High Blood Pressure at Applebee's
Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. I don't see this location lasting unless there are some extreme changes.

Horrible apathetic service and sub par food. Was at the table for awhile and had to wave down a waitress. My salad came out by another waitress and we had to ask her where our drinks were and she went and got them. We had to go and get our straws off of the waitress stand, should have savored it because it was the only drinks we got. My rib lets were a pile of shredded meat and bones and floppy fries. I will go to the food truck down the street before I ever go back. Pity because it is a great location.
(1)Liz K.
We were greeted rudely. They ran out of chicken. Food was bad, service was bad, water tasted bad. Just bad.
(1)Deniege B.
Poor service. Very slow. Dirty. Definitely not the normal Applebee's. The waitress never came back to check on us and never got out drinks refilled. Food took a long time to come out. Would never go back to this location.
(1)Keisha R.
The staff is very friendly and attentive, drinks are good, food is good too. Welcome to the neighborhood!
(4)Carolyn W.
Service had greatly improved since my last time here. Hopefully it will continue to get even better. It was real bad the first month they were poem. Good luck.

I am a happy frequenter to Applebees! I was all too happy to pick up lunch today for myself and a coworker at this new location near my work!! I ordered our take out from the bar because the carry out server at curbside was overwhelmed with 2 customers, obviously 2 too many. The bartendar was very friendly & very professional !! As I was waiting for our salads I noticed 2 employees sitting in a booth chit chatting not paying attention to anything going on around them. When asked by another employee if they were keeping an eye on the front door, both nodded their head without even looking up. They were not paying attention to anything, but each other, DEFINITELY NOT THE FRONT DOOR! After returning to work we attempted our late lunch. The salads were wilted and basically bare of any toppings that were expected to be on it. We both tossed them and chalked it up as a 1st & last time visit to this location. Id rather go without than spend another waisted shiny penny at this location.!! The bartendar seems to be the only asset for this location.

This is my third time coming to this location and it will be my last. All three times I've come to this location the service have been bad. This first time the tables were dirty and my party and I waited over 10 minutes to have our drink orders put in and now one actually acknowledged that we were there. The second time we came back it was bad service again-long waits and the food was cold. The third time we came the hostess wasn't at the door to seat us and when we finally sat down a fill-in took our drink order then the waiter came and told us he would be 2 minutes before he can come and take our order. In the meantime our drinks came out by a fill-in and we wanted to order 2 more drinks the person didn't even want to take the order. 10 minutes went by and our waiter finally came and that's when I knew I can't come back here. Bad customer service.
(1)Bryan S.
Where is the negative star button? They gave us an estimated wait of 10 minutes... 33 minutes later we were seated. The waitress messed up our drink order, rarely returned to our table and we ordered a medium 9oz steak which came to our table short a couple of ounces and looked as if a McDonalds employee had cooked it. The steak was completely well done. This wouldn't have been a problem had she returned to the table but another 20 minuets went by so we decided to just eat it. Will not be returning, this is our second visit out of two that has been a disappointment. Shame.
(1)Paula Y.
Horrible service! Will NEVER go to that location again. Although the manager was accommodating.. the server was horrible. Slow service food and drinks!
(1)John Mark S.
Not a huge fan of Apple Bees but we decided to go to Military Monday which is a generous 30% off the bill. When we got there the music was a little loud for the families that were there. A little dirty...maybe it was just busy. We had a very nice waitress. A little confused about changing our order after it was put into the system. She gave us $2 off for our trouble. Average restaurant plus open until 2 am.
(3)Kim B.
You can skip this place! Only plus was that our server Chris (female) was very friendly & attentive, aside from that... 1) presentation of the food was less than appealing 2) taste matched the appearance of the food
(1)Veronica M.
We came to celebrate my oldest 22nd bday n we ordered 3 for $12 app n 2 for $25 dinners. It ended up being a lot of food, I couldn't eat my entrée n had to take it home. The service was excellent from Armonni, we really appreciate her. She was very courteous n when we had a few mistakes on our order she quickly handled our issues. Then the staff sang happy bday to Kari. My family had a good nite at Applebee's
(4)Aaron C.
I ordered ahead so I could pick up my lunch at 12:20 but they didn't start preparing it until I arrived at 12:20. While waiting 20 minutes for my lunch I asked for a $50 gift card three different times. The first two times I asked, the bartender acted like she could not have cared less and made no attempt at getting one. The third time I asked at 12:40 (while still waiting for my lunch) she said she'd let the manager know, but never moved from her bar-tending station. The service at this restaurant is vile; the employees wander aimlessly around, clearly wishing they were somewhere else. I am absolutely amazed this Applebee's stays in business. As for the chicken fajita roll-up I ordered for lunch, it and the french fries were served cold and soggy.
(1)Amy H.
My experience was unpleasant because 1) the service was extremely slow and bad, 2) my food tasted bad, 3) my food was cold. First, the service was paiiinfullyyy slow and bad! We must have waited 10 minutes to order, then 30 minutes for our food to come out. Also, our server Deshawn did not seem to know about the Yelp check-in offer and thought we had to be sitting AT the bar to get the free bar snack. Not true, we insisted so he checked and we were right. There seemed to be A LOT of servers compared to customers, yet our server always seemed to be somewhere else. And if you're going to advertise and run specials for checking in on social media, the servers need to be knowledgeable about them, not seem like it's the first time they heard of them. Second, my food tasted like I tried to cook and failed. I had the healthy under 600 calorie Steakhouse Bruschetta Sirloin with a side of roasted potatoes. Potatoes tasted like nothing, and the steak was tough and not seasoned well. And my dish looked nothing like their photo. Same for the BF's Mac and cheese entree...it was tiny and cold. Third, my food was COLD. Deshawn passed by our table several times as we looked at him, expecting him to tell us why our food was so delayed. He said our food would be out "shortly." It wasn't, and when it came out it was COLD. I would have sent my food back, but I didn't want to WAIT ANY LONGER. I ate part of it and left still hungry. Not worth the $13.99. I went to Baskin Robbins and got their flavor of the month SNACKNADO and felt better. This was one of my worst dining experiences in a long time.
(1)John Y.
It's a good place to come to they really improved sense the last visit to be honest with myself it well still take time for them to be a five star rating as far service goes
(4)David G.
If you like blaring music at the bar and a staff that disapears this is your kind of place. The server didnt know how to ring up the 3 for $12 properly so the food came in stages. Then she just vanished into thin air. Had to get someone else to ring us up and get a box. Stay away from the sirloin healthy selection just gross and soggy. Now i know why its called Crapplebees. This was at around 8:30 friday night.
(1)Sharon S.
Just ok. Will choose another Apple Bee's next time. Paid too much to have just ok service.
(2)Heidi S.
Great atmosphere, service was fast and the food was great! Server asked great questions to get me to the right meal and drink.
(5)Andrew C.
Forgot to mention: We observed a waitress walking towards a nearby service station, and she noticed a crumpled napkin on the ground. She tries to kick it along to the station, but by doing so, drops a ramekin of sauce all over the floor. She then returns to half-assed mop up the sauce, but leaves the original napkin. Honestly, if you want comedy, a long wait and terrible food, this spot's for you!
(1)Ross H.
So I am ending my Daddy and daughter day....."Daddy let's go there I wanna try their food!" Sure as a dad would do we pulled into the APPLEBEE's of Southfield on Southfield road. My daughter and I step in and it is semi busy but looks like they have enough staff to handle the flow. 3:23pm we are seated.. the nice hostess gives us our menus and flat ware. tic toc tic toc tic toc 3:52 "Daddy were is our server?" This is after she and I had completed coloring the kids menu. "I am not sure baby girl, put your coat on and let's go." Yes folks we did not even get a water or a pop or a "Hey I am your server and I will be with you in a few." Excuse me, who is your manager?"MIKE" So mike I did not feel like talking to you or any other Manager on Duty. You have a whole lot of servers and cleaners doing nothing. Way to many tables there that were dirty or the floor underneath was dirty. In your next team meeting let your staff know. If you give great attention to the little things for costumers they would get better tips and you would not have folks walking out on your service. Really this place needs a ZERO star.
(1)Robyn L.
First thing the waitress said was "I can start you with some drinks but our Kitchen is extremely backed up and the food may take a while." I should have left the moment she said that! Applebee's has never been my favorite place but this is a new location and worth a try... A try that failed. We were in here for 2 hours our Chips and Salsa appetizer was mainly chips from 'the bottom of the bag' all broken pieces, our food took forever and we felt ill after we left! I will not be returning... Bad service, Bad Food and Slow as Molasses!
(1)Joe E.
I was very happy to have an Applebee's open up in our neighborhood to give us a choice instead of just the coney's in the area for something later at night. I am a local truck driver and work 12 to 14 hours a day 6 days a week so as you can imagine it can be hard to find a place to have dinner with my wife. We arrived at 12:30am. The kitchen closes at 1am and the place closes at 2am. We were greeted promptly and seated near the bar and our server Nakia T was almost waiting at the table with menus and a big smile. She took our drink orders and left us to choose from the menu. When she returned with our drinks she asked if we had any questions and then took our order. My wife ordered the Riblets and I ordered the Double Barrel Whiskey steaks. The drinks were excellent, I had a Sidecar and my wife had the Perfect Sangria Margarita. Our meals came and both were done well, as ordered and very tasty. I really couldn't ask for much more. And now to the reason for only a two star review. About halfway through our meal some of the staff got off work and sat at the bar right next to us. They were soon talking and joking with the bartenders and each other and the noise level kept going up. Soon they were almost yelling and my wife and I couldn't even hear each other or the server. I told our server how uncomfortable it was getting and asked if she could do something about it. It wasn't till I told her I needed my check because it had gotten so bad I just wanted to leave that she went over and asked them to quiet down. One of the staff turned and apologized, but seriously by that time my mood was ruined.
(2)Julian B.
Great service from David. My mom askd a million questions. Food was good. I got a burger and mom got the lunch shrimp pasta deal. Burger and fries were both tasty. I added Onion strings to a regular burger. Only complaint was both the burger and fries were lukewarm. Tasted some of her Caesar salad. Solid. Pasta dish looked unappealing. I may make this an occassional spot for drinks and catch some of the game since there are tvs all around. Menu leaves much to be desired like many of these chains. Great happy hour specials on food and drinks. Very fair drink prices. Perfect sangria margarita was a star. Will be back for that. There were a couple other snafus but I let it slide since they just opened.
(3)Rhonda L.
We walked in to hear the jukebox at full volume. We were greeted by the hostess who told us we had to sit at a table because the next waitress only served tables - not booths!!! We ordered the Mac and Cheese and were able to drink 2 full glasses of pop before it was served. The food was cold and the 'single' breadstick was still half frozen. We consumed what we could, paid our bill and walked past the hostess station without even receiving a 'have a nice night' because they were to busy chatting with each other to acknowledge our existence!!
(1)Latea O.
I love the 3 for 12 appetizers !! However, they bring all of them our at once, meaning they are not as hot as they could be.
(4)Regina F.
The boneless wings with the Asian sauce were very good. Both entrees were served in good time and hot. Employees were very attentive. Our waitress name Rae was very nice.
(4)Sandy V.
Service was TERRIBLE. We waited 40 minutes after getting our food never to hear from our server. I flagged him down finally, and he took another 20 minutes just to get us our check. The reason he took so long is because he was flirting with EVERY female employee that walked by! It was disgusting and unprofessional. I complained to the manager as I had somewhere to be, and she seemed unconcerned with the issue. Paid, left, will NEVER return.
(1)Sholá S.
Our server, Amani, was great! The restaurant was a bit crowded but we were seated fast and our food came on time. Great food and service overall. My family had a good time.
(5)Evëttë R.
Today 1/2/15 I placed a curb side to go order. First when I placed the order the workers were playing around with the phone trying to snatch the phone from the guy who was taking my order. I was told it would be 15 minutes. Well I got there in 20 minutes and still it was not ready. I waited an additional 5 minutes before leaving. I also left because the workers seemed less than professional.
(1)Diana F.
First off if i could give this place no stars it would be ZERO. We were very excited about an Applebee's close by. But were very disappointed with the service. First we get there and we are parents so we are shoved in the back corner by the bathrooms. Our waitress didn't even know to take a drink order before food, was snarky cause when we ordered she didn't ask about what sides and I had the nerve to ask about what kind of poatatoes. She brought out our drinks with the appetizers but left the kids in the back till they brought out their food. And crying thirsty kids is no fun... I never saw her in between once or I would have asked for them. We had to ask twice for refills and then sat over 25mins waiting on the bill. With 3 YOUNG kids. No sorry for the wait nothing. My husband decided to tip her very hefty even after all that. And guess what she her grabbed the bill and money looked down at it, counted it and walked away. No thank you. No have a good night. SO RUDE! (We know waitresses live off their tips) he still gave her 22% way over what an average tip is. Do yourself a favor and don't go to this one. The ones further away are worth the drive. There were many people in there tonight complaining. The manager was at 5 different tables on our side alone.
(1)Andrea S.
I wanted to love this place. I really, really did! It's so conveniently located and open late nights. It was a huge disappointment. Service was slow, food was subpar at best. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger, it was about the size of a regular cheese burger from McDonalds. The prices wouldn't be bad if you got more than a fast food like value meal. Very disappointing...won't be visiting again anytime soon. It gets two stars, merely for location, hours of operation and cleanliness.
(2)Pero R.
I've been in Applebee's many times here in Michigan and Windsor, but never experienced so slow and lousy service. The guy who served us worked as bartender as well. We waited for about 5 minutes for someone to give us the menu and water, additional 10 minutes for drinks and when we finally ordered we waited around 40 minutes for something that the waiter said will take no more than 7 minutes... That guy was nowhere to be found! We did not want to finish our dinner there and won't be returning for sure.
(1)Cierra D.
Horrible!! Didn't get our water until being seated for 45 minutes! The waitresses are rude and unprofessional, the manager was walking around eating with her chest tattoos showing (very unprofessional). We finally got our food after 2 hours!!! They didn't apologize for the wait or anything. The bill was incorrect. The only thing I have good to say is the greeter was pleasant. I will not waste my time nor money here again!!!

beware, not a family restaurant. i took my elderly parents to this newly opened applebee's in southfield michigan and first thing as you open the front door is the blaring music. so loud i had a hard time communicating to hostess. not just corporate music but rap music. should have been a hint to leave but i had a coupon and was determined to try this place because of its tv commercials. sitting down four menus were placed in front of each of us. come on applebees four fuckin menus to go through. we sat for 20 minutes and no one came to our table to ask about drink order but people that were seated after us were taken care of by a waitress. screw the coupon, tore it in two got up and left. went up to hostesses station and explained why we are leaving and was laughed at. never will go to another applebees and will tell others about experience.

I was very pleased with the music and wait staff and food quality. The food and drinks came in a timely manner. I still hate that certain appetizers have been taken off the menu and the portions for our food items seemed smaller. I had to request more chips for my artichoke dip since I was given so few. I will return for more delicious food soon.

Well... Where to start, I have always been a fan of Applebee's but this location puts the name to shame. It took our server maybe 15 minutes to come to our table-- so a different server came over to take our drink orders. The restaurant wasn't that busy but you would have thought that every table had people with how slow everything was. A hair was found in the grilled cheese, my fries came at the end of our meal and drink refills took a long time. Overall, very displeased with the service.

Our family decided to try this Applebee's that just opened on Southfield Rd and Twelve Mile Rd in Southfield. We walked in during a Lions game and worried it would be too busy. We were seated right away with menus but it took 10 minutes to get our drink order..that's only because the bartender, DJ, came to help us. She said our waitress would be with us shortly. It took 20 minutes for the bartender to come back and take our order because our waitress was too busy to check in with us ever. While we waited, Trevon from the bar came to replenish our drinks. Our food came out about 20 minutes later. It was hot and delicious. The All-In American standard burger was the top choice at our table. I don't think highly of the waitress who was MIA and whom we never met but DJ and Trevon helped us and checked in and impressed us. They were the saving grace for our visit. Had DJ not taken the time to help us, we were ready to walk out. Very nice visit after that. Another complaint was the TVs were way too loud. We could barely hear each other at our table. I get that the football game was on but when that ended, the Simpson's came on. Not what I want to hear at dinner on a Sunday night. Also, for the complaints we had, the manager never stopped by to check in with us though the placard on the table said the manager stops by or you get a $5 certificate. We got neither. DJ and Trevon are definitely assets to your company. The rest of the staff needs some work and customer service training.

The food and atmosphere here is pretty good. Our waitress made a few mistakes, like incorrectly calculating our bill total, but she checked on us several times; we never had to ask for napkins or refills. The service was definitely not as bad as other are claiming, but I did notice a customer who was NOT happy and demanded a manager. We ordered an appetizer deal where we were able to build a sampler with 5 choices for $16. All of it was good and the 2 of us had leftovers for home. I will be back, but the place has some clear room for improvement.

The service is horrible, I was very excited that Applebee's was moving to the neighborhood. However the Southfield location has quickly changed my mind. Extremely disappointed

Me and my family were really excited to see Applebees open up near by. Decided to go for dinner and check it out. What a zoo! Right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. After waiting for 20 min for a table, we finally were seated. The waitress informed us that its busy and there will be a wait for food. At that time we should have gotten up and left. Ordered drinks and it took 30 min for them to get to us. By that time i was irritable and kids were starving. There was a table in front of us who arrived later and got their food and drinks before us. It was really disappointing! I had asked to speak to the manager. He came by and thought all of this was a funny joke. There was no reassurance from him nor any remorse. At that time i got up, said that's it we are leaving, while the staff looked surprised( like, why??? what did we do?). To top all that off, after waiting for a table and drinks and food for over 1.5hrs, they handed me a bill for two drinks( which i paid). What a shame. Real management needs to step in and get these issues resolved. This location will be closed if somethings don't change.

Hello, I have decided to try Applebee's for a second time within the last six day. I was greeted by a host by the name of Stacey. She had a warm a friendly greeting and a smile. She walked me and my mother to our table and explained to us the specials for today. Our server name was Whitney. I can tell she had a poor attitude when she came to the table. She was not enthused about waiting on us. Then I saw the manager Tim and asked him to wait on us. He made sure our food came out the way we liked it. We left Whitney a 10% tip. We wanted to tip Tim the Manager, but he refused. He stated that it was his pleasure to take care of us and gave 2 five dollar off cards and asked us to come back. Whitney has a poor attitude and needs to be trained in customer service.
