich and was disappointed because it was not tender at all! My friend got a village salad and it did not look good and she did not look satisfied. The server recommended the BBQ pizza to my other friend and the crust was soggy. As if they didn't cook it long enough. I will only get wings from this place don't venture out and try something that's on the menu. Even though it is a BBQ place I find it strange that they have random food such a nachos and quesadillas. This place would be so much better if they simplified their menu to only BBQ and focused on making sure the meat is tender. Because the BBQ sauce is one of the best I've ever had.

We came for lunch on a Friday (5 ladies). We were in and out within one hour: food was good, big portion and fast service Even though I only a quarter of my sandwich and took the rest togo.
(4)Dominique K.
We'd heard about this place for some time and had a chance to try it at the tail end of a busy lunch hour on a Tuesday. We opted for the broasted chicken-for-two--an entire chicken, two salads, two orders of broasted potatoes and two, huge pieces of garlic bread...all for 14.50! You'll pay a few bucks more if you want all white meat, or to sub a mini-Greek or mini-Julienne salad with your meal, but it's still a great deal. We had plenty of food for lunch, with plenty of leftovers to take home for dinner that night. The chicken was tender and certainly on a par with Chicken Shack (which we've gone to for years for broasted chicken dinners). I wasn't too wild about the Greek salad, but loved the potatoes and garlic bread. My dining companion had a regular salad with honey mustard dressing, which he liked. He also tried some of the BBQ sauce on his potatoes and said it had a nice, smoky flavor. I would have preferred brewed ice tea, rather than the powered stuff they serve here. Service was quick and friendly, and the print-out of the bill included a helpful tip calculator that told you what 15 or 20 percent of the bill would be. This isn't fancy food by any means, but it's a good place for family-type meals at a decent price.

We went on a Saturday. The place was slammed but we were able to get a table in about 20 minutes. The server did everything you would expect but it was obvious he was really rushed with all the tables he was covering. It took about ten minutes to get our check at the end of the meal. As everyone else has said, the food was in enormous portions. All of it was very good. I would recommend it to a friend with a caveat about calling it "barbeque." For those looking for barbeque, be aware that the food here is broasted not barbecued. In Michigan, barbecue seems to mean it has barbecue sauce on it (which Nikola's does). If you're looking for anything smoked like you might find in the Carolinas or Texas, this is not the right restaurant. Instead, you might want to try Slow's down in Detroit.
(3)Brandon S.
Let me just say after moving to Ohio in 2010, I always take time to swing by and get some broasted chicken and pasta salad. If I could open a nikolas in Cincinnati I would!
(5)Kevin S.
Alright these ribs are soo good they make me want to slap my own momma. Real talk. The ribs for 2 is the best deal you can find with 2 big side portions with salad and garlic bread. The BBQ sauce is tangy and one of a kind. Be prepared to leave with a smile on your face and the beginning symptoms of the itis.
(5)Jess T.
I work across the street from this establishment. When we have a larger group going out (6-8 people) for lunch, this is one of our options. I have not tried the BBQ here, with that said the things that I have tried were good. The spinach salad with honey mustard dressing, the pizza and salad lunch special, the garlic bread that you can smell form the street, many of the sandwiches are good too.
(3)Brian M.
I cannot stress enough that the sauce makes the barbecue, and Nikola's understands that well. This is one of the main reasons I like eating there, especially for my birthday (January 15, in case you all did not know). The barbecue ribs are to die for! And, what makes them even better, they give you rather large portions of them. I also, recently, had their broasted potatoes, and they were quite tasty as well. If barbecue is not your thing, though, they do have a variety of other menu options, including seafood. I also would recommend their fried shrimp, as they are very good, as well. Now, if you are ordering carryout, they have a separate entrance in the rear for that (unlike the old days of the restaurant where the carryout and the dine-in crowded the entrance). If you are dining in, they DO NOT separate checks, so it would behoove you to carry a calculator if that will be an issue. Also, since this restaurant and the pizza restaurant next door draw large crowds for their size, be prepared to park a little distance from the door. However, after seeing the food they give you, it is probably a good idea to walk some of it off, anyways.

I did not have a good experience here. The service was slow and I just had a salad. They could not do separate bills with our party and the waiter was not attentive to us at all. Blah.
(1)Linda E.
When I think of barbeque, I think of Nikola's. Huge portions, reasonable prices, great entertainment and large non-smoking area! I usually find myself here Thursday's to listen to live jazz from local performers. My fave is the sliced bbq pork, which comes with a huge side dish (think bbq beans in a cereal-sized bowl), and a huge slice of garlic bread - for $13 I have food for 3 days! I've heard great things about their burgers, ribs, chicken, fish and steaks. Get together a big group of friends (get there early because it gets busy), have a delicious meal, and listen to some great music from Metro Detroit's finest!

First let me say the sauce is awesome. The ribs Meh. 3 of us had dinner here, 2 of us including myself had the full slab of baby-back ribs. The portions are large, but the ribs are tough. Baby-back ribs should pull apart easily and melt in your mouth. The other person at our table with ribs had the same experience. The third member of our party had Pork Chops which were OK. but again a little tough. I am not sure if our waiter was having a bad day or what, but he had a bad attitude. When we asked what he recommended, said he spends too much time there and does not eat there. Wow, maybe we should have left before he took our order. With your entree you choose 1 hot side and 1 cold side, I am an extremely picky eater and did not see anything on the cold sides I would eat. I asked the waiter if it would be OK. to substitute 2 hot sides instead. Request denied. He did offer to charge me for an additional hot side, despite not ordering a second side from the cold side. Could we get separate checks? Request denied. I can't think of any reason to go back except maybe to get some of the BBQ sauce to go.
(2)John N.
Service is kinda slow, food is just mediocre, refusing to split a bill is just bad customer service.
(3)William P.
Ridiculous. I didn't take the review seriously that said to share a plate. Please... for the sake of all that is holy... share a plate! Hugemungous-est piece of garlic bread... very tastey. Got the ribs, chicken and shrimp plate. The ribs were very succulent, the sauce was good-to-borderline-great, they kept the rib tip on... but it just wasn't the best actual rib meat I've ever had. Maybe not even a top 20. The broasted (read fried) chicken was bordering amazing. Nothing special about the breading, which usually makes the fried chicken for me... but the chicken itself was absolutely awesome. The fried shrimp were large and delicious. Went for dinner around 8pm on a Wednesday. There were no parking spaces left in the immediately close parking, but we were still seated in less than 4 minutes. Service was great, food was tastey, and portions were stupid. Go here when you are starving and/or want leftovers.
(4)Robert J.
Had broasted chicken. Had ribs. Did that on the basis of the recommendation of a guy in my building. I was not particularly impressed. For sure, the portions are huge. Admittedly, it has been years since I have been there, and it may be better now.
(2)Chuck H.
Nikola's has very good food, fair prices, and they've been great with handling large parties. My only complaints are the stupid spiral bound menus that are full of interspersed ads, and the portions are just HUGE... like box up 75% of your food huge. I'm a big guy and I've never come close to finishing a single meal I've ordered here.
(4)Ashley N.
I have heard about Nikola's for a while now and I FINALLY had a chance to go here this past weekend...and it completely lived up to the hype! DELICIOUS food (my friend and I got the rib slab for two) at GREAT prices and HUGE portions!! Service was good, food was good, overall good great experience!! I'm not sure if it has delivery but they do have carry-out.
(5)Cherice J.
For some reason, when I think of Nikola's I picture the huge buttery garlic bread. Clearly this is the main attraction of Nikola's, but it definitely perks my interest. Nikola's has been around for years, mainly because barbecue is super yummy. Dining here has always been a casual experience, although I have met many family members up here for formal holidays and such. The restaurant is pretty large (it was recently remodeled), so it's pretty good for groups. There is also a banquet room available for private functions. The staff here is pretty attentive and timely. I don't recall having too many complaints, but parking can be a mission...especially during the holiday times.
(4)Scott M.
The first time I went to Nikola's I was pretty impressed with the barbecue. During that time it was clearly the best barbecue that I had had in Detroit, which was a bit strange considering its basically a "Greek based" restaurant. This place is typically crowded, but they get the ribs out to you with the quickness, which makes it easy for a brother thats hungry. I have been back to Nikolas and not been as impressed with the food....its worth a try if you are rib lover though.
(2)RAY S.
The ribs are what they are known for, and I love them. Depending on where I am when I get my craving for some good wet rub ribs, I think of Nikolas. Big portions, a lot of meat on the bones, and of course the awesome BBQ sauce. As sides I always get the big cut broasted potatoes, cole slaw, and garlic toast with an extra BBQ sauce for dipping. The chicken sandwich is really good too! It is served with extra thick cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, and the size able chicken breast is glazed in their original BBQ sauce. They also have a wide variety of really good desserts as well. I have never been disappointed with the food. The staff and service are always expedient. The restaurant is always nice and clean. On certain nights they have a live band or some sort of entertainment. I'm not sure why the 9 mile location closed down because the one on Telegraph is always busy and the food always spectacular?!?! Parking can be a challenge on the weekends, but you will always find a spot no matter what because the strip mall's ample parking behind Nikolas is conjoined to it.

Nikolas is amazing the sauce on those ribs to die for !!! Broasted potatoes and buttery bread YUM
(5)Brian C.
Was in the area and Nikola's was recommended by a friend. Excellent recommendation. Tara was our waitress and she was quick to our table and very responsive to our needs. Our family of three all really enjoyed our meals, pizza, chicken, and fish. The food quality was very good and the variety offered really has something for everyone in the family. After a great meal we were pleasantly surprised by the bill. More than we could eat, excellent service, all at a price that makes you want to come back. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
(4)Bruce B.
Awesome comfort food ! Ribs to die for, catfish perfectly prepared and to top it off collard greens so yummy. Thanks Tom for a great restaurant so perfectly done. Prices are great so easy on the pocket. This spot is bookmarked definitely !

(2)Shunda B.
(4)David J.
(2)Jessica T.
We came for lunch on a Friday (5 ladies). We were in and out within one hour: food was good, big portion and fast service Even though I only a quarter of my sandwich and took the rest togo.
(4)Kelly S.
(3)Debbie Z.
(4)Walt W.
(5)Sean C.
(5)Kevin S.

(1)Britt M.
My family and I go here regularly and it has become a family favorite. I am very picky about where I can go eat and Nikolas passes the test. It's clean, the service is great and most importantly the food is amazing. You wont be disappointed with any of their options. A must try are their Nikola wing and their nachos. To die for!
(5)O G.

(2)Eric S.
(2)Ted J.
Thank you.
(5)Steven H.
went there for new years 2013 Food was just plain horrible, never had chicken wings that bad in my life.

(4)Evie B.
(3)Cecilia C.
(4)Matthew M.
(5)Nicole C.

Let me just say after moving to Ohio in 2010, I always take time to swing by and get some broasted chicken and pasta salad. If I could open a nikolas in Cincinnati I would!
(5)Bruce K.
Best bar b q sauce in town. an average restaurant but keep coming back for the ribs and pork. I always have a bottle of their sauce in my house. the broasted chicken is good, the wings are good. deserts are old school and very tasty.
(4)Betty B.
WOW the portions are HUGE. Reasonably priced. Nice selection of choices.
(3)Kristian L.
Food is always delicious. Best giant nacho ever. Only complaint is the staff, rude unprofessional and less than attentive.
(4)Chelia S.
...hadnt been here in a minute & had forgotten just how great their food is.

@ Nadia W: Exactly what does ghetto mean? Can you use more descriptive words to describe your experience? Thank you.

(5)V. Monki. W.
big portions, decent food. not expensive, make sure to bring a big stomach.
(3)Chuck H.
(5)John N.
(2)Cherice J.

(4)Evie B.
(3)Eric S.
(2)Steven H.
went there for new years 2013 Food was just plain horrible, never had chicken wings that bad in my life.

(4)Thom B.
(2)Brian M.
(5)Leslie K.
I did not have a good experience here. The service was slow and I just had a salad. They could not do separate bills with our party and the waiter was not attentive to us at all. Blah.
(1)Scott M.

We came for lunch on a Friday (5 ladies). We were in and out within one hour: food was good, big portion and fast service Even though I only a quarter of my sandwich and took the rest togo.

Thank you.

Nikolas is amazing the sauce on those ribs to die for !!! Broasted potatoes and buttery bread YUM

My family and I go here regularly and it has become a family favorite. I am very picky about where I can go eat and Nikolas passes the test. It's clean, the service is great and most importantly the food is amazing. You wont be disappointed with any of their options. A must try are their Nikola wing and their nachos. To die for!

Great food...with the exception of the macaroni and cheese. However... that's not why o come....the meats and the Yams are a BIG yes....OK and the desserts are a Yes
(4)David P.

@ Nadia W: Exactly what does ghetto mean? Can you use more descriptive words to describe your experience? Thank you.

(5)Nicole C.

(5)Leslie K.
I did not have a good experience here. The service was slow and I just had a salad. They could not do separate bills with our party and the waiter was not attentive to us at all. Blah.
(4)Thom B.

Awesome comfort food ! Ribs to die for, catfish perfectly prepared and to top it off collard greens so yummy. Thanks Tom for a great restaurant so perfectly done. Prices are great so easy on the pocket. This spot is bookmarked definitely !
(5)Shunda B.

Next time.
(3)Kristian L.
Food is always delicious. Best giant nacho ever. Only complaint is the staff, rude unprofessional and less than attentive.
(4)Betty B.
WOW the portions are HUGE. Reasonably priced. Nice selection of choices.
(3)Julian B.
(2)Ted B.
(5)Sean C.
(4)David J.
