I heard about this place from my friends. The host was great. She was very friendly. The food was alright. I ordered Lanna fried rice and my wife ordered Sriracha noodles. I did not feel the flavors represented Thai food.

UPDATE: I have been coming here for a couple years now..2-3 times per month. The food is STILL fabulous and tasty as ever. My only issue has always been serving the Spring Rolls in a glass with sauce on the bottom. It irritates me because I don't like the sauce. If that's all I have to complain about after 2 years...Cool with me!

I really hope going to Groupon to drum up business works for this place. Lanna Thai is really, really, really good. My girlfriend bought the Groupon for this place and we finally decided to use it over the weekend. Normally if a place needs to go to Groupon it's for a reason. Food sucks, service is terrible, etc. Not Lanna Thai. The food here was PHENOMENAL! I was shocked. This place is right up here with Pi's in my book. Fresh and delicious! My Lanna rice was easily the best rice dish I've ever had. I wish i was eating it right now. Our server was young, like parents dropped her off for work young but she was really good. She was overly polite and very attentive. She would crack jokes with us and seemed to enjoy her job. I have no qualms recommending this place to anyone. Truly one of the best thai restaurants in the area. Go eat here and keep this place alive. I will be back for sure.

Stopped in around 7:30pm on a Friday after our first choice was closed. I think we came in just after their dinner rush - we were greeted by one of the owners, who said that he'd just gotten there and needed to clean a table off before he could seat us, though the restaurant was mostly empty. The service was the star of the show - the owner was talkative and helpful, while our server (his wife, I believe?) brought us our food with a smile. We didn't lack for water at all, and boxes and check were both prompt. The food was not as amazing as the service, but it was still very good. We were brought a slightly spicy rice soup that was extremely good on a chilly day. Our appetizer of Curry Puffs were mediocre - they used an outer pastry shell that I've only seen used on pastys before, which made them a little funny to handle, and the stuffing was just so-so. My Massaman had quite a few carrots, no peanuts, and lacked the avocado that the menu listed (not usually a Massaman ingredient, so I was interested to see what it'd be like). The chunks of potato were large, but cooked very well, and the flavor of the entire dish was good. My wife really enjoyed her noodle bowl - she was expecting something soupier because of the "bowl" label, but it was thick like Pad Thai and very well-flavored. Compared to most of our other Thai experiences, the portions were a little smaller and a couple dollars more expensive. As friendly as the people are, though, you feel good about supporting a worthwhile local business. We'll be back.

The service and the owners/staff makes the food taste better, not that it needs it. The food tastes like a home cooked Thai meal and I can't get enough of it. I usually get the Pinky Fried Rice and I've never been disappointed by it. I would thoroughly recommend Lanna Thai. It's the best Thai food I've ever had. Great job!

Plenty of places in the area make Thai, but for me you have places that just make it and it tastes just like 5 ingredients thrown together. Others places its much more then that, the food has a nice groove you can taste. The Thai-crack zone. I find Lani sometimes can hit close to the zone. I've had some really good dishes, I just couldn't get enough of and then others it's was just decent. In the area it's above most and for area towards top end. The inside is nice and has changed over the years. I also think owners changed 4 years ago. Before I remember the inside was like someone's living room, with a huge TV, but now the places is pretty cool, has very Thai feel with the wood decor. Also from what I remember the food is way better now.

I was very, very disappointed with the service I received when I took a guest with me to show off Shelby Township's best Thai restaurant. Caucasian waitresses ignored us throughout the meal, I couldn't get their attention and was finally tired and got my own silverware and napkins from another table, was irritated with how they served our Tom Yum soup which she served on the go at the edge of our table, and the food tasted as if the spices were just thrown in and not cooked well. The only saving grace of our whole experience was that a woman (who seemed Thai and maybe the owner) asked if we'd like to have some ice cream on the house which allowed me to leave there with a little bit of peace.

I had tried this place many years ago and wasn't impressed. Not sure if they switched owners at some point, or if I just hit them on a bad day, but this year I've made a few stops here at lunchtime, since it's near my work. I'm glad I gave them another shot, because now the food is always top notch. Spice is good, but not overly heavy handed (medium is enough to leave some heat on your tongue, but not so hot that you can't eat it). Food is flavorful and those spring rolls! They're fantastic. I've really enjoyed everything I've tried in the last 6 months...

Such a neat little hole in the wall place. I'm a big fan of thai food and I loved it here. I got the pineapple pad thai which was good, but I was expecting more a sweet pineapple kick that I didn't get :( I also ordered the Sriracha Noodles which weren't as hot as I thought they would be. Everything still tasted SO good, I'll be back!

Pulled in here on a whim - WOW! Their food is some of the best Thai, I've had; and I eat a lot of Thai. The Tom Yum, best ever! The Tom Kai (coconut soup), delicious! Husband had the Lana Fried Rice, perfect spices, I think I would get that next time. I had the Pinky Fried Rice, also delicious! I had it medium and it was the perfect spiciness. I will be back - probably sooner than later. The restaurant is tucked back in S.E. Corner of the strip mall. Excellent, excellent Thai!!!!

Great home cooked Thai Food! I visited for the first time by using a Groupon and I have been back here to get more Thai Food! The servings are pretty big and the food is as authentic as it can get. The owner is very friendly and took good care of us. Fried Ice cream was just a little on the greasy side :)

I bought a Groupon for Lanna a few weeks ago, so DH and I decided a freezing Saturday evening would be the perfect time to use it. We arrived to find two other tables occupied around 7:30 and were promptly welcomed to have our choice of seats. I found the booth to be uncushioned = uncomfortable, but the restaurant itself appeared clean. We ordered the chicken satay with peanut sauce and one other sauce, the red curry with chicken and the pad see ew with beef. There was also a complimentary rice soup, which was very nice for a cold day. We found the satay to be fresh and the peanut sauce to be very flavorful. We both liked our entrees and the size of the entrees was on par with other Thai restaurants in the area, given the price point. I found the pad see ew to be less sweet than others and DH preferred Lanna's version more. The red curry was flavorful and the mix of coconut milk and curry is just to die for anyways. Upon paying the bill we even received a set of coupons to use for our next visit!

Great Thai restaurant in the local area. I had the vegetable Thai rice and got it at a medium spice level, I shared with my friend who got the pad Thai at a medium+. Both were very delicious. The fried rice seemed a bit more spicey than the pad Thai. Great flavored, great service. The owner gave out free ice cream before we left and was very nice to all of us, calling us by our names for the special personal touch. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I love this little restaurant. :D It's a tiny little hole in the wall that you might miss if you didn't know to look for it, but it cranks out some serious flavor and the owner is always there and very friendly. I've been there twice now for 2 lunch outings, and admittedly got the same exact thing because it was so good the first time! To start I got the rice soup. It's very flavorful and hearty. It reminds me of the perfect soup for a cold day or when you aren't feeling tip top. It's got plently of fresh ginger in it too, which is something I love. My date got the tom kha soup and while it's very good, we felt it was a little too salty. Next we got the spring rolls. The presentation when they come out is beautiful and my goodness are they tasty! I love how crisp they are and the sweet and sour sauce in the bottom is well balanced and not overly sweet. The entree we eventually decided on was the Pad pak. We ordered it medium hot and it was perfect for us. We love decently spicy food! I loved how many different vegetables were in this dish and how they still had a really satisfying crunch to them without being undercooked. The sauce was flavorful and well balanced, and the rice, served on the side, was tasty and plentiful. I'll be back.

Love coming here with my coworkers! Dine in to get the full experience. The staff is so nice and fast so you won't be late back to work if you're on your break like I usually am. You can never go wrong with their pad thai, it's my go to meal.

Solid 4 stars for the food and 5 stars for the service. Pros: Service, Service, Service- They understand that when your glass is empty- fill it before I ask. Pad Thai- the noodles are al dente and not mushy (a little sweet - but I like it). They have a Pad Thai special for $6 on M-W nights Panang Curry (Medium spice is a true medium) Cons: I don't think there is AC or very limited AC in here. It was a little hot inside, but once you sat down- it was fine. Notes: They have a limited menu- but I like that. I hate it when restaurants have a huge Cheesecake Factory Menu- but they can't get it right. There is no sushi here, just good Thai Food. I do wish they had Papaya Salad though! TIps: I love Mango Sticky Rice, but very few Thai restaurants seems to have it for dessert. If you call Lanna 24 hours before, they can make it for you!

Lanna Thai is my favorite thai food restaurant. The service is always so nice and so pleasant. They even bow gracefully, not on the floor or anything mind you, when accepting your payment. I love Massaman, but they also have my favorite Pad Thai with beef. Everything is hot and fresh. The tea is cold and refreshing. On top of all this, the portions are great! Try them out, they are kind of hidden by an auto parts store, but if you go looking for them you will not be disappointed.

Got a groupon so thought I would try it out and the food was amazing great portions and love the ginger rice soup also. They are very nice in there and it's great service! Defiantly my new favorite thai reseraunt!

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday and came back for more on Monday. The Massaman Curry with tofu is EXCELLENT. The owner makes the orders without fish sauce because my boyfriend and I are vegan. The owner is one of the few restaurant owners I've met who actually put forth an effort to be friendly, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome and special. I'm very happy to have finally found an amazing ( and inexpensive! ) Thai place on the east side of Michigan.

Food is awesome and the price is more than reasonable! Pad Thai portion was so big, looked like I hadn't even eaten any and I was stuffed. Also had the coconut milk soup, highly recommend. Plus the people are so so nice. If you like Thai food you will be happy you found this gem.

Going to have to go with 1 star being that I used to go here once a week and they have great food but where this 1 star comes from is that I used a groupon and everything was fine but three weeks later someone from my work gave me one since it "was" one of my favorite places, later to find out in an embarrassing way that a single person can only use 1 once a year??? Which is weird seeing it says that nowhere on the Groupon or the Web site that being said I will not be going back because of the way it was handled.

We drive 20 miles out of our way to eat here. It's that good! Heck, we even pass a 1/2 dozen other Thai restaurants on our way. Tucked away in a strip mall not facing the road, it's a little hard to spot. The interior is beautifully decorated in original Thai art. Service has always been kind, attentive and timely. I personally cannot get out of the fried rice category on the menu. They are all so damn good. The pineapple chucks, carrots shaped as flowers, fresh scallops, and level of spice make every meal here the best Thai that I have ever eaten. I cannot wait to return!

Recent stumbled on Lanna's and it was terrific. I had the Green Curry with Chicken. Very savory with just the right amount of spice. The spring rolls were excellent and uniquely presented. SS had the Pad Thai (of course) and it was also very good.

It's a cute little resturant. I've had the pad thai a couple times and it was okay but not the best I've had. The chicken was a bit dry. I was definitely expecting more after all the rave reviews i read of them. However, I have ONLY had the pad thai so it's entirely possible their other dishes are rad. I've always gotten carry out and the customer service has been very friendly!

The siracha noodles are crave worthy and the basil fried rice fragrant and tasty, but the service is comically laughably bad. Our food was delivered to another table, the waitress took it off the table removed the other diners chop sticks then tried to serve it to us. A different tables shrimp rolls were brought to us. When we asked for drink refills the waitress stuck her finger in our glass to pick it up. All of that said the food made it worth the trauma. We will definately order from here again, but as take out only. All of that

The owner greated us and was very sweet. It was the day after Christmas and the place was rather busy. I got the Pad see ew and really enjoyed that the chicken actually looked like chicken. However I wanted it to be a bit sweeter and though I asked for extra egg I didn't not receive it. However shot of going down to Ferndale our out to Auburn Hills this will be my local Thai spot. And they deliver within a 5 mile radius! Their chicken dumplings are a must have. They have about 5 tables so I give it a fat friendly seating award!

I very rarely remember to leave reviews, unless I absolutely love something! As I'm sitting here finishing my bangkok leftovers, I find myself not really eating it, more so eating the noodles and pulling it apart. One thing comes to mind: I've cheated on Lanna and karma is biting me. Really though, I went to lunch with my mil and she wanted to give it a try, but it is just not Lanna! Lanna is spectacular. I eat there 1-2 times a week. I always order a dinner so that I have leftovers. I mostly order takeout, but the 3 times I've dined in, the service was awesome. The good is always good and the portions are amazing. Such friendly owners, and they are so helpful keeping my youngest occupied while we eat by putting cartoons on, or bringing them a bowl of ice cream! I really love everything about this place, and I recommend it constantly!

Lanna Thai was a pleasant surprise! I went there for lunch with a friend of mine today, the waitress lady was super sweet and the food - OMG! A complete gem! We both had the tom yum soup with shrimp, perfectly flavored and balanced. I ordered the Panang shrimp curry, shrimp was cooked just right, it was fresh and had a delicious crunch to it. A friend ordered pad thai noodles and she seemed perfectly satisfied. The waitress brought us a little dessert in the end, fried bananas, which was unexpected and a great ending to a lovely lunch. The space is cute, but most importantly very clean! I just wish I lived closer... I would be a regular.

Great food and service from a gentleman who always delivered the food to us at no cost when my friends and I would hang out at local lounges. I always order the pad thai and the portions are very generous. You get what you pay for and at Lanna Thai you get your bang for your buck!

Very good food. I especially like this place because the owners are so personable and their portion sizes always make for good leftovers the next day. Been there 4 times in the last few months already and I'm not one to eat out much.

As usual, I wanted to love it. It was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I had the Lanna Noodles, Lanna Fried Rice, and the ginger chicken soup. The noodles were by far the best of the three dishes. Light, almost paper thin egg noodles with coconut milk, a smidge of Thai basil, chicken, bean sprouts and curry spices. The fried rice reminded me of the Cantonese fried rice we used to get in the 60's and 70's. Kind of greasy, bits of peas and carrots, some meat. The serving was huge, but it was overpriced at $10 - mostly rice. The soup was okay. I had a hard time tasting the ginger at first, but did eventually bite into a small chunk of it. I am still on the hunt for the holy grail - complex-flavored, light Thai.

I had a Groupon and decided to give Lanna Thai a try. I'm glad I did. We were greeted by one of the owners. She was extremely friendly and patient. We sat in a beautiful booth surrounded by bright and clean Thai decor that was very tasteful. I ordered a Thai iced tea and the Sriracha noodles. My hubby ordered a Thai iced coffee and Pad Se-ew. The owner brought out a delicious rice soup that was slightly spicy. Very good for the cold windy day that it was. Our entrees came out about 10 minutes later. The quality was very good: soft, chewy noodles, seared beef, and crisp veggies. My dish was quite a bit hotter than what I am used to for Medium spice. For dessert, we ordered the banana fritters which were nothing more than bananas wrapped in spring roll wrappers and fried and covered with chocolate and strawberry sauce. I have no complaints except that next time I'll mostly likely order Mild plus spice.

Excellent restaurant. We had Pad Thai, Pad Se Ew, Pad Krawpow, and Rice Soup. Everything was delicious. Service was good. I would have given them 5 stars if they had Fresh Rolls/Summer Rolls on the menu.

Went because of a Groupon, can't wait to go back! Had the Drunken Noodle and Pad Se-we, rice soup. Outstanding even though a tad spicier than usual so maybe order down a notch! Banana Fritters very nice light touch for dessert. Also had the Spring Rolls appetizer. Very nice presentation. Owners were very friendly and went out of their way to please. This place deserves to have folks lined up to serve! Do try!!!

1. A Thai restaurant open on Sundays! 2. Delivery up to 5 miles! Too bad I'm 6.33 miles away :( or I'd be on that. 3. Showed up at 8:40 on a Monday night, and they close at 9. I was willing to get carry out, but they insisted we sit. There was a couple who even came in 15 minutes after us. 4. Our food was prompt & delicious. I appreciate the quality of their noodles, you can tell they are not the quick soak ones. And before our main entrees came out, we were served soup, a very nice bonus. The server/owner (I think), explained the soup ingredients to us, and that it is a traditional Thai breakfast soup, so we've probably never seen it at any other Thai place. And after dinner, we were served a banana fritter (like a deep fried banana spring roll), with chocolate sauce. Mm mm! 5. The spice was just right, as well as my order of extra egg. It was big pieces of egg, not little bits like it was added as an afterthought. Again, duly noted and appreciated. 6. Lastly, we were given coupons with our bill to encourage a repeat visit, and there definitely will be. Great establishment, friendly, courteous, thoughtful staff, and delicious food. I have officially dumped my regular Thai place a mile from my house to make Lanna my new crave destination.

Had the pad Thai with chicken , mild.... And spring rolls. Fresh and very very good. Owner present and very nice, great service. Open environment, clean and friendly. Will be back next time I'm in town!

Good little Thai Restaurant. 3 stars for a limited item menu. Very good food, fresh vegetables. Would come back again if in the area.

(4)Carol C.
Do try!!!

Nice people, but BAD FOOD ! Stopped by for dinner while on business trip last Tues. Nov. 27 and the Tom Yum soup and Lanna Fried Rice gave me a BAD CASE of FOOD POISONING that night and through the next day. Will never go back here again.
