Nick's is a bit deceiving from the outside. It's very friendly and cozy inside. I do like the up-north hunting feel with nice mounts on the walls. The servers are top notch. The food I've never had anything but the steak here and once you have any of their cuts, you'll know why. I'm not sure what's in their seasoning blend, but it's killer. Every time I've been to Nick's my steak has been cooked perfectly. Hard to find that anywhere that's not charging top dollar. The vegetables are always fresh as well. Drinks They pour a good drink here. Anywhere that has a heavy hand on the cocktails has an immediate advantage. This is a definite steak place. If you come in looking for something else, I guess you get what you get. I wouldn't order a steak from a seafood restaurant. My wife and I come here at least a couple times a month.

Everything was good during our meal, waitress was very nice. French onion soup was ok but my husband loves it. Both got prime rib, very good, liked the seasoning... First timers but would come again

Stopped there because we were ready for lunch and it was there. Sandwiches were loaded and well-prepared - delicious! Price was very reasonable for the combination of quantity & quality. Next time I am in the neighborhood this will definitely be my place to go for lunch!

What I missed most while away for the winter was the wonderful lunches at Nicks. Yes, the decor is that of a hunter, trophy heads proudly displayed, but the food is great. Lunch specials start at $6.95 for great sandwiches with steak fries or salad, a great non salty onion soup or a tasty bowl of soup of the day, and 6-8 other specials that change daily. On Wednesdays for example, they usually have corned beef and cabbage with boiled potatoes and a bowl of soup or a salad for about $7.50; a wonderful pan or deep fried Grouper with fresh veg and potato, salad or soup for about $9.50; and other specials for between $7-10. Don't miss their Mess of Perch if you love fish. Food is much better than any chain, service is good. You will see many business persons here for lunch, and many lunch reunion groups. We know where the good food is, and has been for years.

The spinach dip was a little too cheesy, bread was great, steak was tender, potatoes were bland. The menu was more upscale than the restaurant. The decor has a "diner" vibe, not steakhouse. I did not like that every (7-8) dessert option was chocolate.
Okay so I'm not sure if I went on an off day but I would say that 3 stars is the highest rating this place deserves. Now I'm not saying it was terrible at all but a better word to describe this place is confusing. From the decor to the menu to the consistency of the food it was all a bit puzzling. So to get down to it. The food was priced at what you'd pay at a nicer steak house but the quality and freshness was lacking. Food came the the table luke warm and lacked in seasoning where it was needed. Sadly the server was a bit on the stern side but perhaps she was having an off day. There were those in our party that rather liked the food and others that were so let down they didn't even finish their steak. Maybe I'd go here again if someone else was treating but that's about it.

Our daughter is in from Hollywood California, every time we come here without her, we mention how much she would love the bread, tonight would be her night. Arrived at 6pm, still plenty of seating, charming hostess gave us a nice table with Polly ,whom we have had before & would be perfect for our evening. Daughter ordered Parmesan encrusted chicken over rice pilaf & a crock of french onion soup $14 A+ The bride ordered a Burger, Steak Fries & a crock of french onion soup A+ cooked perfectly $9 I ordered the Mess of Perch, red skin potatoes & a crock of french onion soup A+ $14 Also miss Polly overheard us chatting up the bread & brought us two very fresh hot loaves & the legendary flavored butter ,each served on their own cutting boards. One other noteworthy fact, the tarter sauce that came with the mess of perch was homemade & GREAT!

Where to start. Ordered a Opa (flaming cheese). Was not cooked all the way. Service was poor waited 20 minutes to clear table after app and soups. No one asked if food was ok. Ordered the Bull Shooter. 26 oz porterhouse. (Don't do it) would have got a better steak at Nationals Coney Island. Not sure if they even use real coke syrup possibly Leonard's syrup. Mashed potatoes are a big negative. Red skins are good. Only reason they got 2 stars is due to the lamb chops. They are good. This is not a steak house. It's a diner at best. Once again. 1st, service was poor (wasn't busy) 2nd, cheese not cooked 3rd, steak was 8 mile coney quality. I expect more after spending $170 for 3 people and 1 drink.

The atmosphere wont overwhelm you because its a steakhouse, family restaurant, sports bar trying to be all at the same time. If you can get past that the food will make it worth the trip. We had 2 well prepared, well priced steaks and she had a mixed drink all with salads and secondary entree choices for $49.00 bucks plus gratuity...... Very good go to type place where it is the food and not the atmosphere you are after.

I've driven by this place for years and never been in. Boy am I glad we finally checked it out. Fantastic food! Family dinner on a Friday night. Wife got the seafood medley and really enjoyed it. I got the ahi tuna avocado. It was ridiculously good. Kids meals were standard fare but priced right. We got a side order of frog legs for the kids to try. Four legs was $5 and that was a bit pricey. Andrea our server was terrific. Overall a very good experience.

Awesome food, service and atmosphere, loved it all! We ordered the shrimp cocktail and calamari, both very tasty. For dinner both my husband and I ordered the "Mess of perch". They give you a LOT of perch, it was very lightly breaded and pan fried, delicious! Perfectly cooked and not greasy at all. This is the second time we have eaten here and haven't had anything at all we didn't like. We'll definitely be back.
Best PRIME RIB around! A little pricey, but well worth the price. Generous amount of meat. He doesn't put the spices on it like he does the steaks. The steaks are great!, but you don't need the extra spices.

Atmosphere is confusing... between trying to be elegant as a steakhouse and too comfy like a coney and kinda lodge with taxidermy everywhere. However, getting past that, the food is what matters... and it was disappointing. Other than the saganaki cheese which I enjoyed thoroughly, I had a Caesar salad and a French Dip sandwich. The dressing on the salad had a decent consistency, but it was too sweet... Caesar dressing should not be sweet. To give you an idea, it tasted like if it had a bit of mayo and honey mustard ... gah... Anyway, the salad wasn't the biggest disappointment. The biggest disappointment in my dinner was the French Dip. I expect the bread on a good French Dip to be of good density, flavor, and toast.. this bread I got reminds me of a high school football game food stand ... just not up to par, but it was decently toasted, I will give them that. The meat is described in the menu as shaved steak or something of the sort... what really came out was pretty much what you taste at Arby's... very bland... very run-of-the-mill average mass-bought charcuterie from Gordon Food Service or worse... just flavorless... uninteresting... there's many ways you can liven up a bland piece of meat, but in this case it was just thrown together in a bun and called it good... the Au Jus was also very flavorless... probably just canned beef stock with a few onions... Fries were frozen... You can't tell me frozen fries represent any kind of savings for a restaurant... natural potatoes are of the cheapest food out there, and it doesn't take that much to cut potatoes and fry those instead of going with frozen food.. What's even worse, my lady ordered a burger... and it was clear the patty was frozen, the mushrooms on the burger were canned... This is certainly not the right content for a restaurant that charges almost 25 dollars for the afore-mentioned food. I don't see myself returning.

Not sure how this place gets 5 stars. It's just okay. I've been here for dinner several times over the past 10 years or so. It's good for boring, what you'd expect food at a reasonable price. It was a favorite of my grandma. Went with one of my friends the other night because we were lazy and wanted something close...and she had a coupon for a free appetizer. Our server was nice, but gave us a hard time about using the coupon for no good reason. We tried the spinach artichoke dip. Watery and tasteless. I had the french onion soup. It had a huge bay leaf in it. Also not much taste. Side salad actually had mixed greens instead of the iceberg I expected. Nice plus. I might come back with another coupon for a cheap meal.

I have to say this first. I AM NOT A FISH PERSON. My sister lives in Utica and I met her and her husband at Nick's a few months ago. They recommended the grouper but as I said - since I'm NOT A FISH PERSON - I declined. She gave me a bite of her fish and I was sold. I was back just the other day and this time ordered the grouper. It was wonderful. The lunch started with a loaf of hot bread, a nice salad, a good size piece of grouper and steamed broccoli. I was told that for dinner the piece of fish is even bigger. The lunch size was more than enough for me. I don't know about the rest of their food but I can recommend the grouper highly. The waitresses are friendly and efficient.

So we stopped here tonight for dinner. It's funny how many times we've driven past here and never saw this hidden gem! The waitstaff are super sweet and accommodating. Doesn't look like much from outside, and when you walk inside, it looks like a classier diner, only way I can describe it. But it's pleasant and clean, nothing about It bothers me at all. They bring warm fresh bread with cherry butter to start! I ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich with steak fries, it was perfection! The fries were rthick like red Robin, and cooked perfectly. Got a side of ranch in a gravy boat, no charge and it was yum! The chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly and was a big portion, hung off the bun! You can go deluxe and get fries and soup for 2$ they don't charge extra for French onion either! That soup was so delicious! Loved it and will definitely return. Try it you won't regret it!

Meh, ok but not worth the price. The French onion soup had cinnamon in it...who the heck puts cinnamon in French onion soup? Bread at the table was nice. I had swordfish steak...overcooked. The broccoli was steamed a little on the raw side, but that's the way I like it. My wife had grouper...it was done nicely but obviously frozen fish. We won't be coming back.

Not only did I check the ratings on this place before I came here...I h ad to question the lunch menu......until Sue the bartender stood firm in her recommendation on this place....oh yes a must have on your list of steakhouses.....the Filet was amazing and so was the Chicken Alfredo....stop in at lunch time and see Sue the bartender the people are amazing and so is the food

The decor was something out of a old Denny's with very dim lights BUT the food, drinks and dessert is where it's at without the exorbitant tag. Undeniably a must try on the list if you appreciate quality food. Portions were satisfying, price was surprisingly reasonable for the quality and the beer was ice cold! I plan to return with the kids. My 5 year old son has a fondness for bread; Nick's was impressive served with warm honey butter. I know he will be pleased.

Bland. If I had to use one word to describe Nick's, it would be bland. The food was decent, but a little pricey. The service was OK, but not stellar. But it was bland. I ordered the French Onion Soup, Mashed Potatoes, and Prime Rib. I love French Onion Soup, but couldn't finish this one. The taste just wasn't right. It didn't have that savory taste of a good French Onion Soup. With the Mashed Potatoes, I should have known when the waitress suggested gravy. Good mashed potatoes don't need gravy. When they arrived, they looked liked boxed mashed potatoes. They weren't but they were just about as bland. (I saved most of them to bring home to doctor up with garlic, butter, and perhaps parmesan. They weren't poor quality, just bland. Update: I was right. Added butter and finely chopped fried garlic to make them really good. The chefs can change the recipe and thank me later.) The Prime Rib was technically cooked perfectly. It was a really nice shade of reddish-pink, just as I like it. Thankfully, there was no fake smoke taste like some restaurants. Unfortunately, while some restaurants season or herb the crust, Nick's doesn't. The wine selection also left a bit to be desired. For glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon, they only offer Rodney Strong. This is sort of the "safe" Cabernet offered at many midrange restaurants, but it really isn't a very good one. So I settled for a Chateau Ste Michelle Merlot as I hadn't tried that before. Too many tannins in that wine for a merlot. They need a new wine steward. My wife got the Chicken Marsala. She described the sauce as "weird" and the rice was bland. She did like the Cream of Mushroom Soup. The bread with cherry butter was very good, but there could have been more. We did really enjoy the Sander's Hot Fudge Ice Cream Puff Sundae. We agreed that was well done and delicious. This was the best part of our meal. We did notice that the clientele was mostly older people and suspect this is because of the bland food. Nick's had a sort of Bill Knapp's style blandness to it. The food was all technically done very well. Things were just the right temperature and there was nothing prepared incorrectly. It isn't the chefs, but the recipe that needs changing. I don't think we'll be back. It's too expensive for an only OK meal. Or maybe we'll return when we are old and our tastebuds have died.

My better half and I have been coming here for years! The food is fantastic, served by the most personable and friendly waitstaff in all of Southern Michigan. The Quinney Salad is outstanding! Hubby loves their Liver & Onions, yuck! Which I wouldn't or couldn't eat if it was the last meal served to me before I died!

I have never ordered a bad meal at Nick's. Their food is always spot on. Like many restaurants, Nick's serves bread, but I love that it comes with whipped cherry butter. Mmmm, someday I have to figure out how to make my own! I have ordered everything from fajitas to pasta to salad here. It's all fantastic. My only complaint about Nick's is it's lack of atmosphere. IMO there isn't much of a lively crowd because of it. I think they would busier if they tried appealing to people under 40. Anyways their food and service is fabulous- check them out!

Had dinner yesterday evening with my wife and one if my children. Main courses took a bit long to come out, but we stayed patient. My dish (chicken picante) was extremely salty, I tried to advise my server but she wasn't around till my wife and child had finished there meal. So I explained the problem and she said she would have a new one made. When she returned with the replacement she said that the chef doesn't even use salt, so she wasn't sure how it could of been salty. I took the dish to go because didn't want my family to be any longer. I was charged full price. I wish I was at least given the option to opt out if the replacement dish.

This place is always on point. I never really had a bad experience here food and service is always good. Some people say that this place is pricey, but I don't think it is. For the quality and good tasting food is well worth it and cheaper then these high end steak houses plus tastes better then some of the high end places. Give it a try, this is one of my go to local spots when I want a steak or prime rib.

Love this place. I've been a steak consumer since I've had teeth. Besides my mothers steaks in the summer, Nicks is the place to go when you want a steak. I promise you I will never go to outback or any other so called "steakhouse" as long as Nicks is around. Please take my word and go there. I had the cowboy ribeye steak which filled me up and I'm a big eater. Fair prices and a friendly staff. Just writing this makes me crave a steak!

I have been going to Nick's for a long time. Every item that I eat there is amazing. When they have seasonal specials, the owner has come out to ask me how I liked the butternut squash soup! They make great steaks, salads and appetizers. The best thing there, however, is the smoked salmon. I believe it is served only on a salad & on a sandwhich, not as an entree item. I literally dream about this smoked salmon. It is not dried out, but lightly smoke and still moist & flakey. If you dig smoked fish, try the salad with the greek dressing. I promise you will be happy. The atmosphere is laid back & comfy. Not too loud, and there's a patio if you want to sit outside. Great go-to place with good food for the money you spend.

Also my brother's fillet was cooked correctly and I tasted it and that too was GREAT !!! The waitress was kinda quick too that she ( Jennifer ) was young and they were busy too at 7 PM ish .....they got my business in the future for sure ,,,,, and yes their bread loaf comes warm on a cutting board and is awesome with 2 kinds of butters !!!!!

Like many other reviewers, I found the atmosphere to be the most off-putting thing about this restaurant. The main dining room screams of family night. The décor is outdated and cheap looking, from the ugly chairs to the plywood-looking booths. My husband and I enjoy sitting in the bar area. We eat at the bar in a LOT of restaurants and find that Nick's bartenders are the most unfriendly around. They never chit-chat or get to know the customer. We have even heard that topic discussed at other restaurants regarding Nick's bartending staff. Maybe they are too busy, but a friendly bartender draws us from one place to another when we are making our Friday night restaurant choice. In all fairness, the last time we ate at Nick's, our bartender was very pleasant and friendly. The food at Nick's is quite good. Their version of bang bang shrimp (I believe they call it kaboom shrimp) is the best around. Unfortunately, it is not on their permanent menu but only occasionally offered as a special appetizer. Their bread and seasoned butter is yummy, and their steaks are tasty. Again, the problem is being charged steakhouse prices when you're sitting in an outdated, family style restaurant being served by Crabby Patty. Nick's would benefit GREATLY from a serious facelift.

I was expecting something a bit better from this place. At first glance the restaurant looks ok, but then you see some of the décor choices and realize you are in a sports bar/lodge/diner? That aside, our waitress was friendly and prompt. We started off by ordering saganaki and 2 palomas We heard the bartender and all of the waitstaff twittering about not knowing what a paloma was or how to make it, and it showed; they were awful, and we had to send them back. The saganaki was good and the warm pita it came out with was decent. For entrees My friend ordered a French dip sandwich, and I had a hamburger with mushrooms added. The hamburger was clearly a frozen pattie that they had warmed up and the mushrooms were canned....I'm still having indigestion 4 hours later. My friend's French dip was even more depressing. They served him flavorless roast beef on bland bread and the ju on the side tasted like canned beef broth that had been warmed up. Overall, if our waitress hadn't been so nice, and we hadn't ordered the saganaki, this would have been a 1 star for me, especially given the price.
